Not So Platonic After All

"Where's your 'roommate' by the way?" Harrison grinned as he watched Tom furrow his eyebrows in confusion.

Harrison stopped by at the flat to help Tom go through some of his new lines when the blonde noticed your absence - which was pretty unusual if Tom was home.

"Why are you saying it like that?" Tom asked, not sure what Harrison was on about.

"Like what?"

"Like (Y/N)'s not my roommate?"

Tom and you had been living together for about five years now. You were only 18 when you moved in together, but being close friends for about a decade and always spending time at each other's places made the decision to move in together pretty easy for both of you. With Tom's career taking off and you planning things for your own future, moving in together seemed like the perfect plan to still manage to spend time together.

Tom was a great roommate. Although he was travelling quite often, the movie star always squeezed in time for one of your famous movie nights. They had started as Harry Potter marathons and ended with you watching literally everything you could find on Netflix - because as long as you got to spend time together it didn't matter what you were watching.

You were okay with Tom being away so much, it wasn't like you didn't have a life outside your shared flat. The boy was living his dream and you had promised him to stick to his side through everything and to keep him down on the ground. Harrison and you had tried your best to stop Hollywood from getting to his head and you could proudly say that you managed that quite well.

"Yeah, because you've been living together for what, five years now? And no one sleeps in that second bedroom, mate." Harrison laughed as Tom rolled his eyes.

Harrison wasn't wrong though. You were used to sharing a bed with Tom and although Tom had his own bed, he much rather stayed the night with you, claiming that your bed was a lot more comfortable than his own. You didn't mind one bit to be fair, because sharing a bed with your best friend meant that you woke up to his arms wrapped around you as if he tried to hold you as close as possible before he had to leave again.

The first few nights after the boy would leave were the hardest for you. Of course you were cool with him living his dream and you were super proud of him, but something inside of you felt incredibly alone when he wasn't with you. Tom would try to facetime you every evening before you went to bed but it just wasn't the same with only you - and sometimes Tessa - in your bed.

"So? Her bed is a lot more comfortable?" Tom shrugged as Harrison's face still showed a stupid grin.

"I don't get it, Tom." Harrison started again as Tom tried to focus on the lines in front of him, "Why don't you just make it official? I mean, I'm your best friend! Just admit it."

"Make what official, Harrison?" Tom groaned.

"That you're a couple?" Harrison explained, as Tom almost choked on his own breath.

"What the hell? We're not a couple?" Tom laughed, about to declare Harrison as a crazy person when you walked through the front door, bags full of food in your hands.

"Tell that your grandmother." Harrison whispered as his eyes went back to the script in front of him.

"I know you can see me, boys! Care to help me as well? I saw you trying to avoid looking at me, Osterfield." You groaned as you struggled to close the door without something falling out of your hands.

"Tom, your girlfriend needs help. Go help." Harrison shrugged, looking desperate to get your secret relationship out of his best friend.

Tom was right, you weren't dating and he never felt like this wasn't just a platonic relationship between the two of you. You had been there from the start and he would trust you with his life, but you being his girlfriend was simply something he had never thought about - but thanks to Harrison, it was now all he could think about when he walked over to you to help you with the groceries.

"I've told you already to stop trying to get everything in in one go. The car will still be there if you carry in the first half before going out to get the second half." Tom laughed as he took something from your arms.

"Only losers walk two times. Oi, Harrison, you walk two times right?" You grinned as you followed Tom into the kitchen.

"Your girlfriend needs a muzzle." Harrison shouted and for the first time in those five years you were living together, you saw a blush creep its way onto his face.

"So, I am your girlfriend now, huh?" You laughed as you grabbed some of the things you had bought to put them in the fridge.

"Harrison is just being an idiot." Tom groaned.

"Why does he think I am your girlfriend? He's been wandering in and out of this flat without any warning for five years now, you would think he would've figured out by now that we're not a couple." You chuckled as Tom seemed lost in his thoughts about Harrison's words.

Was it really that platonic if he was able to count the nights he's spent in his own bedroom for the past five years on two hands?

"Yeah, tell him that. He's obsessed with this idea of you and me dating without letting him know, he asked me to finally admit that we're together.." Tom laughed as you put the last piece of grocery away.

"So..." you grinned as you put your hands around Tom's middle as he looked at you, waiting for something ridiculous to come out of your mouth, "Are we going to take the piss a little?"

"W-What d'you mean?" Tom asked. He knew you and he knew you loved to mess with Harrison, which is why he was a bit scared.

"If blue eyes already thinks we're dating, let him go insane by sneaking in a few not so secret clues that we're actually dating before making fun of him." You grinned as Tom's eyebrow furrowed, unsure if he liked the idea.

His brain went back to thinking about this whole platonic thing between the two of you, wondering if that's all it was. He had never thought about it, about you, like that, but now that Harrison had mentioned it he couldn't help himself but see why Harrison would think that you were dating.

Everything was so natural between the two of you. No questions were asked whenever Tom walked into your bedroom to pull you into his chest for a cuddle. No questions were asked whenever he woke up to you softly snoring on his chest as he placed a kiss on your forehead. And no questions were asked whenever he told you he loved you - because he did, he really did, but which love was it in the end?

Did he love you because you were his best friend? Or did he love you - because he was in love with you?

He didn't know how he felt about your idea, because what if it made him figure out his feelings for you? And what if it was just a little prank on Harrison for you? What if he ended up falling and you didn't?

"Tom?" You asked when you didn't get a reaction out of him. Squeezing his cheeks, you managed to bring him back into reality. Reality, where you were his best friend - who loved taking the piss out of your mutual friend.

"Alright, how are we going to do it then?" Tom grinned, seeing this as his opportunity to show his heart and brain that this was just Harrison messing with his head and that he wasn't actually in love with you.

"Don't know, we'll have to see I guess, but knowing Harrison he won't let this go until he has his evidence." You shrugged, "Wait, I have an idea." You grinned as you gathered some of your lipstick from your lips to put it onto Tom's.

"You're actually serious about this?" Tom laughed as he watched you set up his lips so they would look like the two of you just had a secret make out session in the kitchen.

"I committed my whole life to pranking Harrison if you haven't noticed." You grinned as you did your finishing touch, making it look like you had actually been kissing, "I need you to wipe your lips when we walk out there - like you're trying to get rid of the evidence without actually getting rid of the evidence okay?"

"Tell me again why I agreed to this?" Tom laughed as he saw how committed you were to this. Tom always loved your friendship with Harrison, the two of you were always roasting each other and taking the mick out of each other, but he also knew that you would take a bullet for each other.

"Because you love me." You grinned - as Tom felt his heart skip a beat. This was first. You had said "I love you", plenty of times and there was no doubt that both of you meant it, but - which "I love you" was it?

Was it a 'I love you, you're my best friend'- love? Or was it a 'I fell so hard for you and I can't believe how much I love you'-love?

"Do I?" Tom smirked as you gasped, acting offended by his words.

"You better."

"I'm kidding!" Tom smiled as his arms went around you to pull you into a hug, "I love you, ya know? So much." He chuckled when his fingers found your sides to start tickling you.

"Piss off, Holland." You giggled as you pushed him away from you to stop him from tickling you, "Come on, movie star. Let's put on a show."

Harrison's attention was still on the paper sheets in front of him when the two of you walked out, Tom putting on an A+ performance with his lips as he tried to 'discreetly' get rid of your lipstick on his lips.

"Thanks for helping, asshole." You laughed as you sat down on the free spot on the couch next to Tom, making the blonde finally look at you before his eyes narrowed at the sight of Tom trying to wipe his lips.

"Figured you had it all under control." Harrison grinned. "Didn't want to get in between you two."

The next two hours passed quickly as Tom and you managed to sneak in soft glances and soft touches here and there, giving Harrison all the evidence he needed to believe that he was right and that you were in fact dating.

Tom was still going through his lines with Harrison while your head was resting on Tom's leg as you were scrolling through your social media, waiting for the two of them to be done so you could spend some time with your friends. You had noticed Harrison observe you more intensely after the first few glances and touches, figuring he was starting to think he had finally uncovered your secret.

"You both really think I'm stupid, don't you?" Harrison laughed once Tom lost his motivation to go through the scripts again and was now you sitting next to you as his hand was playing with your hair.

"What do you mean?" You asked, putting on your best poker face, because you were sure he was going to tell you that he knows you're together or something like that.

"He may be an actor and you may be - no idea what you are - but you can stop your little show now." Harrison burst out laughing as both of your eyes widened.

"W-What show?" Tom asked as you sat up from your place on Tom's legs.

"You're both so stupid. Did you really think I would fall for your stupid little touches and the lipstick thing?" Harrison laughed as you groaned, finally realizing that Harrison was a lot smarter than you thought he was, "To be honest, I was originally just annoying Tom a bit. I know you're not together, dumbasses. I've watched you with each other for like what? Ten years? And everything else seemed so much more couple-y than the last two hours where you were trying to put on a show for me."

"We thought we could prank you." You pouted as Tom started laughing at your visible disappointment.

"Well, clearly, you can't. I'm too smart for you." Harrison grinned as he got up from his seat, "I'm out for the day, I'll see you two lovebirds tomorrow."

"Didn't you just tell us that you know we're not together?" Tom groaned.

"I said I know you're not together, doesn't change the fact that I believe that you should be together." Harrison laughed as he walked out the door, leaving Tom and you shaking your head at the blonde, "Harrison Out."

"D-Did he just - Did he just say 'Harrison Out'?" Tom cracked up laughing as you still couldn't believe your ears.

"He did, and I really want to run after him to bash his head against a wall." You laughed as you watched tears roll down Tom's cheek.

You didn't know why or when it happened, but the next thing you knew was that your hand found its way to Tom's cheek to wipe off the tear that rolled down his face. That simple touch made Tom's heart start racing when your finger came into touch with his skin, leaving it tingling under your touch. Harrison may have been joking and trying to wind up Tom, but it didn't change the fact that Tom was slowly but surely realizing that this platonic friendship might not be so platonic after all.

You on the other hand, felt it for the thousandth time. You were quite aware of the little crush you had developed on your best friend and for the first time in those five years, you saw the change in the boy's eyes. You could feel him tense under your touch as if he felt it as well - as if the realization hit him like a brick as he found himself lost under your touch. And realization hit Tom - hard. His mind went back to Harrison's words as his eyes flickered down to your lips. Tom knew that he could ruin 15 years of friendship with the next move, but he needed to know.

He needed to know if Harrison was right. He needed to know if he liked you a lot more than he thought he did. He needed to know if you felt the same - so he pulled you in for a kiss that had your mind spinning, your heart racing and your skin tingling.

And after you kissed him back, Tom finally knew. He finally knew that you felt the same. He finally knew that Harrison was right and he sure as hell knew that he liked you one hell of a lot more than he thought he did.

"Why didn't we do this before?" Tom grinned against your lips as he pulled you into his lap, making your straddle his thighs.

"Because you're both fucking idiots!" You heard Harrison say as you sprung apart, wondering when the fuck he had walked into the room again, "Forgot my phone."

"Mate, honestly, piss off." Tom groaned.

"Dibs on best man and godfather for the first child. Just saying." Harrison laughed before grabbing his phone and running out of the flat as if he was going to get stabbed if he didn't leave within the next second.

"I'm probably changing the locks tomorrow." Tom grinned, pulling you back in for another kiss, "Might be better for his own sanity if he rings the doorbell from now on."
