Sick child (Tom Holland)

Requested by Thatwhorewhowrites: Y/N and Tom have a baby who gets sick. Y/N gets really worried and so Tom comforts her.

My eyes shot open, the sound of crying through the baby monitor waking my body up instantly.

"Jesus." My husband, Tom, groaned as he also woke up, though his squeezed shut eyes told me that he had also been woken abruptly by the sound of our daughter crying so suddenly. I looked at my alarm clock, my eyebrows furrowing as the time read two-fifteen am. That was concerning. Our baby girl, Evie, was only two months old, but already we knew what times she'd wake up in the night for changing, feeding or just attention, and she'd never woken up at any time close to this before.

"What the fuck?" I mumbled as I threw the covers back and stood up from the bed.

"Darling, she probably just needs changing." Tom sighed as he rolled back over and closed his eyes.

"I guess that I'll do it, then." I scoffed.

"Love you." He called after me, making me sigh and shake my head as I headed along to her nursery. I headed in, cries and whimpers leaving Evie's lips as I got to her crib.

"Hey, hey, sh, it's okay, mummy's here." I cooed softly as I leant down to gently stroke her cheek like I normally did to calm her down. But as soon as my finger made contact with her skin, I knew that something was wrong. My eyebrows furrowed, my heart starting to beat more harshly with anxiety as I put the back of my hand to her forehead.

"Tommy." I called out as I felt the uncomfortable heat on my skin.

"What's up, love?" Tom yawned as he wandered into the room.

"Feel her forehead." I mumbled. His eyebrows also furrowed, a worried look quickly spreading to his face as he rushed to me. He put his hand against her head, his eyes widening slightly.

"Oh, fuck. She has a fever." He sighed.

"I was dreading this, first baby Holland fever." I gulped as he gently put his hands around her and started to pick her up.

"Call one-one-one or something, see what they have to say about it. I'll see if she'll eat anything." He nodded, making me gulp again and return the nod as he gently lay her against his shoulder.

"Come on, my love, let's see if you'll eat anything." He mumbled to her, making her whimper and fuss against her dad's shoulder as he left the room with her.

"Yeah, will do, thanks a lot." I sighed to the doctor before hanging up the phone and wandering back into the kitchen. I walked in to see Evie lying in Tom's arms, shrieks and cries leaving her lips as he bobbed her up and down and desperately tried to get the bottle into her mouth.

"Come on, sweetheart, work with daddy, please." he groaned as she continued to kick and punch out with her small limbs.

"No luck?" I asked, making Tom look up at me.

"None. I've been trying since you got on the phone. She hasn't even had a drop of milk, she really doesn't want it." He shook his head.

"Tommy, I think that we need to take her to the hospital." I gulped, my eyes wavering as tears pricked them. He looked at me.

"Is that what the doctor said?" He asked.

"She said that we should wait until morning and see if the fever breaks, but she also said to bring her in immediately if she wasn't eating." I choked. Tom sighed and looked down at Evie, our baby girl still crying and kicking out her limbs as she made it clear how unhappy she was.

"I think that we should wait until morning to see if the fever does break, then. She's clearly crying because she doesn't feel well, not because she's hungry, so she won't starve in a few hours. It's two-forty-five now, let's wait until seven and if the fever hasn't broken, we'll take her to A&E." He nodded. I gulped and returned it, my heart numb at the sound of our little girl so upset and unwell. The one thing that I'd always dreaded about becoming a mother was when my baby would get sick for the first time. You heard so many horror stories about babies just stopping breathing in their sleep, or getting random fevers that they couldn't recover from. I'd had one of the easiest pregnancies ever and so something like this was bound to happen eventually. Didn't make it any easier, though.

"Yeah, okay, sounds sensible. I guess that we better put her back and try to get some sleep, especially if we're going to spend tomorrow in the emergency room." I gulped harshly.

"Hey, love, she's going to be okay. We may wake up to find that her fever is gone, and if not, we'll take her to the hospital, and they'll sort her out. She'll be alright." Tom reassured. I nodded and gave him a forced smile, making him sigh and gently kiss my head before heading to Evie's nursery to put her back to bed.

I sat in the rocking chair by Evie's crib, tears rolling down my face as I gently rocked whilst keeping a close eye on her. She had fallen asleep an hour or so ago, but I was still painfully aware of the fact that the fever hadn't broken, and so I wouldn't take my eyes off of her until the morning.

"What are you doing up?" I looked to the doorway, Tom's eyes softening as he saw me crying.

"Aw, sweetheart." He sighed as he walked into the room.

"I know, I know. But I can't help but worry." I choked as I stood up. Tom sat down on the rocking chair, and I sat back down on his lap, his arms wrapping around my waist and holding me on his lap as I curled into his body.

"I know, love, it's scary. Everyone warned us that her getting sick for the first time would be the scariest moment as parents so far. But she's going to be okay. She's young, she can fight this." He mumbled into my hair, his feet gently rocking us on the chair as we both stared at our daughter.

"Is she too young, though? Too young to fight it by herself?" I whispered.

"I'm sure that she's not, darling. Babies get sick all of the time, and they recover all of the time. She's going to be no different." He reassured, his hand gently stroking through my hair as he pressed his lips to my head. I sighed and bit my lip.

"I'm sorry for being so paranoid and silly, Tommy." I mumbled.

"Don't say that, love, you're not being paranoid or silly. You're a new mum and it's the first time that she's unwell, of course you're worried. For the record, I'm worried too, I'm just better at hiding it." He teased gently, making me chuckle and shake my head as I looked up at him.

"Asshole." I nodded, making him smirk and gently peck my lips before we both looked back down at Evie.

My eyes fluttered open, yawns and groans leaving my lips as I slowly woke up. My eyebrows furrowed, confusion filling my brain as I wasn't lying down in mine and Tom's bed. In fact, I wasn't even lying down. Instead, I seemed to be cuddled into Tom's lap on the rocking chair whilst he slept underneath me. My eyes widened as I remembered why we had fallen asleep here. I looked at the crib.

"Evie." I gulped as I quickly stood from Tom's lap, also waking him up in the process. His eyes widened.

"Shit, we fell asleep, is she okay?" He mumbled. I gulped and bit my lip, my heart pounding in my chest as I put the back of my hand to her forehead. I breathed a sigh of relief as my eyes fluttered shut.

"Oh, thank god. The fever broke, she's at a normal temperature again." I stated.

"Oh, thank fuck." Tom sighed in relief as he relaxed back into the chair.

"Grab her bottle, Tommy, see if she'll eat something." I nodded as I gently picked her up and lay her down in my arms, quiet gurgles leaving her lips as I did.

"Good idea." he spoke as he shot up from the chair and out of the room. I bit my lip, the anxiety finally leaving my body as I sat down with her cradled in my arms.

"You had mummy and daddy very worried, you know, love." I mumbled as I gently stroked her cheek with my finger, making her gurgle and give me a tired smile as her eyes fought to stay open.

"Here we go." Tom nodded as he rushed back into the room with the bottle.

"Moment of truth. If she can eat, she's okay." I gulped, making Tom return it as I lowered the bottle to her lips. My eyes widened, both of us sighing in relief as she latched onto the bottle with no hesitation and started to drink the milk.

"Thank god, she's okay." He puffed out as he crouched down beside the chair and gently stroked Evie's hair.

"I don't think that I've ever been so relieved in my life." I chuckled nervously, making Tom smile and lean down to kiss her head as we both finally relaxed in the fact that our baby girl was going to be okay.
