✷ 014: Ramen For Two.
TOO FAMOUS ! by KissLeclerc
February 9, 2024 # "Hey Lover!"
AFTER DISCUSSING their evening plans, Ollie suggested that they go to the university dining hall like Reneé and the others had recommended he'd do, but since the three were unavailable, painting away at some school organized event.
Devyn decided she was craving a home cooked meal that she didn't mind preparing in the student kitchens as Ollie soon agreed with the plans, also realizing he could be spotted and bombarded if people recognized him in the dining hall.
"You've never had ramen?" Devyn furrowed a brow in confusion. "How? Haven't you been to Japan?" She laughed as she gathered ingredients from a storage bin and the shared mini fridge Reneé had got for the room.
"I've only ever had sushi when I'm out there." Ollie shrugged with a smile as he held a reusable bag for her as she dumped ingredients and such into it.
"Well, I'm about to change your life." She smiled sweetly in front of him as she carefully placed a carton of eggs at the top of the tote. "Go for it, I'm open to anything you make me!" He replied.
Sliding on her Ugg's and throwing on a sweatshirt, Devyn grabbed her dorm keys before double checking everything, when she remembered she forgot the utensils.
"Oh, wait." She stopped in her tracks. "Hold." She held a finger before going up to the mini fridge, grabbing two bowls that sat on top before hesitantly grabbing two pairs of chopsticks.
"Do you want a fork instead?" She bit down a laugh as she turned to Ollie. "Yes, please." He said shyly as she smiled, happily trading out the chopsticks she grabbed for a singular fork.
Moving on, Ollie followed Devyn out of the dorm as he carefully shut the door behind him. She lead the way as she preferred to take the stairs to go all the way to the first floor where the communal student kitchens were.
"What's it like living in a dorm?" Ollie asked as he held her tote bag of food items on his shoulder. "It seems nice." He said, looking around the bottom floor curiously.
"Hmmm, it's not terrible but it's also not the best." Devyn shrugged as she opened the door to the massive communal kitchen where thankfully, only a few other residents were eating or cooking.
"The only thing I hate is the showers." She laughed. "Warm water never works." Continuing to gesture for him to hand over the bag as he gladly gave it to her before she set out everything.
"Do you need help with anything?" He asked, eager to assist. "Yes, actually." Devyn smiled after grabbing the communal pots and pans. "Wash these." She said softly as Ollie glimpsed at them.
"But they're already—"
"Just to be safe! I don't know what these weirdos are making in those..." Devyn laughed as she began to prepare the cooking process.
"It might not be too authentic, since all I'm working with is packaged ramen..." She mentioned. "But it'll be delicious, trust me." She continued to explain as Ollie washed dishes at the sink beside her.
"Even if it's terrible, I will lie." He laughed. "Just to make you feel good... but I bet it will be fantastic."
"How sweet..." Devyn rolled her eyes with a grin as Ollie handed her the newly rinsed pot and beginning to boil two eggs.
Going forward, Devyn took out her air pod case, handing one of the ear pieces to Ollie in order for them to listen to music together, without disturbing anyone else.
Throughout the rest of the evening, Devyn gladly taught Ollie how to prepare one of her favorite meals (on a college budget), laughing and goofing off as they bonded over cooking. As she cut and prepped the green onions, she demonstrated how to quickly chop it up with no problem, allowing him to have a go at it.
"You're doing it wrong." She held in a laugh as she tried to adjust his grip but in a swift movement, Ollie side bumped her away with a giggle following after. "No, I got it! I'm doing it!" He said with stubbornness making her scoff.
"See?" He finished, pointing at the large and poorly cut vegetables, making her facepalm. "You know what? You did good." She pat him on the back before pushing it aside.
The cooking continued and Devyn tended to the meat and broth while the eggs rested in a cup of cold water to cool down.
Finally approaching the noodle step, leaving them in a pot to boil, Ollie began to mindlessly dance to the song playing in his ear while she didn't even realize.
"What are you— Oh." She turned around to him happily dancing as she registered the song. "Stop... Please stop— Ollie." She closed her eyes in embarrassment, even though they were now the only residents in the kitchen.
"Oh, so you're a party pooper?" He raised a brow as he continued to dance in place to whatever song was playing in their ear. "I'm not really a dancer..."
"Neither am I." Ollie shrugged with an idea.
Quickly letting out a laugh, he greeted her with a bow, making her turn and look away as she laughed nervously. "Miss Devyn Suzuki, may I, Oliver Bearman, have this dance?" He said with a posh accent, a small giggle escaping her mouth.
"Hmm.." Devyn hesitated.
"PLEASASEEE!" He eagerly begged, a loud laugh escaping her lips. "You're ridiculous." She mumbled. "But? You may." She mimicked his accent, placing her hand in his as she curtsied.
Pulling her in through a spin, Ollie danced with Devyn in the kitchen, looking down at her happily as the tune of "Hey Lover!" played in their ears.
Laughing and smiling, he held onto her as he gladly guided her through an upbeat paced dance, which was still intimate in its own way. Regardless of how long he's known her, despite the circumstances of them meeting, Ollie was happy, and so was she.
"Oh I'll just sit in the middle of the road tonight." Reneé interrupted, clearing her throat as she startled Devyn, making her gasp.
"OH!" Ollie laughed as Devyn clung onto him in fear, "Oh, it's you." She let out a breath, realizing who it was.
"You guys are so cute!" Sasha and Mina said in unison as they were stood beside Reneé.
"Uh. So what's up?.." Devyn asked shyly, partially embarrassed as she looked over at Ollie. "No one answered the room when I knocked, and your location said you were still in the building, so I assumed you guys were in here." Reneé explained as Devyn took the noodles off the burner.
"Oh... did you need my keys?" She asked.
"Yes..." The blonde said guiltily. "I'm sorry for interrupting..." She awkwardly apologized as she took the keys from Devyn. "Enjoy yourselves, lovebirds!" She waved.
"Don't worry about it!" Devyn shrugged it off as she bid her friends a short goodbye, leaving her and Ollie quiet, a new song playing in the airpods.
"So.. hungry?" She was quick to break the silence.
"Very." Ollie said, patting himself on the stomach as Devyn quickly began to prepare two bowls.
Assembling the final touches, she placed everything she had to wash in the sink before cleaning her hands once more, delicately placing the freshly peeled, soft boiled eggs on top of everything, and pushing the beautiful bowl of noodles towards Ollie.
"This looks amazing." He admired the bowl as Devyn took no time to quickly scarf some noodles down with her chopsticks. "And it tastes amazing." She added after swallowing her food.
Leaning against the counter, Ollie took a big bite of her noodles and immediately melted at the taste, quickly swallowing after he chewed.
"Oh my god??" He was taken aback by the mix of flavors.
"Is it good?" She asked, as if his opinion meant the world to her.
"This is amazing—" He said with a laugh, making her feel releieved and glad she was able to enjoy her favorite meal with him.
As the evening went on, the two stood in the kitchen, opposite of each other as Devyn leaned against an island counter and he was against the stove top. They ate and talked, happily discussing their plans for the weekend, eagerly bouncing ideas and suggestions off of each other.
Devyn a couple months ago would've never thought this would be a real scenario she would ever be in.
Because what were her odds of scoring the attention of a rising sensation in the world of motorsports?
Deep down, she still had a gut feeling that everything was all too good to be true. Like Ollie Bearman?
He's Too Famous, she thought.
What's gonna happen in the long run? A question she'd constantly think about when she'd get a text from him in the morning, wondering if any of this would become something great.
Doubts would usually fill her mind.. like the idea of dating long distance, or being with someone with lots of fans.... which she already got a slim taste of what that was like.
But can she handle it on a daily basis?, is a question she'd constantly ask herself.
Would Ollie still like her in two months from now? Or would he have wasted her time? Or would he have realized he could go for anyone else and come to terms she isn't all that?
Yet, here he is standing in front of her. Flying all the way to where she lived, so he can surprise her. After sharing a sweet dance together, and now bonding over a delicious meal she prepared.
She realized, that maybe, this is something she should enjoy while it lasts.
And she hopes it'll last forever.
