Just a kid *part 4* (Peter Parker)

"Alright, guys, wheels down in three, two, one." Bruce spoke as the jetti landed roughly on the ground. The ramp opened and we all ran out. I gulped as we were only a hundred feet or so away from the HYDRA base, with a lot less cover than we usually got.

"This is going to be interesting." I mumbled to myself as Peter and I crouched in the little bush cover that we had, though it was just enough to hide us.

"I'm going in." Tony announced, followed moments later by the sound of his suit flying and all of the guards starting to scream as they started to be hit by his hand cannons.

"Y/N, Pete, you're up." Steve spoke in my ear. My eyes widened as Peter immediately shot up and launched himself into the air with a web.

"Jesus, wait for me, Pete." I scoffed into my comms as I got up and immediately started to run. I jumped into the air, launching myself at a HYDRA guard as my feet collided with his face and knocked him out as I landed.

"I'm not waiting, you catch up." He mumbled in return, making me roll my eyes at his immaturity as I ran at the doors of the base. I put my arms up in an "x" shape in front of my face, protecting it as I ran into the doors. They flew open immediately, allowing me to run in next to Natasha and Steve.

"Peter, where are you? You need to get to the generator." I spoke into my comms as I raised my foot and kicked a HYDRA guard in the chest, sending him and the two men behind him falling down with the force. I looked down the hallway to see Peter dropping down from the ceiling, one hand in between his feet before he stood up.

"Keep up." He muttered before starting to run again. I gulped, a sinking feeling in my chest as I ran after the boy, knocking out every agent that he hadn't tied up with his webs.

"The generator should be on your left, kid." Tony spoke, making Peter's head turn.

"Got it." He nodded. He raised his foot and kicked the door, making it fly open as he strolled in.

"Remind me why I needed Y/N's help again?" he asked, making my eyes waver as I looked down.

"Y/N, watch the door, I need to destroy this thing." Peter nodded, looking at me.

"I thought that you didn't need my help." I scoffed. His white eyes squinted at me.

"Please." He spoke through gritted teeth. I rolled my eyes and turned back around so that I was facing the door. My eyes widened as the HYDRA guard stood in front of me, his gun raised and ready to fire.

"Shit!" I yelled as he fired the gun. I leant my body to the side, dodging it with ease as I started to fight the guard.

"Y/N." Peter spoke. I turned around and my eyes widened as blood started to trickle from the newly formed bullet hole that sat in Peter's chest.

"NO!" I screamed, Peter falling to the floor as I slammed the guard's head against the wall, knocking him unconscious. I rushed to Peter and collapsed on my knees next to him, gently pulling his head onto my lap and pulling his mask off of his head so that he could breathe easier.

"You're okay, you're okay." I nodded, tears pricking my eyes as I stared down at him.

"I'm going to die, aren't I?" he gulped, looking up at me with glassy eyes. I bit my lip, trying to stop the tears from falling, but failing as a drop of salt water fell onto Peter's chest.

"Not if I have anything to do with it, you're going to be fine." I reassured, but I didn't even fully believe myself.

"Y/N." he coughed, making me look at him. I winced internally, my heart falling as drops of blood appeared on his lips. This was bad. Really, fucking, bad.

"I need you to tell my Aunt May that I love her, and that I'm sorry." He choked.

"Peter, you can tell her yourself, you're going to be fine-."

"Y/N, please." He gulped, tightly gripping my hand. I returned his gulp, unable to stop the tears from falling freely.

"Say that I'm going to live all you want, but if I don't, I need you to tell her for me. I'm all that she has left, she needs to know that I'm sorry. Please." He choked, tears now spilling out of his eyes. I let out a shaky breath, my head nodding by itself.

"I'll tell her. I promise." I whispered. He choked again and nodded, more blood spilling from his mouth as his eyes started to flutter shut.

"Peter, open your eyes, come on." I gulped, cupping his cheek and gently shaking his head. But his eyes remained closed. My eyes widened.

"Guys, I need help, Peter's in a bad way." I spoke shakily into my comms. I leant down and hauled him up, puffing slightly and grateful that my superpower was super strength as I hauled the boy over my shoulder and raced out of the room.

I stood outside of Peter's hospital room, biting at my nail as I stared at the sleeping boy from behind the wall of glass. I gulped, tears pricking my eyes as his stunning eyes remained closed, several tubes coming out of his arms and connecting to IV bags, a heart monitor showing a steady heartbeat. I gulped and looked down. Peter had completely lost consciousness just after I had hauled him onto the jet, and hadn't woken up since. That had been a week ago. I kept my eyes glued to the floor, not wanting anyone to see me cry as I felt a presence stand next to me.

"How you holding up, kid?" Tony asked, crossing his arms over his chest as he joined me in watching Peter. I shrugged and looked back up.

"I'm fine." I lied. He looked at me.

"No, you're not." He scoffed. I looked up at him, making him sigh as my eyes wavered and a tear fell from them.

"He's just a kid, Tony. How could this fucking happen, especially to him? He's so young, he has so much to live for, and now he may not even make it to adulthood." I choked.

"Hey, don't talk like that. He's going to be just fine, Y/N, we just have to wait. I know that it's still a shock what happened, but he'll live, I promise." He nodded. I shook my head.

"It should have been me." I mumbled. He looked at me.

"You take that back right now, young lady." He spoke sternly.

"Why should I? I'm an asshole who has no heart and is too cold, and who nobody likes, no-one says it, but everyone knows it. Peter? Peter's the opposite. He's so loving and caring, and kind, and he's everything that I'm not. He's everything good that I lack. So, no, I won't take it back. The asshole bitch of a girl who thinks that she's always had it harder than everyone else should be the one fighting for her life, not the amazing, sweet, caring boy that is in her place." I nodded, tears leaving my eyes. Tony sighed, his gaze staying on me.

"Y/N, your parents didn't raise-what was it, an asshole bitch of a girl who thinks that she's always had it harder than everyone else? Yeah, they didn't raise that child. They raised a girl who is kind and loving, and the only reason that she doesn't admit it is because of the tough exterior that's formed, but that's okay. Your parents raised you right, Y/N, which means that you're all the things that you called Peter, and none of the things that you called yourself. Sure, it may currently be hidden in the shell of a typical teenager, but your parents did well on you. You're a good kid, Y/N. I promise." He nodded. I gave him a forced smile and looked down, tears leaving my eyes at his words.

"Thanks, Mr Stark." I mumbled. He nodded again before looking at me.

"So, Peter, huh?" he chuckled, gently nudging my shoulder with his. I looked at him.

"What do you mean?" I chuckled nervously.

"You know exactly what I mean, kiddo. You like him." He stated. My eyes widened.

"N-no, Tony, I don't-."

"You keep forgetting that I've raised you for the last five years, so I know your tells. I've never heard you compliment anyone like you do Peter, you were genuinely hurt when he wouldn't talk to you on the jetti to the mission, not to mention the fact that you've been stood out here for a week now. You like him, a lot." He chuckled and nodded. I sighed, not wanting to admit that he was right.

"Also, Sam told me about your intimate gym session, I need to talk to Pete about boundaries when he wakes up, you're practically my daughter-."

"Fuck me, Tony, stop." I groaned, making my mentor laugh as I buried my face in my hands. Suddenly, Peter's heartbeat machine started to blare, making our eyes widen.

"FRIDAY, get Bruce down here now." Tony demanded as we rushed into the hospital room.

"Come on, Pete, fight it." Tony mumbled, me immediately rushing to Peter's side and cupping his face.

"Peter, fight this, you can do it, please don't give up." I gulped, my heart starting to race as the machine showed that the boy's heart was slowing down. Bruce rushed in, making me gulp as he looked extremely worried.

"What's going wrong?" he mumbled to himself as he peeled one of Peter's eyes open and shone a flashlight into it. My eyes widened as instead of reacting to the light, Peter's eye just rolled back instead.

"Shit, Tony, we're losing him, I need Cap down here, as well as ten milligrams of diazepane." Bruce ordered, making Tony nod.

"Is he going to be okay, Bruce?" I gulped, my hand still on Peter's cheek as I looked at the man. He sighed and gulped. I returned it and looked down at Peter, my eyes wavering as he looked so peaceful. I took a deep breath before leaning down and pressing my lips to his ear.

"Come back to me, Pete. I love you, please don't leave me alone. Please, Peter. Come back to me." I choked before pulling away and looking at his face again.

"Cap, get her out of here." I heard someone mumble. I gulped as I felt Steve's hand on my arm, gently starting to pull me away from Peter's side.

"Steve, get the fuck off of me." I spat, shrugging my arm out of his grip as Bruce and Tony continued to rush to save the boy.

"Y/N, you really shouldn't be in here, I'm sorry." Bruce shook his head.

"Bruce, I'm not leaving him, he's all I have left, I am not leaving his side." I choked. Tony sighed and looked at me.

"I'm sorry, Y/N." he mumbled before nodding to Steve. My eyes widened as Steve's arms wrapped around my waist, picking me up and starting to carry me out of the room.

"STEVE, FUCKING PUT ME DOWN!" I shouted, hammering my fists against his arms as he carried me out.

"Y/N, I know that you're upset but we all know that it's best if you're not in there right now." He nodded.

"FUCKING PUT ME DOWN!" I yelled again, tears continuing to roll down my face as the man carried me into the common room. He put me down on the sofa, making me sit down as he held me by my arms so that I couldn't get up.

"Look at me, kid." He demanded. I choked, my vision blurry as I looked at him wearily.

"He's going to be okay. But you need to stay out here and let Tony and Bruce save him. I know that you want to be with him right now, but you know that it's best for him if you're out here." He nodded. I looked at him.

"But I love him, Steve." I choked. He sighed and gave me a small smile.

"I know you do, kid. I know." He nodded. Suddenly, the beeping stopped, and my ears filled with the numbing sound of a flatlined machine. Steve's face immediately dropped, and he looked over his shoulder. I looked past him, and my heart dropped to my feet as Bruce and Tony remained stood over Peter. My eyes wavered and another tear left my eye as Tony bent over the end of the bed, head down, and Bruce's hands in his hair told me exactly what had happened.

"No." I choked.
