Not mine *part 1* (Peter Parker)

I stood at my locker, sorting through my assignments as I tried to drone out the incessant sound of high school. Not that it was working.

"Hey." My heart immediately fluttered as Peter appeared behind me, his large hands holding my waist as he rested his chin on my shoulder.

"H-hey." I chuckled nervously, giving Peter a quick glance and hoping that he hadn't noticed the bright red dusting that was now on my cheeks. He didn't notice that, but he noticed something. He looked at me with furrowed eyebrows as he used his hands that were still on my waist (not that I minded) to turn me to face him, landing one hand on my lower back.

"You okay?" he chuckled. No, I'm not, I'm in love with my best friend, who is so intimate with me and yet continues to not notice my love for him, all whilst dating another one of my good friends, who I have now learnt to hate purely because she's dating the guy that I'm in love with.

"I'm fine." I nodded. He returned it slowly, his narrowed doe eyes telling me that he was still somewhat sceptical. But for once, his girlfriend walking up to us saved me from the situation.

"Hey, babe." Liz smiled at Peter.

"Hey, you." He returned, leaning in and pecking her lips. The exchange made me feel utterly sick, partly because it was gross PDA, but mainly because the kiss was with my best friend, who I was deeply in love with, and I had to just stand there and suffer.

"Y/N, I'm sure that Peter has already invited you to the party that I'm having this Saturday." Liz smiled. I forced myself to return it slightly, trying not to focus on the fact that I could see Peter cupping her waist and pulling her into his side, much like he had done a moment before to me. Just with the love. I couldn't think of anything worse than going to Liz's party, especially as her and Peter would be pretty much guaranteed to either be making out or dancing with each other the entire time. I had never intended to hate Liz, we had actually been really good friends before her and Peter had started dating. Her only wrongdoing was the fact that she had developed the guts to ask out the attractive boy before I had, but I couldn't help my stomach twisting slightly every time I saw them together, or every time Peter mentioned how great she was. It made me sick.

"No, he didn't actually." I nodded, looking at Peter.

"Oh, come on, Y/N/N, I was getting around to it, of course I was going to invite you." He scoffed.

"Uh huh." I mumbled, making him playfully roll his eyes at me.

"You're totally invited, Y/N, it'll be great to have you there, and I know how much Peter loves your company." Liz smiled sweetly. I couldn't help but feel a pang in my heart at her words. Whilst the thought that Peter loved being around me made me weak at the knees, it also deeply hurt, as I wished that he loved my company in the way that he did Liz's.

"You do?" I asked, looking at him.

"I do." He nodded before looking down. My heart sped up slightly as I swear that I saw a blush creep onto his cheeks, but I put it down to my eyes playing tricks on me. After all, I wasn't the one whose body was hooked into Peter's embrace.

"I've got to go, but I hope you can come. We still good for tonight?" Liz asked, directing the question at Peter.

"I thought that we were studying tonight." I gulped. Peter looked between us.

"We'll figure something out." He nodded, smiling as Liz pecked his lips before walking away.

"Tell me that you didn't just cancel on me for your girlfriend." I scoffed.

"Course not, Y/N, I wouldn't do that. The test that we're studying for is important, I'll tell her that, and she'll be fine to move our plans to another day." He shrugged. I sighed and looked down.

"Hey." He spoke, gently hooking his finger underneath my chin and raising it so that I was forced to look up at him. I sighed, instantly getting lost in the beautiful hazel eyes that I fell in love with more and more every day.

"You know that I love you." He chuckled, shaking his head slightly. I gulped, swearing that I saw his eyes briefly flicker to my lips, but I once again put the occurrence that probably didn't happen down to my eyes playing tricks on me.

"Uh huh, love you too, Parker." I returned. Just not in the way that you do. Peter smiled, gently pecking my head before wrapping his arm around my shoulder and walking us to our next class.

I sat in Peter's room, clenching my hands into fists around his bed sheets out of anger. He had told me that he wouldn't ditch me for Liz, yet here I was, almost an hour and a half after school had ended, and still no Peter. It wasn't unusual for me to go to Peter's apartment without him, as his teachers often kept him behind, so we had an agreement that if he was more than ten minutes late, I'd go without him. The added bonus was that I was so close to him and May that I could be by myself in the apartment, or alone with May, and they wouldn't mind at all. I looked at Peter's wardrobe, checking once again that his Spiderman suit was definitely there. It was, confirming that he hadn't ditched me for his patrol, something that I would have greatly preferred over the reality of him ditching me for his girlfriend. After all, I could hardly get mad at him for ditching me to save people. This, was different. I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard the front door open and my stomach twisted as I heard Peter's voice.

"May? You home?" I heard him say. His bedroom door opened and he walked in, his doe eyes widening as he saw me sat on the bed.

"Y/N...fuck...sorry." He gulped. My heart dropped as I realised that not only had he ditched me for Liz, but also that the little fucker had forgotten about me completely.

"Are you?" I scoffed as I stood up and crossed my arms over my chest. The boy gulped, putting down his bag as he saw how angry I was.

"I'm really sorry, I went to talk to Liz about rearranging our date so that we could study, but she started talking about this new coffee shop near school, and before I knew it, she was taking me there-."

"Peter, I don't give a fuck about your impromptu little date, what I care about is that not only did you ditch me for her, but you forgot that I was even coming over." I spat.

"Sorry, it just kind of, happened." He chuckled. Usually the small sound would make my heart flutter, the sound of Peter happy usually making me happy, but in this situation, it only made me more pissed off.

"Yeah, it always just kind of fucking happens with Liz, doesn't it?" I mumbled. Peter looked at me.

"Okay, well that definitely feels like something we need to talk about." He scoffed, cocking his head to the side slightly.

"Oh, so now you're willing to talk?" I returned. Peter's eyes widened.

"I've always been willing to talk, Y/N, especially as I've always suspected that you have a problem with my relationship, for god knows what reason. Come on, let's finally talk about it." He nodded. I gulped, my heart starting to speed up, as the last thing that I wanted to happen was me accidentally telling Peter my real feelings for him.

"Look, I know that you have an issue with me dating Liz. So, out with it, what's the issue?" he scoffed.

"What's the issue? Peter, you're always ditching me for her, today, you literally forgot about me." I snapped.

"No, Y/N, it's more than that, I know it is. So, talk to me, tell me. What's the issue?" he insisted. I gulped again, tears pricking my eyes.

"You know what? Fuck this." I scoffed, barging past Peter and towards his bedroom door. He caught my wrist as I passed him, making me groan as he pulled me back to face him.

"No, Y/N, tell me what the fuck is going on-."

"I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU, PETER, HOW THE FUCK DO YOU NOT SEE THAT?!" I yelled at the top of my lungs, raising my hands in exacerbation. Peter's eyes widened, the angry expression instantly leaving his face as he just stared at me.

"You...what?" he gulped.

"Yes, that's right, Peter, I'm in love with you. I'm in love with the really cute, dorky, nerdy, smart as fuck, kind, adorable, loving, beautiful guy that is my best friend. I'm in love with you, Peter, but that doesn't fucking matter anymore because Liz got there first, Liz got the guts before I did and because of that, she's with the guy that I'm in love with." I nodded, tears starting to leave my eyes. Peter just stood there, a look of shock mixed with sadness etched onto his face.

"Y/N...what am I supposed to say to that?" he scoffed gently as he started to run his hand through his hazel waves, something that he did when he was stressed. I sighed and shook my head.

"I don't know, Pete. All I know is that I've watched you and Liz happy together for half a year now, and I have suffered through every minute of it. I'm blaming myself, not you, because how were you supposed to know how I felt, but it kills me every time that I see you together, or every time you talk about something fun you did together, and I can't do it anymore." I choked. Peter looked at me, his own eyes glazing over.

"What are you saying?" he asked, his voice cracking.

"I'm saying that it's too hard to love you and watch you love someone else. I'm sorry, Peter." I gulped, tears streaming down my face as I turned to leave.

"Y/N, wait, don't go." I ignored Peter's pleas as I left his apartment and shut the door, tears rapidly leaving my eyes as I walked out of my best friend's life.

Peter's P.O.V

Peter stared at Y/N as she left the apartment, his eyes wide and his feet seemingly stuck to the floor so that he couldn't follow her. He let out the shaky breath that he only just noticed that he was holding, his heart almost thumping out of his chest. He sat down on his bed, his legs suddenly feeling weak as he held his head in his hands. Had his best friend, who he was in love with, just admitted to him that she was in love with him too? Peter was sure that she had, the situation only being made worse by the fact that she had said it during an argument about his girlfriend. He groaned and ran his hands through his hair. He never let himself admit that he had only really said yes to Liz asking him out to try and get over Y/N, yet the feelings were still there and he was still with Liz. He knew that it was wrong, but he still felt happy with Liz, and if he couldn't be happy with Y/N, he'd be happy with her instead. He lay back on his bed, staring at the ceiling as he tried to think about what to do. He gulped and grabbed his phone, only being able to think of two people who could help him with this. He typed out the message and pressed "send".
