Protection (Peter Parker)
I sat in the kitchen of the Avengers' Tower, absentmindedly twirling my red energy around my fingers as I tried to think about what to do. I gulped, trying to think about what Peter would say once he found out. I was hoping that he'd take it well, but I had no way of knowing. I looked down at my shaking left hand and smiled slightly at the engagement ring that Peter had given me only three months ago. That had been a magical night. The rest of the team had helped Peter to decorate the roof of the tower with fairy lights and beautiful canopies, making the place look magical. Then, after a candle-lit dinner to celebrate our five-year anniversary, Peter had gotten down on one knee and proposed. It was amazing. My smile faltered again, and I held my head in my hands. How had this even happened? Well, I knew the answer to that, a more appropriate question was how had we been so stupid as to let it happen? I didn't know.
"You okay, hun?" I looked up and gave Wanda and Natasha a small smile as they walked into the kitchen.
"Not really, no." I sighed.
"Why not?" Natasha asked, leaning against the island that I was sat at whilst Wanda sat next to me.
"Don't tell Peter." I gulped. Their eyebrows furrowed and they looked at each other.
"I think we have to hear what it is before we can promise that, hun." Wanda spoke. I gulped and looked between them.
"My period is late." I admitted. Their eyes widened.
"By how long?" Natasha asked.
"A month and a half." I gulped.
"Hun, you need to buy a pregnancy test-."
"I did, I took it, it was positive, I'm pregnant." I rambled, looking between them. They both stared at me with wide eyes.
"Um...congrats, honey? I thought that you and Peter wanted kids." Natasha spoke. I sighed and looked down.
"We do, but we also agreed we didn't want them right now. Both of us are Avengers, so not only do we not want our kids growing up with only one parent or neither of us, but we also don't want them in danger because of our jobs. We agreed to wait until we'd retired." I sighed.
"Well, I'm afraid you don't have much choice now. I assume that Peter doesn't know yet?" Wanda asked, making me shake my head.
"Okay. Well, you need to tell him, obviously. See what he thinks, and come to a solution, together. You never know, he may think that it's the perfect time. I mean, you guys are nearly thirty, you're definitely mature enough for a baby." Natasha shrugged.
"What if I'm not ready for a baby?" I asked. Natasha and Wanda looked at each other and sighed.
"That's something else you need to talk to Peter about, then." Natasha nodded. I sighed and returned it before looking down.
I sat next to Peter at the dining table, everyone eating dinner and chatting.
"So, the teacher walked in, and instead of telling her what he was doing and giving me away, Ned lied and said he was watching porn." Peter chuckled, making everyone around the table laugh. Peter looked down at me and frowned slightly as he saw that I wasn't laughing.
"You okay, babe?" he asked, gently putting his hand on my thigh. I nodded and gave him a small smile.
"I'm fine, just tired." I nodded. He returned it slowly, not fully believing my answer.
"You want some wine, Y/N?" Steve asked as he topped up Tony and Peter's glasses.
"Um, no, I'm good, thanks." I spoke. Peter looked at me.
"But you love wine." He stated. I gulped, trying to think of an excuse.
"I, erm...need to lose some weight, so I'm trying to go off of it for a while." I nodded.
"Nine months, to be exact." Wanda mumbled quietly, making me shoot her a glare.
"Come on, Y/N, have a drink, there's nothing wrong with your weight." Tony chuckled.
"Tony, she said that she doesn't want one." Natasha scoffed.
"One drink won't hurt, come on, Y/N, it's Friday night-."
"I SAID NO!" I yelled, slamming my hands down onto the table as I felt my eyes glowing red. Everyone stared at me with wide eyes.
"Y/N, babe, what's the matter?" Peter asked, putting his hand on my back to try and calm me down. I gulped and looked at him, panic streaming through me.
"I...erm...I need...never mind." I choked as I shot up and out of the room.
Peter's P.O.V
"Y/N, babe, what's the matter?" Peter asked, putting his hand on her back to try and calm her down. Y/N gulped and looked at him, panic laced into her stunning orbs.
"I...erm...I need...never mind." She choked as she shot up and out of the room.
"Y/N, wait!" Peter yelled, rushing to stand up and follow her.
"Peter, stay here, we'll go." Natasha nodded as Wanda rushed after Y/N, Natasha soon following behind. Peter sighed and sat back down.
"Do you guys know what that was about?" he asked. Tony, Steve and Bruce exchanged looks, eyebrows raised before looking back at Peter.
"Peter, I need to ask you a very personal question." Steve nodded. Peter's eyes widened slightly.
"Okay..." he spoke slowly.
"Do you and Y/N...um...how do I put this lightly-"
"Do you and Y/N have unprotected sex?" Tony cut Steve off. Peter's eyes widened and he flushed bright red. His eyes widened further, and his eyes wandered as he realised what Tony was asking.
"W-what...you think that Y/N c-could be...pregnant?" he gulped. The guys looked at each other.
"I mean, she said no to wine, she never says no to wine, and then pretty much exploded when asked too much. I think that there's a chance, kid." Steve nodded. Peter gulped again and returned it as he stood up and went to find Y/N.
Y/N's P.O.V
"God, why did he have to keep asking if I wanted fucking wine?" I cried, burying my face in my hands as I sat on the counter in the bathroom. Natasha and Wanda sighed, both of them comforting me.
"I know, Steve is stupid. All guys tend to be." Natasha scoffed.
"He definitely knows now, god." I choked.
"Knows what?" my eyes widened as I heard Peter's voice. I looked up through my fingers timidly, gulping as he stood at the open door.
"Knows that you two need to talk." Wanda nodded, putting a hand on Peter's back and gently pushing him into the bathroom.
"Okay, we're going to give you two some privacy." Natasha spoke.
"Nat, please don't leave." I gulped.
"You've got this, hun." She reassured, giving Peter a small smile as she passed him and shut the door. I gulped and looked down, doing anything to avoid Peter's gaze that I could feel on me. He gulped, shoving his hands into his trouser pockets as he stood in front of me.
"Is, um...is there something that you need to tell me, angel? Specifically about a baby?" he asked softly. I gulped and looked up at him through teary eyes.
"I'm sorry." I choked and shook my head. He sighed and nodded, giving me a small smile as he wrapped his arms around me and pulled my body into his. I rested my head against his chest and closed my eyes, letting his gentle heartbeat soothe me slightly.
"Why didn't you tell me, babe? You know that I want kids, so I'm over the moon about this. You know that, right?" he chuckled slightly, gently moving a strand of hair out of my face.
"I know, and so am I, but the timing sucks. We agreed to not get pregnant until we'd both retired." I sighed into his shirt.
"I know, sweetheart, but stuff happens, and stuff changes, and we couldn't control this. Not to mention that we're almost thirty. Our lifespans of being active superheroes only have a few years left on them realistically anyway." He chuckled as he clearly tried to reassure me. I looked up at him, feeling comforted by his arms still around me as he looked down at me with a soft smile on his lips.
"Are you really happy about this?" I gulped.
"Of course I am, I've always wanted to be a dad. You are too, aren't you?" he gulped. I bit my lip.
"I'm scared." I admitted. He sighed and nodded, gently kissing my head as he did.
"I know. But, just think of it as, I don't know...a mission. Yeah. An eighteen-year-long mission, where instead of having to kill the target, we have to keep them alive." He smiled. I laughed and shook my head.
"I'm not treating our baby like a mission, Peter Benjamin Parker." I giggled.
"No, of course not, we're going to treat them like our child who we love, and cherish, and couldn't wait for. Because that's what they're going to be, okay? It's going to be okay, and I'm right here with you." He reassured. I sighed and nodded.
"Thank you, Pete." I whispered.
"It's okay, angel. Honestly, I can't wait." He smiled and shook his head.
"Neither can I." I returned before leaning up and gently kissing him.
