Lucas Bennett || Scars
The wave rushed over me, roaring like a lion. The air was sucked out of my lungs on impact. I couldn't breath, couldn't see. Pain traveled through my body as I was tossed around, turning my vision red. Desperately I tried to resurface, but the waves pulled me under, drowning me slowly.
I stretched my arm out, reaching for a handhold, but all I felt was the sting of debris as it cut through my skin.
Finally, I was able to break through the storm of polluted water by grabbing onto a tree. I gasped, trying to get air back into my lungs. My face felt cold in the wind and my whole body ached.
I scanned my surroundings, trying to identify where I might be. Nothing looked familiar. It was only a vast expanse of water, wreckage, and... human bodies. The blood drained from my face as I watched them float lifelessness with the current.
That's when something struck me. A thought that got my heart racing to an unhealthy speed.
"LUCAS!" I screamed through the crashing waves. "MARIA!"
I glanced forward, toward the sea. A broken car rushed forward, skimming in the water, heading directly toward me. I whipped my hard around frantically, but there was no where to go. My stomach dropped as the car obscured my vision.
Then, I blacked out.
I woke up on dry land with a mouthful of mud. It felt as if I'd swallowed a truckload of the stuff. Slowly forcing my shaky legs to stand, I scanned the area. There was no sign of anyone.
My breath quickened as I began to track forward. From what I could tell, I was alone. My knees gave out as I fell forward. I had no strength, no reason to continue. I was as good as dead. I sat there, sobbing my eyes out like a little child until I heard a rustling sound coming my way.
I stood up a little too quickly. Spots danced in my vision but I didn't care. Racing toward the sound, my eyes widening when I saw who it was.
"Lucas!" I cried, my voice was strange as if it'd come from a different person all together.
Lucas looked up my way, his surprised expression soon vanishing as he collapsed on the ground.
"No!" I bolted toward him, falling to my knees. "Lucas talk to me!" I could feel my brain shutting down from panic.
"Y/n." Each breath he took was short and seemed to drain his strength. "Please... h-help."
His grasp was weak as he gripped my arm.
"I will, I promise! Just hold on!"
It was as if he couldn't hear me.
"Help... please, Y/-."
His hand fell from my arm as the color drained from his face.
My heart dropped to my stomach. "Lucas?"
There was no answer. I grabbed his wrist with my shaking hands to check his pulse.
Nothing.
"No." I felt like I was being strangled. There wasn't enough air. "No no NO! LUCAS!"
Tears streamed down my face as I cradled my friend. He was gone. I couldn't breathe. My vision began to fade.

"Is she alright?"
"I can't get her to wake up!"
The panicked voices in the kitchen kept me from sleeping. Not that I could've anyway. Not after what happened on Christmas.
Finally, I gave up and got out of bed to see what all the commotion was about.
"Mom. What's ha-." I was cut off when she lifted a finger.
"Do you need me over?!" My mom's tone was scaring me. The only other time she'd spoken that way was-.
I shook my head, trying to eat rid of the memory.
The phone crackled. "Yes! Please come! She's not waking up! She... I can't tell if Y/n's breathing!"
My eyes widened. "Mom! Wha-."
"I don't know, Lucas. Something's happening to Y/n."
After taking a second to put the puzzle pieces together, I didn't hesitate to dash out the door.
"Lucas! Where are you going?!" My mom called after me as I left the house. I didn't answer, I just ran.
Fortunately, her family didn't live that far away. We were practically neighbors.
When I arrived at her house, I knocked frantically on the door. Footsteps pounded in my direction as I waited anxiously.
When the door opened, I couldn't hold it in any longer. A hurricane of questions erupted from my mouth.
"Is Y/n okay? What's happening? Does she need help? What can I do to help? Does it have anything to to with the tsun-?"
"Do you know how to help her?" Y/n's mom grabbed my shoulders. I could see the desperation that danced in her eyes. I had to help somehow.
"I'll try, ma'am." I said as she let me inside. I dashed off to Y/n's room, flinging open the door.
She was in her bed, thrashing violently as if trying to escape something. Her hands were around her neck causing her to choke. She was strangling herself!
"Y/n! Wake up!"
No response.
I pried her hands from her neck and she took a breath. At least she was getting air now.
"Wake up!" I tried again.
"H-he's dead."
I jumped, expecting to see her awake, but no.
"He's gone." She sobbed again. I had to wake her up from whatever trauma her dreams were giving her.
"He's not gone." I said, softly this time. I had know idea who he was, or if my friend could even hear me, but I tried.
"He's alive." I reassured, sitting on the side of her bed.
Suddenly, she bolted upright, almost knocking into me. She breathed heavily, her eyes wide with fear as she whipped her head around the room.
"He's gone. He's gone." She mumbled. "He's gone. He's... Lucas?"
Her eyes locked with mine and I could see the relief flood through her body.
"Lucas!" She cried, throwing her arms around me, causing me to fall over.
"Happy to see me?" I chuckled, trying to lighten the mood. She smiled in response, but I could see the tears in her eyes.
"Hey." I brushed some of the hair out of her face. "Are you okay?"
She nodded.
Then shook her head.
"I was back in the wave." She looked down at her fiddling hands.
"We all have scars from that experience." I said. My family had gone on vacation for Christmas and we brought Y/n with us since her parents were on a business trip.
"If you don't mind me asking, who were you talking about? Who died?"
She tensed up at my question as if the scene was all coming back to her. After a moment of silence, she looked directly at me.
"You did."
I froze up, not knowing what to do. It was sweet that she cared so much, but no one deserved that kind of pain. Especially not Y/n.
I pulled her into a hug, trying my best to comfort her. "Don't worry. I'm right here. I'll always be." My voice was barely a whisper.
"Th-thank you." She sobbed, burying her face in my shoulder.
"I don't know what to do, Lucas. I'll never be able to forget like I want to." She sighed. "Like you said, we all have our scars. Scars don't go away."
The fan whirling was the only thing heard in the room. I rubbed her back sadly, knowing I couldn't do much. I couldn't just erase everything she'd experienced no matter how much I wanted to. I couldn't forget it myself either.
"Well," I finally said. "If we're scarred forever, at least we're in this together." She nodded miserably.
I knew there wasn't much I could do for her. The best thing right now was to relax and maybe not go right back to sleep.
Standing up to leave, I looked back over at Y/n who was busy tracing shapes on her pillow. I sighed and made way for the door.
"Wait."
I paused, turning back at the sound of her quiet voice which echoed through the room. Her hand had frozen mid-trace as her intent gaze held my own. "Yeah?"
"Can you stay?" She asked, looking back down at the pillow, awkwardly clearing her throat when I didn't respond.
"Oh! Sure," I said, not expecting her request. "Yeah, I'll do that."
She nodded, somewhat happily and threw some pillows and a blanket onto the small, plush couch next to her bed. I sat quietly, thinking about my friend's dream. I'd had a little hope that things would go back to normal after that trip. What a foolish wish that'd been; clearly, nothing would ever be the same.
At least I had my family, and at least I had Y/n.
"Hey," Her voice cut through the silence. "Thanks for being there for me."
I nodded, although I knew she couldn't see. "No problem, you'd do the same for me."
"Yeah."
Before I knew what I was doing, I reached for her hand and grabbed it tight.
"Promise you'll always be by my side?"
"Of course." I could just barely see a small smile flicker on her face in the darkness. "We both have scars, don't we. Might as well find a new way to heal them together."
Holy heck I haven't updated in ages. I just watched Spies In Disguise and I absolutely loved it so we'll see what oneshot will be next. Please, please, PLEEEEEEASE give me some suggestions and ideas cuz I kinda really need them.
