The soul stone *part 3* (Peter Parker)

The ship landed on the surface of Vormir, making me take a deep breath as this was where the soul stone was. The only question was how we got it.

"Okay, you two go and find the stone, I'll stay here and guard the ship." Tony nodded as he looked at Natasha and I. She looked at me.

"You ready, kid?" she asked.

"Let's get Peter back." I nodded. She returned it as we headed down the ramp and off of the ship, me immediately hissing and hugging myself as the sharp winds of the planet whipped around our suit-covered bodies.

"Gee, I wonder where the soul stone is." Natasha mumbled sarcastically as we both looked at the towering stone structure that sat in the distance.

"It's going to be a long walk." I returned, making Natasha scoff and nod as we started to walk.

"Remind me to do more cardio when we get back to Earth." I puffed out, holding my side as we reached the top of the stairs.

"I'm right there with you." She nodded before looking up. Her eyes widened and she immediately whipped her guns out, making me follow her gaze. I quickly raised my hands, my power swirling around my palms as a cloaked figure stood just metres away from us.

"Drop your weapons. They are no use to you here." He spoke in a low voice. I gulped as I looked at Natasha. She stuck her tongue into her cheek, obviously contemplating what to do before looking at me and nodding. I returned it and lowered my hands as she put her guns back into their holsters.

"Where do we find the soul stone?" She asked as we walked towards the figure. He didn't respond, instead, his bony finger came out to point over the edge of the cliff. My eyes widened and I gulped slightly as we slowly walked to the edge and looked over, my stomach twisting at the sheer drop.

"I'm confused." I chuckled nervously as I looked back at the figure.

"You cannot simply take the stone. It requires a sacrifice of another soul." He stated. My eyes wavered, my heart dropping to my feet as I realised what he was saying.

"Nat." I gulped as I looked at the woman. She returned the gulp and looked down.

"Three of us came here. But only two of us will go home." She admitted. I gulped harshly, my heart pounding through my chest.

"Tell Peter that I love him." I nodded before turning to the edge of the cliff. I yelped slightly as Natasha harshly grabbed my bicep, pulling my body back to her.

"Are you fucking crazy?! The whole point of getting the stone was so that you two could live the lives that you were meant to, I didn't come here just for you to sacrifice yourself and for Peter to come back to life and be heartbroken." She scoffed. I looked at her.

"You're not seriously considering doing it instead? Natasha, I can't ask you to do that, no one can-."

"And no one is, kid." She cut me off. I choked and looked at her. She sighed, giving me a small smile as she cupped my face in her hands.

"Look, I see a lot of myself in you. You're a fighter, you're fearless, and you're willing to do anything for the ones that you love. It's no secret that I've had a pretty fucked up life. But you still have a chance. Get it right. Be the redo that I never got." She nodded, gently stroking her hands against my cheeks. I looked at her, tears starting to leave my eyes.

"Nat, don't do this." I choked.

"You love Pete, right? And you want to spend the rest of your life with him?" she asked. I gulped, looking into her eyes as I nodded. She returned it.

"Then there's no other way, kid. It's okay." She reassured, giving me a small and reassuring smile. I choked, biting my lip in an attempt to stop more tears. Natasha looked at me, her own eyes glazing over as she gently pressed her lips to my forehead. I closed my eyes at the gesture, not wanting to believe that she was about to die. But I also couldn't deny that I wanted Peter back. Natasha pulled away, her hands still on my face as she gave me one last smile before letting me go. I gulped, my heart racing as I started to think of a plan. She started to walk to the edge of the cliff, her back now turned to me. Now would be the perfect time. I took a deep breath before starting to sprint towards the edge, and past Natasha.

"NO!" before I knew what was happening, my arm was grabbed again, and I was pulled back harshly. My body collided with the ground, making me groan as I looked up. My eyes widened as Natasha's body started to lean over the edge, telling me that she was a second away from falling. She gave me one last small smile before disappearing past the edge of the cliff.

"NO!"

I stared straight ahead, my body completely numb as Tony led me back into the compound with a hand on my shoulder. After Natasha had fallen off of the cliff, I had woken in what seemed to be a large pool of water, with the soul stone in my hand. Tony had found me in a state of shock and had taken me back to the ship, not a single word being uttered between us since. I gulped, tears still pricking my eyes as we walked into the room that looked into the one that held Peter's body. Everyone looked up as we walked in.

"How did it go? Did you get the stone?" Clint asked. I gulped, looking at the stone in my hands.

"Guys, where's Nat?" Steve asked.

"Cap, don't go there." Tony warned. My eyes wavered, a tear running down my cheek as I looked back up at them, all of their faces now as white as sheets.

"I tried to stop her. I tried to do it instead." I choked. Clint's face dropped as he looked at me. Suddenly, he lunged for me, making me scream as he pinned me to the wall with his hand grasping my neck.

"You let her die so that you could have your little boyfriend back?! What the fuck is wrong with you?!" he yelled.

"Clint, get the fuck off of her, she's just a child!" Steve exclaimed as both him and Tony tried to wrestle Clint off of me.

"Exactly, she's a child, whose stupid little fucking crush got an amazing woman killed!" he shouted.

"Clint, stand down, now!" Tony yelled. Clint stared at me, giving me one last snarl before letting me go. I dropped to the floor as I coughed and spluttered, trying to regain my breath as Clint stormed out.

"You alright, kid?" Steve asked as he offered me his hands. I gulped and nodded, giving him a forced smile as I took his hands and pulled myself up.

"Yeah, just...wasn't quite expecting to be attacked." I choked. Steve sighed and looked at me.

"I just need to know one thing. Did you really try to stop her? Did you try to take her place?" he asked. I looked at him.

"I swear to fucking god, Steve. I made a run for the cliff, she pulled me back and went over instead." I choked. He sighed and nodded, giving me a sympathetic look as he put his hand on my shoulder.

"What do you say that we try and bring Pete back, huh, kid?" Tony asked, putting his hand on my other shoulder. I gulped and nodded, making him give me a small smile as he guided me into the room that held Peter's body on a metal table, Steven staying in the other room. Tears pricked my eyes as I stared at Peter's body, biting my lip as I needed this to work. Not only did I need Peter back, but I couldn't have let Natasha die for no reason. This had to work.

"Alright. Real gentle, we're dealing with something that could kill all of us in a second, understand?" Tony asked as he moved the mechanical robot with a grapple hand towards Peter. The machine nodded before leaning down and picking up the soul stone.

"I suggest that we all take a step back. Cap, you have your shield in there?" Tony yelled as we stared at the machine.

"Ready and waiting." Steven confirmed. Tony nodded before looking at me.

"Light your hands up. Just in case." He instructed. I gulped and nodded before igniting my palms, flickers of red energy now dancing on them. All three of us watched in anticipation as the robot slowly but surely lowered, bringing the deep lilac stone closer and closer to Peter's chest. I gulped, my heart almost thumping out of my chest as the stone made contact with his skin. Immediately, Peter's body lurched up, making me jump back and into Tony's arms as Peter's back arched, forcing his chest to make more contact with the stone. My eyes widened as the glowing from the stone started to rapidly spread through Peter's body as it slowly but surely rose into the air.

"Cap, time to grab that shield!" Tony shouted.

"Way ahead of you!" he replied as he raised the shield from behind the glass and hid behind it.

"You ready for this, kid?" Tony asked, both of our eyes still glued to Peter's body as it rose further into the air and started to brightly radiate the purple colour of the stone.

"I think so." I gulped as I slowly started to raise my hands, making sure that I was poised. As if on cue, Peter's body exploded with light, making me scream as Tony grabbed me and pulled me down into his arms. I raised my hands, energy shooting from them and forming a protective dome over Tony and I as I buried my face into his chest, his hands on my head making it evident that he was trying to protect me. I gulped and peeled one eye open as silence filled the room. I opened both of my eyes and puffed out in relief as the dome covering us still held strong. I looked up at Tony, making him give me a small smile.

"You okay, kid?" he asked. I nodded as I lowered my hands, making the dome break.

"You did good." He nodded, making me give him a small smile as we both stood up and looked at the now-collapsed wall that Steve had been stood behind.

"Steve?" Tony called out. As if on cue, we heard rocks and rubble start to fall as the concrete started to shift, revealing the star on Steve's shield.

"I'm good." He nodded, his voice wheezy and his skin caked with dust as he stood up. I looked back into the room and my eyes widened. I choked and rushed to Peter's body that was now lying on the floor, his back turned to us.

"Please let it have worked, for the love of God, please." I choked, collapsing onto my knees by his body as I pulled on his shoulder and turned him onto his back. I gasped and my eyes widened, as all that seemed to be left of the stone was the soft lilac glow that was coming from within Peter's chest. I gulped, tears pricking my eyes as I pulled his head onto my lap, my hand cupping his cheek.

"Come on, Pete, come on." I whispered, my heart almost breaking through my chest as I could feel his skin getting warmer underneath my hand. My eyes widened and my breath hitched as his eyes slowly peeled open, a cough leaving his lips. I choked, a tear leaving my eye as Peter's eyes flickered around the room before landing on me, the stunning hazel eyes that I thought I'd never see again staring straight at me. His lips curled into a weak smile.

"Y/N." he whispered, his hand slowly raising to cup my cheek. I choked, more tears leaving my eye as I leant into his touch and put my hand over his. He looked at my face, the small smile never leaving his lips as he studied my features.

"I'm back."
