Part 2- THE VERY BEGINNING
Proverbs 16:24 KJV
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.😃🍨🎂
Flowing down the escalator, I felt a pang of fear engulf me. That was the very first time I felt the emotion called fear.
But why was I scared? I was scared because of the new life I was about embracing and so I regretted being adopted. It was a tensed moment for me.
We got into the uber that took us to our home, the ride went smoothly. Abuja was wintry at that time because Christmas was still in the air. The chills and fear didn't go down well with me. Even the sight of building and skyscrapers, that flung by as we drove, didn't amazed me.
We got home safely, my dad did a tour of the house for us. The house was beautiful but it didn't appease my troubled heart. My siblings and I were taken to our various rooms to relax after giving thanks to God for safe journey. I felt the tears starting to swell in my eyes when I sat on my bed but dad came in at the right time and said what I needed to hear;
"Sometimes life makes us see the wrong perspective to situations God put us through." he said firstly when he walked to my room, "Everything in life has it's purpose. God doesn't want us to understand Him completely but to trust Him completely." he said squatting before me when he got closer."People are given opportunities to be who they were created to be so as to help others rise up." he said cleaning the tears that were about falling down my cheeks.
"Will I remember them?" I asked out of curiosity
"Yes! just keep praying and don't worry we'll also pray with you" he said looking at someone at my back and that was when I noticed Christy was also in the room.
I calmed down at his words, they were what I needed to hear. I wondered why he said what he said and so I asked him, " how did you know I was crying and why did you say those things to me?"
"The Holy Spirit told me you were hurting." Dad said.
" Who's He?" I asked finding the name quite familiar.
"He's the God living in His children." Dad said. And I leaned my head on his shoulder and wrap my hands around him. Not caring that he didn't answer my second question.
"Thank you" I said before falling asleep.
A Two Months later
I woke up to cool breeze caressing my skin, coupled with the silkiness of my bed, I experienced an inertia to stay in bed longer than normal. And I was almost grateful that no one woke me up but I thought too soon.
"Tomisin! guess what?" shouted Elizabeth as she stormed into my room.
"God of mercy and compassion!" I said shocked with my heart beating fast from the sudden loud sound. I turned to see the human being that almost gave me an heart attack. Of course, who else would it be but Elizabeth, the excited. I knew from the day they announced the excursion in school, I was going to have a handful with Elizabeth. That girl can't control her excitement and it can be very annoying at times.
She climbed on my bed and started jumping on it.
"Elizabeth, what?" I asked her as I lazily turned to her
"It's excursion!" said Elizabeth all giddy and excited
" Okay!" I said turning back to relax on my bed.
"Tomisin, you don't understand. I mean you need to get up and bath. Like right now. We can't afford to be late" she said coming close to shake my shoulder.
"Yes, I've heard," I said with my eyes shut , "just give me 10 minutes to wake up properly" I said relaxing into my bed
For some good minutes I enjoyed my sleep, but unfortunately for me, I didn't know Elizabeth was planning something stupid.
As I relaxed into my bed, grateful that Elizabeth let me alone, I suddenly felt wetness on my hair
"Argh!" I shouted as I jerked up. Meanwhile Elizabeth was putting on a sweet smile with a bowl of water on her hand.
" I just wanted to help you wake up quicker. We can't afford to be late" Elizabeth said, sweet smile on her face, shrugging at the end of her statement
I paused my lip, got out of bed and dragged Elizabeth out of my room.
"I'll be out soon." I said as I drag her out.
" Sweet sister, do make sure you bath and come downstairs, okay?"
"Yes of course, I don't want my HAIR wet again." I said stressing the hair to lay emphasis that I didn't appreciate having a wet hair.
I went over to my clock to check the time, it was just 3;30am in the morning.
"Jesus!" I exclaimed, "Elizabeth was talking as if I woke up late"
" Argh!" I said frustrated because I really wanted to sleep but my dearest sister did a good job waking me up.
Resigning to the fact that I couldn't go back to sleep in peace, I went over to the bathroom to brush my teeth and bath. I took me 15minutes to do that.
Coming out of the shower, I felt cool breeze caress my skin.
"Maybe my window is opened" I thought. I made sure my towel was wrapped tightly around me before walking over to shut my window.
My room was quite unique from the rest —of my siblings'— because it had a balcony. Separating the balcony from my room was a sliding glass door. The wind was coming from the balcony and not the window, so I swang the curtains aside to close the glass door. As I did that, my eyes caught a glimpse of something, it was Blue, the new dog.
Sleeping on the grass with his tongue out. I shook my head at that, " That dog is so funny" then I remembered why the dog was here in the first place. Michael was diagnosed with autism a month ago and the dog was here because of that.
"I'm positive Michael will recover from this. Good thing he's a good reader. " I said
"Tomisin!" shouted Elizabeth outside my door
"Argh!" I said annoyed, "I'm coming down, I'm just dressing. "
"Okay be fast, it's almost time for family devotions." said Elizabeth.
"Yeah, thanks!" I shouted back
I covered the glass door with the curtains then went over to my closet to get my school uniform on. It was an ivory shirt with a knee length chocolate pinafore and a bow tie for girl and pre-tie for boys.
After getting all dressed up, I was about wearing my black danica shoes, when Elizabeth barged into my room, so excited.
"It's time for devotions." She announced.
"Okay." I said as I directed my focus back to my shoes. I put them on and followed Elizabeth downstairs.
We walked downstairs to meet dad, mom and Michael in the sitting room
" You girls are already dressed!" said Dad surprised with a raised brow.
" Yes we didn't want to be late for the excursion. " said Elizabeth excitedly
At that moment, I wished I had my water spray, I would have sprayed her till I was satisfied.
Dad and mom just chuckled
"Good morning dad, good morning mom." I greeted them when we got downstairs.
"Good morning dear" they greeted back.
"Let's have the devotions." announced dad standing up to lead.
