For those who might not know him, his name is JJ Chayakorn Jutamat. He plays the role of Waan in the series My Gear and Your Gown.
JJ's POV
My first reaction when the blood spurted from the IV catheter and onto my gloved hand was to wince but I willed myself to focus on my task of starting an IV line on my patient. I cursed myself for forgetting to put pressure on the vein to keep the blood from flowing through the canula before I could attach the end of the tubing. I quickly placed pressure on the vein with one finger while using my other hand to attach the tubing to the end of the canula by using my thumb and forefinger to twist and tighten it. I quickly finished the rest of the procedure, making sure to observe the sterile technique.
I could tell by the way that the physician I was training under had pursed his lips that I would get a scolding the moment we left the patient's room.
Sure enough as soon as I had finished hanging the IV bag and setting the desired flow rate of the solution and after saying a polite good bye to the patient, Dr. Sivakorn turned to me.
"Intern Jutamat, you know what mistake you made earlier when you started the IV procedure, right?" he asked, while busily writing notes on a pocket notepad.
"Yes, Dr. Sivakorn," I said, hoping that my voice sounded contrite enough for him to not deduct any points from my grade. No such luck.
"And you realize that it has lessened your overall score by ten points, right?"
"Shit."
"What did you say?"
"I said I'm sorry, Dr. Sivakorn."
I could not wait to get out of his clutches fast enough. My cell phone was vibrating every few seconds in my pocket.
Without having to fish it out of my pocket, I knew for sure that it was Un calling me.
I had promised to treat him to dinner this evening at the newly opened Peruvian restaurant on the third floor of the shopping mall not far from the hospital were I was an intern. I had promised to treat him to dinner in exchange for introducing me to his older sister Puimek. I had only seen her from afar when she had come to pick up Un from my house but I found her really pretty and judging from her smiling face, a kind and gentle person.
As soon as Dr. Sivakorn dismissed me, I rushed to the hospital basement parking lot and before pressing my car key, I took out my phone from my pocket.
Sure enough I had eighteen missed calls from Un and before I could return his call, he had started calling me again.
I swiped my screen and before I could even say hello, he said breathlessly, "I'm here at the entrance of the mall. How much longer before you get here."
"I just got out of my shift, Un. I'll be there in ten minutes."
"Okay, see you, JJ."
I couldn't totally blame him for being always anxious and overexcited about almost all stuff. He was only seventeen years old. But time flies fast. Soon he will mature enough to be like me.
Sure I'm only two years older than him and the reason I finished med school this early was because I was accelerated throughout my school days and college days.
I glanced at the time on my phone screen. It was half past seven in the evening. I could have finished my shift earlier if not for being assigned to start that IV drip on the newly admitted patient.
I sighed in resignation as I started the engine and drove my car out of the basement parking lot. I was annoyed that in spite of it being half past seven and therefore way past the five o'clock rush hour, traffic was still heavy. I could barely squeeze my car out of the parking lot exit and into the main street.
It was close to eight by the time I met up with Un who was waiting anxiously for me at the entrance of the mall.
"Traffic was heavy," I said to Un before he could open his mouth to complain.
A/N: The image above does not belong to me. It belongs to the person who uploaded it on the internet.
For those who might not know him, his name is Un Napat Patcharachavalit. He plays the role of Folk in the series My Gear and Your Gown.
It turned out that we were both seafood lovers so our orders consisted of Choros a la Chalaca for me and Peruvian Jalea for Un which consisted of mixed fried seafood with lime marinated salad.
"So how's Puimek doing?" I asked.
Un smirked at me.
"Can we not talk about my older sister for now?" he pleaded.
I wondered why every time he referred to his sister, he would emphasize the word "older" as though it would matter to me whether she was older than me or not.
"Just tell me one thing, anything about her and then we will switch to other topics," I tried to bargain with Un.
"Her boyfriend is coming back from London next month," Un said, watching my reaction very closely.
Whaaattt?" my raised voice made some heads turn from the other tables.
"How come you never mentioned to me that your sister has a boyfriend?" I hissed in a much lower voice.
"Because you never asked," he replied.
What kind of lame answer was that. He knew that I was interested in his sister. He could have at least mentioned the very important fact about her having a boyfriend.
"Thank you for the fantastic dinner," he said, casually draping his arm around my shoulder as we walked out of the restaurant. "Their seafood dishes are worth coming back to."
I removed his arm from around my shoulder.
"Just because you're taller than me doesn't give you the right to put your arm around my shoulder," I complained, still feeling upset that he had kept from me the fact that his sister was taken.
In my book, it was the older person who could put his arm condescendingly on a younger person's shoulder. Unfortunately, it would have been awkward for me to put my arm around Un who was younger than me because I was shorter than him and would have to really stretch my arm upward to keep it draped around his shoulder.
"How did you get here?" I asked Un when we stepped out of the mall.
"By taxi," he replied.
"Let me take you home then," I offered.
"Hey, thanks!" he said which meant he was accepting my offer of a ride.
He gave me his address and I entered the information into my GPS.
When we got to the gate of his house, Puimek was stepping out of it, followed closely by a tall, well built good looking guy.
"Is that her boyfriend?" I asked Un before he stepped out of my car.
"No," Un replied. "Remember I told you earlier at the restaurant that her boyfriend is coming back from London next month?"
"Who is that then?" I asked, getting more curious by the minute.
"Thanks for the ride home," said Un before adding, "that guy is a colleague of hers."
"You're welcome," I said to Un.
I was about to drive away when I noticed Puimek and her colleague stop beside another car that was parked just a little bit ahead of me.
The guy gave Puimek a brief kiss on her lips before stepping into his car and driving away.
I quickly drove away myself before Puimek could see me and recognize me.
My heart was racing in my chest as I tried to focus on my driving. Was Puimek a player?
Maybe it was for the best that I didn't even get the chance to be more than just an acquaintance of hers.
