Chapter Eight

Yoongi jumped as cheers erupted around the table as Seokjin, Jungkook and Namjoon paid no mind to the other patrons in the cafe they were in.

"Quiet down," Yoongi insisted as they all began asking questions at once.

"How did it happen?"

"Who kissed who first?"

"How are you feeling about it?"

"Did it go any further?"

"What are you – "

"Calm down!" Yoongi exclaimed. "I'll answer everything, but just chill out!"

The other three laughed. "So..." Namjoon said.

"It happened while we were watching a movie. For some reason it just felt like the right moment. I kissed him first. I'm feeling really good about it. I wanted to stop at kissing, and he was really gentle and understanding about it. And..."

The other three leaned forward, waiting anxiously to hear what else he had to say.

"I really wanna do it again."

Again, the three cheered, and Yoongi rolled his eyes, knowing he wasn't going to be able to stop them this time.

Jungkook jumped up and, as he'd been doing so often lately, wrapped his arms around Yoongi and exclaimed, "I'm so happy for you, Hyung!" Jungkook bounced up and down on his feet, jostling Yoongi around. Seokjin and Namjoon laughed at the look on Yoongi's face.

"Let him be excited, Hyung," Namjoon said. "We've been waiting for this day almost as much as you have."

Yoongi smiled then. "Thanks for sticking with me," he said. "I don't know what I'd do without you guys."

The other three grinned. "We love you, Yoongs," Seokjin said. "I don't think we could be more happy for you than we are right now. And you know that somewhere, she's happy for you, too."

Yoongi's eyes shone with tears at Seokjin's words. "I really think so, too," he said quietly. Seokjin was surprised by this admission, but simply smiled. He wasn't about to question it.

"So, when are you seeing him again?" Jungkook asked.

"Later today," Yoongi said. "He's going to show me his garden."

Jungkook snapped his head to look at Seokjin, who frowned. "What?" Yoongi asked, looking between the two.

"Nothing," Jungkook said. "I, uh, I need to make a call. I'll be right back."

He then stepped out of the cafe before Yoongi could say anything else. He quickly dialed Hoseok.

"Hey, Kook – "

"What are you doing?!" Jungkook hissed.

"Um, eating lunch...?"

"No, I mean with Yoongi. You're showing him the garden today?"

"Oh, yeah! I figured it was time. The plants have grown up strong and are already producing healthy tomatoes. I think he'll be pleased."

Jungkook pinched the bridge of his nose. "Did you not think it would be important to tell Jin and me about this?"

There was a pause. "Are you mad at me?"

"No," Jungkook sighed. "Just a little annoyed. We're still not 100% sure Yoongi will be happy about it."

"He and I have taken a big step in our relationship," Hoseok said. "I think he's ready to see it; I don't think he'll be upset."

"No offense, Hyung, but we know Yoongi a little bit more than you do. Even at this point. And I'm telling you that he may not be ready."

Hoseok frowned, and Jungkook could hear it in his next words. "Well, no offense to you, but some offense taken on my part." he said, trying to stay calm. "I know Yoongi in a different way, and I'm telling you that I think he'll be happy."

Jungkook shook his head. "I'm not trying to fight, Hyung. I'm just trying to warn you. Or give you a head's up, or whatever you wanna call it."

"Well, thanks," Hoseok said, still sounding somewhat insulted. "I appreciate the concern."

Jungkook then sighed again as Hoseok cut the call. He hurried back inside and saw Seokjin staring at him while Yoongi and Namjoon chatted. Jungkook met Seokjin's eyes, furrowed his brow in concern, and shook his head. Seokjin sighed silently, then shrugged his shoulders. Jungkook returned the gesture.

They both knew there was nothing more they could do.

-

Yoongi met Hoseok at his apartment a few hours later, and they decided to walk to the garden. They held hands - something else Yoongi had decided he was comfortable with - as they walked, and Hoseok couldn't help but have a grin on his face the whole time.

As they reached the garden, Yoongi stopped short at the gate. Hoseok glanced at him. "Are you okay?" he asked.

"Umm," Yoongi began. He'd completely forgotten that Hoseok had a garden here. He had been under the assumption that they were going to see a flower garden of his or something. "We're at this garden."

"Yeah," Hoseok confirmed.

Yoongi still didn't move. "You didn't tell me we were coming here."

Hoseok furrowed his brow. "Should I have?"

Yoongi shrugged slightly. "I..."

Hoseok opened the gate and gently tugged Yoongi across the threshold. "Here, let me show you!"

Yoongi struggled to keep up. He was dragging his feet, as he was still not entirely sure he wanted to be there. He didn't want to damper Hoseok's excitement, however. He seemed beside himself with glee to show off his garden to his boyfriend.

"This one's mine!" Hoseok said proudly, standing in front of beautiful, tall, strong stalks. Yoongi smiled a timid smile, trying not to remember how sad and pathetic his own garden had been.

"It's great, Hoba. It's...beautiful."

Hoseok preened as he pulled Yoongi around the garden, showing him every angle. Yoongi did his best to keep a smile on his face. Then, Hoseok suddenly took his other hand in his own. Yoongi looked at him with a furrowed brow.

"I have a surprise for you."

"Wha... " Yoongi's eyes widened as Hoseok headed toward the garden Yoongi didn't want to see. "Hoba, wait – "

But it was too late. As the garden came into view, Yoongi stopped short and his eyes widened. Hoseok looked back at him and grinned.

"How – "

"Your plants weren't dead," he explained. "I saw Jin and Jungkook trying to pull them up, and I stopped them. They agreed to let me take care of them and help them grow. And look; they've done great!"

Yoongi slowly began shaking his head. "How... How could you?"

Hoseok's eyebrows rose in surprise. "What?"

Yoongi dropped Hoseok's hand as he turned to him.

"How could you do this?"

"I – "

"It wasn't your place to do this."

Hoseok swallowed. "I thought you'd – "

"This isn't my garden," Yoongi said, trying to keep his voice calm, but beginning to fail. "This was her garden."

Hoseok's eyes widened. "I didn't – "

Tears sprang to Yoongi's eyes, and Hoseok could tell they were angry rather than sad. "I can't believe you did this. I can't believe Jin and Jungkook..."

"Yoon..." Hoseok reached for Yoongi's hand again, but Yoongi snatched it away.

"You had no right!" Yoongi suddenly shouted. "You had no right to touch what was hers!"

Hoseok stared at him. This was obviously not the reaction he had been expecting.

"Yoon, I – "

"Leave me alone, Hoseok!"

Hoseok flinched as Yoongi used his full name. Yoongi then turned and hurried toward the gate, exiting the garden as he furiously wiped at his eyes, and leaving Hoseok gaping in his wake.

Hoseok couldn't decide if he should go after him or not, but based on the last thing Yoongi had said, he eventually opted not to. Instead he took his phone out of his pocket and made a call.

"Hello?"

"You were right."
