[ E P I G R A P H ]

Okay, before we begin, in Endgame, the ones who were lost to Thanos were gone for only 5 years, however for the sake of the story we are going to make it twelve. You'll see why in the Epigraph :)

After the War against Thanos, Tony had lost more than he could conceive. He lost some of his best friends, and his kid. Peter. However, although technically speaking, Peter wasn't Tony's, he still felt like he was part of the family and when he left, Tony felt like he lost a part of himself.  At the age of three, your father went off to a rather large battle and never did fully explain to you what had happened, but when he came back he was rather distant and just wasn't the same. (Infinity War) Being Tony's daughter, you grown up to watch him suffer, and through the pain he had been a little hard on you. He pushed you harder than any other of his team mates, making sure you excelled in every combat class he put you in. He teamed you up with Natasha on your 10th birthday, and tended the weakest he could when you came out with an injury. He told you to 'man up and get on with it, because life throws more challenges at you than you can ever imagine and if you don't get through this part, it will drag you through the dirt'

However, every night he would tell you the same story which was where you got to see the softer side of him. It always mentioned the same characters, and the same story line:

After tucking you into bed, he would sit down beside you, because he already knew you wanted to hear the story again. You tucked your hands under your head, nestling down into your pillow and listening closely as he began...

[ E N J O Y ]

"Okay, you listening?" he asked, taking one of your smaller pillows and kneeling down onto it. You nodded with a smile and listening as he took a deep breath, remembering the story line.

"Okay. A long time ago, about seven years, there was a young boy called Peter. Peter was a brave boy, strong and curious, much like you" he smiled, poking your nose gently making you giggle. "Peter and his mentor were very close, and soon he discovered he had super powers" your father gasped sarcastically "He was a hero and everyone knew his name, but he kept his identity a secret. He was called Spider - Man.  Every day he was swoop around saving the innocent people of queens and he was known as the city's saviour... But what his mentor forgot was that Spider - Man, was just a little kid, he was just a teenager" your fathers smile faded slightly and his gaze averted to the floor. Although this was your favourite story, it had a sad ending which you didn't enjoy as much. You liked hearing about how he was courageous and brave. "One day, a big fight broke out in space" your father pointed to the ceiling, looking back to you. You followed his hand as you always did, looking upwards and imagining the stars shining "But Spider - Man just wasn't strong enough, and he was swept away to another planet" your father waved his hand in the air gently, creating a gentle draft across your face.

"Dad?"

"Yes, hunny"

"Is Spider - Man real?" you asked. After all the years of story telling, each time it got more and more real. Your father sighed, as if he was contemplating up an answer.

"Very much so, kid" he smiled, ruffling your hair. "Now get some sleep"

"But I wanna hear the end of the story-"

"Y/N, you know the end of the story now go to sleep" he said sternly, getting up and propping the pillow back on your bed. It was expected by now, your father always got a little worked up towards the end of the story. You never knew why, I mean it was just a story, right?

"I love you, 3000" you smiled, grabbing your teddy bear as your father reached your door.

"I love you too, monster" he smiled, blowing you a kiss which you caught in the air before he closed the door, pulling away all the light from the room.

You haven't heard that story in five years. Now at the age of fifteen, you sort of predicted you grew out of it. You would think about it now and again, but wouldn't ask it hear it anymore. Because now you were too tied up in the battle field, fighting along side your father through the battle of a lifetime...

You were flown back into a debre wall as Cap's shield hit you in the stomach, knocking you out of the way of an approaching sediment piece from the building. You shook your head lightly, pushing the shield off of your legs and picking it up. You were strong enough to lift it and place it on your arm, before charging back through the crowd, using the shield in your own defence. Your only target were the infinity stones, and they were being tossed around like a flower vial at a wedding.

"Y/N, the shield!" You heard Cap shout from your side. You began running down a clearing between the two groups fighting, pulling the shield from your suited arm and threw it to your left, the iconic 'swoosh' ringing out as it flew towards him. Cap caught it just in time to stop one of the arrows piercing through him and instead bounced from his shield. More creatures had began to arrive on Thanos' calling, and you were completely outnumbered. You backed up slightly as they began approaching you, Thor pulling you behind him. Your boots crunched against the debre of the once Avengers Tower, glass crumpling beneath your feet.

"Thor, we can't take these, we're short handed here" you yelled, Thor wielding his hammer slightly in his hand. "Yes, I know Y/N" he said sternly, his voice deep while he kept his concentration on the gathering crowd of god knows what kind of creatures.

"Y/N, look out!" Your father yelled, pointing to your right where a shape shifter pounced upwards and was gaining on you from the top. You shot down to your back, lifting up your legs and getting ready to kick it back. But before you could do so, a black shadow flew across your sight, taking the creature with it. Turning your head, you got back onto your feet, looking out to where the character was standing. It looked like a cat, yet it was clearly human. The mask from the suit retreated back, and there stood a man, to which the rest of the group seemed to know accept yourself.

A loud rumble came from the back of you. You covered your head, moving away from an orange spark which was forming in front of you. Your eyes widened as what looked like another world was forming behind it. Out came a man wearing a mask, smiling at you warmly, and then a few more people. Around you, more portals were opening, taking your attention away and looking out to where they were all forming, small and big.

"Y/N, come this-" before your father could finish, you were knocked down to the ground, skidding at least twelve feet from where you were already standing.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry!" a voice came out in front of you. You held your head lightly, seeing a young boy standing in front of you, dressed in a red, blue and gold suit, holding out his hand. You took his hand, pinning it behind his back and spinning to the back of him, pushing your right knee into his lower back and held him down against the ground.

"Y/N stop!" your father shouted from the side of you, slowly taking your hands as the boy let out a groan, his cheeks being pushed down harshly into the mud and debre. You walked backwards slowly and confused, watching as your father helped the boy to stand again. They looked at each other for a moment.

"Hey, Mr Stark, sorry, one second I was floating away and then the next I was on this planet thing and Mr Strange was like 'come on Peter it's been twelve years we gotta go' and then he started doing the magic thing he does-" your father cut the boy off, taking him into his arms and hugging him tightly. You were still stood in confusion as the boy slowly accepted the hug, sinking into him slowly.

"Anyone care to explain whats going on here?" you asked, dodging a bullet that flew past your head. Your father and the boy pulled away from the hug, looking at you before looking at each other.

"Y/N, this... This is Peter" he smiled, placing a hand on 'Peter's' shoulder. You stood there for a moment, even more confused than before. That was Peter?

"W-Wait? Peter? Like, Peter from the story Peter?" you asked, walking towards the two. Your father nodded, taking a deep breath. Peter pointed a finger towards you, looking you up and down slowly. "And you're Y/N?" he asked, slightly shocked.

"Yeah... How do you-"

"Jesus! You were what, three? Like, ten minutes ago" Peter smiled, looking at your father.

"It's been a while k-" Before your father could finish his sentence, a bolt of lightening struck through the ground. From the neglection of what was happening in the background, you had missed out on a lot of the action and the team was falling short without you.

"Come on, we gotta go" you gestured them forward, both your father's and Peter's masks retracting back over their faces as they ran along side you towards Cap. The crowd had gathered in a line, and it appeared so had Thanos' team. They looked bigger and stronger than our side, and you feared what might happen if you didn't win this battle.

"Avengers!" Cap yelled, gathering the attention of the entire team, your milky skin turning a flourished, yet drained pink from the anxiety building in your chest. "Assemble" he signalled, the whole crowd charging forward, including yourself, leading them into battle.

The first creature you approached was within two feet in seconds, to which you firmly took by the arm, placing you foot against it's back and breaking it's spine in two with a clear shot, sending the body to the ground. Peter came in on your left, webbing up one of the other's which were approaching you, we'll call them your classical 'misfits' for now. They fell to the ground, Peter landing swiftly on top of the body, stopping you in your tracks.

"Nice moves" you smirked, retracting your mask for a second. Peter smiled, letting out a shaky breath before a boom caught both your attention. Your mask fell back down over your eyes, clasping them beneath the bullet proof casing before you charged back into battle.

[ T I M E  S K I P ]

You pulled against the high tech metal upon the Misfit, breaking down the shells which connected them together before revealing the icky skin beneath it, plunging your dagger in between it's rib cage and dropping the body to the ground. Your dagger retreated swiftly and you pulled your attention back to your surroundings. Looking upwards, you saw your father pinned chest to chest with Thanos, drawing in the infinity stones before pulling away.

Your mind flashed back to what Bruce had said in the lab, and the last encounter with Thanos. The power of the five infinity stones was strong enough to kill a man who didn't have the inner capability to wield it. It almost killed Thanos. You had to stop your father.

"Peter! I need a boost!" you yelled, picking up your feet as you ran up a small hill, jumping up and into the air. Peter caught you with one hand, the other shooting a web towards one of the hanging cranes sticking out from the building sight. "I need to get to my dad!" you yelled up to Peter, who nodded before looking around to see where he was. Spotting his location, he threw you towards him, one of his webs clasping onto the back of your suit in order to slow down the momentum of you hitting the ground.

"Dad stop!" you yelled, tripping over the soles of your feet as you ran as quickly as possible after hitting the ground, towards your father. Your father took no notice, keeping his eyes locked on Thanos. You were still too far away, you feared you wouldn't make it in time. You were so close when a pair of strong arms wrapped around your waist, sending you flying down onto the ground and skidding in the dirt. You groaned loudly, grasping your hands around the neck of the misfit and bending it's neck to the side, snapping it clean in half before throwing the body off of you and getting back onto your feet. You were getting sick of distractions.

It's like everything ran in slow motion as your father brought his hand to show, the five infinity stones in place. Your heart was in your throat, stomach doing somersaults, tears forming at your lids. "DAD STOP!" You screamed, his fingers clasping together and the faint 'click' could be heard spreading across the battle field. Everything flashed white for a second, knocking you off of your feet, sending your body backwards, crashing with whomever was behind you.

You opened your eyes again to find yourself lying face down in the dirt, and what felt like a nose bleed approaching as the hot liquid ran down your lip and soaked onto your teeth. Remembering what happened, your shot your head up a little too quickly to see Steve approaching you at a quick pace, placing a hand under your arm and helping you up. You gripped onto him tightly, your head feeling slightly hazy from the explosion.

"Cap, w-where's dad?" You asked, your voice low and almost reaching a whisper. Steve looked around, placing an arm under yours and bringing it over his shoulder. He guided you slowly to where your mother was standing, next to your father who was seated on the ground, his face paler than usual.

"Dad?" you whispered weakly, kneeling down in front of him, your suit clanking against the rocks you were kneeling on. Your father was hesitant to answer, he barely moved as you placed your hand on his shoulder. A figure landed beside you, your mother, bringing you into her side as tears began welling at the seams.

"Tony... Tony, it's ok" your mother ushered him gently, placing a hand on his cheek.

"Mr Stark?" You heard Peter's faint voice come from the background, his mask retracting back over his cheeks as you looked back to see him. You allowed him to come into the small space gathering around your father, and watched as he broke down completely in front of you.

"M-Mr Stark... Mr Stark, It's Peter" his voice was shaky and unstable, tears pouring down his cheeks.

"Dad, come on" you let the tears begin to fall, your father slowly reaching up to take your wrist from his shoulder. "Come on Dad, we did it. W-we won we can go home-"

"Y/N.." He whispered, bringing your hand down towards the centre of his suit. You listened closely, but no words prevailed. He pressured your fingers on the button slowly, pushing it down until the light faded out and the colour was drained from his once bright and curious eyes.

"No, Dad-" your voice broke from the whisper, breaching out into a much louder tone as a hand gripped your shoulder, bringing you away slowly. "No, Dad!" You yelled a little louder, the strength of Peter's arms wrapped around you and trying to calm you down. You kicked and punched at the feeling of being trapped, not being able to get to your father. "Let go of me!" You yelled, tears streaming down your cheeks and your breath hitching in your throat.

"Peter, get her back to Queens" Dr. Strange ordered, opening one of the portals to your left. You screamed in pure anger as Peter and yourself were thrown down into the portal, stepping out into a darkened alley way of queens. The portal had closed as you broke away from Peter's arms, stepping out and into nothing but the solid concrete pavement, landing down on your knees, the pure agony of your heart falling apart while you were still breathing.

Peter leaned down beside you, himself getting teary and upset. He leaned back onto his knees, bringing you towards him, and you gave in. Peter sat back against the wall of the alley way, cradling you in his chest as you sobbed into the metal of his suit. Peter gripped you tightly, knowing you were a part of your father, and he needed to do his best to protect you. He had promised Mr. Stark that if anything were to happen, he would be there to take care of you.

After the group had returned, and a civil meeting at your house, many members of the team had decided that they wanted to go their own ways. Hawkeye returned back to his family, having lost part of himself too when Nat sacrificed her soul for another. Steve had decided to go back and be with Peggy, but not without saying an emotion goodbye in private to you. Steve was always your favourite, and you were going to miss him the most. Wanda had followed the rest of the team back out and into the world, willingly going to remain avenging it for as long as they had breath in their lungs, which left you stuck with your mother and Peter.

Your bathroom door creaked open slowly, making you jump and awkwardly wipe the tears off of your cheeks. It was Peter. He closed the door behind him, looking just as rough as you felt, before walking over and sitting down next to you without saying a word. You placed your head on his shoulder, some what feeling like you had known him for years. After all, he was the super hero in your story.

"So your the infamous Spider - Man my dad used to tell me about, huh?" you croaked, your voice hoarse from the crying and your tongue dry from not drinking for a couple hours.

"I guess so. Has it really been twelve years?"

"Since the last war, yeah. Is that when you went missing?"

"I think so, I mean Dr. Strange said something about their being a time capsule misconception in between each dimension, so it's only been ten minutes for me" he sighed, bringing his knees to the floor and placing his hands between them.

"Hm" you hummed in response, gnawing gently on your bottom lip.

"You were three last time I saw you" he let out a jagged chuckle, smiling.

"I don't remember you"

"You wouldn't, I didn't see you that much" he sighed, twiddling his thumbs in his lap before taking a deep and shaky breath.

"It doesn't feel right. I can't get my head around that fact that... He's gone. They're all gone..." You snivelled, holding your breath to prevent the tears from falling again. Peter's chest hitched slightly, only nodding in response as it appeared he was trying to do the same.

"I promised your dad I'd protect you" Peter spoke, making you jump slightly from the abrupted silence.

"I don't need protecting"

"I know, but you meant so much to your dad. He never used to shut up about you, and I honestly feel honoured that he basically put me in charge of you"

You sat up, taking your head from Peter's shoulder and poked him in the stomach, making him wince. "Listen here, spidey" you gripped the seams of his shirt, pinning your arm against his throat and held him against the bathroom wall, straddling his hips as your legs came on either side of him "No one is in charge of me, get it? I'm old enough to take care of myself"

Peter gripped your arm tightly, pinching your skin together as he chocked slightly on the pressure against his wind pipe. "Y/N, whoa, stop" he winced, your facial expression loosening as you brought your arm down slowly. "I didn't mean it like that, I was kidding" he coughed, catching his breath again.

"I.. I-I'm sorry" you stuttered, your cheeks blemishing in embarrassment. "I just miss him" you closed your eyes, gently lowering your head. Peter sat back up against the wall, pulling you into his chest and resting his head against your shoulder, yourself returning the favour.

"I promise I won't take charge of your life, if you promise me you'll stay out of trouble" he smiled as you nuzzled your head into the crook of his neck.

"Fine"

To Be Continued...
