          The next day, Tomika sat in class reading her commerce textbook. Jordan had promised her a stroll last night but he didn’t come, maybe he was paying her back for not coming last time. Kiki sat beside her eating some of her leftover snacks from the previous day. She was too angry at her parents to even eat anything from them. Her visiting was useless and boring as usual only that this time it was worse, her parents saw it as an opportunity to scold her and annoy her for no good reason so she ended up walking out on them in tears.

‘did you know your mother was looking for you yesterday, she was worried, do you know how many people went to look for you’

‘She needs to stop pretending and making me the villain when she knows she’s the one at fault. Please don’t remind me about yesterday I’ll get irritated. Gist me about something else’

‘Alright, you were with sp Jordan yesterday, I thought we talked about this Tomi’

‘I know Kiki, he is not that bad you know’

‘That’s how it’s going to start, the next thing heart break’

‘Kiki I’m not dating him, and I’m not going to’ just then, as they kept on talking, Alexander entered the class,

‘Is Tomika in this class?’ the entire class fell silent, all eyes on Tomika, she slowly turned around to face him

‘I’m here’ she said

‘good, come here, bring your things, I’m not sure you’ll be back too soon’ Alex said only murmuring the last part to himself

‘please excuse me, please where am I going’

‘are you joking with me, he didn’t tell you anything’ she shook her head ‘get your things abeg I can’t talk’ she nodded and began packing her books, Kiki gave her a look saying don’t go but she ignored her and went with Alexander.

‘we are going to auditorium?’

‘yup, jay jay is there’

‘are your classmates not inside?’

‘are you scared of them?’

‘am I supposed to?’

‘not exactly’ he said with a sly smile, this wasn’t good, her heartbeat increased as the got to the auditorium where loud music echoed ‘stay close’ he said and took her hand in his as they entered. Everywhere was full with ss2 and 3 students dancing and drinking. She was in shock, students drank in school but not in the open like this

‘aren’t you guys scared of being caught’ she shouted at Alex over the loud music, luckily he heard her

‘nah, its someone’s birthday so we’re safe, a little’ he shouted back, they got passed various tables before getting to the front where Jordan was with the boys and some girls

‘hey Tomi’ Isabelle said, she faked a smile and waved at her, she was uncomfortable, she looked around, seeing some of her classmates with some of the ss2 or 3 boys calmed her down a little.

‘so she’s the Tomika babe’ Rikki said

‘you say it like it’s a bad thing’ Jordan said pulling Tomika to sit on his lap

‘no, it’s not a bad thing, I felt you’ll be with …well never mind’ Alexander chuckled, Jordan frowned

‘be with? say it Rikki’

‘Never mind. So Tomika, what class are you in huh?’

‘ss1’

‘What’s with the questioning, Alex get her a drink’ Jeremy said

‘No, we’re leaving, I’ll see you guys in hostel. Goodnight Izzy’ Jordan said and got up pulling Tomika along. She breathed out a sigh of relief as they got out

‘that suffocating?’

‘you have no idea. How are you guys even comfortable in there and not even scared that sister Rebecca can walk in anytime or even JB especially’ Jordan chuckled

‘slow down tiger, no one is in school that’s why we are this free, and you sweetheart promised me a stroll’

‘which you didn’t show up for’

‘yeah, I’m sorry, yesterday was so tiring, immediately I entered hostel I slept till this morning, it was during class today I remembered and I didn’t see you, I was too lazy to walk to your row or even do anything, and yeah I’m sorry about Rikki, she’s not always like that, she’s drunk’

‘explains a lot’ he looked at his watch

‘we have an hour until prep is over, were you doing anything important in class?’

‘nah, let’s have that stroll’

‘Hey Kiki, have you seen Tomi?’ Kiki frowned

‘she went to meet sp Jordan’

‘why are you talking like that’

‘because I’m angry. That babe nor wan hear word’

‘Kiki leave her alone, she said she knows what she is doing, you leave her’

‘I don’t just want her to come and be crying here is all I care’ that made Mary Jane laugh

‘anyway, what happened to her yesterday, I saw her crying’

‘no idea, ask her later in hostel’

‘yeah I will. Senior CJ’s party is mad o, I’m sure Tomi is there enjoying herself and forgetting she has friends outside that hunger is killing’

‘yeah, I’m sure that’s where she is because it was Senior Alexander who came to call her. What they are going to share at that party ehn’

‘see your mouth like what they will share, I say see the drinks, expensive alcoholic wines, tomorrow go bad sha’

‘I hope Tomi doesn’t drink o before they will use her inside there. Some of our classmates went sha’

‘I wish I had a guy o, that party is mad sha’ that made MJ laugh. The bell rung for prep over and MJ left to get her things and went to hostel with Kiki.

      Meanwhile, Tomika stayed in chapel with Jordan till prep was over, they had walked only a few distance when she decided she was tired of walking and he decided to take her to chapel.

‘I wanted to ask what happened to you yesterday, you were crying so I didn’t want to pester you’ she smiled

‘I don’t really fancy visiting like that’

‘your parents were looking for you everywhere, my mom sent Jessica to find you she said she didn’t see you’ that made her laugh

‘Jessica saw me in class, even though she had called me I still wouldn’t have gone to meet them’

‘did you even eat anything yesterday’

‘nah, too angry and don’t pity me, I don’t regret it’ he nodded

‘where do you live?’ he said willing to change the topic, he prayed she answered him which she actually did

‘Lagos’ she said with a smile

‘it’s obvious, I mean where in Lagos’

‘do you live in Lagos also?’ he nodded

‘same’ he raised a brow before breaking into a smile

‘I’ve never seen you around before, why?’

‘I rarely come out. What’s the use when I don’t live close to my friends’

‘that means this midterm and Christmas you’re going to be hanging out with me’

‘If it means me away from my parents and my house I’ll go anywhere with you as long as it’s fun’

‘are you saying I’m not fun’

‘nope’

‘good, because you need to come out more often and really hang out with the guys, especially Damien and Alex. I know you don’t fancy Damien but I won’t lie to you, he is so cool’ she laughed

‘tell me about the guys, do they live close by also?’

‘Alex is my cousin so yeah he lives there also, its only Izzy that lives in PH’

‘Senior Alexander is your cousin? No wonder you guys have one particular accent, British maybe but now it’s not so clear anymore’

‘hmmm, I thought that accent had cleared a long time ago, I only form it when I’m with my grandma, she’s British, we spent years with her so she expects us to be British, abeg I don’t have strength for all those ones’

‘It’s hot though, take it from me’

‘can you say that again’

‘nah, you heard me the first time, I’m never saying it again’

‘we’ll see about that, prep has been over for like 30minutes now, do you want to go to hostel now’

‘are you going to hostel now?’

‘nope, I have a party to be at’

‘I thought you told them goodnight already, you left that party because of me?’

‘you didn’t look comfortable in there, what did you want me to do and I didn’t like the way Rikki was talking, why are you asking, do you want to come’ he said and got up

‘why not’ a junior student passed, he called the boy ‘put it on my bed’ the boy took the bag and left ‘ready?’ she nodded and they went back to the auditorium. It looked like more people had joined the party. Tomika looked towards a circle of boys doing drinking competition and saw Alex

‘see Alex’ she said over the loud music, Jordan looked towards the group, with a sigh, he tightened his grip on her hand

‘stay close okay’ he said and walked towards the group, twisting Alex ear and pulling him along

‘hey! I’m not even drunk yet’ he said

‘and you don’t need to be, you’re not too stable when you’re drunk and you know that, you’ve had enough, come on’

‘jay jay, stop treating me like a kid, I’m a guy now not a little boy’ Jordan massaged his forehead with his hand, Alex was already drunk and one more round he was going to be crazy.

‘I’m not, you’re not in your right mind now, let’s go meet Izzy huh, you like Izzy don’t you?’

‘yeah I like Izzy, where is she, I wanna see Izzy’ Tomika laughed at the way Alex was acting, she admired the way Jordan was able to get him in his hands. Jordan rolled his eyes and pulled him along to the table they sat in before. Izzy was typing away on her phone, Rikki was lap dancing Damien and Jeremy was drinking with some other boys

‘back so early, I didn’t think you’d want to be here Tomi or he forced you’

‘she wanted to come back and I saw your boy, he is drunk’

‘that bad?’

‘nah, one more and he is officially gone’

‘Jay, you came back, I thought I’d see you tomorrow’

‘why are you seeing me tomorrow Rikki?’

‘she came back or you forced her back’

‘how many have you taken’

‘oh la la, jay jay you really wanna do this’ Izzy said dropping her phone on the table and handing him a plastic cup.

‘I want to taste that’ Tomika said suddenly, they all faced her

‘this isn’t for little girls’ sweetheart’ Rikki replied

‘shut it Rikki, Tomi come this way’ Jeremy said

‘you’re serious about this, can you handle vodka, it’s not red wine o’

‘jay jay leave am na, she wants to try it, let her try it, she’ll taste it one day too na’ Damien said handing her a plastic cup too, she removed the first three buttons of her top exposing her black singlet, taking a deep breath, she drank it, the girls hailed her

‘Oh my God’ she exclaimed dropping the cup on the table, Jordan smirked

‘she wants another one, gosh I’m loving this girl, Jordan your girlfriend is so cool’ Rikki said handing her another cup which she downed. ‘she’s my girl now, come on Iz, dance floor’ Rikki said again pulling Tomika along

‘Rikki no’ Jordan was quick to say

‘I’m there, chill nothing is going to happen’ Isabelle said and walked away to join Rikki.

‘how did you manage to get her here’ Jeremy said passing him another cup

‘honestly I dunno, we were talking, prep was over she said she wanted to come back, I can’t say no to an opportunity to be with her’

‘so you think you’re getting somewhere with her?’

‘yup, give me two weeks, she’s going to be mine’

‘yo! She’s tougher than you think you know’ that was Alex

‘you shut up. If she’s getting this close to him I believe that in a week, all that is left is to ask her out’

‘oh, I already did that, she lives in Lekki also, I asked her to hang out with us during midterm and Christmas’

‘what did she say about it?’

‘she said yeah, she’ll love to’

‘really? Dude you tried abeg, that kind girl how many guys can be bold enough to really ask her out first day’ Damien said

‘so I was thinking we could go to your mom’s hotel’

‘and she can come for Tony’s party’ Damien replied

‘Tony’s party is this midterm? I thought it was during Christmas time’

‘he does it that time also but this year he’s not spending Christmas here, he’s going to New Jersey that’s why he put it now, and even though the party was in December, we won’t have been able to attend, we’re seeing grandma this year jay jay so we’re going to England so I’m not even sure about your going out with her during Christmas’ Alex replied taking a sip from a cup

‘Alexander what are you drinking’

‘water’

‘you’re stupid’ Damien said and collected the cup from him.
