Stood up (Peter Parker)
Requested by Abigailstylinson91: Y/N keeps being stood up by Peter, but since she knows that he's Spider-Man, she accepts it. Despite this, MJ confronts Peter about it and makes him feel really bad about how many dates he's missed.
I stood by the fountain in the park, my hands rubbing together to keep warm as I waited in the spot that Peter and I always met up at for our dates. The issue was that I had already been waiting for two and a half hours, making my boyfriend of two years very late. I sighed and looked at my phone, still zero calls or texts from him to explain why he was late. Well, I knew why he was late, which was annoyingly why I couldn't be pissed at him for standing me up yet again. And that was because he was Spider-Man. Peter and I had been dating for two years now, our relationship having started when my best friend had asked me out on a date with a stuttering voice and nervous eyes. I had known about him being Spider-Man for a while at that point and so was prepared for our relationship to not be your standard one, given that one of us was a superhero. What I hadn't been prepared for, however, was being constantly stood up and forgotten about on dates. Tonight was the perfect example, this being the fourth date in a row that Peter had absolutely sworn on our relationship to be on time for, but then had left me out in the cold regardless. I knew that it was wrong for me to get mad at him considering that he was saving and helping people, but part of me couldn't help it. I sighed and unlocked my phone before clicking on his number. It went straight to voicemail, which was what I had expected, but I sighed anyway as the beep that signified the start of the voicemail recording filled the call.
"Hey, Pete, it's me. Um, it's been almost three hours, a-and that's fine, but I'm going to get home, okay? We'll try again tomorrow. I love you, be safe." I nodded before hanging up. I sighed and bit my lip as I started to walk towards the entrance to the park, tears pricking my eyes as I desperately tried to not get upset over my boyfriend once again standing me up. Even if he didn't mean to.
Peter's P.O.V
"I don't think that that's your purse, bro, colour is wrong for your eyes!" Peter sassed loudly, the boy swinging after the thug who was running away with the woman's bag who he had just snatched. Peter got in front of him and dropped down into the alleyway, making the thug scramble to stop before they collided.
"Now, are we going to do this the easy way, or the way that ends with you stuck to the wall, waiting for the cops?" Peter teased as he put his hands on his hips.
"Fuck you, Spider-Man." He spat before turning and starting to run back the other way.
"God. I'm sorry that it had to be this way, man. I really am." Peter sighed and shook his head before raising his wrist.
"Karen, web grenade." He demanded. The clump of web shot out from his wrist and landed on the man's back, making him cry out as it exploded and launched him against the wall before sticking him to it.
"And I'll take that, thank you very much." Peter nodded, the thug groaning and trying to get free as Peter gently plucked the bag from his hands before sauntering out of the alleyway. He looked down the street, his eyes landing on the woman whose bag it was as he walked towards her.
"Ma'am, here you go." He spoke as he gave it back to her.
"Oh my god, thank you, Spider-Man! Thank you so much, you're such a hero!" She exclaimed as she tightly hugged him.
"It's alright, ma'am, all part of the job." He chuckled awkwardly as he returned the hug.
"Peter, you have a new voicemail from Y/N." Karen spoke in his ear. His eyes widened underneath the mask.
"Shit-u-um, ma'am, I have to go, stay safe." He nodded before quickly letting her go and firing a web at the nearest building before launching himself towards it. As soon as his feet made contact with the roof, he pulled his mask off and grabbed his phone from his utensils belt.
"Fuck." He mumbled to himself as he saw that he was almost three hours late for his date with Y/N, which was surely what the voicemail would be about. He clicked on the message before putting his phone to his ear.
"Hey, Pete, it's me. Um, it's been almost three hours, a-and that's fine, but I'm going to get home, okay? We'll try again tomorrow. I love you, be safe." Her soft voice spoke before the message ended.
"Well done, asshole." Peter mumbled to himself, a sigh leaving his lips as he clicked his phone off again. He sighed again and looked over the Queens skyline, his mind already knowing that he'd have to make this up to Y/N. After all, whilst she had known who he was before he'd asked her out, she definitely hadn't signed up for him missing four dates in a row, and it honestly made Peter feel awful. He knew that she understood why he missed dates, but that didn't make it any easier. He put his mask back on and stood up, figuring that late was better than never to start apologising to Y/N as he jumped off of the roof and started to swing himself to her apartment.
Y/N's P.O.V
"I'm serious, Y/N, she was the cutest girl that I've ever seen, I'm so glad that I got her number." MJ chuckled, making me smile and shake my head as I lay in bed on the phone to her.
"When you two get married, I'm being your maid of honour, I'm telling you now." I teased.
"Ha, you're funny. Anyway, enough about lesbians meeting in a coffee shop, how was your date with Pete?" She asked. My smile dipped, a sigh leaving my lips as I already knew how she'd react.
"U-um..."
"Girl...tell me that you're not about to tell me that he stood you up, AGAIN!" She exclaimed.
"MJ, you know that he's Spider-Man, what kind of a girlfriend would I be if I got mad at him for standing me up in order to help people?" I sighed.
"I love you, but you're being a very pushover girlfriend, whilst he's being a really shitty boyfriend. Look, I know that he has commitments, but you're one of those commitments. If he was sensible, he'd go on patrol for a couple of hours and then would go on a date with you! We get out of school at three, the boy has time for both!" She insisted. I gulped and bit my lip, tears pricking my eyes at her words.
"I can't do anything, MJ. I can't say anything to him because then I'm stopping him from saving lives. But then, if I don't say anything to him, I continue being silently unhappy that he keeps standing me up. No, no, I can't say anything." I choked and shook my head.
"Okay, but I can say something to him." She replied. My eyes widened.
"No, no, MJ, do not say anything, please, I'm begging you, he'll only feel awful about standing me up." I gulped.
"Good, Y/N, he should feel awful! This is, what, the fourth night in a row that you've called me up in tears and upset. I'm perfectly happy to be there for you, but when something needs to be said, you should say it." She responded. I sighed and bit my lip as I thought about what she was saying. Because maybe she was right. I loved Peter, and I knew why he was standing me up, but it was only hurting me more and more every date that he missed simply because he lost track of time on his patrol. Maybe it was time to say something. I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard a gentle tapping on my window. I looked up at it, my eyes widening as Peter was crouched there.
"Shit, MJ, I have to go, Pete's here, don't say anything to him." I gulped as I sat up.
"Fuck, fine, but you should, babe. Catch you later." She spoke.
"See you." I sighed before hanging up. I went to my window and opened it, Peter's mask shifting to tell me that he was smiling at me as I slid the window open.
"Hey, baby. I'm so sorry." He gulped, his hand pulling his mask off of his head to reveal his messy hair and slightly bruised face as he jumped into my room.
"It's okay, it's fine, I understand." I lied with a chuckle as he curled his arms around my waist, and I hooked mine over his shoulders.
"It's not fine, though, angel, that's four dates in a row. I'm really sorry, I lost track of time again." He sighed.
"Honestly, Peter, I'm just glad that you're okay. I always get more worried about how hurt you are over you missing dates. It's okay. I promise. You're alive and alright, and that's all that I care about." I reassured. He sighed again and gave me a small smile.
"You're too good to me, baby." He nodded before leaning and gently kissing me. I returned it, my eyes fluttering shut and my hands raising to hold his face as he gripped my waist. Whilst yes, it was upsetting to have been stood up by Peter so much, it was also always a relief to have him back in my arms again. And that was partly why I wouldn't say anything to him about my upset.
"I love you, babe." He mumbled as he broke the kiss and nuzzled his face into my hair.
"I love you too, Pete." I returned quietly, though tears still pricked my eyes at the inevitable hurt feelings that came with Peter consistently standing me up. He could never know that, though.
Peter's P.O.V
Peter stood at his locker, his hands absentmindedly shoving his books and stuff that he didn't need for first period into the box as he waited for Y/N to come and find him. He looked to his side, his eyebrows furrowing as MJ rushed towards him. Looking very pissed off.
"Hey, MJ-."
"Don't 'Hey, MJ' me, you're a fucking asshole, Peter." She nodded. His eyes widened.
"What the fuck?! What have I done?!" He exclaimed.
"You really have no idea how upset she is, do you? You really are that oblivious to your own girlfriend's feelings." She scoffed. Peter sighed in relief, his eyes rolling at his best friend as he continued to shove stuff into his locker.
"You're talking about me standing Y/N up again. It's okay, MJ, I went by hers last night, we talked it out, she's okay." He shrugged.
"Yeah, that's what she wants you to think." She nodded. Peter's eyebrows furrowed and he looked at her, his heart jumping in his chest at what she was implying.
"What?" He gulped. MJ sighed and shook her head at him.
"She made me promise not to say anything, but I have to, it's enough. She's dying inside right now, Peter. She hates to show you it because she knows why you stand her up, but yesterday was the fourth night in a row, and that's only from the last week. You're really letting her down, and she's getting really upset over it, she just doesn't tell you that since she doesn't want to be the asshole girlfriend who stops her superhero boyfriend from saving people." She nodded.
"Okay, but she wouldn't be that-."
"Try telling her that." MJ cut him off. Peter gulped and looked at her, the worst feelings of anxiety starting to fill him at the idea that maybe, MJ was right. Maybe, Y/N was a lot more upset than she was letting on to Peter, all to protect his feelings and not make him feel guilty for standing her up. God, he really didn't deserve that girl.
"Shit...I've really fucked up, haven't I?" He gulped.
"And finally, the penny drops." She nodded, making him groan and squeeze his eyes shut.
"Okay, so what do I do? How do I make it up to her? I have to make it up to her, MJ." He gulped as the panic started to set in.
"Fuck you, Pete, I helped you realise your mistake, it's up to you to pull off the romantic gesture, that's not my job." She scoffed, making him groan and roll his eyes at her as he started to think. But then, the perfect idea hit him. His eyes widened, his mouth falling open as he looked at her.
"Okay, that's fair, but I do need your help setting it up." He nodded. She sighed.
"Yes, I can do that, I suppose." She gave in, making him smile and start to tell her the plan.
Y/N's P.O.V
"Seriously, it's a good movie, we should put it on. After your patrol, of course." I chuckled, Peter and I walking along the hallway to his apartment hand in hand as we neared his door. After sixth period, Peter had come up to me and said that he had a surprise for me, one that was in his apartment. I had no idea what it was, but I was definitely intrigued to see what he had planned.
"Actually, babe, that's the surprise. I'm not going on patrol today." He shook his head as we stopped at his door, and he turned to face me. My eyes widened slightly.
"Pete, you have to, people need you-."
"So do you, angel. The people of Queens have had me for every night this week. Tonight, it's your turn." He nodded, making me smile and bite my lip as he unlocked his front door and let us in. But as soon as I saw his apartment, my heart almost stopped. My eyes widened, a gasp leaving my lips as I walked in to see the living room and kitchen gently glowing with the soft light of a dozen candles, rose petals sprinkled on the white tablecloth that coated the table. Two plates full of food were set up at the seats, another candle gently fluttering away in between them.
"Peter." I whispered, making my boyfriend smile, and gently put his hand on my lower back as we walked through to the kitchen. I bit my lip and turned to face him.
"I love it, Pete, it's amazing, but you didn't have to do all of this for me." I chuckled and shook my head.
"Of course I did, angel. Look, I know that you've been lying to me about how much me standing you up has impacted you. I know that it upset you way more than you let on, and that's okay, I completely get it. This is my way of making it up to you, and it's the first dinner of many. From now on, I'm going to really try to not leave you hanging as much. I'll end my patrols an hour early just to make sure that I get there on time, I'll set alarms so that I don't lose track of time. I'm going to be better." He promised as he curled his arms around my waist. I sighed and shook my head at the fact that it was clear that MJ had talked to him, but I had to admit that I was grateful for that right now. After all, she'd said exactly what I couldn't. I bit my lip and looked back up at him.
"Honestly, Pete, you didn't need to make it up to me. But I really appreciate the fact that you did, and I love you for it. I love you." I nodded.
"I love you too, baby." He gave me a small smile before leaning down and gently kissing me. I returned it, my eyes fluttering shut and my hands raising to hold his face as we kissed. I broke it and touched our foreheads as I looked at him.
"Come on. Let's eat, the food looks amazing." I smiled, making him chuckle and nod as I moved out of his arms but took his hand instead to pull him to the table.
"Not as amazing as you look, angel." He flirted, making me smile and playfully roll my eyes as we sat down and started to enjoy each other's company and the food.
