The soul stone *part 2* (Peter Parker)
I sat on the chair that stood next to the table that Peter's body lay on. I looked at the lifeless boy, tears rolling down my face as I gently stroked my hand through his hazel curls. The way that his body had been placed meant that his head was tilted towards me, his face peaceful as he looked like he was just asleep. I squeezed my eyes shut, more tears leaving them as I looked down. I didn't want to live without him, but I guess that I had to.
"Y/N." I looked up and gulped as Tony stood at the doorway to the room.
"Don't make me leave him." I whispered, shaking my head.
"I'm sorry, kid, but I have to. We need to find out what happened." He sighed. I gulped, looking back at Peter before standing up. I leant down and gently pressed a kiss to his cheek before walking towards Tony. My mentor gave me a small smile and put his hand on my shoulder as I passed, leading me out. Despite blaming him and the others for Peter's death, I was too tired and numb to shrug his hand off of me. Tony led me into the operations room, the others looking up at me and gulping as we walked in.
"How are you doing, kiddo?" Steve asked. My eyes wavered and I looked down.
"I think that we should move on." Natasha mumbled, looking between the guys and making them nod as they all looked at me.
"I'm so sorry to put you through this, but we need you to explain what went wrong in the mission and what led to Peter's death." Tony spoke. I let out a shaky breath and nodded as I looked down.
"As soon as we landed, Peter knew that something was wrong." I started.
My red energy propelled me across the sky, Peter's webs getting him to our destination as he swung next to me.
"Your target is down there." FRIDAY spoke into our comms.
"Got it." Peter nodded, looking at me as he swung one last web and landed on the airstrip, one hand on the ground between his legs as he landed. I landed swiftly next to him and looked around.
"Huh. Great welcoming party." I scoffed, looking around at the absence of guards and soldiers.
"That's the thing. They were all meant to be here. Something's not right." Peter shook his head. I looked at him.
"Babe, are you seriously saying that you're not happy that we're not being shot at by twenty bad guys?" I chuckled. He sighed and shook his head again as he continued to look around suspiciously.
"It's not that I'm not happy about it, something just feels-." Suddenly, Peter's head shot up and his eyes widened.
"GET DOWN!" he yelled as he grabbed my waist and pulled me to the ground. Moments later, a missile collided with the ground only metres away from us and exploded, sending us both flying back. I landed harshly against the ground, making me cough and groan as rubble dust filled my lungs.
"Incoming, babe." Peter spoke into comms. I looked up and sighed as an airship flew towards us, men with guns already poised at the open barrier.
"Well, you wanted a welcoming party. Looks like this is it." I nodded as I stood up, Peter doing the same as we poised ourselves for the incoming battle. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again to reveal red orbs that had replaced my previously brown ones.
"May as well help them to land." I nodded as I raised my hands, laces of red energy swirling around my fingertips. My energy spread to the ship, making the men's eyes widen as it wrapped around the plane and started to jerk it. Shouts and yells could be heard from the open barrier as I slammed my arms down, bringing the plane crashing down onto the airstrip. The men rushed out and immediately started shooting at us. I raised my hands again and forced a shield of energy to protect my body as Peter immediately swung towards them and started to knock them out, dodging the spray of bullets as he did. I kept the shield up as I watched half a dozen men run towards me, all hitting my energy with their bullets. At the last minute, I dropped the energy and immediately kicked the first guard in the chest, making him groan as he fell back. I raised my arms and then slammed them back down again, knocking out several more guards as the final one ran at me. He swung his fist out and punched me in the face, making me groan and stumble back as I cupped my nose.
"I don't usually hit girls, but for you, I'll make an exception." He smirked as he drove his fist towards me again. But this time, I caught it. His eyes widened as I looked at him.
"Thanks for that. Sexist prick." I smiled sarcastically before shooting a punch to his neck. His eyes widened and he immediately started choking, giving me the chance to send my knee up and into his face. He groaned and fell back as I raised my hands again. My energy wrapped around his body and raised him, making him groan as I smashed him back into the ground.
"Peter? You good?" I asked into my comms, looking around for my boyfriend.
"Yeah. Just about done here." I turned around and chuckled as he was stood in the middle of a circle of knocked out guards, fighting one final one. He fired a web at the man's head and then pulled down, smashing the guard's head into the concrete and knocking him unconscious. Peter looked at me. "You good?" he asked as he walked to me and put a light hand on my waist.
"Piece of cake." I smiled, making him chuckle and nod as he kissed my head through his mask. Suddenly, he looked up again and his eyes widened.
"Fuck, we've got more incoming." He gulped. My eyes widened and I followed his gaze, swallowing harshly as another airship flew towards us.
"Shit, did you know that they had backup?" I gulped.
"I had no idea. Y/N, we can't take that many guards." Peter shook his head.
"Do I call Tony?" I asked. He gulped and looked at me.
"Yeah, do it. He won't be happy if we risk our lives more than we have to, and we can't handle more guards by ourselves." He nodded. I returned it and held a finger to my comms.
"Tony, this is Y/N, we need backup, there is double the amount of tangoes that we anticipated, we need help-." I was cut off by the ship landing and about forty guards running out. My eyes widened.
"Peter!" I yelled as half ran for me and half ran for him.
"Shit." I gulped, preparing myself for the worst. Suddenly, a loud gunshot rang out, somehow much clearer than the others. I looked up and my eyes widened. My heart stopped, tears immediately pricking my eyes as Peter stood there, eyes wide as he tried to process what had just happened. My eyes flickered down his body, a choke leaving my lips as a fresh bullet hole sat in the middle of his chest. He looked down at it too, a small whimper leaving his lips as he looked back up at me.
"NO!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I raised my arms and then slammed them down, knocking out all of the guards with my energy as I ran towards Peter.
"Come on, Pete, come on, stay with me." I choked as he collapsed to the ground. I gulped and collapsed on my knees next to him, pulling his bleeding body into my arms as the rain slowly started to fall.
I looked down, tears running down my cheeks as I refused to look at any of the other Avengers.
"There were too many of them. It was as simple as that. We both started to get overwhelmed, and before I knew it, Peter had a bullet hole in his chest." I nodded, biting my lip in a weak attempt to stop more tears from falling. Everyone sighed and looked at each other, Tony's hand finding my shoulder as he patted it soothingly.
"Y/N, I'm so sorry. I don't think any of us can quite find the words to describe what we feel about this." He shook his head. I clenched my jaw and looked up at him.
"Then where were you?" I asked, tears blurring my vision slightly. Tony looked at me and sighed.
"Y/N, I promise you that we came as soon as we heard-."
"But Tony, don't you see? That's not good enough. That's not good enough, because Peter is fucking dead, and nothing is going to change that." I choked, shaking my head.
"Actually, that might not be true." Steve interjected. I looked at him.
"What?" I scoffed. He sighed and looked at Tony, who gave him a nod of reassurance to carry on.
"Y/N, have you heard of the infinity stones?" Steve asked, looking at me. My eyebrows furrowed and I shook my head.
"Basically, they're stones that hold the universe together. Now, one of them is the soul stone, and if we can find it, we can use it to bring Peter back to life, and then can return it like nothing happened." He nodded. My eyes widened.
"You can do that? You can bring my Peter back?" I choked.
"We can, Y/N. If you want us to." Tony nodded. I looked at him.
"What kind of a question is that? Of course I want you to. I want Peter back." I scoffed.
"Alright then. Suit up, and let's go find this thing." Steve nodded. I returned it, giving him and Tony the first smile since Peter had died before rushing off back into the room where Peter's body was. My smile dipped slightly as I saw his still dead figure, but hope filled my heart at the thought that he may be back with me soon. I sat back down on the stool next to the bench and ran my fingers through his curls as I studied his beautiful face.
"I'm going to bring you back, Peter. I'm going to bring you back if it's the last thing that I do." I promised, gently pressing my lips to his cheek before rushing out of the room to get suited up.
