I
Chapter 1: New Life
Alexander
My back popped as I slowly stood up from my seat on the plane. It has been a very long 6 hour flight with no sleep, and I longed for a nice comfortable bed to sleep in.
I grabbed my backpack from the overhead compartment. All it had was some clothes and a small picture of my mother in a golden frame.
I looked around the airport at the many people going to and from planes. I finally saw a man with a sign that said, "ALEXANDER HAMILTON"
I walked over to him. "Are you Aaron Bur, sir?"
"Yes," he said and shook my hand. "You must be Hamilton."
"That's me!" I responded proudly.
He nodded. "Alright. Let's get you through security with your bag and we can leave."
I nodded and followed him. Wow, he walks really fast. I practically have to jog to keep up with him.
We made it through the airport security and Burr led me to his car; a black Cadillac.
After about 15 minutes we made it to the dorm houses of Kings College.
I grabbed my backpack and followed Burr inside. As he talked to the person behind the counter about my room and who I would dorm with, I looked around at the lobby. I was huge! There were like four or five couches, love seats, and armchairs. Some people who I could only assume were students sat around a coffee table and read magazines.
"Hamilton," Burr called me, snapping me from my trance.
I walked over to him and he dropped my dorm key into my hand.
"You've got number 757. Your roomie should be here sometime today or tomorrow."
"Thanks," I said as walked away from him and to the elevator. 757. Seventh floor, fifty-seventh room.
When I arrived at the door I slid my key into the lock and turned it with a satisfying click.
The living room looked incredible. A white sofa, flatscreen T.V., cotton candy blue walls. There was a medium sized kitchen, and two bedroom with a bathroom each.
Both of the bedrooms were the same. I chose the one farthest from the front door. The window in the bedroom had an amazing view of New York City.
I put what little clothes I had into the dresser and the picture of Mother on the nightstand.
I flopped down on the bed, living the softness of the memory foam on my back.
Right about when I got settled and comfortable, I heard the door slam. Guess my roommate was here. I stepped out of my bedroom and saw the cutest boy I have ever seen in my life. His poofy brown hair was pulled back into a ponytail and his face was covered with freckles. After he set his box down on the sofa, he noticed me and walked over to me.
"Hi! I'm John Laurens! You're my roommate, right?"
He held out his hand and I shook it. "Yep. Alexander Hamilton," I said, feeling my face heat a little bit.
He smiled. "Great!"
He skipped over to the other bedroom and closed the door.
My face was really hot. He's so cute! His hair is so floofy, it looks like sheeps wool! And his eyes! Oh God, I just met this kid and I'm already helpless.
A couple minutes later he came back out of the bedroom.
"My friends are having a little thing tomorrow night at their house. You should come. I-I mean if you want to..." he stuttered as he got a glass of water.
"Yeah. Sure I'll go."
"Lit. I'll text Eliza and tell her that you're going to be there."
I nodded and took out my phone. Today was Thursday. Orientation was tomorrow at 10:00 and classes actually started Monday at 8:30. After putting these things in my reminders, I started scrolling through Instagram.
I follow a bunch of fan accounts for the Broadway musical Miranda and its actors.
"Aww," I smiled as I saw one of the most adorable pictures ever.
John looked confused. I noticed this. "Lin Manuel Miranda's new baby is so cute," I said as I showed him the picture.
"I know right! But Phillipa Soo and her husband are so adorable together."
We talked like this for a few more minutes until two people busted through our door.
"Herc! Laf!" John smiled and walked over to them.
I was slightly confused as to why two random people had just walked the fuck right into my dorm. Like, how did they get our dorm number?????
Whatever, it doesn't matter. They're apparently Johns friends so it's all good.
I hung back in the kitchen on my phone while they talked.
"You going to the thing at the Schuyler's house tomorrow night?" The one I guess was named Herc asked.
John scoffed. "Duh. Oh! Guys, this is Alexander. He my roommate and I invited him to the party."
I looked up at the mention of my name and walked the couple of steps over to them.
"Hi," I said kinda shyly. I've been shy and never good at meeting new people.
John introduced them as Hercules Mulligan and Marquis de Lafayette.
I looked down at my phone at the time. Damn it was already 10:00. Time flies.
"I'm going to sleep. Night guys."
"Night Alex," John said.
I threw myself onto my bed after changing into my pajamas. I couldn't stop thinking about how terrible my life had been back in Nevis. Maybe in New York I can be a new man.
I looked at the picture of my mom on the nightstand. "Good night mom."
