The unexpected crush (Peter Parker)

Requested by ghostwriter3456: Peter realises that he has a crush on his lab partner who's a boy, and starts to get confused because he also thinks that he likes girls. Him and his lab partner kiss at a party and he realises that he's bisexual.

*First of all, HAPPY PRIDE MONTH, MY LOVES!! I really pride myself (no pun intended) on having an account where members of the LGBTQIA+ community feel same and protected, and my page will never stop being that! So I hope that everyone is having a safe and amazing pride month, full of love! That being said, just a couple of little things:

1. this chapter is about Peter realising that he's bisexual. I wouldn't expect any biphobic comments from my usual readers, however y'all know the drill. I do not stand for ANY hateful comments, 'joking' or not, so any biphobic, homophobic or otherwise discriminatory comments made will be deleted, and the account will be blocked.

2. I have used an abbreviated version of the 'f' slur in this chapter, it is not used in a hateful way and I felt it was appropriate for the context. However if any reader is offended by the use of this once you read it, please let me know and I will do my best to rectify the situation.

3. There are mentions of underage drinking and smoking in this chapter. Of course I do not condone that, but again felt it was appropriate for the context of the chapter.

Thank you my loves, and enjoy! XOXO.

I walked into Mr Harrington's science class, a smile immediately curling onto my lips at the sight of my best friend, Peter, sitting at his bench with a dreamy smile on his face and his chin resting on his open palm. I flicked my eyes to who he was looking at, my smile only widening as I saw who had my best friend in such a tizzy all of the time now. I bit my lip and tried not to give Peter away as I gave them a small smile, them returning it as I headed to Peter's bench and sat down next to him.

"Take a picture, Pete, it'll last longer." I teased into his ear, making my best friend snap out of his trance and look at me suddenly.

"W-what? I didn't even see you come in, you okay?" He chuckled nervously as he straightened up and tried to cover up his blushing cheeks from my view.

"I'm fine. You, on the other hand, need to stop just doing puppy eyes at him, and ask him out already." I scoffed quietly. Peter's eyes widened, his blush deepening ten fold as his lips parted, and he spluttered slightly.

"Y/N, I-fuck, I'm not asking him out, I like girls." Peter returned my scoff and shook his head.

"You sure about that?" I asked as I raised my eyebrow at him. Peter sighed and looked ahead again, me following his gaze to look at the back of Tate's head. AKA, Peter's lab partner, AKA the boy who he'd been falling in love with since the start of the year, when lab partners had first been assigned. Peter and I had been best friends since his uncle Ben had died, and we'd been inseparable ever since. Contrary to the stereotype that best friends of the opposite sex always ended up together, Peter and I had always been like siblings instead. We'd gone through so much together, and we continued to be each other's person. And then, Tate had entered the scene. Tate was the typically attractive boy that you saw in every high school movie, his mop of black curls matching with piercingly blue eyes to make him very cute and yet hot at the same time. He wasn't my type personally, but I had quickly seen the look in my best friend's eyes whenever they landed upon the boy. Peter and Tate had been assigned to be each other's lab partners at the start of the year, and from day one, I'd seen a side of Peter that I'd never seen before. He'd become easily flustered and stuttery around Tate, he'd steal glances at the boy when Tate would look away, he would become incredibly nervous whenever their hands or knees would accidentally touch. Peter had of course had crushes on people before, but never had I seen him be this deep in with someone. Now of course, given the fact that Tate was a boy, this had left Peter very confused about both his feelings towards him...and ultimately his sexuality. By now, I of course suspected that Peter was bisexual, and I would love him no less for that, but Peter was still adamant that he only liked girls, and only saw Tate as a friend. I knew my best friend, though, I saw the way that he looked at Tate, and so I was determined to help him not only to ask Tate out, but also to come to grips with the fact that he may not have been straight after all, and to accept that. It was going to be a battle, but I had faith in both of us.

"I tell you what, Pete. Liz is having that party this Saturday, how about you invite him to that? That way, MJ, Ned and I will all be there too, so it's not like you'll be on a date all by yourself." I nodded. Peter sighed and shook his head, my best friend clearly slightly unsure as he looked at the textbook in front of him.

"Y/N, I don't know. I-I don't even like him like that, I-I'm straight, Y/N, I don't feel like that towards him." He gulped and looked back at me. I returned his sigh, a slight sadness creeping into my heart at Peter being so scared about facing this. Of course I understood it, and I wasn't going to force any kind of sexuality onto him, but I could see in his eyes how he really felt about Tate, just as much as I could see that he was scared to admit that to both himself and others.

"Okay, well invite him as a friend, then. It doesn't have to be a date." I reassured him, making the boy look at me with uncertainty again.

"Alright, class, how are we all today?" Mr Harrington asked as he walked into the classroom.

"Ask me again at three-thirty, sir, you'll prefer that answer." MJ quipped, making us all chuckle as Mr Harrington rolled his eyes.

"Alright, very funny, MJ. Get into your lab partners, and let's make a start." He nodded.

"Ask him." I mumbled to Peter, making his eyes widen as I stood up and grabbed my stuff.

"Y/N, no, don't leave me-hey, Tate." Peter chuckled nervously as Tate passed me and took my previous spot. I couldn't help but smile slightly at how cutely flustered he got, Tate giving me a friendly smile before giving Peter an even bigger, more genuine one. Not that I minded, of course.

"Hey, Pete. You good?" He smiled as he sat down next to Peter, and I sat down in my spot next to MJ.

Peter's P.O.V

Peter sat at his bench in science class, an absent smile on his lips and his chin resting on his open palm as he stared at the back of Tate's head. At the black curls that he stared at during every class, the curls that made his heart skip a beat. He wasn't sure how Tate was different from the rest of his friends, he didn't know why he felt butterflies with Tate where he didn't feel them with Y/N, MJ or Ned, but he had to admit that he liked it.

"Take a picture, Pete, it'll last longer." Peter's eyes widened, his heart jumping harshly as Y/N's voice in his ear jolted him back to reality. He looked at her.

"W-what? I didn't even see you come in, you okay?" He chuckled nervously as he straightened up and tried to cover up his blushing cheeks from his best friend's view.

"I'm fine. You, on the other hand, need to stop just doing puppy eyes at him, and ask him out already." She scoffed quietly. Peter's eyes widened, his blush deepening ten fold as his lips parted, and he spluttered slightly. His heart had admittedly jumped in his chest at Y/N's words, his best friend being able to see right through him as if he was made of plastic.

"Y/N, I-fuck, I'm not asking him out, I like girls." Peter returned her scoff and shook his head as he desperately tried to deny to her what he was feeling.

"You sure about that?" Y/N asked as she raised her eyebrow at him. Peter sighed and looked ahead again, his heart once again melting at the sight of Tate smiling and laughing at whatever MJ had said to him. Peter and Y/N had been best friends since his uncle Ben had died, and since Tate had joined Midtown High School at the start of the year, Y/N had been convinced that Peter had developed a crush on the boy who had been assigned to be his lab partner. Which to be fair...maybe Peter had. Tate was the typically attractive boy that you saw in every high school movie, his mop of black curls matching with piercingly blue eyes that Peter could never look away from when they met his contrastingly dark ones. Everything about Tate was perfect to Peter, from the fact that he was smart, to that he could make Peter laugh and smile seemingly without trying, right to the simple fact that he was insanely attractive to the boy. Peter hated to admit it, but he'd become easily flustered and stuttery around Tate, he'd steal glances at the boy when Tate would look away, he would become incredibly nervous whenever their hands or knees would accidentally touch. But that was what scared Peter. He'd had crushes on people before, but they'd always been crushes on girls. The boy knew that he still liked girls, he still found them attractive...but he felt the same way about Tate too. And that admittedly freaked him the fuck out. Of course Peter had no issue with anyone who wasn't straight, but he had to admit that it was beyond scary that he'd categorised himself as straight for the last eighteen years, only for Tate to have come along and made him doubt all of that from the instant that he'd first seen him. Peter was confused beyond belief, his mind not knowing if he was in fact gay, and his brain was just telling him that he still liked girls in order to make that transition temporarily easier...or if he was something in between, and liked both guys and girls. He had no idea, and that admittedly terrified him.

"I tell you what, Pete. Liz is having that party this Saturday, how about you invite him to that? That way, MJ, Ned and I will all be there too, so it's not like you'll be on a date all by yourself." Y/N nodded. Peter sighed and shook his head, his mind still slightly unsure as he looked at the textbook in front of him. He would be the first one to admit that Y/N especially could see through his facade, his best friend definitely knowing about his secret crush on Tate. At the end of the day, he knew that she was only trying to help him, and of course he loved her for that.

"Y/N, I don't know. I-I don't even like him like that, I-I'm straight, Y/N, I don't feel like that towards him." He lied with a gulp and looked back at her. Y/N returned his sigh.

"Okay, well invite him as a friend, then. It doesn't have to be a date." She reassured him, making the boy look at her with uncertainty again. Peter had to admit that that wasn't a bad idea. After all, if things really went south and Tate didn't in fact feel the same way as Peter did, he had an easy out. He could go back to his friends, and they'd comfort him. That was hell of a lot better than them being alone on a date, and Peter finding out that Tate either wasn't interested in him, or in boys at all.

"Alright, class, how are we all today?" Mr Harrington asked as he walked into the classroom.

"Ask me again at three-thirty, sir, you'll prefer that answer." MJ quipped, making everyone chuckle slightly as Mr Harrington rolled his eyes.

"Alright, very funny, MJ. Get into your lab partners, and let's make a start." He nodded.

"Ask him." Y/N mumbled to Peter, making his eyes widen and his heart jump violently in anxiety as she stood up and grabbed her stuff.

"Y/N, no, don't leave me-hey, Tate." Peter chuckled nervously as Tate passed Y/N and took her previous spot so that he was now sitting right next to Peter.

"Hey, Pete. You good?" He smiled as he spread his stuff out next to Peter's, the boy's heart immediately fluttering as Tate looked at him with those killer blue eyes.

"Y-yeah, I'm really good, h-how are you?" Peter nodded as he desperately tried to return the smile through the nerves that he always felt around Tate.

"I'm good, Pete. Ready for another science lesson with you." He nodded, the boy looking at Peter as he teasingly knocked their shoulders together. Peter's eyes widened again at that, all of the heat in his body rushing to his face as he looked down.

"Ha ha, ha, um...do you want to go to Liz's party with me this weekend?" He gulped, the words coming out before he could stop them as he looked back up at the boy. Tate raised his eyebrows, his lips curling into a smile again as he nodded.

"Yeah, Pete, I'd love to! Will it just be us?" He asked, almost in hope. But Peter knew that realistically, that was just wishful thinking on his behalf.

"U-um, no, Y/N, MJ and Ned will be going with us too. I-is that okay?" Peter asked quietly.

"Yeah, Peter, that's fine. I'd still love to go with you." Tate smiled, Peter's heart fluttering again as their knees brushed lightly together. He returned Tate's smile and nodded, butterflies filling his stomach at the fact that Tate had said yes to him, and that he'd sounded hopeful that they would be going alone.

"O-okay, awesome, Tate, um...awesome, yeah. I'm looking forward to it." Peter chuckled and continued to timidly look at his crush.

"I am too, Pete. It'll be awesome. Especially with you." He nodded before looking back at his work. Peter looked down and continued to just smile to himself, his stomach full of butterflies and his mind already as excited as it could be for the party.

Y/N's P.O.V

Music thumped throughout Liz's house, everyone walking around with plastic cups full of alcohol and mixers as they had the time of their lives. I danced with MJ, Ned and Peter, all of us laughing, drinking and just having fun in general as we wound down from the week. I absentmindedly looked at Liz's front door, and my eyes widened as Tate walked in with a couple of his friends.

"Shit, Peter, he's here." I nodded, making Peter also look at Tate as the boy made his way through the house, and immediately out of the back door as he pulled a carton of cigarettes out of his pocket.

"Fuck, what do I do? Y/N, I don't think I can do this, I don't think that I can be with him alone." Peter gulped and shook his head.

"Of course you can, Pete, you've got this!" I tried to reassure him as I rested my hand on his arm. But I could see in his eyes that he was starting to spiral, and I had to stop that now.

"Let's just forget it, he doesn't even like me back anyway, I don't even know if he likes boys, I don't even know if I like boys-."

"Hey, Pete, stop, look at me." I cut him off as I took his face into my hands and made him look at me. He gulped harshly and stared down at me, making me give him a small smile.

"I know, Peter. I know that you're not straight. I don't know if you're gay, or if you're bi, or if you're something else entirely. But I don't care, because I love you regardless. I love you no matter what you are. I know that you're struggling right now, and that's okay. I know that you're struggling to figure out in this world who you like, who you're attracted to, and that's fucking okay, that's natural, and you know that I'm going to be here for you every step of the way until you can be comfortable in who you are, no matter who that might be. But right now, there's a boy waiting outside for you, who really fucking likes you. There's a boy waiting out there who you steal glances at, and he steals them right back. He waits to catch a glimpse of your eyes as much as you wait to catch a glimpse of his. Peter, I love you, and I appreciate more than anything how scary this is, and how confused you are at the moment. But you don't have to label yourself right now, you don't have to rush into doing or saying anything that you're unsure about. But just know that Tate is waiting out there, waiting to see if Peter Parker feels the same way as he does. And this is your chance to show him. This is your chance, Peter. Take it." I nodded, tears pricking my eyes at how fucking proud I was of my best friend in this moment as we continued to look at each other. Peter's eyes stayed glued to me too, his orbs also glazing over as he gave me a small smile and nodded.

"Thank you, Y/N. I will. I love you." He mumbled before leaning down and tightly hugging me.

"I love you too, Pete." I spoke into his ear as I returned the hug, my heart so full of love and pride for the boy that was virtually my brother as I tried to big him up as possible. Because ultimately I knew that he'd need it. But that was okay. Peter pulled away and gave me a small smile, making me return it and cup his cheek one last time before he took a deep breath, and started to push his way through the crowd, and outside to talk to Tate.

Peter's P.O.V

"H-hey." Peter spoke, making Tate turn and look at him as he shut the patio door behind him.

"Hey, Pete, I was wondering when I'd see you. You want a smoke?" Tate asked as he offered the cigarette that was in between his fingers.

"U-um, no, I'm good, thanks. I didn't know that you smoked." Peter chuckled nervously and fiddled absentmindedly with his fingers as he walked towards the boy.

"Only when I'm nervous." Tate smiled at him. Peter's eyebrows furrowed, and he cocked his head at Tate's words as a small smile tugged onto his lips.

"Penny for your thoughts? Or even just why you feel nervous?" He chuckled. Tate nodded and returned the chuckle as he took one last drag of the cigarette, the smoke slipping back out into the air through his lips as he dropped the rest of it and stamped it out with his heel.

"I'm nervous because of you, Pete. I, um, I don't know what your preferences are, and of course whatever they are is completely your business. It's just, um...I like you. Not just as a friend, as I'm sure you've noticed. But of course, as a gay guy, I've got as much chance of being called a fag or something as I've got of actually being told that I'm good, and they feel the same. Not that I think you'd ever call me that, but, um..you get my point." Tate nodded. Peter returned it and looked down, his heart almost beating out of his chest with the nerves that he was feeling as he inched closer to Tate with every second that went by.

"Well, um...to be honest, Tate, I, um...I was-or at least, I thought I was straight...until I met you. A-and, um...I've been questioning stuff a lot since I met you, a-and that's okay. I'm okay that you made me start questioning stuff. Because now, I, um...I think that I might be bi...or somewhere in that area, but, um...m-more to the point...I like you too, Tate. A-as more than just a friend." Peter just about stumbled through his words, though his heart was choking him in his throat with how fucking nervous he was. But before he knew it, he felt Tate take his hand, making the boy look back up at his crush as Tate intertwined their fingers. Tate gave him a small smile, Peter returning it naturally as Tate looked between his eyes and his lips. Peter knew what his next move was, he knew where this was going...and he was happy to let it happen. Tate leant in and gently pressed their lips together, Peter's eyes fluttering shut as he returned the kiss immediately. Of course until he'd started questioning his sexuality, Peter had never imagined that he'd ever kiss another boy, but kissing Tate was beyond perfect. His lips were soft against Peter's, his hand fitting perfectly into Peter's as both of them just sunk into it and let themselves go to each other. After a moment, they broke the kiss, Peter's eyes fluttering open and his heart jumping in his chest as he immediately stared into Tate's beautifully blue eyes. He couldn't help but smile and bite his lip, Tate returning it as Peter leant forward and rested his head on the boy's chest. He couldn't be happier in this moment, he had just kissed his crush, the first guy that he'd ever crushed on, and the world hadn't ended. The opposite had happened, it had been perfect.

"Will you be my boyfriend, Pete?" Tate softly asked as the boy gently ran his fingers through Peter's curls. Peter couldn't help but beam silently at the question, Tate's heartbeat against his head so fucking gentle to tell Peter that Tate felt exactly the same.

"Yeah, Tate. I'd love to be." Peter whispered, Tate's arms wrapping around his body and making him feel safer than he ever had before as the pair continued to stand outside of the loud party, in the quiet air, and just enjoy each other's company. For the first time in many that Peter was excited to discover.
