Austin and I lay on his bed, my head and hand on his chest, and his arm curled around my waist as we relaxed and watched TV. Austin and I had been dating for a year now, relaxed dates like this being what we loved doing most together. I sighed out, a small smile curling onto my lips as I felt Austin's lips press to my head, making me cuddle more into his chest. Suddenly, I felt my right hand start to get slightly hotter. What was weird about that was the fact that it was the only part of my body that was getting hotter. I looked down at the limb and my eyes widened at what I saw.
"What the fuck?" I scoffed, my heart starting to race as my hand started to...glow. I sat up and raised my hand, making Austin's eyes also widen as he saw what was happening.
"Babe, what the hell?!" He exclaimed as he scrambled off of the bed and away from me.
"I-I don't know, I have no idea what's happening right now." I gulped and shook my head, my heart already racing in fear as I stared at my hand that was glowing more by the second. This had never happened to me before, and to say that I was currently freaking the fuck out and was terrified out of my wits was an understatement. Austin's reaction also didn't help, but I was trying not to focus on that over the fact that my motherfucking hand was glowing.
"Babe-make it stop!" Austin shouted, making me look at him with wide eyes.
"If I knew how to make it stop, do you really think that I'd be sat here with a fucking GLOWING hand?!" I scoffed loudly.
"Just whatever it is, stop it!" He shouted as I stood from the bed and looked down at my hands, the other one now starting to glow too.
"Austin, stop it! I don't know what's happening, I'm scared, and you demanding that I stop it when I don't know what it is doesn't help!" I yelled before raising my hands in exacerbation. That was when shit really hit the fan. As soon as I extended my right hand to point at the door, red energy shot out of it. My eyes widened, a scream leaving my lips as Austin and I jumped back in shock.
"WHAT THE FUCK?!" He yelled. I shook my head and looked at the hole that I'd created with wide eyes, my heart pounding harshly and my mind racing with questions as I tried to figure out what the fuck to do. What the fuck to do with this thing...that I had to admit was kind of cool.
"Did you see that, Austin?! That was fucking awesome!" I laughed, making him look at me with wide eyes.
"Awesome?! Y/N, you could have KILLED ME! This isn't awesome, this is fucking weird, you need to get help or something, you're sick." He scoffed and shook his head. My smile dipped, his words cutting fucking deep as my heart dropped.
"It's weird, sure, but a good weird, and it definitely doesn't make me sick." I stated.
"Whatever the fuck it is, you can figure it out without me." He nodded as he grabbed his jacket. My eyes widened, tears starting to prick them as he opened my door and rushed out of my room.
"Austin, wait, what?!" I scoffed as I rushed out after him. He groaned as he turned to face me.
"I signed up to date a hot and smart girl, Y/N. I didn't sign up to date some freak who could kill me with her bare hands, literally, if she wanted to." He shook his head. My eyes wavered at his words, a choke leaving my lips as the tears started to leave my eyes. If Austin being about to break up with me wasn't bad enough, calling me a freak and getting so pissed off at me for not being able to turn whatever the fuck this was off definitely was enough to tip me over the edge.
"We've been together for a year, we love each other and this is enough to make you quit on us?! I know that it's weird, you're freaked out, just think about how much I'M freaking out! But you love me, you're meant to help me through this, not run away from it!" I cried and shook my head.
"You have fucking glowing hands, Y/N! Damn right that's enough to make me quit!" He shouted back. I choked and bit my lip, my heart breaking into a million pieces as tears rolled down my face.
"Get out. Just fucking get out." I whispered and shook my head.
"I won't be coming back. Goodbye, Y/N." He mumbled before opening my front door and rushing out. I choked and shook my head, my entire body starting to feel numb as I collapsed against the wall and slid down it. I looked down at my hands, the skin still glowing as they shook with anger and sadness. Anger that this had been all that it took to make Austin leave me, but also sadness at the fact that he had left. I was alone. I raised my hands to my head, the slight heat of them warming my skin up as I continued to sob and try to come to terms with everything that I had discovered today. And everything that I had lost, too.
~Two days later~
Peter's P.O.V
"You called for me, Mr Stark?" Peter stated as he walked into the missions' room of the Stark Tower to see Tony, Nat and Steve already there.
"Yeah, kid, I did. You're coming to our next recruitment." Tony stated. Peter's eyebrows furrowed.
"But...that's not my job, I don't recruit people." He chuckled nervously as he shook his head, his mind already full of questions as to why they were bringing him along to this one when they never had before.
"You're right, normally you don't. But we think that you could be useful on this one." Steve nodded, Nat and Tony returning it as Tony clicked a button on the keyboard of the computers. Peter's eyes widened as the screens filled with photos of a simply breath-taking girl, all from either CCTV, social media or taken secretly. Peter gulped harshly, the girl's smile making his heart do somersaults in his chest at how bright and kind it was. He felt like he knew her already, and he hadn't even met her yet.
"Woah." Peter breathed.
"Alright, kid, make sure that you're thinking with the head that has the brain in it, not the head in between your legs." Tony teased, making Peter roll his eyes but still blush harshly at his mentor's teasing as he walked towards the screens.
"Who is she and why am I helping to recruit her?" He asked.
"Her name is Y/N Y/L/N and she only came up onto our radar yesterday. Some guy has been on social media running his mouth about how his now ex-girlfriend's hands started glowing, and how he didn't know what the fuck that it was, but he left because of it. So now, she's probably scared and alone, having to deal with the fact that she now suddenly has powers, by herself. You're coming along because not only are you guys the same age, but you know what it's like to suddenly have powers that you don't know what to do with. That's scary, so she's going to need someone who genuinely knows what it's like to be there for her. Hence why you're going too. Understand?" Tony checked.
"Definitely, Mr Stark." Peter nodded.
"Good. We don't want to freak her out with our suits, so don't suit up, but be ready to go in ten minutes." He ordered.
"Will do." Peter returned before turning and leaving the room. As soon as he left, he couldn't help but smile to himself. Not only would this absolutely beautiful girl hopefully be going to join the team, but Peter would be part of getting her there. And if he was honest, he couldn't wait.
Y/N's P.O.V
I sat on my sofa, my eyes still on my hands like they had been for the last two days. I felt completely numb, my face both wet and dry from old and new tears as my gaze flicked over the still glowing skin of my hands. They hadn't stopped glowing since they had started two days ago, and I hadn't stopped crying since Austin had left my house either. I was heartbroken, but with every hour that went by, more worry crept in about the fact that my hands were still glowing. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know when it would stop, and it was making me feel sicker by the moment. I didn't know what to do, and that was scaring the shit out of me. Suddenly, my doorbell rang, making me snap out of my thoughts. I gulped harshly, my heart jumping in fear at whoever it was seeing my hands. And so, I just wouldn't answer it. I bit my lip harshly and looked ahead again. My doorbell rang again. My eyebrows furrowed as I looked back at the surface. Who the fuck was at my door, and why were they so eager to see me?
"We know that you're home, Y/N. And trust me, you're going to want to open your door." My eyes widened, my breath hitching in my throat as I heard the voice. The voice that I'd heard countless times on the news, doing press conferences and talking about his world-renowned company...but never did I think that I'd hear his voice in person. I gulped harshly as I looked at the door. Before I knew what was happening, I felt myself stand up, my body taking control as I slowly but surely walked to the door. I bit my lip, my heartbeat so loud that I could hear it in my ears as my shaky hand raised to take the door handle before pushing down. And with that...the door was open. My eyes widened, my mouth falling open at the sight of Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff and Steve Rogers standing on my doorstep. And then there was him. Peter Parker. My eyes wavered, butterflies exploding in my stomach at the sight of the extremely attractive boy. Again, I'd seen the guy who I knew to be Spider-Man on the news and in the papers, but I'd never believed that I'd be lucky enough to actually meet him. I couldn't believe it, I couldn't believe that me, a normal nobody girl from Queens, was face-to-face with the doe-eyed and curly haired god of a boy who was Peter Parker.
"I'm Tony Stark-."
"I know who you are." I cut him off as I snapped back to look between the four Avengers. Tony raised his eyebrow, Peter gulping and Nat and Steve chuckling to each other at my reaction.
"I'm guessing that none of us need an introduction, then?" Tony checked. I gulped and shook my head as I crossed my arms protectively over my chest.
"No. You don't. What I do need to know, though, is what you're doing here." I nodded.
"Sorry, have you looked at your hands recently?" Steve scoffed. I gulped and looked down at them again, the skin not having stopped glowing since it first started two days ago.
"I, um...I'm sick." I lied as I looked back up at them.
"You're not sick. You're powerful. And we can help." Peter finally spoke up with a nod. My heart jumped harshly in my chest at his words, my eyes wavering at the sentiment as the boy looked straight into them.
"Right, Mr Stark? We can help?" Peter checked, the boy keeping my gaze as he asked the question.
"Yeah, kid. We can help." Tony nodded. I returned it and bit my lip, my heart starting to slow down slightly at the idea of this hell ending. That I wouldn't have to spend the rest of my days with gloves on, with my hands shoved into my coat pockets, not knowing if I'd accidentally kill a loved one because I couldn't control this new thing. Instead, I'd spend the rest of my days with other people like me, who could help me. I'd spend the rest of my days with Peter. And that was the best outcome that I could think of already.
"So, kid. Are you in?" Tony asked. I bit my lip and looked at Peter, the boy giving me a subtle but still there wink as his lips curled into a small smile.
"Yeah. I'm in."
