NEW LIFE

Arriving to Abuja, was exhilarating for my foster siblings and I. I'm ninteen years old now with five siblings: Elizabeth; my best friend, Michael; my brother with special needs, and David; my biological brother and lastly the twins; Paul and Pauline - mom gave birth to them a few years after we got to Abuja.

For the past five years, we've adjusted well in Abuja; We attended Grace international school every week days, go for exercises on weekends and have family bonding time. No one mess with that, even dad always take the day off work just to make up to the family time. I loved my new family but then I didn't know my family wasn't just them but there was others.

I love my foster brother, Michael, for one thing; his zeal to read and explore life in different dimensions. What do I mean by that; Michael, being autistic, was very Intelligent judging from the fact that he loves reading books. My foster parents were wise enough to provide him with books that impart and not destroy. I think that's what helped him with his condition together with Blue, the Labrador dog dad got him when we got to Abuja. I guess you guys know the reason why. Okay!, The dog was part of Michael autism treatment.

Elizabeth is my one and only bestie apart from Prosper. We do things together we were practically fraternal twins. Elizabeth is a great storyteller. She's an excellent narrator but don't tell her I told you that, or else her head will start swelling like balloon not literally.

Pauline and Paul are my annoying foster siblings. The twins are complete opposite of each other; while Pauline is garrulous and lively, Peter is taciturn and calm. But both never seize to make my day with their comical nature. I guess that's what they have in common.

And then my biological brother, David, I'm literally happy that I have a brother - younger sibling from my parents. Oh!, God knew how much I admire him when I first saw him. He looked just like me just in a boyish way.

I love to talk about my first day in Abuja, when we got to our new house;

We all marveled at the grandeur of our new home in Abuja.

"Oh! my God, James this house is huge and expensive," said my foster mom on our arrival to the house.

"Wait till we get inside!" was my dad's reply in excitement.

Okay, I'll have to do a lot of work describing our house, so here I go;

When we got in, a multicolored polypropylene rug ran through the entire length of the passage which led to the living room. A mini-penchant chandelier was hang at the middle of the passageway. On either side of the walls, were expensive paintings, family picture frames - which now has our family pictures on them, tapestries and huge flower vases. The flower vases stood at the end of the passageway on both sides.

The living room was lighted with recessed lights across the ceiling, wall sconces were at the sides of the room. The room was fairly large with sofas arranged in semi circles toward the Plasma TV. A glass box-like table with animal statuses at it's corners, rested on a grey cotton rug in midst of the semi-circle of sofas. The staircase was at the back of the center sofa. It led to other rooms. At the right side of the stairs, was the dining and kitchen. The left side of the stairs was a wall length glass showing the front yard. A traditional piano stood at the corner.

The kitchen was a modern type, a one wall (parallel) kitchen layout. Opposite the parallel, was an island with four stools. Above the island are two pendant chandelier. The kitchen was painted grey and white. It was connected to the dining; a twelve- seater square table with a vase at the center, stood opposite the Island.

I was perplexed as you are at the grandeur of our house. Till now, I feel like it's all a dream.

My mom asked my dad a familiar question I would have asked him now

"Who designed the house?" asked my mom (foster).

"My mom" he said in amusement "she's an interior designer. She designed it when I was... like 18. She said, it was going to be my future house when I got married"

I had to applaud her work on the house, she'd done a wonderful job with the house. Dad had each of us room designed to our taste a few years after we moved in.

I remembered being sad when we moved and my foster dad comforted me. The first thought that popped to my mind, when I stepped to my room, was my parents; though I couldn't remember them but somehow the thought of them saddened me and I felt a strange feeling of being different. As I was about crying that day, my foster father entered my room just at the right time and this was our conversation;

"Sometimes life makes us see the wrong perspective to situations God put us through." he said firstly when he walked to my room, "Everything in life has it's purpose. God doesn't want us to understand Him completely but to trust Him completely." he said squatting before me when he got closer."People are given opportunities to be who they were created to be so as to help others rise up." he said cleaning the tears that were about falling down my cheeks.

"Will I remember them?" I asked out of curiosity

"Yes! just keep praying and don't worry we'll also pray with you" he said looking at someone at the back of me and that was when noticed Christy was also in the room.

Thinking about it, I wondered why he said what he said and so I asked him and guess what he said;
"The Holy Spirit told me you were hurting." When he said it I knew within me God was planning something wonderful for me. I didn't know it back then but now I do.

So as the years went by, I followed my foster dad's advice and now I'm with my biological parents. Surprised!, apart from that I had a supernatural encounter with God that changed the course of my life forever.

My name is Tomisin Ogunyemi- Johnson and I'll be telling you how it all started after we arrived in Abuja but before that I learnt an important lesson I'll like to share with you; God is busy writing your story, quit stealing the pen and trust Him.

And also my favorite scriptures in the Bible;

Ephesians 2:10 KJV
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

You are also God's workmanship

It was indeed true what my dad told me under the rain;

Some people are in the situation they are in so that they can improve on themselves or release their deepest potential.
