Title's POV

"I would love to hear it," I said to Kaownah after he excitedly informed me that he had good news for me.

"Listen, the manager of the rehab company I work for has agreed to let me continue to give you therapy exercises while waiting for authorization to extend your session," he informed me.

"That's great!" I didn't mean to make my voice so loud. It made my mom come out from the kitchen to peek at me from the doorway to the living room.

"Just a little snag, though," I heard Kaownah saying. "While waiting for the authorization you will have to pay out of pocket but when we receive the authorization we will give you a refund of your money."

"That sounds good to me," I said. I didn't care either way. If I had to pay out of pocket I was more than willing to do so.

"Great," Kaownah said. "Are you okay with day after tomorrow?"

"Why not tomorrow?" I asked. Oops I didn't mean to sound greedy but I wanted to see him again, right away, to feel his hands and arms when he is assisting me out of my wheelchair and placing me gently on to the floor mat ......

"Title?" Ohmygahd Kaownah had said something which I didn't catch entirely because I had been so lost in my reverie.

"I'm ... I'm sorry, can you say that again?" I felt so embarrassed that I could actually feel my cheeks growing pink.

"I said, I won't be available because I got classes and exams tomorrow," I heard him say.

"Oh okay," I tried not to make my disappointment be noticeable in my voice. "What time will I see you day after tomorrow then?"

"Is ten in the morning alright with you?" he asked.

"Ten is perfect," I said. Better later than never.

"Fantastic, see you soon!" I heard him say.

"Looking forward ... " he didn't hear me. He had cut the call right after he said 'fantastic, see you soon.'

"The cookies are ready!" my mom announced from the kitchen.

I quickly wheeled myself to the kitchen, forgetting quickly my disappointment over not seeing Kaownah until day after tomorrow.

"Who were you talking to earlier?" my mom asked as soon as she saw me.

"Kaownah, my physical therapist," I said. "He informed me that his rehab company has filed an authorization of extension on my PT sessions to the insurance company. In the meantime we will have to pay out of pocket because it takes time for the approval to be processed and completed but the company will refund our money as soon as they receive the authorization."

"Fine with me," my mom said. "Here taste this."

I accepted the cookie that she handed me and bit into it.

"Yummy!" I said and popped the rest of it into my mouth.

"Don't eat too many," my mom advised me. "You don't want to lose your appetite before lunch."

"I won't, I promise," I said, already grabbing another cookie from the tray.

"Will you be alright having lunch by yourself?" my mom asked.

"Why, where are you going?" I countered.

"Cooheart's mom asked me if I wanted to come with her to visit our close friend Nina in the hospital," my mom replied. "You remember Nina, don't you?"

"Of course, I do," I replied. "She's the one with the young kid who used to bother me and Cooheart while we were playing in the backyard."

"Yes, that Nina," my mom confirmed.

"What happened to her? Why is she in the hospital?" I got curious.

"She had to have an emergency appendectomy done on her," my mom informed me.

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that," I said between bites of the oh so delicious soft and chewy chocolate chip cookie.

She was starting to walk out of the kitchen but turned around when she saw me grabbing the fifth cookie.

"I'm warning you, you won't have an appetite for lunch if you keep eating those cookies," she said before disappearing from the kitchen.

I ignored the urge to get one more cookie from the tray and started to wheel myself from the kitchen just as Becky, our housekeeper, walked in, carrying the clean folded clothes from the laundry room.

"You wanna have some chocolate chip cookies?" I asked.

"Sure, thanks!" she said with a happy smile.

"Please finish them all," I said. "I'm trying to avoid eating too much of them before lunch. Besides I don't want to gain weight."

"That's a good idea," she said. "You don't want to give that handsome therapist a hard time lifting you from your wheelchair."

She had the audacity to wink at me.

"Becky!!!" I felt my cheeks growing warm again.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she said, quickly walking away with the folded clothes.

I couldn't tell whether she really wanted me not to gain weight or she really just wanted to eat all of the remaining chocolate chip cookies.

Wait, was she actually teasing me about Kaownah? Had she noticed my crush on Kaownah?

I had to remember that Becky was a very perceptive housekeeper. She didn't miss much of whatever was happening in our household.
