The bridge (Peter Parker)
Requested by americasarse: Peter and Y/N are dating, and the team gets assigned to take someone on a bridge down. Y/N has a fear of water and can't swim, but the team doesn't know this. During the fight, Y/N gets knocked off of the bridge and everyone, especially Peter, starts panicking since her vitals start to drop.
"What have we got?" I asked, Peter and I walking into the missions' room and joining the rest of the team. Tony sighed and looked at Peter.
"You're not going to like seeing this, Pete. Just thought that I'd warn you." He nodded before aiming the remote in his hand at the TV. It clicked on, all of our eyes going to the screen as we watched the footage of someone standing on a bridge. The figure fired at civilians, what looked to be metal wings attached to his back. All of our eyes widened, our mouths falling open as we watched the scene unfold.
"You have got to be fucking kidding me." Peter mumbled.
"Isn't that-."
"Yup. That's my first enemy as Spider-Man. That's the Vulture." Peter muttered, making me gulp and look up at him as he clenched his jaw. Peter and I had been dating since we had met at aged eighteen, marking our relationship having lasted three years so far. I loved Peter to bits, but the one thing that I had instantly figured out about him was how much of a mark his first supervillain had left on him. I knew that he'd fallen for the guy's daughter before realising who her dad was, and had had to pick between being with her and taking her dad in. Of course Peter's moral compass would never have allowed him to let a guilty man walk free for the sake of a high-school crush. But to this day, I knew that he still thought about the supervillain who almost killed him only months after he'd become Spider-Man. Hence why this mission would no doubt be very personal to him.
"He broke out of prison last night and came straight here, I'm assuming to finish what he started with you, kid. Our mission is to take him down. Preferably without using lethal force, but we have been authorised that if we have to, we kill him, but that's only if he won't come quietly enough." Tony nodded.
"Don't worry, Mr. Stark. I'll have no problems with killing that son of a bitch if I need to." Peter spat slightly as his eyes stayed glued to the screen.
"Alright then. Suit up, everyone, wheels up in five." Steve spoke, making everyone nod as we left the missions' room.
"Hey, Pete." I spoke as I took his hand, making him look at me as he raised his eyebrows.
"What's up, babe?" He mumbled. I sighed and returned the glance.
"I just want to make sure that you're okay. This is the first big villain that you ever faced, and I know that he left his mark on you." I stated. He returned my sigh and gave me a small smile.
"Thank you for caring, angel. I'm not fine, no, but I will be when he's either back in custody, or dead. Come on, we need to suit up." He nodded. I returned it and put my hand on his chest, making him give me another small smile as we went to suit up.
We ran onto the bridge, our bodies ducking and moving out of the line of fire as the Vulture tried to hit us with his alien tech. I hadn't let much onto the team since I didn't want to be taken off of the mission, but I was utterly terrified about the fact that we were fighting this guy on a bridge. I had never learnt to swim, meaning that if I got knocked off at any point, I was fucked. I just had to stay focused, and I'd be okay.
"Peter and Y/N, go for his left, Steve, Nat and I will focus on trying to get his wings off of him!" Tony yelled into comms as the man soared above the scene.
"Copy that." I nodded as we sprinted towards him. Once I got close enough, I dropped to my back, my hand pulling an arrow out of my sheath and loading it into my bow as I slid towards him. My feet swiped his legs from underneath him, making him groan as I knocked him down. I turned back around as I passed him and pointed my arrow at him before firing. It landed in the backpack that the wings were attached to, making me smirk as I hit right on target.
"Wing disabled in three, two, one." I spoke before pressing the button on my bow. Electricity shot through the arrow and into the backpack, making the Vulture groan as the wings went limp by his side.
"Nice one, babe!" Peter shouted over comms as he flew over the Vulture whilst firing webs at him. Peter's webs restrained his arms to cars around him that had been abandoned due to the fight, making the villain continue to groan in annoyance and pull on the restraints as he tried to get free. We were winning, and he knew that.
"I'm hearing chatter on different feeds. He's called in drone reinforcements." FRIDAY spoke into our ears.
"Oh, great." I groaned.
"Y/N, get closer to him, figure out how he called them in and destroy whatever he used." Steve ordered.
"Got it." I nodded before putting my bow back onto my back and sprinting towards him. I knew that I only had a certain amount of time before the drones would arrive and even the score in his favor, so I had to destroy whatever he'd used to call them in as soon as possible. That was the plan, anyway. Suddenly, something collided with me, making me yelp out as the drone rammed into my side. I groaned as I was pushed to the ground, my eyes widening as I looked up to see that it was circling back around to me.
"Shit, shit, shit." I gulped as I grabbed my bow and started to scramble away from it on my back. I fired arrow after arrow at it, the drone dodging them effortlessly as it rushed towards me again. I yelled out as it lowered and swiped underneath me, lifting my body off of the safety of the concrete and into the air. My eyes widened, my heart stopping as the water below the bridge was rapidly getting closer to me. I was about to go into it.
"HELP!" my body collided with the water, the liquid sloshing all around me as my body rapidly started to sink. I opened my mouth to scream, the action letting water fill up my mouth as I continued to sink.
Peter's P.O.V
"HELP!" Y/N yelled, making Peter's eyes widen as he heard her shout over comms. He looked around desperately, panic starting to set in as he couldn't see her on the bridge.
"Babe, where are you, I can't see you, where are you so that I can help?" He gulped as he talked into comms. Nothing but static filled the call, making the boy even more nervous.
"Y/N? Y/N? Fuck, Mr Stark, I think that Y/N's in trouble, I can't see her anywhere and she needs help." Peter rushed.
"FRIDAY, do me a favour and give me Y/N's vitals, we need to know what's going on." Tony replied.
"Her vitals are dropping quickly. She's barely breathing at all, and her heart rate is slowing down." she stated. Peter's eyes widened, as did everyone's as his stomach dropped. If they didn't figure out where she was and soon, he'd be leaving the mission without an alive girlfriend.
"Fuck, where is she?! Who's the last person who saw her, where the fuck is she?!" Peter yelled desperately as everyone looked around in a panic. Peter's eyes darted to the edge of the bridge, his eyes widening as he realised. There was only one place that she could be, one place where her vitals were dropping and none of the team could see her. And that was in the water.
"Mr. Stark! She's in the water!" Peter shouted, tears starting to prick his eyes at the realisation.
"Shit. FRIDAY, give me Y/N's tracker, now!" he demanded as he dived into the water. Peter gulped and ran to the edge of the bridge to watch Tony get her, his heart pounding in his chest. He had no idea how long she'd been in there, hell, he'd had no idea that she couldn't swim. All he was hoping right now was that she hadn't been under for long enough to not recover. Tony shot back out of the water, Peter's eyes wavering and a choke leaving his lips as Y/N's limp body was in his arms.
"She's not breathing, I need help!" Tony yelled as he landed and gently laid Y/N down on the concrete.
"No, no, no." Peter mumbled, his mind starting to realise the worst as he rushed to her side and collapsed by her body.
"Come on, baby, breathe, breathe for me, please." He choked, his entire body in full-on panic mode as he put his shaking hands to her chest and started to push down. He continued to press on her chest, his fingers trembling against her skin as tears ran down his face. He couldn't lose her now, not after everything that they'd been through together. They'd stopped Thanos together, they'd saved the world numerous times, having fallen into a river couldn't be what killed the love of his life.
"Her heart rate is slowing down. She's fading." FRIDAY spoke into their ears.
"No, she can't, no." Peter choked as he pulled his mask off before tilting Y/N's chin up and pinching her nose. He leant down and placed his lips to hers, his lungs blowing air into hers as he desperately tried to get her breathing again. He blew another breath into her mouth, his vision getting blurred with how much he was crying as his mind started to come to terms with the fact that maybe, he had actually lost her. But he wouldn't give up yet. He blew one last breath past her lips, his eyes widening as he felt her body surge.
Y/N's P.O.V
My eyes shot open as I felt water rushing up my throat. I sat up quickly and coughed harshly, the water leaving my body and my mouth as I let air fill my lungs.
"Oh my god, you fucking scared me half to death." Peter sighed in relief, my boyfriend crouched on his knees next to me as he wrapped his arms tightly around me.
"What happened?" I mumbled as I looked up at everyone in confusion.
"The Vulture called in drones, and one knocked you into the river. Would have been very useful information to know that you can't swim, honey." Natasha chuckled. I sighed and gave them a sheepish smile.
"Sorry. I didn't want to be picked off of certain missions because I can't swim. I just assumed that it would be okay. I mean, it still was, I'm still here, aren't I?" I chuckled.
"But you very nearly weren't, baby. We almost lost you. I almost lost you." Peter choked. I sighed and looked up at him, my heart breaking at the sight of his red and puffy eyes. Shit, I thought, I really scared him.
"I'm sorry, Pete. I really didn't mean to scare you. I've never really needed to know how to swim before, so I just never learnt. Maybe I should now, though." I admitted.
"Yes, you should, and I'm going to teach you. I'm not having you almost die on me again. You're too precious to me to let you die." He teased, making me chuckle and bite my lip as I leant in and gently pecked his lips.
"Alright, we have the Vulture in custody, we're good to go." Tony nodded.
"Alright then." Peter returned the nod, making me squeal and quickly raise my arms to circle his neck as he picked me up bridal style.
"Pete, I'm fine, I can walk." I chuckled as he started to carry me to the jetti.
"You almost just drowned, angel, you're not walking anywhere until you've been checked out." He scoffed. I chuckled again and shook my head but let Peter carry me back to the jetti anyway. After all, I knew that his worry was only out of love and care for me, and that's exactly why I loved him back. He sat down on a seat in the jetti with me in his arms, his lips pressing to my head as he just held me. I could tell that I'd really scared him with the incident, hence why he didn't want to let go. Not that I was complaining. If I had it my way, he'd never let me go again.
