Discovering myself (Peter Parker)
Requested by MyMischeifisManaged: Y/N discovers that she is asexual, and comes out to her boyfriend, Peter.
I sat in the school library, my eyes scanning over the words that were displayed across my laptop screen as I did research in my free period. But it wasn't research for any of my classes, or upcoming homeworks. It was research into asexuality...for...myself. I bit my lip, my brain anxious of people around me being aware of what I was doing as I clicked onto different websites that talked about asexuality and the spectrum of it. I sighed, butterflies of anxiety filling my stomach as every click, every line, every scroll only confirmed the suspicion that I had started to have a few months ago. And that was that I was asexual.
"Hey, babe." My eyes widened and I slammed my laptop shut as Peter came up to the table. His eyes widened slightly at my unexpected reaction.
"You okay? What were you doing, watching porn?" He chuckled teasingly, making me smile hesitantly as he sat down next to me and curled his arm around my waist.
"N-no, nothing like that. Just don't want you cheating off of me on our next assignment." I smiled to return the teasing. He raised his eyebrows at me.
"Wow, that one cut deep, babe." He chuckled, making me giggle and bite my lip as I cuddled into his side. Peter and I had been dating for a year now, but had been friends since we were kids. The nervous wreck of a sixteen-year-old had asked me out when we were hanging out casually at his apartment one day, I had of course said yes, and had never looked back. I was fully in love with the boy, every second of time that I spent with him only making me happier and fall for more for him. But there was one thing that still after a year was lacking in our relationship, that one thing having started my journey of discovery. And that was that Peter and I had not done anything more than kissing. No matter how many times my poor boyfriend had tried to initiate things, how many times he had kissed my neck and slipped his fingers into my panties, consensually of course, I just hadn't felt anything sexual for him or what we were doing. This lack of sensation had even made me question at times if I even liked Peter in that way, given that I didn't seem to be sexually attracted to him. But I knew that I loved him as more than a friend, and I also hadn't felt anything sexual in the past with others, or when doing something like watching porn. The realisation that not getting turned on wasn't a one-time thing had made me start to question my sexuality, which was when I had started to research asexuality and what it felt like. And, well...it felt exactly like what I felt. Peter didn't know any of this yet, as I hadn't figured out yet how to tell my boyfriend that I was questioning my sexuality, and that it was a sexuality that would likely impact our sex lives. But I knew that I had to tell him eventually. I just had to find a time that felt right, and then pluck up enough courage to actually do it.
"You still good for our movie night tonight? I already have planned what we're watching." Peter smiled, making me snap out of my thoughts as I looked at him.
God, please, not 'Star Wars' again, I beg." I groaned, Peter laughing as I over-dramatically put the back of my hand to my forehead and rested against his body.
"Yes, again. One day, you will love it as much as I love you, angel. I'm sure of it." He chuckled as he kissed my head. I returned the chuckle and shook my head, though my smile dipped slightly and I sighed at the anxiety that came with knowing that I had to tell Peter about my doubts. And I had to tell him soon.
Peter and I sat on his living room sofa, his arm curled around my waist and my body cuddling into his side as we cuddled underneath the blanket with the movie on in front of us. But my attention wasn't really on the movie. I chewed nervously on my lip, the only thought occupying my head being that the weight of keeping my sexuality a secret from Peter was getting heavier by the day, heavier by the second. And soon enough, I feared that it would prove too heavy to keep under wraps. But there was also the fact that I didn't want to keep this a secret from him anymore. At the end of the day, Peter was the love of my life, and I knew that I was his too. Whilst I completely expected and understood if Peter needed to come to terms with the fact that I wasn't sexually attracted to him, and potentially never would be, I knew that ultimately, he would love me regardless as this was a part of me. And so, I wanted to tell him. Even if that was making me shit myself.
"Pete, can we talk for a second?" I gulped as I looked at him.
"Yeah, course, babe." He nodded, his eyes staying on the TV as he spoke. I bit my lip and leant forward to pause the movie, making him look at me.
"Oh, okay, it's that kind of talk." He chuckled somewhat nervously, making me return it as we turned to face each other on the sofa. I took a deep breath, my heart in my throat as I timidly looked at my boyfriend.
"S-so, um...recently-well not recently, over the last few months, but still...I've been questioning things. A lot of things." I started with a gulp. Peter's eyes widened as his mouth fell open.
"Oh my god, are you breaking up with me?" He choked. My eyes widened too.
"God, Peter, no! Fuck, I'm sorry, I can completely understand how it sounded like that, but no, I'm not breaking up with you." I reassured with a shake of my head as I rested my hand on his arm. He breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank fuck, you scared me." He chuckled and shook his head before his eyebrows furrowed.
"Wait, if you're not breaking up with me, what do you need to talk to me about?" He scoffed. I gulped harshly, my heart almost suffocating me as I looked at him.
"O-obviously, we've not done anything past kissing yet, w-which is kind of weird for a pair of seventeen-year-olds who have been dating for a year. But recently, I s-started to think about why that was. And so...I started researching asexuality." I confessed. His eyes widened slightly again, his mouth forming into an 'O' shape as he clearly already took in what I was saying.
"O-oh...so, what, you think that you're asexual? Or on that spectrum, somewhere?" He asked. I nodded and bit my lip.
"Basically, yes. I was trying to figure out why I never felt anything when you tried to initiate stuff, because I knew that it wasn't you. I knew that it wasn't you, because I love you, but I knew that I didn't feel anything sexual for you. So, I started looking into it, and, well...everything points to me being ace." I explained with a nod. Peter returned it and bit his lip.
"Okay, right, I understand. What, um, what does that mean for us? I don't want to sound selfish or anything, but what does that mean?" He asked.
"It's not selfish, Pete, I completely expected you to ask. I guess that it means that we continue not doing anything sexual. I'm not interested in doing anything more than kissing you. A-and that's not because I don't find you attractive or anything, please understand that, I'm just really not interested in that type of thing." I gulped.
"Don't worry, I know. But, okay. Thank you for telling me." He nodded. My eyebrows furrowed, confusion filling my head at the fact that he was so chilled out and seemingly unfazed by this.
"W-what-so, you're okay with it? It doesn't faze you, or bother you?" I scoffed and shook my head. He shrugged and put his hand on my thigh.
"I mean, yeah, of course I'm fine with it. Sure, not having sex with you is kind of a bummer, and isn't something that I was expecting, but I love you, angel. I love you and I care about you, so of course not having sex with you isn't enough to make me want to end things, or not be in a relationship with you. Your sexuality is part of who you are, and I love you for who you are, so it doesn't bother me at all." He reassured. I breathed a sigh of relief and let my eyes flutter shut as I looked down, making Peter chuckle and bite his lip as his hand soothingly massaged my thigh. Deep down I had known that my loving boyfriend would be fine with it, and would accept me for who I was, though of course there was always the fear that something unexpected would happen, that he would react in a way that I hadn't anticipated. So, it meant the world to me that he had in fact accepted me, and that he wasn't planning to leave me for it.
"You have no idea how much that means to me, Pete, genuinely. I wouldn't blame you for breaking up with me over the fact that I don't want to do anything sexual, so it means the world that you still love me for that." I choked and nodded.
"Of course, baby, nothing will ever change that. I love you too much for it to change. Can I kiss you? Is that okay?" He asked with raised eyebrows. I couldn't help but smile, my heart warming at the consideration that he was already showing in light of my confession.
"You can always kiss me, Pete." I nodded, making him laugh and return it as he leant in and gently kissed me. I returned it, my eyes fluttering shut and my hand raising to hold his face as we kissed. He broke it and looked at me.
"I love you, Y/N, for your sexuality and all. It only makes you more lovable in my eyes." He reassured with a shake of his head as his gorgeous chocolate eyes flicked over my face. I bit my lip and returned the glance as I desperately tried not to cry at his overwhelmingly sweet words.
"I love you too, Pete. Your acceptance only makes you more lovable in my eyes." I whispered as I lightly teased him with his own words. He smirked and shook his head, making me giggle as he leant in and gently kissed me again.
