More than meets the eye (Peter Parker)

Requested by abbyramzt7: Y/N, Peter and Liz are all in the same friendship group. Y/N and Peter have been best friends forever. Both Liz and Y/N like Peter, but Y/N suppresses her feelings because she thinks that Liz has more of a chance. Ned accidentally lets it slip that Peter has a crush, and Y/N is devastated when he starts describing Liz. But then Peter confesses his feelings to Y/N after all.

*Please note: because of the request, I've had to make Y/N's features in this chapter very similar to those of Liz's, so I'm aware that it's not as much of a Y/N chapter as normal, but please don't come for me lol. Enjoy :) xoxo*

"I'm serious, I fucking suck at math." I scoffed, my body lying on the sofa and my legs over Peter's lap as Ned and MJ sat on the other sofa in Liz's beyond luxurious living room.

"Bullshit, Y/N, you got the highest grade in the paper!" MJ exclaimed.

"Yeah, because I copied Peter." I admitted with a nod. My best friend and crush turned his head quickly to look at me with furrowed eyebrows.

"You-what?" He scoffed, making me chuckle at him as I tried to ignore the feeling that his hand on my thigh was giving me.

"Why do you think that I sit next to you?" I shrugged teasingly.

"Um, because we're best friends?" He laughed and shook his head.

"Meh." I shrugged again, making him smirk at me as he teasingly squeezed my thigh. Not that I minded. All of us looked up as Liz walked back into the room carrying a bowl of chips.

"Snacks, for my fave besties!" She squealed excitedly as she put them down on the coffee table before looking at me.

"Y/N, babe, can I talk to you for a sec?" She asked. My eyebrows furrowed, my mind trying to guess what she wanted to talk about as she looked at me as seriously as she ever had before.

"Yeah, sure." I nodded, Peter, Ned and MJ also looking confused as I stood up. Liz took my hand and led me out of the room, my eyebrows furrowing further as I turned to look at her.

"Liz, are you okay? You've got me a little worried." I chuckled nervously.

"Oh, yeah, babe, it's nothing to worry about. But I need your advice. Basically, I really like Peter, and-." My eyes wavered, my heart dropping to my feet as all of her words from that point became muffled and unrecognisable. Had one of my best friends just admitted to having a crush on my best friend who I also had a crush on? Yeah...she had. All I could feel was my entire body going cold, my hands getting clammy with sweat at the same time. Because as it usually went, there was more than just friendship to mine and Peter's relationship. Peter and I had been best friends for as long as I could remember. And for as long as I could remember, I'd had the biggest crush on the boy who saw me as no more than just a sister. Our friendship group consisted of me, Peter, Ned, MJ...and Liz. I wasn't to be mistaken, I loved her like a sister, but if she also had a crush on Peter, which she'd just confirmed, I had no chance of ever being able to be his girlfriend. And that hurt me more than either of them would ever know.

"Y-you have a crush on Peter?" I gulped, my head only just snapping back. Liz scoffed and raised her eyebrow at me.

"Yeah, why?" She shrugged. I shook my head and tried to hide how fucking hurt I was by this. My heart was breaking into a million pieces, but I couldn't tell Liz that.

"N-no, no matter. Thanks for trusting me with this." I nodded.

"Course, babe. You're my bestie." She smiled, making me force one onto my lips as she took my arm, and we headed back into the living room. Everyone looked up at us as we walked back in.

"You guys good?" MJ checked, her eyebrows raising and her eyes flicking to me as if to check that I was okay as I sat back down next to Peter, and Liz took a seat on the floor.

"Yeah, you look like you were discussing Peter's crush." Ned chuckled. My eyes widened, as did Peter's and MJ's as we all looked at him.

"Ned-."

"Oh my god, what?!" Liz laughed.

"You have a crush?" I gulped as I looked at my best friend. He returned the gulp and looked at me, his eyes full of what I could only describe as fear as he opened his mouth and closed it again when he obviously decided that he couldn't think of anything to say.

"U-um...y-yeah, I guess that I do." He nodded, my best friend turning back to Ned and giving him a death glare before turning back to me.

"N-ned's right, I, um...I have a crush on someone." He confirmed. Everything in me was working to keep the smile on my face, my mind determined not to let my best friend see my real feelings as I nodded.

"Oh yeah? Who?" I chuckled as I continued to try and play it cool. Peter gulped again, my best friend's gorgeous chocolate eyes looking into my own before flicking over my face.

"I-I, um...shit, I won't say who it is, but...she has beautiful brown hair, and gorgeous brown eyes, a-and, she's kind of tall, but I don't care, a-and...she's funny, and smart, and j-just everything." He rambled, his head shaking as he talked. My eyes wavered, my head dropping to my stomach as he spoke. Because everything that he was saying was perfectly describing Liz. The brown hair, the brown eyes, the girl being slightly taller, everything described Liz perfectly. And that fucking broke me, even more than her admitting to liking Peter too had.

"Well, I'm sure that she likes you back." I smiled as realistically as I could, even though everything in me was tearing itself apart out of grief.

"I hope that she does." Peter nodded and smiled, his eyes flicking over my face as his hand landed on my thigh again.

~One week later~

Peter's P.O.V

Peter hammered his fist against Y/N's front door, his heart slightly numb as he waited for her to answer.

"Y/N? It's me, please open the door!" He yelled, though he could still hear nothing, even with his spidey senses. It had been a week since the gang had been at Liz's house, and Ned had accidentally let it slip that Peter had a crush on Y/N. And she hadn't talked to him since. Peter hadn't at any point said who he had a crush on, he had only described Y/N, and so he wasn't sure what had caused her to be so distant and silent in the last seven days. But he was determined to find out.

"Please, Y/N! I need to talk to you!" He shouted again. Suddenly, his ears perked up, his heart jumping in his chest as he heard subtle, but there nonetheless, sounds from inside. As if on cue, the door opened to reveal Y/N, making Peter gulp as this was it. This was it.

Y/N's P.O.V

I sat on my sofa, my eyes on my TV as I tried to forget about the last few days. Since being at Liz's house, I had completely ignored Peter. I knew that that wasn't the best course of action, but I couldn't help and be a little immature. After all, the boy who I'd loved for the last ten years had admitted to loving someone else. And that wasn't something that I could easily get over. Suddenly, I heard a banging on my door, making me jump in startle and look at it.

"Y/N? It's me, please open the door!" My eyes widened as Peter's muffled voice sounded through the door. I gulped harshly and tried to stay still, my mind knowing that his spidey senses would be able to pick up the sound of me moving. And as much as I loved Peter, I really didn't want to talk to him right now.

"Please, Y/N! I need to talk to you!" He shouted again. My eyes fluttered shut as I felt my mind give in, a sigh leaving my lips as I stood up and shuffled reluctantly towards the door. This was it. Whether I liked it or not. After a moment of hyping myself up, I opened it, Peter already looking like a deer in headlights as we finally came face to face.

"H-hey." Peter gulped, the boy looking at me with fearful eyes as he stood at my door.

"H-hey, Pete. You okay?" I asked in return as I tried to hide how much I was shitting myself right now.

"Yeah, but, um...can I come in? I really need to talk to you." He nodded. My eyes wavered as I returned it, my heart leaping in anticipation of what he could need to talk to me about. Well, I knew what he wanted to talk to me about, it was more what he'd say that was getting me.

"Sure. O-of course." I spoke before standing aside to let him in. Peter gave me a small smile before moving into my apartment, both of us clearly at a loss as to what to say as he silently moved to sit on my couch, and I shut the door behind him.

"So, what do you need to talk to me about?" I chuckled nervously as I went to go and sit next to my best friend. Peter sighed and looked at me, his eyes full of heartbreak as they flicked over my face.

"I, just. um...I feel like you've been ignoring me, Y/N. Ever since Liz's, and I don't know what happened, but you've barely talked to me since." He scoffed and shook his head. I gulped and looked down, my heart speeding up more by the second as he talked.

"I-I'm sorry, I just...it, um...it's great that you like Liz." I gave him a fake smile as I tried my first bid to change the conversation. After all, I had been ignoring Peter, and I'd been ignoring him for reasons obvious to me, but completely unknown to him. And I knew that wasn't fair, but I wasn't sure what else to do anymore. Liz still had infinitely more chance of being able to win Peter's heart than I did, so ultimately trying to distance myself from my best friend, as painful as that was, seemed the best option to protect myself in the long run. Peter's eyes widened at my words, his mouth falling open as he just stared at me in shock.

"What, Y/N?! I don't like Liz!" He exclaimed with a frantic shake of his head. My eyes widened too, my heart almost stopping in my chest at his words.

"But...you described Liz, a-at her house the other day, you described her." I gulped. Peter's eyes wavered, a sigh leaving his lips as he looked down.

"F-fuck, I didn't mean to describe Liz, I...meant to describe you, Y/N." He admitted quietly. I stared at him, everything in me going red hot in seconds as I tried to comprehend what he'd just said. That he'd just admitted...to liking me.

"What? You meant to describe me?" I gulped and shook my head, my mind barely being able to understand what he'd said. Peter sighed and finally looked back up at me, a small smile on his lips and tears pricking his eyes as he nodded.

"Yeah, I did. A-and I know that I've probably just fucked everything up, because I know that there's no way that you like me back, but, um...the truth's out." He chuckled nervously, a tear leaving his eye as he spoke. My eyes wavered at seeing him like this, but also at the fact that the poor boy thought that he'd ruined our friendship.

"Oh, Peter. You didn't fuck anything up. You didn't fuck anything up at all." I smiled and shook my head as I gently put my hand on his cheek, and pressed our foreheads together. He gulped and looked at me.

"What?" He asked in confusion. I smiled again and bit my lip, my heart racing so harshly in my chest that I was afraid that it would come straight out as I leant in and pressed our lips together. Peter returned it immediately, both of our eyes fluttering shut as his hand also raised to hold my cheek. Everything about this moment was perfect, was beyond what it had been the countless times that I had imagined it. Peter's lips felt soft and perfect against mine, his palm rough and yet still gorgeous against my face. I never wanted this moment to end, but I had a feeling that we were about to get many more moments like this one. I broke the kiss, our foreheads pressing together again as our eyes fluttered open. Peter gave me a small smile and looked at my lips, my heart so full of love for him as he gently pressed his thumb against my bottom lip.

"I really didn't think that that was how that was going to go." Peter admitted with a quiet chuckle, making me smile and bite my lip at how innocent and cute he always was.

"It wouldn't go any other way. Because I really like you too, Pete. I always have." I nodded. Peter smiled and shook his head as he looked down.

"What is it, Pete?" I chuckled.

"Just the fact that we've wasted god knows how many years just being friends, when we could have had this all along." He spoke quietly. I smiled and bit my lip, his words reigning true as he spoke them.

"That's how it always goes, isn't it? But what matters now is that we know. And that that was an amazing first kiss." I scoffed, making Peter laugh and nod as he looked at my lips again.

"Yeah, it was. And I can't wait for more." Peter nodded, making me smile and return it as he leant in and kissed me again.
