Chapter 22: Rule Book
One thing about having no friends except the person you are going on a date with which is a boy is hard to do since that you have no one else to give you advice. Advice as in what to wear on a date.
I have my mom here which she hasn't even met him nor do I wish to have her help me with clothes.
My brother? Not even an option to be honest.
Are we going somewhere fancy? Should I wear a dress?
Haha!! You are hilarious!! My subconscious laughs.
I can just wear a skirt- no way! Maybe just some jeans and a nice shirt.
Almost like everyday? My subconscious asks.
I groan, changing my shirt.
Again.
I put on skinny jeans and a red tank top with a brown cardigan with brown boots.
This looks good enough. It's starting to get colder nowadays.
"Where you going?" My brother asks.
"To hang out with Collins." I say, attempting to put make up on.
"You're putting make up on!" He notices. "You never put that stuff on! I didn't even know you had any, are you two going on a date?"
I widen my eyes. "W-What? Ew, gross nooooo way!"
Austin rolls his eyes. "Okay, whatever."
Well I'm sure he knows now.
But my mom doesn't and won't at the time.
I walk down the stairs, nerves jumping like kernels in a microwave, making popcorn. But, of course, I'm not popcorn and I will not pop into a buttery treat one eats at movies.
I sit down and wait for him to come pick me up.
***
"Hey," he says after he knocks the door with me quickly answering.
"Hi," I smile towards him.
"Ready to go?" He asks.
"Yes," I push him back so I can walk past him blocking me out.
He grins as we get in his car with him opening the door for me. "I see that you aren't going to be nice?"
I look over at him. "Do you not want me to be myself?"
He ponders over my reply. "True." He says. "Okay be yourself."
I smile. "Did you just say I can be mean to you?"
He rolls his eyes. "No, cupcake, I said that you can be yourself."
"Which is me usually being mean to you or at least teasing." I say. "I thought we went over this, but your stupidity has yet proven it's extinction. But it still lives."
He laughs, the sound filling the car which brings a smile to my lips. "You sure are something."
"I shall take that as a compliment."
He looks over at me. "I meant it as one, cupcake."
***
"I've missed this place." I say as we enter Get Away Delights.
"Yeah, but we're getting it to go." He says, grabbing my hand to pull me away from the tables.
But he doesn't let go as we see Mandy at the counter. She notices the gesture and smiles sweetly.
"Usual?" She asks.
He nods. "Usual."
"Where are we going?" I ask.
He lightly swings our intertwined hands. "On a date of course, cupcake."
I smile. "I know that, butt hurt jerk, but where will we be going on this date?"
Mandy hands us our hot chocolates and he pays before I can interject. "Take care and have fun!" Mandy says. Collins and I smile in response.
"Where are we going?" I ask him as we drive away from Get Away Delights. "Do not say on a date, trust me I know we are on one."
He smiles. "You'll see."
We park at a supermarket, he turns to me when he turns off the car.
"Um, yes?" I ask.
"I have drove here to this supermarket to buy toilet paper." He declares.
"For?"
He gets out of the car, quickly opening my door before I can say anything. "Cupcake, we're rolling yards."
Before I can say anymore, he grabs my hand again making me feel tingly again.
He gets a buggy, piling two rolls of toilet paper in it. "How much do we need?" I ask him.
"The more the better." He says walking towards the cashier.
The woman eyes us suspiciously. I mean, two teenagers buying toilet papers would make you suspicious.
"This is too embarrassing." I speak up, just so the cashier will hear me.
"What do you mean?" Collins asks, unaware of my 'acting' so I give him a look.
"Well I mean, we have to get out of the house just so we can buy two stupid rolls of toilet paper because you can't keep the pipes from breaking."
He huffs out a breath. "Did you have to mention that to a cashier? You know I'm the only one in the house who can attempt to fix the pipes."
"Yeah key word attempt." I grumble.
She rings up the toilet paper, giving us sympathetic look.
We walk away, laughing. "That was good." He says as we drive away from the supermarket.
"I know," I laugh. "So who are we rolling?"
"I have no idea." He says. "Let's go for the unpredictable and choose a random house."
"So we're just going to choose?" I ask him.
He nods his head, turning down a neighborhood. "Why are we just going to randomly choose?"
"Because of the unknown." He says. "Instead of knowing whose house we're rolling, we'll be picking one at random, the fear of the unknown."
I smile. "Okay. Let's choose one."
***
"Get the toilet paper from the backseat, cupcake." Butt hurt jerk tells me.
"Yes sir." I say, putting a fake stern tone to my voice.
He laughs. "Shh, be quiet."
"We are barely even wearing black." I whisper to him.
"And?"
"Are you supposed to wear black when you go rolling yards?" I ask him as he tears open the toilet paper.
"There's a rule book?" He asks.
I roll my eyes. "I guess we don't." I then ask. "Don't people usually roll yards when itse Halloween?"
He smiles. "Once again, is there a rule book?"
We silently walk into the yard and throw the toilet paper on the strangers trees. We picked a house with the most trees, which was this house.
I grabbed a roll of toilet paper and started ripping them into little pieces so it would take the people forever to clean the mess up.
We throw toilet paper everywhere on the trees, on the ground, around the mailbox, on their porch, and on their cars.
A light flickers on outside, it's their porch light. Some lights come on in the house. Collins grabs my hand, running towards the car.
"Hurry, cupcake." He says as I sling myself in the car. He starts the car and zooms away.
I laugh. "That was awesome!"
He joins in with me. "It was," he looks in the backseat quickly.
"What is it?" I ask when he looks back at the road with a small smile.
He looks over at me. "We still got another roll of toilet paper."
I drink the remainder of my hot chocolate. "Let's go find another house."
***
If we thought the other house was bad from almost getting caught, we were wrong.
Very wrong.
"Let's put some more in the trees, cupcake." Collins says, putting a hand on my back to guide me.
I throw more toilet paper towards the trees with him. I laugh when both our toilet collides together.
"You are trespassing my property! I'm calling the cops!" A voice yells, the porch light coming on.
Collins curses, grabbing my hand. We run the opposite way of his car.
"Collins the car-"
"We're going to run around the block, then we'll go to the car." He says, our hands still joined.
The sound of our feet hitting the road and our breathing are the only thing we hear, of course the crickets and the occasional sounds of cars on a road.
"Do you think they really called the police?" I ask in between breaths.
"I don't know-" the sounds of sirens fill the air.
We whip our heads around to see the police car turning down the road we are running.
"Collins!" I say.
He yanks me across the road, bring us into a yard as we run towards the backyard. We run through the next house's backyard.
"It's just a little detour, cupcake." He says, sitting down.
"What if they find us?" I ask, sitting down beside him.
"I doubt they will." He says.
"And your car?"
He puts a hand around my waist, scooting me closer to him. "My car isn't that close to that house, they'll just bypass it."
"I hope so." I tell him.
