sunrise
"Kataraaaaaa,"
"Zukooooo,"
"Kataraaaaaaaaa,"
Katara woke up blinded by the sun and blinked annoying with a small cuss escaping her lips seeing her brother sitting on the ground in front of her. He looked innocent poking her shoulder with her own ruler.
"What the fuck do you want?" Katara asked annoyed and saw that it was noon.
"I want to go to the fair," Sokka said smiling like a child.
"Then go to the fair," Katara rolled over where Zuko was sleeping as he was on his back with his arms above his head and head tilted to the side as he slept. She scooted closer to throw one of her legs over his and laid her head on his chest to use him as her personal heater.
"Suki is working," Sokka sat on the bed making Kataras eyes snap open now very awake.
"Call Aang or Toph then," she snapped back sitting up finally.
"Do you want to come with too?" He asked and poked at sleeping zukos leg.
"Dont wake him up," Katara slapped her brothers hand.
"I want to ask Zuko too," he insisted.
"Get out of my room sokka," Katara tried pushing him away annoyed.
"It's noon, you never sleep past ten, you're being lazy," Sokka whined.
"You're being annoying, get out," Kataras voice got higher as she was tired of him being in her room.
"Wait do you guys want lunch then? I'm hungry," Sokka got up with his hands up in defense.
"Sure I don't care do what you want," Katara laid back down and pulled the blanket higher up.
"Cool cool.. Katara I can't cook, can you make me my favorite sandwich?" Sokka rocked on his ankles with his hands behind his back.
"Sokka, you have five dollars in your bank account and a car, go to McDonald's," Zuko said flatly with his eyes closed making the siblings jump in surprise he was awake.
"We went to bed when the sun started to come up, if you don't get out and close the door behind you-" Zuko rolled over to lay on his stomach and hide his face in the pillow.
"I'm going to drop you off on the side of the freeway," he threatened as Katara looked at Sokka unamused.
"Why were you guys up to late?" Sokka asked confused.
"Stuff, go away," he groaned. Katara threw her pillow at her brother as he squeaked running out of the room and closed the door behind him.
Katara inhaled deeply more frustrated knowing she wasn't going to be able to go back to sleep, she felt a tug on her hoodie and felt zukos hand on her thigh to get her attention.
"Come back love," he mumbled with an open arm. She smiled softly and laid back on the bed as Zuko pulled her to his chest as he was on top more, his arm and shoulder on her as Katara was buried under her boyfriend.
She gripped his shirt a little as she closed her eyes. His arm held her tightly as he moved to have his other hand hold the back of her head and stroked her hair gently, Katara barely felt his lips press against her forehead before going back to sleep.
"We're almost there it's not that far," Zuko ran up a hill as Katara was wheezing five feet behind him.
The city was quiet behind them, frogs and crickets echoing as the stars lit the sky above them, the moon was bright enough for them to see without a flashlight, Katara wore a hoodie and jeans with zukos black jean jacket that was loose on her, the grass was wet from the morning dew that was forming.
Zuko jogged back to her with a small smile, he crouched down in front of her and Katara giggled getting on his back to be carried the rest of the way up the hill.
"You have lungs that are shit and I have never seen you work out, how are you not dying?" Katara whined wrapping her arms around him as they reached the top.
"Good genes," Zuko teased as he set her down.
They looked around as Katara checked the time, 4:59 a.m.
"Care to watch a sunrise with me?" Zuko asked running his hands through his hair with a small sigh looking at the city and the woods on each side of them.
They sat in the grass together not caring that they would get damp from the grass and laid side by side to look at the stars, it was so quiet, it felt refreshing to be awake when they shouldn't.
"I did love it here, I use to go exploring in the woods, I loved that those woods were empty enough I could see animals but have a city to go mess around in too, I loved it here when I was a kid," Zuko said calmly as he could small puffs of his breath come up from the cold hair.
"I saw a fox once," he turned his head looking at her.
God she looked beautiful... zukos breath was stolen from him when he looked at her. The cool light against her warm skin, her eyes looked like they were actually glowing, she looked beautiful in the night.
"Tried making a bouquet once too with the flowers in the forest," he smiled gently watching her, he knew she was listening, she just wanted to listen.
"Also found out what poison ivy looks like too," Zuko chuckled and Katara smiled at the sky.
"I've never actually seen a sunrise like this, only time I have was from driving to the airport at 5 in the morning," Katara sighed softly as her fingers brushed against his.
"I always liked rising with the sun, it looks amazing," he looked back at the stars as his hair was falling with gravity, his forehead exposed, his scar fully exposed and no longer hiding behind his hair.
"Do you think I'm attractive with out my scar?" Zuko closed his eyes a little and listened to the quiet.
"What? That doesn't make sense," Katara knitted her eye brows together thinking it was a joke.
"I... nevermind," he sighed opening his eyes again to see the moon lowering in the distance.
"No, what are you saying?" Katara rolled over on her stomach and kicked her feet up.
"..just Olivia... and I don't know if you would think I'm attractive without my scar?" He gulped pursing his lips embarrassed.
"I think your attractive with your scar, sorry if I sound insensitive but I don't know what you look like without it, I don't think much about your scar, it's just normal to me so I don't really question much, but it definitely and will never bother me, so fuck what Olivia said," Katara brushed his hair back with her fingers tracing his scar.
"But you are super hot, hella cute, and that scar makes you very sexy," she kissed his cheek gently and he smiled leaning into her touch.
"I love you," he held her hand against his face.
"I love you too," she giggled rubbing her thumb against his cheek.
They chatted and Zuko showed Katara how to find more constellations until the sun was coming up behind them, they flipped over to lay on their stomachs and watch the sunrise.
Katara inhaled deeply to try not yawning loudly as she heard a soft humming above. Her heart fluttered hearing his raspy deep voice sing a little, she wondered why or if it had more to it like lyrics.
She didn't mind though, it was calming, his smell, his touch, his weight pressed on her wasnt crushing or uncomfortable. Like two puzzle pieces almost, if it wasn't to cheesy. She loved how his arms wrapped around her and that he rested his chin on top over while leaning against her usually, that he's open to touch around her knowing he wasn't always. She loved...
she loved everything about him...
