The hospital Spider-Man (Tom Holland)
Requested by Aileigh5: Y/N is a single mum whose son is sick in hospital. He's absolutely obsessed with Spider-Man, so Tom comes in as Spider-Man on one of his trips to the hospital. He meets Y/N and her son, becomes attached to her son and starts to fall in love with her, so starts to visit them more and more.
I stood in the hospital cafeteria, making myself a coffee as a sigh left my lips.
"Hey, Y/N." I looked to my side and gave Carrie a small smile as she rushed towards me.
"You okay? How's Jess doing?" I asked.
"Sickness-wise, not great, but happy-wise, she's amazing. And she's amazing because the Tom Holland is coming in today to play Spider-Man for the kids." She admitted. My eyes widened, my heart jumping in my chest as my head shot to look at her.
"What?! The actual actor, Tom Holland, is coming here today?!" I exclaimed.
"In about an hour. He's going to see all the kids, take photos, stuff, everything." She smiled and shook her head. I looked at her, my eyes still wide as I tried to process what she'd just told me. That Tom Holland, incredible actor, and my celebrity crush, was coming into the hospital today. I was a twenty-five-year-old single mum who had practically lived in hospitals since my five-year-old son, Jacob, had been diagnosed with a bad heart two years ago. Jacob was the light of my life, the beautiful little boy always giving me a reason to get up in the morning. Which is why it hurt so much that he was so sick. Another thing about my boy was that he was absolutely obsessed with Spider-Man. Almost as obsessed with him as I was obsessed with the actor who played him. And so, Jacob wouldn't be the only one looking forward to seeing Tom Holland slash Peter Parker today. I couldn't wait.
"I have to go and tell Jacob. Is there someone that I have to talk to to get Tom Holland to see us too?" I gulped.
"No need, he's going to the room of every single kid in the hospital, so he'll definitely get to you guys. Go tell Jacob, kid will be so excited." Carrie smiled.
"Yeah, he will be. Oh my god!" I squealed, making her laugh as I grabbed my coffee and rushed out of the cafeteria. I bit my lip and smiled to myself as I rushed back to my son's room, my heart pounding, and my mind full of excitement at the idea of my son meeting his superhero and me meeting my celebrity crush. Today would be a good day.
I sat by Jacob's bedside, my hand gently stroking my boy's hair as he played with his Spider-Man teddy bear.
"Are you going to show Spider-Man your teddy when he comes round?" I asked.
"Yeah! He's going to think that it's so cool!" He giggled, making me smile and bite my lip at my son who was so full of life despite how sick he was.
"He will, honey, he really will." I nodded. Suddenly, the door opened, making me look up as the nurse held it open.
"Jacob, we have a very special visitor here to see you! Is that okay, mum?" The nurse checked.
"Absolutely fine." I nodded and smiled, my heart pounding in anxiety as I stood up. She returned my nod before he walked in. Immediately, I was in love. Well, more so than I had been before actually meeting him. Tom Holland walked into my son's room, the man's incredible body clad in the famous spandex suit so that only his face was visible. His rich hazel curls were styled perfectly on his head, his features and gorgeous eyes looking even more perfect in real life. Was it too wishful to hope that he'd notice me like I was noticing him?
"Hey, buddy! My name's Peter, how are you doing today?" Tom smiled, his accent American to play the character as he moved to Jacob's bedside.
"Spider-Man!" Jacob gasped, making me chuckle and bite my lip as Tom's smile widened and his eyes flicked to me.
"That's right, I'm Spider-Man! And, um, who's this?" He asked as he looked at me. My eyes widened slightly, my heart leaping in my chest as the man gave me a soft smile, his stunning gaze on me as he just stared at me gently. Stay calm, don't scare him off or say some stupid shit, I thought as I desperately tried to ignore the butterflies swarming in my stomach at how he was looking at me.
"I, erm, I'm Y/N, Jacob's mum." I nodded and smiled as we shook hands over Jacob's bed.
"No wonder he's so adorable." He subtly flirted, making my eyes widen and all of the heat in my body rush to my cheeks as he looked back at Jacob.
"Oh, man, is that a Spider-Man bear? Wow, I bet that I can guess who your favourite superhero is." Tom smiled.
"It's you, Spider-Man! I think that it's so cool how you shoot webs and fly and-and-and how you work with Mr. Stark, and-and how you help the neighbourhoods as well as fight the big guys!" He squealed.
"You know what's even cooler, though? You! You're so cool, not only because your favourite superhero is Spider-Man but also because you're still so happy even when you're not very well, and that's awesome!" He exclaimed.
"Thank you, Spider-Man." Jacob giggled, making me smile and bite my lip as Tom looked at me.
"It's time to move on, if that's okay." The nurse at the door spoke.
"Aw, bud, I have to go, but I'm going to show you something really cool. I'm going to give you a superhero fist bump, and that's going to make you even more strong than you already are. You ready?" Tom smiled as he extended his closed fist to Jacob. My son nodded and returned the fist bump, making me chuckle at the pair of them. Specifically, at how perfect Tom was being with my son.
"Awesome, well it was amazing to meet you two. Keep being the amazing little man that you are, yeah?" Tom smiled as he started to head back to the door.
"Yeah. Thank you, Spider-Man." Jacob giggled and gave him a toothy grin.
"That's alright, buddy, keep fighting. It was awesome to meet you." Tom nodded before looking at me.
"It was lovely meeting you too. I'll see you around?" He asked hopefully. My eyes widened again, my cheeks feeling red-hot to the touch as I blushed harshly at the subtle flirting. Tom fucking Holland was flirting with me.
"I'm sure that you will, yeah." I nodded and smiled, making him return it and bite his lip as he left the room. As soon as he left, my eyes wavered, and I released a breath that I hadn't realised that I'd been holding. Fuck, what a man, I thought as I looked at Jacob.
"Mummy, I met Spider-Man!" He laughed.
"Yeah, you did, how awesome was he?" I smiled, making Jacob giggle and nod as I sat down next to him on the bed and started to stroke his hair. Though my mind was full of hopes and wishes that I'd bump into Tom again because boy did I want to see him again.
I stood in the cafeteria, my hands picking up random snacks for Jacob and putting them on the tray as I walked along the kiosk of food.
"Hey." I looked up, my eyes widening and my heart jumping as Tom walked towards me, the man now back in normal clothes as he smiled at me.
"O-oh my god, hi." I chuckled nervously, my mind racing as I tried to figure out how I was supposed to talk to such a god of a man who I also happened to have a massive crush on.
"It's Y/N, right? Jacob's mum?" He checked.
"That's me. Thank you so much for coming today, Jacob is obsessed with Spider-Man, so I'm pretty sure that it made his life for you to come here." I admitted.
"Of course. These kids are amazing for fighting illnesses every day, it's the least that I can do to help and play my part. If you don't mind me asking, why is Jacob in here?" He asked.
"He was born with a hole in his heart that was diagnosed two years ago. Though, unlike most kids, it wasn't fixable with surgery, so he's on the donor list for a new heart." I nodded. Tom's eyebrows raised, the man nodding along as I spoke.
"Holy shit, that must be scary. Not just for him, for you too." He puffed out.
"I'm used to it now. It's been two years of constant hospital trips, constant good news and then bad news, no-heart news. He doesn't realise how sick he is, but I try not to let him realise. A five-year-old doesn't need to worry that each day might be his last." I spoke, tears pricking my eyes as I tried to stay strong. Tom sighed and nodded as he gave me a small smile.
"So, um...where's his dad in all of this? Because I mean, I've been here for a few hours, and I haven't seen you with a guy or anything." He chuckled. I looked at him.
"What, you've been watching me now, too?" I teased, making him laugh and shake his head as he stuck his hands into his jacket pockets.
"Let's just say that you caught my eye." He admitted. I smiled and bit my lip, my heart racing in my chest at the confession that maybe, just maybe, Tom was just as interested in me as I was in him.
"He couldn't handle a sick kid. So, he fucked off when we found out that Jacob was sick to another woman, to make babies that didn't have holes in their hearts." I nodded.
"Wow, what an asshole. But, since you're single, is it okay if I give you my number? It's just that Jacob is such a cute kid and you, like I said, you caught my attention." He smiled. I looked at him, my mind completely blank as I tried to process what he'd said. Tom fucking Holland...wanted my number. Today really was my lucky day.
"S-sure, yeah, that's fine, sure." I chuckled and nodded, making his smile widen as I handed him my phone. I watched him press a few buttons, my mind in awe of how he still looked this good doing something so fucking simple. Only he could do that.
"And...done. Feel free to contact me whenever, whether that be to ask me to come and see Jacob, or if you want to meet up for a drink or something. Whatever you want, I'm free for it." he smiled.
"Thank you, Tom. I really appreciate it." I nodded and returned his smile.
"Course, love. I've got to go, but it was amazing to meet you." He stated, making me gulp and try to ignore my cheeks once again feeling like the surface of the sun at the use of the nickname.
"It was amazing to meet you too, Tom. Believe me, this was incredible." I smiled, making him chuckle and return it as he turned and started to walk away. I watched him leave before looking down at my phone and unlocking it. My eyes widened, a breathless laugh leaving my lips as I saw that Tom had put himself down in my contacts as 'Tom ;)'.
"Oh my god." I giggled quietly and shook my head, my heart hopeful that this would actually be the start of something with the amazing actor and man.
"Six-year-old Caucasian boy, was complaining of chest pains before he collapsed, heart stopped twice on the way here, BP is way higher than it should be." The paramedic nodded, tears running down my face, my heart racing and my hand desperately clutching Jacob's as he was wheeled into the hospital on the stretcher.
"You're okay, baby, you're going to be okay, I'm right here." I cried and shook my head before looking at the paramedics.
"Please, you have to save him, he's my little boy, please." I sobbed as they forced his hand out of mine before moving him onto one of the A&E beds.
"We'll do everything that we can, ma'am, but you need to let us work." The doctor nodded as more doctors and nurses swarmed around Jacob and completely blocked him from my view.
"Okay, okay, just please help him." I choked and shook my head.
"We will do, ma'am." She nodded before the curtain was pulled across. I just stood there, my entire body completely numb and my mouth hanging open as I stared at the curtain that my son was potentially dying behind. And I was completely powerless to stop it.
"Y/N, hey, hey." An arm wrapped around me, a pair of strong hands gently taking my arms and moving me out of the way.
"I-I don't know what happened, he was fine and then he wasn't-."
"I know, I came as soon as I heard, but I need you to look at me." Tom spoke gently as he forced me to look at him. I stared into his eyes, the chocolate of them being the only thing remotely calming me down as tears continued to stream down my face and make my brain pound against my skull.
"He's going to be okay, sweetheart. The doctors know him, they know what he needs, he's going to be okay." He reassured.
"We don't know that, Tommy-."
"Yes we do, love, we do because they've done it before. Jacob is going to be okay." He nodded as he looked into my eyes. I choked and looked down, making Tom sigh and wrap his arms fully around me as he pulled me into a hug.
"He's going to be okay, darling. I promise." He soothed as he pressed his lips to my hair. It had been a year since Tom had met Jacob and I, and it had been a tough twelve months. In terms of meeting Tom, everything had been amazing. I had been right when I had felt something instantly between us, Tom having texted me only a few days after he gave me his number and asking me out for a drink. Since then, Tom had been regularly visiting the hospital and playing Spider-Man for the kids, each time visiting Jacob and I. And with each visit, he stayed for longer and we'd get talking more, whether that was small nothings or our big questions and doubts in life. But for every second that things were amazing for Tom and I, Jacob got progressively worse. We'd spent more time in hospital in the last six months alone than we had the two years prior, and I had the worst feeling that if something didn't change soon, I'd have to start saying goodbye to my son. Of course, though, both Tom and I were hopeful that he'd get a new heart before that happened.
"He's going to be okay, love. Sit down, come on." He cooed as he gently moved me to the seating area so that I could sit down.
"I don't know what I'll do if I lose him, Tommy, I don't know how I'll cope." I choked as I buried my face into my hands.
"You don't need to worry about that, because that won't happen. He's going to be okay, I promise, sweetheart." He soothed, making me choke and rest my head against his shoulder as he continued to hold me, and I continued to cry.
"Y/N, wake up." My eyes shot open as I felt someone gently shake my shoulder. I looked up, my eyes widening further as a doctor stood in front of me.
"What happened-fuck, is he okay?" I gulped as I shot up, Tom standing up next to me as I looked at the doctor.
"Your son is fine, Miss Y/L/N. We had a couple of scares, but he's stable." She reassured. My eyes wavered, a choke leaving my lips and my heart dropping in relief as I looked at Tom.
"He's okay." I whispered.
"He's okay." He gave me a small smile, making me return it and bite my lip as I looked back at the doctor.
"C-can I see him, please?" I gulped.
"Of course. He might be a little groggy because of the medication that we've given him, but he's awake, so you can be with him now." She nodded.
"Thank you so much." I choked before looking at Tom.
"Come on." I nodded. His eyes widened slightly.
"What, you...you want me to go and see him with you?" He asked hopefully.
"Of course I do, Tommy. Unless you don't want to, of course-."
"No, I, um...I'd love to." He nodded and gave me a small smile. I returned it before taking his hand, his fingers closing around mine as we headed to the curtain that my son was behind.
~Six months later~
"You ready to go home, baby?" I asked, my hands folding Jacob's clothes and putting them into his bag as my son sat on the bed and played with his Spider-Man teddy bear.
"I'm so ready. I'm ready to play with my new heart." He smiled.
"I'm sure that you are, honey. Just remember that we need to go easy for the first few months, okay?" I nodded, making him return it as the door opened. I looked up, a smile immediately curling onto my lips as Tom walked in holding a gift bag.
"Peter!" Jacob squealed, making both of us laugh as he immediately scrambled off of the bed and ran towards Tom.
"Hey, buddy! How are you feeling?" He asked, his Queens' accent present for the sake of my son as he picked him up.
"I feel amazing! I have superpowers now too, so I'm going to be able to fight baddies just like you do!" He laughed.
"You sure will, and I actually got you something for that as well! Have a look." Tom smiled as he put Jacob down and crouched down in front of him before giving him the gift bag. I watched them in silence, my heart so full of love and happiness for both of them as Jacob pulled a Spider-Man onesie out of the gift bag.
"OH MY GOD!! It's my very own suit!! That's so cool, mummy, look what Peter got me!" The boy yelled, making me laugh and Tom smile at me as Jacob excitedly held up the onesie.
"That's amazing, sweetheart! What do we say to Peter for that really awesome gift?" I asked, my eyes flicking to Tom for the last bit. He playfully rolled his eyes and winked at me as a way of saying 'no problem', making me chuckle and bite my lip.
"Thank you so much! Man, that is so cool." Jacob shook his head and spoke to himself as he carried the onesie back to the bed and climbed back up onto it. Tom stood back up and headed over to me, making me give him a smile.
"Thank you. You really didn't have to do that." I chuckled as he curled his arm around my waist.
"Of course I did. It's not every day that the child of the woman that I'm in love with gets discharged from hospital for the last time because he got a new heart." He admitted. My eyes widened, my heart leaping in my chest as I looked at him. Had he just called me the woman that he was in love with? Surely I hadn't heard that correctly.
"Tom, what...what did you just say?" I asked quietly. He nodded and bit his lip as he looked at me.
"Yeah. I'm in love with you, Y/N. Ever since the first time that I met you, but I suspect that you felt that connection too. And, I don't know, I've only felt more attached to Jacob and more attracted to you every time that I've been here over the last two years, and I've been here a lot. I absolutely adore Jacob, he's the most amazing little boy, and I am absolutely, unapologetically in love with you. And now that Jacob is finally well, he's finally okay, I'm hoping that you'll put yourself first for the first time in a long time and allow me to become your boyfriend, and Jacob's stepdad. Because I love you, Y/N. I really fucking love you." He scoffed quietly and shook his head. I bit my lip, tears pricking my eyes and my heart absolutely full of love for him as he spoke.
"I'm in love with you too, Tommy. And to be honest, nothing sounds more perfect than you staying in our lives. I know that Jacob worships the ground that you walk on and I, well...I love you too." I smiled and nodded. He breathed a sigh of relief and held a hand to his chest, making me chuckle and bite my lip at his reaction.
"Good. Because I've waited for two years to do this, and it feels good that I finally can." He smiled before leaning in and gently kissing me. I returned the kiss as my eyes fluttering shut, my hand raising to cup his face as we kissed. Tom's hands raised to hold my waist, our lips touching like they had been made to kiss each other and his hands holding me like they were meant to hold me. Everything about it was perfect, and had been two years in the making. I was just happy that it had finally happened. I broke the kiss and touched our foreheads, smiles on both of our lips as we looked into each other's eyes.
"Come on, then. Let's get Jacob out of here. Because I can't wait to start our new lives together." He whispered.
"Sounds like the perfect plan." I admitted, making him smile and peck my lips again before pulling away.
"Alright, Jacob, let's get out of here." Tom smiled as I zipped up Jacob's bag and Tom lifted him off of the bed before standing him on the floor.
"Are you coming with us, Peter?" He asked, my hand taking one of Jacob's as Tom held his other hand so that my son was walking in between us as we left the room.
"I am, because your mummy and I have a lot of catching up to do." He nodded.
"That we do, Tommy. That we do." I smiled. Tom returned it and gave me a wink as we walked with Jacob in between us, his small hands grasped in ours as we walked out of the hospital for the last time. And boy had it been a long time coming, but we'd made it. We'd finally fucking made it.
