Winter Wonderland
"It's Winter Wonderland time!" You shouted as you walked into your best friend's flat to which you had your own keys, because it may as well be your flat at this point in your friendship.
"What's going on?" Harrison laughed as he opened the door to his bedroom while Tom was still nowhere to be seen.
"It's Winter Wonderland time, H!" You grinned as you pulled him into a hug making him chuckle at your behaviour.
It was a well known fact that you loved winter and Christmas and it was also a yearly tradition that all of you went to Winter Wonderland to go on a few rides, grab a few beers and mulled wines and just enjoy each other's company especially after Tom's career took off over night.
"You're literally a five year old, (Y/N)." Harrison laughed as you realized that you still hadn't greeted Tom.
"Where's Tom?" You asked as your eyes spotted his open bedroom door which meant he should've heard you come in a few minutes ago.
"Yeah, about that, he can't make it today." Harrison said as he tried to keep a straight face, fully knowing that you would immediately be able to tell that he was lying.
"Ha Ha, you're so funny." You said as you rolled your eyes.
"Of course he wouldn't miss it. He's on a walk with Tessa, should be back soon. Let me text the twins to get ready and I'll change real quick." Harrison said as you nodded and made your way towards the living room to plop down on the couch.
None of them were so hyped about today as you were which quite frankly pissed you off a little. Tom knew this was your day and he knew how much you loved going to Winter Wonderland and yet he still managed to not be at home in time.
I'll rip your head off if you're not home in 5 xx
You smiled as you typed out a message for the brunette boy. The two of you had been best friends since kindergarten and as much as he knew that you would forgive him for being late, he also knew that your message was not an empty threat.
Running home already, Love xx
Tom had this habit of calling you all those pet names. You always told him how much you disliked him for it but he knew how much you secretly loved being called Love or Darling, mostly because you had told him in one drunken night out.
It didn't bother you that Tom always called you that, but it bothered you that those words sparked something inside of you that should have never been sparked.
Those feelings you had developed for your best friend were never supposed to appear and your little crush on Tom as sixteen year old was all it should've been, but Tom being a touchy and flirty person in general made it really hard for you to not completely fall for him.
It wasn't until a few months ago that you had realised that those feelings were more intense than ever before. Everything had always been strictly platonic between the two of you and you were both completely fine with it and always telling people about how it was indeed possible to maintain a steady friendship without developing romantic feelings for each other.
With Tom's newfound fame making it hard for the public to accept that you were only friends, but it really didn't bother either of you since you knew what you were getting into if you were seen with Tom. He tried his best to shut down rumours in the beginning and he always managed to keep the negative comments away from you, but you let Tom know that you were in this with him either way, so he decided to ignore any questions concerning your alleged relationship and started posting pictures and stories with you in them.
When Tom started filming for Spider-Man in London he had brought you along to the set a few times and you caught yourself staring at him a little too long everytime he did his stunts and his scenes.
You first thought that it was just you being proud of your childhood best friend for getting to where he was but you soon realised that it wasn't just the little moments on set that made your heart skip a beat. It was also whenever you were watching a movie and he seemed to be sitting a little too close to you or whenever his hand accidentally brushed yours. You felt your breath get caught in your throat whenever you saw him smile at you or laugh along to something he had thought was funny.
You had tried to push away those feelings as you were certain that he didn't return them since Tom was usually a very straight forward guy who talked about stuff as it happened and he definitely didn't tell you about any feelings for you. You had read dozens of books and seen dozens of movies about the cliche story of two best friends falling in love and realising it years into their friendship, but you never believed that your story was one of those.
"I made it! Don't kill me!" You were ripped out of your thoughts by Tom stumbling into the flat, completely out of breath as you heard Tessa made her way towards you.
The grey Staffy was the first one to show up in the living room as you were already holding out your hands to pet her.
"Beautiful girl." You smiled as you left your place on the couch to slide onto the floor so you could play more with Tess.
"The least you could do is greet me like you greet her." Your stopped petting Tess as your eyes found Tom's brown one's as he leaned against the doorframe to watch you play with his dog.
"You're never as excited about seeing me as she is." You grinned as you tried to keep Tess from licking your face.
"So you want me to lick your face whenever I see you?"
"Who is licking who?" Harrison said as he appeared behind Tom, pushing him into the room and out of the doorframe.
"Are you idiots ready? Winter Wonderland is calling, it wants me to be there as soon as possible." You grinned as you got up from your place on the floor to be greeted by Tom with a soft kiss on your cheek.
"You're such a nerd." Harrison rolled his eyes as he out on his shoes.
"And you're an idiot. Guess which one I'd rather be." You smiled as you flipped him off.
"Tom, I think we both agree when I say that (Y/N) needs to be put on a leash."
Narrowing your eyes at Tom, he zipped his mouth and threw away the key, making you shake your head at his action.
Tom had walked off to change his hoodie while Harrison was play fighting with Tessa when the rest of the crew walked through the front door, telling you that it was finally time to go to your favourite place.
You had been at Winter Wonderland plenty of times and it didn't really change a lot from year to year but you were easy to impress as soon as it had something to do with Christmas lights and snow. There was nothing like seeing Christmas trees lit up in the most beautiful light and the smell of freshly baked Christmas cookies and mulled wine.
Tom couldn't help but smile at you when he saw you take in the Holiday atmosphere. His heart was about to burst whenever he saw your eyes sparkle after you had discovered something you liked. Throwing his arm around your shoulder, he pulled you into his side as the five of you made your way to the Bavarian Village, your first - and the boy's favourite - stop for the night.
"You're still as excited about this as you were ten years ago." Tom laughed as you turned your head to look at him.
He was closer than you had expected but you'd be lying when you said that you didn't welcome the warmth that spread through your body when he put his arm around you.
"You're not appreciating this enough." You pouted.
"Don't worry, (Y/N). I love this as much as you do." Harry said from behind you.
"You just love it because of the alcohol." Harrison laughed as you heard Harry groan, making you assume that the two of them were back to playfully trying to shove each other into random people.
"So? Everyone has something to look forward to. Sam has his food, you've got the rides, (Y/N) has basically everything and Tom ... has (Y/N) to look at."
"Oh piss off, Harold." Tom said from beside you as he let his arm drop back to his side, making you miss it already.
You knew that this was just Harry joking around and trying to wind Tom up, but the way Tom immediately dropped his arm from around you after Harry made the joke stung a little. Of course he didn't like you like you liked him, but it really wasn't a big deal for the two of you to be this close to each other.
Physical contact was nothing new in your friendship. You spent literal hours cuddled up in yours or Tom's bed whenever you felt like it or whenever one of you was feeling down. You loved being close to Tom and he had never looked like it bothered him but seeing him avoid touching you for the next few hours confused you.
You were on your third mulled wine and the boys were on their fifth beer when the band started playing "Angels" by Robbie Williams, making the crowd go wild because there was no other song that banged as much as this one in a tent with hundreds of drunk people.
"And through it all, she offers me protection! A lot of love and affection! Whether I'm right or wrong." Harry was clearly close to being drunk and was about to hop on your table to scream the lyrics even louder when Harrison held him back, not wanting to get kicked out by security - again.
"We're getting kicked out again aren't we?" Sam laughed from beside you as you nodded. "I hate this kid."
"We all hate him." You laughed as Harry stopped singing to look at you with his mouth wide open.
"Take that back." He pouted as the pointed at you.
"Take what back?" You laughed.
"I'll murder you. Painfully." Harry smiled at you as your eyes widened.
"Hey!" Tom laughed as he finally pulled you back into his arms. Welcoming the little gesture, you wrapped your arms around the boy as you let your head rest on his shoulder.
You tried to ignore your feelings for Tom and you tried to be nothing but his best friend, but the alcohol made it hard to not crave Tom's touch, to not wish he was yours and to not capture his lips with your own.
"You two are so adorable. I'm going to vomit." Harry grinned as he earned a clap on the back of his head from Harrison, "Oi watch it, Asshole."
Harry went back to screaming the lyrics on top of his lungs as Harrison had now pulled out his phone to post a story of the drunk idiot on his Instagram. Tom still had his arm around you when Harrison turned the camera towards both of you as you both flipped him off.
"Well, that's going to get taken out of context." You laughed as you loosened the grip around the boy's middle while Tom did nothing but shrug and smile at you.
After Tom had started the evening by avoiding to touch you or get close to you, you hadn't expected him to cling to your side after only a few drinks. He was constantly touching you in some way and it started to confuse you. Of course the two of you were comfortable with each other and his arms felt like nothing but home, but it had never been that intense and Harrison started to notice that as well.
Your mutual friend kept looking at you as Tom's hand was firmly resting on your lower back while he was talking to Sam. He would be lying if he didn't expect the two of you to end up together, but he had never seen the signs as clear as on that day and he could only hope that either of you would finally make their move.
The night seemed to be coming to an end, but knowing your Holland boys, you knew that the after party was only just beginning as soon as Sam and Harry followed you to the boy's flat. Harry was beyond drunk and either being way too cuddly or being way too aggressive and tried to fight everyone who looked at him. Sam had reached the level of him bursting out in songs in the middle of the conversation while Tom and Harrison were their stupid selves.
You on the other hand were knackered after like five or six mulled wines and were quite ready to get cozy in bed and sleep for the next ten hours, but since Tom had intertwined his hand with yours and made no intention of letting it go, you were dragged along to the flat, resulting in you currently resting your head on Tom's chest with your legs draped across Tom's lap while the two of you watched Harry, Sam and Harrison play the old school "Just Dance" on Tom's old Wii, making Tom almost cry with laughter.
"You knobheads can call me Dance Champion from now on." Harrison bowed when the dance had finished before he plopped onto the couch next to you.
The boys were trying to get Tom to spoil the next Avengers movie when you decided that it was time for you to go home - or get Tom to tell you that you could stay the night.
"I think I'm off for the night." You yawned as you lifted your head from Tom's chest.
"You know you can stay, right?" Tom smiled as he put a strand of hair behind your ear while you tried your best to not lean into his touch, "Just grab some of my clothes, I'll be in bed soon, Darling."
While Sam had decided that it was time to pick out another song that had the two other boy's distracted as well, you were very well aware of the fact that Tom's hand was still resting on you cheek with no intention of pulling away.
"Okay, goodnight then." You smiled, still not looking like you were ready to get up from your comfortable spot.
"Good night." Tom pulled away his hand before you got up from the couch only to be pulled back by Tom grabbing your hand, "Where's my goodnight kiss?" He grinned as you rolled your eyes.
The two of you had developed the habit of kissing each others cheeks as a greeting or a goodbye or goodnight and it wasn't really that big of a deal until your drunk and tired brain didn't really understand what he meant as you pulled him in for a real kiss - a kiss on his lips, a kiss that you would've melted in if you weren't so damn tired as you didn't even realise what you had just done.
"Night." You smiled after you had pulled away, leaving Tom speechless as he didn't really understand what just happened. Did you just kiss him? Like it was the most normal thing you had ever done? Like this was something you had done thousands of times before?
You changed into one of Tom's shirts and pulled off your jeans as you crawled into Tom's bed and under the sheets. The minute your head hit the pillow, you felt the realisation kick in. FUCK. Did you just kiss Tom? Like, kiss as in kiss him on the lips like you had dreamt of doing plenty of times? Your fingertips went up to touch your lips as if the feeling of Tom's lips on top of yours was still there.
Tom's had his lips captured in between his teeth as he thought about your little kiss that had come out of nowhere. He knew both of you were tipsy and that you were tired, but he still felt the ghost of your lips on his own.
"So, when did that happen, huh?" Tom was ripped out of his thoughts when his brother plopped down next to him, a grin plastered on his face.
Sam and Harrison had also settled down on the other side of the couch as they were waiting for Tom's answer to Harry's question.
Yeah, when did that happen? The brunette had no idea if something had even happened between the two of you. It was still just you and him, nothing had really changed, but did you finally feel the same? Of course, you had always been this close, but he knew that after he had experienced the touch of your lips on his, he was not going to be able to not wish that it would happen again.
"Earth to Thomas." Harry said as he poked Tom's cheek.
"I'm suddenly very tired. I'm going to bed. Goodnight." He heard himself say as he shot up from his spot on the couch leaving his friends shaking their head at their idiot of brother and best friend.
"Go get her, Tiger - Ouch!" Harry shouted before he was hit on the back of his head by Harrison.
All your sleepiness seemed to have faded away as you were currently internally beating yourself up for being so stupid. Why the fuck did you kiss him?
Your thoughts were interrupted by the bedroom door opening as you heard Tom pull off his shirt and his clothes before you felt the bed dip down beside you.
Soon enough an arm snuck around your waist before you felt Tom place a feathery kiss on your shoulder. Letting Tom know that you were still awake, you placed your hand on top of his as your fingers intertwined with his.
"Thought you were not ready to leave the little dance party?" You mumbled as you felt Tom's grip around you tighten.
"Something made me want to join you as soon as possible." He whispered as you let go of his hand to roll onto your back and staring at the ceiling, not quite brave enough to face Tom yet.
"I didn't mean to kiss you, I-I, m-my brain wasn't really functioning." You apologized as you could only guess how close you were to Tom's face since his arm was still resting across your front.
"I really didn't mind, to be completely honest with you." Tom stated as you could only imagine the little grin that was currently showing on his face.
"You didn't?" You asked unsure of what else to say. Did He just admit that he didn't mind kissing you? And how did he feel about kissing you again? And how did he feel about you in general?
Your mind was spinning and you were pretty sure that it wasn't the alcohol that got the best of you.
"It really wasn't as gross as I imagined it to be when we were kids." He chuckled, "And I'd really like to go back and tell my fourteen year old self that his stupid little crush on you isn't something he should try to hold back."
"You had a crush on me?" You chuckled as you lay on your side, completely facing Tom as the soft moon light managed to light up his face enough for you to see his face.
"I had the biggest crush on you." He smiled.
"Well, I can confirm that I did not have a crush on you when we were fourteen." You chuckled, not quite wanting to admit that you had the biggest crush on him right in this second.
"I wish I could say I still have the biggest crush on you," Tom whispered as you felt his finger draw little circles on your skin from where his shirt had risen up on you hip, "but they say that if a crush lasts longer than four months it's love."
Your eyes widened as you couldn't quite grasp the fact that he was telling you that he had feelings for you. Was this real? Or were you dreaming right now? Was Tom Holland, your childhood best friend, really telling you that he loved you as more than just his best friend?
"What do eight years make?" He smiled as you were still speechless by the boy's confession.
Do something, your inner voice screamed at you as you still hadn't answered Tom's question.
"Eight years make us both fucking idiots for wasting that much time." You smiled as your hand went up to touch Tom's cheeks.
This was your Tom. The boy who had been there for you from the beginning and the boy that had stolen your heart before you had even realised it. Maybe the concept of soulmates wasn't real, but you knew that Tom was the closet you could get to a real soulmate and you knew that there was definitely a reason that the universe had thrown you together into the same sandpit all those years ago.
"So, can I request another goodnight kiss?" Tom grinned. You really didn't have to think further about his request as you pulled him closer as his lips collided with yours for the second time within the last hour.
But this time, both of you poured all of the emotions and feelings you had held back for the past months and years into this one kiss that would change not only your relationship status but also your whole life - for the best.
