HISTORY- DANIEL POPOOLA

Dr. Daniel Popoola is a famous politician in Nigerian. He was born and breed in Kwara state. He studied Medicine at Oxford University, England. From the previous statement we can conclude that his family is rich. He is the only son of the famous philanthropist in Nigeria, Dr Herbert Popoola. He is married to Cecilia, an English woman, who birthed a beautiful daughter named OLOWO-TOSIN for him. He also has a sister named Damilare. His father is also a politician.

The Popoola family were popularly involved in Nigeria politics.

Dr. Popoola Daniel entered into politics. He wasn't forced into it but he was shown the benefits of it by his father.

A naive Popoola went to visit his father as requested of him. His father said they had important things to discuss. And that's how Popoola got introduced to politics.

"My son, you see Nigeria is like a pawn in the Popoola's hand and the reason being that we rule this nation." said his father

" Dad, I don't understand. How do we rule this nation when none of our family is in power ?"

Herbert smiled,"We don't need to be in power to rule this nation."

"Uh!"

"Yes, you just need influence and money"

"Yeah, we have money, and that's enough. We don't need to spend it on politics jargons"

"Where do you think we got all our money from? Do you think it's from our profession? Ohh no no!" explained Herbert standing up

" You see, my son. The money is from politics. How do we get this money?" said Herbert pacing round the room with his hands at his back

"How father?" asked Daniel innocently.

"Good question my son. We emblezz public funds and channel them to foreign accounts."

Daniel's eye was wide open now. He was shook at his father's deeds. He has never once thought that his philanthropic father was a national rapist.

" But father, you are a philanthropist" said Daniel.

Herbert laughed at his son's innocence.

" That is just a cover to remain in the sit of power and politics. Do you think, I'd want to spend my money helping miserable people who can't fend for themselves. Everything was for a purpose." explained Daniel

"Father but that's not right. I've always seen you as ..." replied Daniel angrily but was cut off by his father.

" Don't you dare question my morals! Do you think if I didn't have moral, I would have cocooned the idea of being a philanthropist in the first place!" replied Herbert with the same tone his son used on him.

" I have morals, strong ones for that matter. In this world there are different categories of people. Those who knows what's going on and make use of the opportunity, those who know and are stupid to grab the opportunity. And those who don't even know what's happening. Our family is in the first categories. We have the honor we have today because of it. Do you think if our ancestors hadn't plan all this from the beginning, we would be living in wealth. We are not doing anything wrong by taking public funds which the citizens are ignorant of. " He said

Herbert was convincing his son this time. He had mange to turn the story around to seem good. Now all what he needed to do was to buttress it in his son's mindset. And he didn't disappoint.

" Politics is ours. We rule politics. Do you want the trend to stop in your generation. Do you want the public to see you as a failure? We kept our reputation clean in the eye of the public and they see us as great achievers in this worthless nation. Do you want that to stop all of a sudden? Son, think about it. Our family's greatness brought a lot of opportunities for you. Do you want your daughter to miss out on it." said Herbert hitting the target.

"No father" replied Daniel.
Herbert smiled at his son's reply

"Now let me teach you the scope."

Herbert taught his son all the scheme necessary to achieve success in the plans to become a disguise great politician. And what strings to be pulled when faced with challenging situations.

That day Daniel discovered many hidden things about his family. He discovered the great connections his family had. His family had spies in every sectors in Nigeria. They had people working for them. And this people were handsomely paid.
He also discovered that all the lies and atrocities where hidden from his mother.

" Father why doesn't mum know?"

" Because it's safer that way. Women can't be trusted." replied his father.

" You'll get challenges. People will find out the truth. But do you know the most amazing thing about Nigerians?" asked his father.

"Uhmm no!" replied his son.

Herbert laughed." You haven't been around them for some years now but don't worry I'll tell you"

" They all have a weakness" smiled Herbert

" Do you know what it is?" asked Herbert testing his son's intelligence.

Daniel shook his head

" As I suspected. It's money. Every Nigerian loves money. And we can use that to our advantage. When it seems some of them want to clip our beautiful wings of reputation. We'll just shut them up with our money and that will blunt the edges of their scissors." explained Herbert idomatically

Daniel entered into politics knowing full well all the conventions his father used. He also knew other politicians just like him.

His family's purpose for getting into politics was to influence government decisions and get them to exploits public funds. They bring their preferred candidates into government positions. And for those that weren't brought into sit by them, they train them to steal public money. They make them think that doing so will benefit them. But it wasn't always rosy, for some particular government they had to pull mighty strings to make them comply with to their wishes.
There was a time his father had rough time getting the governor of Kwara state to do his bidden.

"Sir, I can't do that. The people will suffer " refused Governor Eniola. He wasn't pleased with taking part of the money required to build the bridge at LAO ODOTA, Ilorin for selfish purposes.

" They won't really suffer. Don't you know Nigerians? They're strong." said Herbert trying to minimize the magnitude of the situation.

" Sir, I'm afraid I can't do that. If we don't pump all the money into the bridge, it might develop fault. And maybe collapse one day. Sir! That would be a mighty stain to my regime." explained Eniola.

" It doesn't matter. You'll also have millions of naira in a foreign account. Don't worry so much?" eased Herbert.

"Please leave my office" said Eniola calmly.

" I will. It's either you do it the easy way or the hard way. Your choice governor Eniola " said Herbert lastly before taking his leave.

Herbert pulled the worst string for Eniola. He had his daughter kidnapped. And put him in a tight spot. Eniola honesty couldn't carry him further. He just had to comply.

"God please put an end to this, now I know that it's not by the might of my honesty but by Your grace and support"

I guess God answered his prayers by bringing Engr, OGUNYEMI ANJOLA.

Daniel also faced his own challenges with a stronger and faith filled, Anjola.

But he is yet to discover that his father's assumption didn't apply to all Nigerians.
