Chapter 6: You'd Like That

"Mom," I groan. "When can we meet him?"

My mom stands in the bathroom, curling her hair for her date with the mystery guy. . Again.

"Soon," She answers simply.

Austin comes through, ear buds in his head. "Time stood still, the way it did before. It's like I'm sleepwalking." My brother sings lowly as he passes the bathroom. I grab his swinging arm, stopping him.

He pulls an ear bud out. "Wha-"

"Mom is going on another date with mystery guy." I explain. "And we still haven't met him."

"So?" My brother asks.

"So, we need to meet the guy." I tell him.

Austin looks at my mom who is putting lip gloss on. "When will we even meet him?" He asks her.

"Like I told your stubborn sister, soon." She sprays perfume on herself.

"Soon as in soon soon or soon as in soon?" Austin dumbly asks.

I blink at him and so does my mom. "Well," she answers, blinking again. "Soon."

I roll my eyes, groaning. "Fine." I say. "Where are you guys going this time?"

My mom doesn't notice that my voice has an edge to it. "Oh! We are going to a fancy restaurant out of town."

"Sounds like it'll be nice." I answer as my brother walks away, putting his ear buds back in.

"Yeah I do too." She smiles at me, walking out of the bathroom.

I follow her. "Will you at least tell me the guys name?"

My mom grabs her purse, looking at her phone. "He's here to pick me up."

I smile. "I can go outside and see him. What's his name?"

"No don't go out there, we have to be at the restaurant at a certain time. We have a reservation, his name is Ryan."

She kisses my cheek and walks out the door.

Well looks like it's just you and me, Netflix. I think with a small smirk and sit on the couch.

"Okay, I am so bored." I say the next day at school.

Butt hurt jerk and I were sitting at the library, daydreaming.

"Well go read or something." He suggests in a rather rudely tone.

I raise one eyebrow. "What crawled up your butt this morning?"

He glares at the ground, not looking at me. "Nothing, what crawled up yours?"

"Nothing did mine. But something obviously crawled up yours, because it isn't nothing." I retort.

He rolls his eyes. "I'm just not in the mood today."

I scoff. "Apparently."

He grits his teeth, but keeps looking at the ground.

"Today is Friday and it's the day is half way over, it'll be over soon."

I look at my water on the table. "I hope."

"It will be," he assures. "Look sorry about being kind of snappy at you."

"Kinda?" I joke. "It's okay. I wasn't that upset about it anyway."

He smiles, lightly. "Okay good." He said. "Now leave me alone." He is joking, wanting to bicker.

I scoff. "You sat here second, not first."

"I'm too comfy to move, why don't you?" He threw back.

"You're right I should move. I don't wanna be seen with that," I wave towards him. "Especially that face." I shudder.

"Puh-lease, people would be ecstatic with this," He smirks, indicating his body and face.

"I think your stupidity got in your way- which is always in your way, may I add- by saying 'ecstatic' you meant disgusted." I say, smirking right back.

He rolls his eyes. "That's where your wrong, cupcake."

"Am not!" I say, putting a pouty frown on my face. "And stop calling me that."

"As soon as you stop calling me butt hurt jerk then I'll stop." He throws at me.

I wrinkle my nose. "So what, you want me to call you Collins? And you call me Ivory?"

He does the same thing with his nose, wrinkling it right back. I almost laugh at how childish he looks. However, I'm doing the same. I unwrinkle my nose, waiting for him to answer.

"I don't know, I like calling you cupcake, cupcake." He says, winking playfully.

"Well I like calling you butt hurt jerk." I mirror his actions, winking at him playfully.

"It seems too long though." He groans.

"Well cupcake seems to short." I groan back.

"Hmm. . .I may just call you perverted cupcake." He suggests, smiling.

"No." I almost yell. "Just call me. . cupcake." I whisper the last part.

"I'm sorry, what was that?" He asks me.

I look away, grumbling. "Cupcake."

"I'm sorry-"

"You heard me." I snap at him.

He laughs, throwing his head back. "Alright." He said, his laughter fading away. "You can call me butt hurt jerk." He murmurs.

"What?" I ask him.

"You heard me." He whines.

I give him an innocent look. "I didn't, what did you say?"

He presses his lips in a hard line. "I said you can call me. . . butt hurt jerk."

"I'm sorry I didn't hear you. " I tease.

"You're pushing it, cupcake." He almost growls. I giggle.

"What's so funny?" He asks.

I giggle again. "You sounded like some kind of animal when you were growling."

He smirks. "Did ya like it?"

I make a nasty gagging sound. "I hated it!"

A short girl walks on the row of books that's closest to us, searching for a book.

"Oh, baby, you did." He winks, talking loudly to the girl to hear.

"Shh." I whisper at him.

He leans towards me. "Play along, cupcake."

What the heck.

Wait.

He is trying to entertain me because I am completely bored sitting here. Should I? Ahh, what the heck.

"Sweetie, you know I love it when you do. . .that." I reply, loudly.

He smiles. "I know you do."

"Now, now. We are in a school library and you don't want anyone catching us." I say, voice high pitched. The girl has looked at us, weird expression on her face

He almost bursts into laughter. "Maybe you'd like that."

Goodness gracious.

"I probably would." I loudly fake cooed. The girl's eyes almost popped out of her head, gaping at us.

"Mmm." He cooed back, just as fake. "Wanna go in a closet and finish this?"

The girl let's out a tiny squeak, but I don't look at her.

"Please." I fake moan, voice squeaky. I turn serious. "Make sure it's in private so some prying people won't be listening to us." I snap my gaze towards her- who is looking at me with wide eyes.

Her face turns a bright shade of red, scurrying away.

Butt hurt jerk follows me out of the library, as soon as we are in the hall our laughter fills the air.

"D-d-did you s-see her fa-face?!?" He laughs, holding himself against the wall.

"I kno-know! P-priceless!!!" I laugh out.

"Man. . H-her face- never se-seen someones face get s-so red!" He bursts into laughter again.

When our laughter dies into little fits of giggles and sighs, I look through the window on the door and see the girl, face pink, walking towards the door with a book in her hands.

"She's coming." I yell-whisper.

His eyes widen. "We gotta do something again! Hurry, come here!"

I go towards him and he leans in close. Too close.

"Collins-?" I fake giggle. "Let's go to the closet now!!" I say when she comes out.

She stops, shaking her head, then walking away quickly. Okay, she may have ran.

I push him away from me, and we both look at each other. Just one look and he's leaning against the wall and I'm clenching my stomach, in laughter.
