Guitar skills (Tom Holland)
Requested by miagherkin: Can you do a story with anything to do with Tom learning guitar?
I sat on the sofa in mine and Tom's living room, Tessa's head on my lap as we just relaxed and watched TV as we waited for Tom to get home. As if on cue, I heard the front door open.
"Darling, look what I got!" I heard him call out. My eyebrows furrowed as Tessa immediately jumped up and ran out of the room to greet her dad. I better go and see what he's brought home, I thought to myself as I stood up too and followed her out. I walked out, my eyes widening slightly at what I saw.
"Oh my god." I chuckled and shook my head, a wide smile spread across my boyfriend's face as he held up the guitar.
"I know, right?! Isn't it nice?! First addition, too!" He exclaimed excitedly, making me chuckle again at how much he was beaming as a result of the musical instrument.
"It is, but...why?" I scoffed.
"Why not, love? I've always wanted to learn how to play an instrument, and I already know a little bit of guitar. Plus it's the perfect instrument to learn both when I'm working, and when I'm off too. It's awesome. Do you not like it?" He shrugged as he looked at it.
"It's not that I don't like it, it's just a very random thing for you to have brought back on a Monday morning after you've been on set all day. It's nice, though, it's cute." I chuckled and nodded.
"I'm glad that you think so, sweetheart. Because it's going to be getting a lot of use from now on, so look forward to that." He smiled as he passed me and started to head into the living room.
"Gee, I can't wait." I returned sarcastically, making him smirk and wink at me as I followed him into the living room.
My eyes fluttered open, my eyebrows furrowing as I was pulled out of sleep. Confusion as to what had woken me up filled my brain as I propped my body up onto my elbows and looked around. I looked at the alarm clock on my bedside table, a quiet groan leaving my lips as the neon numbers two-fifteen a.m. blinked back at me. But I still wasn't sure why I had been woken up. Then, I started to hear it. The quiet, and yet still there, strumming of guitar strings. Fucking guitar strings. I looked to my side and rolled my eyes as surely enough, Tom's side of the bed was empty, the covers where my boyfriend should have been instead being messy and unoccupied.
"Fucking joking me." I mumbled to myself as I rolled over and stood from our bed before quietly padding out of the room. I walked down the stairs and into our living room, Tom's naked back facing me as my boyfriend sat on the sofa and gently played his new guitar.
"That guitar is going to get smashed over your head if you don't stop playing right now." I teased, alerting the boy to my presence as he looked over the back of the sofa. His lips curled into a small smile as he chuckled.
"Sorry, love, didn't mean to wake you up. I was trying to be quiet, I promise." He smiled sheepishly.
"Well, it didn't work. You're lucky that I love you so much." I teased, making his smile widen as I walked around the sofa and sat down next to him so that my body was facing him.
"That I am. I just can't get this one hook of the song, though. The plucking is really intricate, and I can't seem to move my fingers quickly enough to perfect it." He sighed and shook his head.
"Funny, you're normally very good with moving your fingers quickly enough." I flirted.
"Very funny." He smirked as he rolled his eyes playfully at me.
"No, I'm joking, I'm joking. What are you even doing up this early, though? It's the middle of the night." I chuckled.
"Couldn't sleep, so figured that I'd try learning the plucking again. That worked well, huh." He returned my chuckle and shook his head.
"How about you play it for me? A fresh set of ears might help." I suggested as I scooted closer to him and curled my arms around his waist before resting my cheek against his shoulder.
"Yeah, alright. Don't laugh at me." He smiled.
"I'm not going to laugh at you." I chuckled and shook my head, making his smile widen as he kissed my head before turning back to his guitar. He held the neck of it with his left hand before lowering his right hand to the strings. He gently started to pluck them, soft music beginning to play immediately from the instrument. I smiled and bit my lip as I kept my cheek pressed to his naked shoulder, the sounds that my boyfriend was creating being beautiful. It was literal music to my ears.
"Okay, so this is the bit that I've been stuck on." He mumbled, making me nod as his fingers started to dance more by the second. He groaned quietly as his fingers halted, the digits obviously plucking the wrong string as he stalled.
"Fucks' sake. See what I mean? It's always the same bit that I get stuck on, too." He sighed and shook his head.
"Yeah, I see what the problem is. But you'll get it eventually, Tommy, you always do. Just maybe not at half two in the morning." I chuckled and bit my lip.
"Yeah, maybe when I've had all of two hours of sleep isn't the best time to try and master the hardest plucking that I've done so far." He smiled sheepishly in agreement.
"Come back to bed, Tommy. Go back to it in the morning, yeah?" I tried to encourage him as I stood up and gently took his hand as I did to pull him up.
"Yeah, alright. Tomorrow, I'll get it." He sighed, making me give him a small smile as he put the guitar down before standing from the sofa. I led him out of the living room, a giggle leaving my lips as he wrapped his arms around my waist from behind to hug me as we walked back to bed.
"Darling!" "Love, wake up!"
"I did it, sweetheart, I fucking did it!"
"What?" I mumbled, Tom's voice startling me awake and pulling me abruptly out of sleep as my eyes shot open. I looked groggily at the open doorway to our bedroom, sleep still caked in my eyes and my eyebrows furrowing as Tom ran in holding his guitar up.
"I did it, love! I did it, I fucking got the plucking right!" He exclaimed excitedly. My eyes widened, my brain finally realising what he was talking about as I jolted up into a sitting position in our bed.
"Show me, show me!" I laughed. He returned it, my boyfriend like a giddy child as he sat down on our bed next to me and put the guitar on his lap. I wrapped my arms around him again and rested my head on his shoulder, my eyes on the guitar as he started to play. Once again, the beautiful sound of the song that he was learning started to flow, Tom's fingers working effortlessly against the strings to play it. My eyes widened as he got to the bit that he'd been struggling with. But instead of stalling and getting frustrated like he had done earlier this morning...he kept playing flawlessly.
"Oh my god, Tommy." I giggled quietly so as to not distract him, making him smile and bite his lip as he continued to play. After a few seconds, he stopped to mark the end of the song.
"Tommy, that was beautiful! You did it, I'm so proud of you!" I laughed, him returning it as I tightly hugged him.
"I fucking hoped so, I've been up since four doing it." He chuckled and shook his head. My eyes widened and I pulled away to look at him.
"You got up again?" I scoffed.
"I didn't mean to, I just couldn't sleep and so again figured that my time was better spent playing the guitar over lying in bed. But, yeah. I finally did it." He smiled and shook his head.
"And it sounds amazing, Tommy." I chuckled, my heart so full of love and happiness at seeing Tom so proud of himself for learning the difficult song.
"Thank you, sweetheart." He smiled, making me return it as he leant in and gently kissed me.
