Chapter 2~Gifted

[Y/n] hummed, sweetly, while getting Hinata and herself ready for school. "Which shirt do you want today, Hinata? Mr. Monkey or Mr. Dragon?" [Y/n] asked while her little brother sat on the bed, staring at the two shirts that she was holding.

"Dragon!" Hinata cheered, and [Y/n] giggled.

As [Y/n] dress her little brother in the yellow and orange t-shirt with a red fire-breathing dragon on it, she could hear her aunt yelling at Ryuuichi to get up and stop wasting time. [Y/n] giggled and thought how she would have reacted to her asking Hinata for his choice of wardrobe.

"Ready?" [Y/n] asked.

"Aye!" He cheered with his tiny fists in the air.

"Let's eat our breakfast, get our lunch and go!" [Y/n] cheered while picking up her little brother.

"Go!" Hinata cheered after her.

[Y/n] walked down the hall until "Who are you calling 'Shaggy'?! If you say that one more time, I'll give you the same hairstyle!" Aunt Youko was yelling at Kotaro. [Y/n] could imagine what Kotato looked like with her aunt's hairstyle.

'So cute!'  She thought and continued walking to the dining room.

[Y/n] placed Hinata in his high-chair. She saw Ryuuichi come into the dining room with Kotaro, and she smiled. Ryuuichi was dressed in his new school uniform. "Wow, Ryuu-chan! You look great!" [Y/n] said, cheerfully.

Ryuuichi blushed a bit. "Th-Thank you." He said, and Kotaro reached for [Y/n]. This took Ryuuichi and [Y/n] by surprise, but [Y/n] smiled, nonetheless. "Good morning to you too, Taro-chan." [Y/n] said and took Kotaro from Ryuuichi.

"He seems to have warmed up to you." Ryuuichi said, and [Y/n] smiled more, giving Kotaro a squeeze. She glanced at her little brother. He usually whines and yells when she's around other children, but he was quiet. Kotaro was his new friend after all, but that didn't stop Hinata from glaring.

"Down you go." [Y/n] said and set Kotaro in the highchair next to Hinata, so everyone could eat breakfast together.

[Y/n] and Ryuuichi dropped their siblings off at the daycare room. "Hey, that looks good on you, Ryu-chan." Usaida said while Kotaro and Hinata took off their shoes at the door.

[Y/n] smiled. "It really does look good." She added.

"Thank you." Ryuuichi said.

"But I'm surprised that the old cheapskate bought you a new uniform you'll only be wearing for a few months. Sorry, [Y/n]." Usaida said.

"It's fine. Aunt Youko was never as generous as Grandma when it came to money." [Y/n] explained with a weary smile.

"The chairwoman isn't a cheapskate at all." Ryuuichi said while Usiada yawned and walked away.

Ryuuichi looked at the time. "Oh, it's almost time. We'd better get going." He said, and [Y/n] nodded. "Take care." Usaida said while laying on the floor with Midori on his chest. "Bye, everyone. We'll see you at lunch, okay?" [Y/n] announced, and the children gathered around her feet. She hugged each one of them. Lastly, it was Kotaro's turn.

"Ryu-chan and I will be back. I promise." [Y/n] said, gently, and Kotaro nodded then hugged her. [Y/n] gave them one last wave goodbye then walked to class with Ryuuichi.

[Y/n] hummed, quietly as they walked. "[Y/n]-chan?" [Y/n] hummed and looked at Ryuuichi. "If you don't mind me asking...what happened to....your parents?" Ryuuichi asked. [Y/n] smile fell a bit, making Ryuuichi a bit flustered.

"S-Sorry. You don't have to answer. Sorry." Ryuuichi said, and [Y/n] shook her head.

"No, it's okay. You're probably confused about my outburst." [Y/n] said and took a deep breath, "In all honesty, I hardly remember what my parents look like. The first and last time I've seen them was a couple of years ago when Hinata was born. I've lived with my grandmother all my life, and when Hinata was born, they dumped him on my grandmother as well." [Y/n] explained, sadly, "A year and a half ago, my grandmother died. That's when me and Hinata started living with Aunt Youko, my grandmother's sister, because my parents...inheirted her money and left to country."

Ryuuichi looked down on the ground as they walked. [Y/n could sense his sadness. "Don't look like that." [Y/n] said and elbowed Ryuuichi, "I'm fine and happy with my life." [Y/n] said and gave a reassuring smile.

The two students made it into the school, and they noticed other students looking at them and laughing. "I wonder what they're laughing at." [Y/n] muttered.

"Yo, Kashima, [Y/n]."

[Y/n] smiled. "Good morning, Hayato-kun." She greeted.

"Hey, Kamitani...Is there something weird about me?" Ryuuichi whispered, "It's my first day in this uniform, so..." Hayato looked down, and [Y/n] followed his gazed to see the children had followed them outside the daycare room.

"What are you thinking, dragging the kids here with you?" Hayato said as [Y/n] crouched down. "What are you sneaky children doing here?" She questioned while sitting on her knees on the floor.

"Nee-tan!" Hinata cheered and hugged his sister.

"Kotaro wanted to follow Ryu, so we came with him." Taka said as Kotaro hugged Ryuuichi. [Y/n] sighed. 'I guess I wasn't enough to reassure him.' [Y/n] thought. "Nee-tan! Play wit us!" Hinata whined. "Play with us!" Taka joined in. [Y/n] pet Hinata's head to settle him down. "Guys, you're making a scene! Quiet down!" Ryuuichi ordered.

"Settle down, now." [Y/n] said in a gentle tone.

"Taka, shut your mouth right now." Hayato ordered while stepping forward.

"I wanna play with Ryu!" Taka yelled.

Hayato glared at him with his fist raised. "Shut it." He growled, scaring Taka and the other children. "Kamitani, please stop threatening small children!" Ryuuichi said while [Y/n] sighed.

"I...I..." Tears filled Taka's eyes. "Nii-chan, you poopiehead!" Taka yelled and ran away.

"T-Taka-chan, wait-" [Y/n] called, but he already ran into someone.

"Taka-kun!" Ryuuichi called and caught him. [Y/n] picked up Hinata and rushed over to make sure Taka was okay. She noticed who it was.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, Inomata-san." [Y/n] said and bowed.

The girl glared at her. "'Sorry' isn't going to cut it. What are children doing in our middle school again, Yamamoto? We can't turn our school into a playground to suit your own childish needs." Maria said and glared harder at [Y/n].

Hinata and the other children began to cry because of her scary attitude. [Y/n] continued to smile as held Hinata's head to her chest, and she bowed again. "We're sorry. We'll take them back right away." [Y/n] said and picked up Kirin.

"Now, now. Don't cry." [Y/n] said, gently.

"Could you both help me gather them and get them to the daycare?" [Y/n] asked the two boys, and they nodded. Hayato picked up Takuma and Kazuma while Ryuuichi picked up Taka and Kotaro. [Y/n] hummed a sweet tune to calm them down as they walked to the daycare room.

Once they were there, the three students placed the children down. "Guys, we're back in the daycare, so you can relax." Ryuuichi said, and they looked at a sleeping Usaida on the floor with a sleeping Midori. [Y/n] sighed while Hayato glared with his fist held up. Hayato punched Usaida in the head, waking him up.

"Hayato-kun!" [Y/n] scolded.

"How long are you gonna sleep?" Hayato questioned while Usaida groaned. Hinata balled his fists in [Y/n]'s uniform while staring at Kotaro. [Y/n] followed Hinata's gaze to Kotaro sitting in the corner. [Y/n]'s expression saddened, and she looked at Ryuuichi, who had the same expression.

Ryuuichi patted Kotaro's head. "Kotaro..." Ryuuichi said, and he and [Y/n] joined Kotaro on the floor, "She was only mad at me, not any of you. I didn't notice you all were there. It was my fault."

"It was my fault, too." Ryuuichi said.

"That's right." They heard, and the two students looked at the door.

"You have a new member of the babysitting club, huh?" Maria said while standing at the door.

[Y/n] stood up and smiled at her. "Oh, Inomata-san. Yes, this is Kashima Ryuuichi." [Y/n] said, and Inomata glared. "You need to be more aware of what's happening around you." Inomata said, rudely.

"I know, sorry." [Y/n] muttered like a child being scolded by their parent. Hinata stuck his tongue out at Inomata. "Anway, what are you doing here?" Ryuuichi asked.

"Kamitani-sensei's son forgot his lunch, so she asked me to bring it." Inomata said and handed Taka's lunch to [Y/n]. "I've done what she asked, so I'll be-"

"Ow, ow, ow...Suddenly, my stomach is killing me!" Usaida suddenly said.

"Are you alright, Usiada-san?" [Y/n] asked, worryingly while setting Hinata on the floor.

"I don't think I am! Hayato, take me to the nurse's office right now! Which means...[Y/n]-chan, Ryu-chan, and you there! Would you look after the children until I return?" Usaida asked.

"Wait..."

"Thanks a bunch." Usaida left with Hayato.

There was silence. [Y/n] giggled a little. "This could be fun." She said, cheerfully, and Inomata glared at her. [Y/n] sat next to Ryuuichi on the floor while he held Midori, and the other children hid behind them. "Um...We can handle things here, so you're free to go back to class, um..." Ryuuichi said.

"I'm Inomata of Class A. Since he asked for my help, it would be irresponsible of me to leave without permission." Inomata said. Inomata looked down at the floor then back at Midori then down at the floor. And, at the baby.

"Well...Would you like me to hold the baby for you?" Inomata asked, and [Y/n] grinned.

"I-It's not because I want to hold her!" Inomata yelled with a reddened face, "But now that I've accepted the task, I feel that I should help out!"

"Hush! Inomata-san, you're being too loud!" Ryuuichi hushed, and Midori began to cry. "It's okay, Midori! Don't be afraid!" Ryuuichi said.

"What's that supposed to mean?!" Inomata yelled, and [Y/n] giggled. Taka poked Inomata with his toy sword.

"Ow!"

"You villain!" Taka yelled.

"You'll pay this time!" Kirin announced.

"We're gonna beat you up!" Hinata yelled, and Inomata glared.

"Who are you called a villain?!" Inomata growled, and the children ran away. They hid behind a little table. Little tears were in Maria's eyes. [Y/n]'s eyes softened, and she looked at Ryuuichi.

"Everyone, come here." Ryuuichi said while signaling them over.

"Let's tell Inomata-san that we're sorry." [Y/n] said.

"We're the ones at fault here." Ryuuichi continued.

"I don't want them to apologize because they're forced to. But I suppose it's hard on the two of you, too." Inomata said, "Having to take care of disobedient children...You must not have any proper free time. It's truly pitiful."

[Y/n]'s eyes widened a bit. "It's not true!" She said, and the two other students looked at her, "I know that you don't like me, Inomata-san, but, please, don't pity us, and don't call these children disobedient. They are wonderful children, and I love each and every one of them." [Y/n] smiled. "Being at this daycare has given me the most wonderful experience in middle school, and I hope to continue it in high school." She continued.

"Yeah." Ryuuichi agreed, "Being with these kids has been a lot of fun for both my brother and me." He smiled.

That smile melted [Y/n]'s heart. Maria glared then blushed and threw a panda pillow at him. [Y/n] eyes widened. "Don't give me that triumphant smile! Yes, I know! You're not pitiful at all. Look at how much they like you!" Inomata yelled and continued to throw things.

[Y/n] shielded Kotaro while Ryuuichi shielded Midori. "And, of course, I'm the one that everybody hates! Studying is the only thing I'm good at! And you...and you..." Inomata sobbed, "You've beaten me in that, Yamamoto-san."

Inomata dropped the stuffed bunny. The children walked over to her with tears in their eyes. Kirin placed her small hands on Maria's knee. "Onee-chama, please don't cry." Kirin said.

"We're sorry..." Hinata muttered.

"Sorry."

"Sorry."

"Yeah." The other children apologized.

"What...Why are you crying, too?" Inomata questioned and hugged the children as they cried together. [Y/n] smiled, sadly, at the scene. "The warmer and more reassured you feel, the more tears start to flow..." Ryuuichi muttered, and [Y/n] nodded.

"Yep." She said. Soon, Maria and the children cried themselves to sleep. [Y/n] placed blankets on each of them.

"Are you alright, [Y/n]-chan?" Ryuuichi asked, noticing how quiet the girl became.

"I just didn't realize how much pain I was causing her. I've always wanted to be friends and be nice to everyone, but I never knew why Inomata-san didn't like me." [Y/n] said.

"Because you always stole her top spot." [Y/n] suddenly heard, and she covered her mouth to prevent a scream. She turned around to see Hayato was standing right behind her. "[Y/n] always got the top spot in our exam rankings even though she in Class C. [Y/n] refuses to leave our class to go to Class A." Hayato explained to Ryuuichi.

"Anyway, how's Usaida-san? Is he feeling any better?" [Y/n] asked.

"Don't worry. He was faking it." Hayato said and looked at Maria, "So, what do we do about her?" He asked.

"I feel like we should probably wake her up...But I'd also like to let her sleep." Ryuuichi said. "It looks like we have another child to look after." [Y/n] said with a smile.

~

Around lunchtime, the children were awakened by their growling bellies. [Y/n] set up the little table for them to eat on while Inomata slept. [Y/n] ate with Hinata until Maria suddenly woke up.

"Hey! What time is it?" Inomata asked.

"Lunchtime." Hayato answered.

"We tried to wake you, but you just kept sleeping..." Ryuuichi said. "You looked so peaceful." [Y/n] added while Inomata blushed and shook her head.

"I would never miss class without a good reason!" Inomata whined.

Suddenly, the door to the daycare slid open. "Um...Yamamoto [Y/n]-san?" A teacher said, and [Y/n] stood up. "I'll be right back." [Y/n] said and stepped out. Hinata stopped eating and stared at the door.

As soon as [Y/n]'s head was out of sight,  Hinata began to tear up, and he started to cry. "Hinata-kun?" Ryuuichi called as Hinata ran to the door. "Nee-tan! Nee-tan!" [Y/n] waved the teacher off as he walked down the hall and opened the door to see Hinata sobbing. [Y/n] smiled at him then pulled him into the hug. She ran her fingers through his blonde hair then patted his hand to calm him down.

"Hi-na-ta, Hi-na-ta, what does your name mean to me? My Hi-na-ta." [Y/n] sung, sweetly into his ear.

"I..I..." Hinata hiccuped. "I'm da sun on your dark days." He muttered, and [Y/n] kissed his forehead. "And, I'm never going away." [Y/n] added and setting him on the ground. "Now...let's finish eating! Saikawa-san and I make it with love!" [Y/n] announced while holding her fist up. The sleeve of her uniform slowly came down, revealing the bandages she had around her fingers.

"And, if we have time, we can play some before I have to leave, okay?" [Y/n] said, and the children's eyes sparkled. [Y/n] sat back down at her place next to Ryuuichi.

"Who was that?" Hayato asked.

"It was the high school A-Class' homeroom teacher. He offered me a spot in his class, but I turned him down." [Y/n] said.

"What...Why?" Maria asked, and [Y/n] smiled at her.

"It would take up too much time away from my brother and the children of the daycare. These children are my priority. I think someone more deserving than me should have that spot." [Y/n] said, "Besides, the only gift I have is with children." She patted her little brother's head.
