The boy next door *part 4* (Tom Holland)

Requested by mrsholland199601: Two days have passed since Y/N and Jacob fought, and she decides to go and see him to try and make things right, and so tells Tom where she's going before leaving. She goes to Jacob's only to find him kissing another girl, and so she breaks up with him and goes to seek comfort from Tom.

"I'm serious! He's infinitely the better superhero!" Tom exclaimed, making me laugh and shake my head as we sat on his bed cross-legged and dipped our spoons into the carton of ice cream that sat between us.

"I'm sorry but I just prefer Batman. It's like how Iron-Man is also better than Spider-Man. Rich always wins." I chuckled and shook my head.

"I swear that you're in cahoots with Harrison or something." He smiled.

"Who's Harrison?" I asked as I stuck another spoonful of ice cream into my mouth.

"He's my best mate, and we've had this argument going since we were kids because I've always preferred Spider-Man and he's always preferred Batman. Of course, I'm right." He nodded, making me smirk and shake my head as we continued to eat the ice cream. It had been two days since Jacob and I had had our massive fight, and Tom and I had been practically joined at the hip since. We had ended up falling asleep together after he had come to comfort me, and we'd pretty much hung out since. I'd sent Jacob one text this morning asking to meet up in an attempt to reconcile with him, though I hadn't heard back, and being with Tom was majorly helping me to deal with what was potentially the end of my relationship. Part of me even hoped that it was the end, every time that Tom had made me laugh, smile or just feel cared about in the last two days not helping my developing feelings for the boy and not helping my disappearing willingness to stick out my relationship with Jacob. Maybe things with Jacob had run their course, and maybe things with Tom were just about to start. Suddenly, my phone buzzed, making me look down at it. My smile dipped, Tom noticing as his gaze flicked over my face.

"It's him, isn't it? Jacob replied." Tom stated. I scoffed and shook my head, tears pricking my eyes as I picked my phone up and read the text.

Jacob: Can talk but busy rn.

"Yeah, he replied, being his usual asshole self. Apparently, he's too busy right now to fix things with his girlfriend." I mumbled. Tom sighed and looked at me.

"Y/N, love...please don't take this the wrong way, but would it really be so bad if you guys didn't fix things?" He asked. I looked at him, my eyes widening slightly at his words.

"What do you mean, Tommy?" I scoffed.

"I mean that he won't have stopped being an asshole in two days. I mean that you were rightfully so really upset about your fight, about the fact that he treats you like just some girl that he's fucking, and not his girlfriend. He's been doing it for a year too, so it doesn't look like he's about to change. So, I-I don't know, would it really be so bad if this was how things ended?" He gulped. I returned it and looked at him as I bit my lip. Because he was right. Jacob was an asshole, Tom's kind and caring nature only making that more clear by the day. But at the same time, I had to know if Jacob was willing to change for the sake of our relationship, or if this was the end of the road for us. Only then could I move on with closure, and potentially pursue a relationship with Tom in the future. After all, that was what I seemed to want more by the day.

"The way I see it, this ends in one of two ways. I go over there, we fight, he agrees to start treating me with respect to his friends, and we're okay. Or, I go over there, we fight, he refuses to stop and so we break up. I'd be willing to bet that the latter will happen, but I need to know, Tommy. I won't be able to move on with closure unless I give this one last chance." I nodded. He sighed and returned the nod.

"I understand that, Y/N. For what it's worth, I hope that you get the closure that you're looking for." He spoke.

"Thanks, Tommy. I hope so too." I gave him a small smile before standing up and grabbing my jacket. Tom's eyebrows furrowed as he followed me with his gaze.

"Wait, where are you going, Y/N?" He scoffed as I shrugged the jacket on. I looked at him.

"I'm going to go and see Jacob." I stated. His eyes widened and his mouth fell open.

"What-I didn't think that you meant right now, he said that he was busy-."

"He's either lying to me to get out of having this conversation, or he's actually busy and I'll happily fuck off back here. But the sooner that I know whether or not I'm still in a relationship, the sooner I can get out of this fucked up limbo that I seem to be stuck in with him." I choked and shook my head. Tom's face softened, a sigh leaving his lips as he stood up.

"Don't cry, love, come on, it's going to be okay." He reassured me as he wrapped his arms around my waist in a hug. I sighed out and closed my eyes as I returned the hug, the boy's gentle heartbeat calming me down as I just let him hug me. It felt like these days, Tom was the only person who could soothe me again, and I couldn't tell yet if that was a good or a bad thing.

"As much as I love this, I should really go." I admitted as I pulled away. Tom sighed and nodded as he gave me a small smile.

"Okay, Y/N. But I'm here all day, so come and find me when you get home if you need to, yeah?" He offered. I bit my lip and looked at him, tears pricking my eyes at the kindness of his words. Not that I was that surprised, after all, Tom had been nothing but kind since we'd first started hanging out more.

"Thanks, Tommy. I appreciate it." I nodded, making him return it and give me a small smile as I left his room.

I walked along the corridor to Jacob's flat, my heart in my throat at the idea of confronting him after two days of radio silence from both of us. After all, that silence had given me a lot of time to think over the last forty-eight hours, a lot of time with Tom too, and I wasn't sure anymore if I wanted to make things right with Jacob. But I figured that I at least had to try. I got to the door and knocked on it before lowering my fist again. My eyebrows furrowed as I could hear laughing and giggling from inside the flat, but no sounds telling me that Jacob was coming to the door.

"Jacob? I can hear you inside, open the door." I sighed, my eyes rolling as I still got no response. I scoffed and shook my head, my boyfriend clearly having lied about being busy as I dug my hand into my pocket and grabbed the key that I had for his flat. I put it into the lock and turned before opening the door.

"Jacob, what's-." I stopped speaking, my eyes widening as he and the girl sitting next to him on his sofa rushed to break the kiss and jump apart. My mouth fell open, a choke leaving my lips and my heart breaking into a thousand pieces as I looked at them. They may have jumped apart, but it was painfully obvious that they'd been kissing as I'd walked in. I looked at Jacob.

"This was what you meant by you being busy? Busy trying to fuck another girl?" I choked and nodded as my entire body started to feel numb.

"Y/n, what are you doing here? I told you that I was busy, I told you that I couldn't talk." He scoffed as he stood up and walked around the sofa to stand in front of me. My eyes widened further at the fucking audacity of this asshole to try and turn this on me.

"Jacob, fucking hell, that excuse became void the second that you 'being busy' meant you about to fuck someone else! I came here because I wanted to talk, to try and fix our fucking broken relationship, but it's all too fucking clear now that you're not at all interested in that!" I cried and shook my head.

"I am interested in fixing our relationship, babe-."

"Don't fucking call me that, and don't lie to me. I've just caught you kissing another girl, there is literally nothing that you can say to make this alright." I choked and shook my head as I held a hand to my hair. My heart was breaking, my entire body numb from the grief of finding out that Jacob had been cheating on me for god knows how long. All I knew for certain right now was that I wanted to be in Tom's arms, and I wanted to be in them now.

"Please, Y/N, let me try-."

"No, no trying, no redemption, just no. We're done." I choked and shook my head again, making Jacob sigh as I turned and rushed back out of his flat.

Tom's P.O.V

Tom sat at his desk, his laptop open in front of him as he tried to focus on his work. But in reality, all he was focused on was his thoughts of Y/N. She had left his house to go and talk to Jacob half an hour ago, and he hadn't stopped thinking about her since. Tom felt awful having these thoughts, but he couldn't help but silently beg for them to not work it out, and for her to break up with him. Even if it wasn't for Tom being in love with her practically, Jacob had turned out to be a massive asshole and Y/N deserved so much better, even if that just meant that she found someone else and stayed just friends with Tom. But of course, he was hoping for more. He snapped out of his thoughts as he heard a car pull into Y/N's driveway. He pushed his chair back and reclined to look out of his window. His eyes widened, his heart jumping in his chest as he saw a very upset and tearful Y/N get out of her car and slam the door before her fingers rapidly started to tap against her phone screen.

"Oh, fuck." Tom mumbled, the fight clearly having ended badly as she rushed into her house. Suddenly, his phone buzzed, making him look at it. His eyes widened.

Y/N: I need you Tommy x

"Oh, fuck." He gulped, all suspicions being confirmed in his mind. Either they'd had a bad fight, or they'd broken up. Either way, Tom needed to be there for her right now. He grabbed his phone, his heart racing in anticipation of what he'd walk into Y/N's room to find as he shot up from his chair and rushed out of his room.

Y/N's P.O.V

I sat on my bed, my face buried into my hands as I sobbed into my skin. My entire body still felt like it wasn't there, my heart breaking more by the second as I thought about the situation. As much as I'd admit to having slowly developing feelings for Tom, I had been with Jacob for a year and would have never dreamed of pursuing Tom whilst still with Jacob, and so it hurt that the boy who was meant to love me didn't return that basic respect. Suddenly, my door flew open, making me look up at it as Tom rushed in. He gulped harshly, his face immediately dropping as he saw my red eyes.

"Y/N-."

"Tom." I cried as I immediately stood up and rushed to him. Without hesitation, the boy opened his arms and let me run into them before closing them around me. I sobbed into his t-shirt, my arms tightly holding his neck as one of his arms held my waist and his other hand soothingly stroked my hair.

"Sh, sh, it's okay, I'm here, I have you, you're alright." Tom cooed softly, the boy's gentle heartbeat the only thing grounding me as I just cried in his arms.

"He cheated on me, Tom. I didn't break up with him because of the fight, I broke up with him because I caught him kissing another girl." I admitted with a choke. I immediately felt the boy freeze as he looked down at me.

"He...what?" He gulped. I sobbed and shook my head again, my face burying itself into Tom's neck as I held onto him for dear life. I was terrified that if I let go of my now best friend, he'd disappear forever, just like Jacob had just done.

"Okay, alright, let's sit down, yeah?" He spoke gently as he leant down slightly to swipe my legs from underneath me. The boy picked me up bridal style, my head staying in his neck. He carried me to my bed and gently sat me down before sitting down next to me.

"Talk to me, darling, what happened?" He asked quietly, his eyes flicking over my face worriedly as he cupped my cheek. I choked and shook my head as I kept my eyes glued to my lap.

"I went to his flat to talk the fight over, like I said that I was doing. He didn't answer, but I could hear laughing and shit inside, so I figured that he was just being a dick who was ignoring me. I unlocked the door with the key that I have and there he was, on the sofa, with his tongue down the girl's throat who was sitting next to him." I cried. Tom's face softened again, his eyes filling with sadness as he put his other hand on my knee.

"Oh, Y/N...fuck, I'm so sorry. You didn't deserve how he was treating you before, let alone being cheated on. I'm so fucking sorry." He shook his head as he gently pulled me back into his arms and allowed me to put my head back into his neck.

"The worst bit is that he still tried to save it afterwards, as if my self-respect and self-esteem was low enough to take back a cheating asshole like him. So, I said what I needed to be said, I broke up with him, and I got out of there." I choked.

"You did good, love. I know that it really hurts right now, and that's okay, but you did the right thing. You deserve a million times better than someone who's going to treat you like a booty call and then cheat on you instead of talking. I'm sorry, Y/N. I'm really sorry." He cooed as his hand continued to gently stroke my hair. I bit my lip and continued to cry, though being in Tom's arms was admittedly calming me down immensely. The boy was being nothing but loving and soft with me, his arms wrapped around me delicately as if he was afraid that I'd break if he held me too tightly. But that was what I was loving more by the day about him. He was nothing but gentle. Nothing but kind. Nothing but loving and supportive. I was somewhat sad about the fact that it had taken me so long to realise, but at least I saw it now. Now, Tom and I could move forward as friends, and maybe even more one day. I sniffed and positioned my head against his neck to look up at him, making him give me a small smile as he continued to gently rock me in his arms.

"You okay, darling? I'm so sorry that this happened." He nodded, his gaze flicking between my lips and my eyes as he raised his hand to gently move a strand of my hair out of my face. The entire exchange, everything from the looks to the kind gesture made my heart jump, but now didn't feel like the right time to do anything about that. I couldn't do something drastic like kiss him just after having broken up with my boyfriend, especially as I still didn't know for certain if he felt like that about me.

"Yeah. I'm okay. But I just want to stay like this for a bit. I'm not ready to let go yet." I admitted quietly as I raised my hand and curled it around Tom's neck to pull him closer.

"Good, love. Because neither am I." He confessed back, making me give him a small smile as my eyes fluttered shut and he pressed his lips to my head. He continued to gently rock me on his lap, Tom now being almost as far as he could be from still just being the boy next door.
