A normal life *part 1* (Peter Parker)

My eyes fluttered open, the feeling of Peter's arm wrapped around my waist tempting me back into sleep, but I resisted the urge as I knew that I had to get up. I sighed and stretched out as I sat up. I heard Peter's groans of annoyance at me getting up, making me smile and look over my shoulder at the sight of my still sleeping husband.

"Babe, we need to get up." I chuckled.

"You can get up, I'm going to have five more minutes." The curly-haired man nodded, making me giggle as he rolled onto his front so that his naked chest was pressed to the mattress.

"You don't have five minutes, you've got a meeting with Happy in an hour, Pete." I sighed, though biting my lip to try and stop my smile from growing.

"It's only Happy." He mumbled. I chuckled and shook my head as I stood up, pulling Peter's white dress-shirt around my body as I left the room. I walked through our house, taking a brief glimpse into Peter's project room before stopping in my tracks and going back to it. I sighed as I walked slowly into the room. The four walls held everything that was either related to Peter's previous job as Spiderman or what he needed in order to do his job as the CEO of Stark Industries from home. I bit my lip, walking up to the hanging picture frame that contained Peter's old Spiderman suit. I sighed as I ran my fingers along the glass. Peter and I had met in college five years ago, both of us having attended the same classes at Caltech but not noticing each other until the third year of our degree. We had started dating after we had drunkenly hooked up at the party at which we met. Peter was only meant to be a one-night-stand but thank fuck that he had ended up being so much more. After half a year together, he had asked me to move in and had also come clean about the fact that he was Spiderman, leaving me shocked, to say the least. Two years went by and before I knew it, he was getting down on one knee and proposing to me, us tying the knot two years later, and a year ago before where we were now. Though, when he had proposed, I had made Peter promise me that he'd at least try to give us a normal life, away from enemies and fame as much as he could considering that he'd inherited Tony's business. And that's when the suit had been framed and hung up for good. I bit my lip, still staring at the suit as I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist from behind.

"Morning." Peter mumbled into my neck, making me smile as I leant my hand back to run my fingers through his hair.

"Morning to you too, Mr Parker, CEO of Stark Industries." I teased. He groaned and moved his arms, making me laugh as he caught my hand in his moving one and started to pull me towards the kitchen.

"I got the job two years ago, when are you going to stop calling me that?" he chuckled as we walked into the kitchen, me pouring a mug of coffee.

"When it's no longer true." I nodded. He rolled his eyes playfully and smiled as his phone buzzed. He dug it out of his sweater-pant pocket and looked at it.

"Shit, I've got to go, babe." He sighed, quickly taking my mug and drinking some of the coffee.

"Everything okay?" I asked as he grabbed his wallet and keys before shoving them into his briefcase that was on the counter.

"Yeah, nothing for you to worry about. I'll see you at dinner." He smiled, leaning down and quickly pecking my lips before rushing off to get dressed. I chuckled and shook my head as I took another sip of my coffee.

Peter's P.O.V

"I'm home!" Peter yelled as he shut the front door, looking up to see if he could hear Y/N. Nothing. He sighed, knowing that it was probably a late-running shift for her as he put his briefcase down and quickly undid his tie. He wandered into the kitchen as he pulled the tie off completely, followed by his suit jacket as he undid the top few buttons of his white shirt. He grabbed an apple and took a bite before wandering into the living room.

"Hello there, Spiderman-."

"Jesus Christ!" Peter gasped as he whipped around, his hands forming into fists as the voice appearing from the dark sent him straight into fighting mode. He sighed in relief, holding a hand to his chest and rolling his eyes at Nick Fury sat in his armchair.

"Hey there, old friend." Nick nodded.

"Don't call me that." Peter mumbled.

"What, old friend?" Nick scoffed.

"No, Spiderman." Peter returned the scoff, running a hand through his hair and taking another deep breath. Since giving up being Spiderman, Peter had barely spoken to Nick Fury or anyone else from his past life. So he knew that if Nick Fury was talking to him, in his own house, his life was about to be turned upside down again by the role that he used to love, but had learned to leave behind.

"Why? It's what you are." Nick shrugged.

"No, Nick, it's what I used to be." Peter corrected, making Nick roll his eye. Peter looked at him.

"Is my wife home-."

"No. I thought that Y/N would take the reason that I'm here better from you, not to mention that I'd probably lose my other eye if I turned up to see her without you here too." He chuckled. Peter gulped and sat down.

"Mr Fury, why are you here?" he asked, looking at the man as he joined his hands. Nick looked at him and sighed.

"There's been chatter about a new potential threat, something about someone developing yet more alien tech into highly dangerous and destructive weapons. Like what you faced when you were in high-school. Except that in ten years, the threat has gotten a lot worse." He nodded.

"Is there no one else who can do it instead?" Peter sighed.

"Nope. Thor is off-world, Doctor Strange is unavailable, as is Captain Marvel. You're the only one who can handle this." He shrugged.

"How can you say that, Nick? I haven't even put my suit on in almost five years, you know that I stopped after I met Y/N. I haven't worn that thing in half a decade, let alone used it to fight crime. I'm not a fit teenager anymore." Peter insisted.

"Bitch please, you're twenty-five and still have abs, you're as fit now as you were back then." Nick scoffed. Peter sighed and looked down, his hazel curls flopping slightly over his face.

"Look, when I asked Y/N to marry me, her only condition was that we lived as normal a life as we could with me having inherited Stark Industries. But we've managed to do it, we live in a modest house, out of the spotlight and with me having retired from being Spiderman, and it's perfect for her. She accepted my proposal based off of that promise. I cannot break that promise to her, Nick." He scoffed, shaking his head.

"Peter, I'm sorry, but you have to. You know that everyone else is either dead or old enough to retire, you only retired because your girl told you to-."

"And is that such a bad thing? Wanting to just live a normal life, with my wife and have a normal family? I was robbed of ever being normal again when I got my powers, I was only fourteen when that chance got taken from me, this is the closest that I'm ever going to get to that, and I'm not giving it up that easily." Peter nodded, becoming annoyed with Nick. The man sighed and looked at him.

"I know that it wasn't your choice, kid, I accept that you were forced into this role. But the fact of the matter is that it was you that it happened to. You saved countless people in your role as Spiderman, and you can save countless more on this final mission." Nick tried to persuade him. Peter sighed and looked down.

"If I do this, and I mean if, will it be the last mission that I ever have to do?" he asked, looking back at Nick.

"I can't promise that for certain, but I'd say that it's likely. We have more rising stars than ever. Since half of the Avengers died or retired, more and more teenagers are crawling out of the woodwork with special powers and skillsets, just like you did. Soon, there will be some fifteen-year-old kid to replace you, like you replaced Tony." Nick nodded. Peter's eyes wavered slightly, and he looked down again at the thought that he was no longer special. He wasn't to be gotten wrong, he had had no problem with Y/N asking him to hang up his suit when he proposed, he would have done it a year or two after anyway. But he had to admit that it still hurt slightly knowing that he was no longer the young teenage hero that everyone had looked up to a decade ago. Obviously, he would talk to Y/N before making the final decision, but he wasn't going to be as hasty as he thought he'd be in turning down his last chance to make a real difference.

"So, do you have an answer for me, Peter? Or should I get a new prodigy to do it for me?" Nick asked. Peter clenched his jaw as he looked at the man, knowing that he was just trying to play to his ego, no matter how small it was. And he had to admit that it was working.

"I'll do it." He nodded.

"Good man. This guy is set up in California mainly, don't ask me why, so we'll fly you there in the morning." Nick spoke as he stood up. Peter sighed and looked down.

"Another thing." Nick spoke, making Peter look back at him. The man sighed.

"I know that Y/N and I don't exactly get along, but she's good for you. She's going to know that you're doing the right thing, and she'll support you in it. You got yourself a good one who will support you no matter what." Nick reassured.

"Yeah. She's good like that." Peter chuckled. Nick nodded, giving the man a small smile and a pat on the shoulder as he left. Peter sighed, looking down and running his hand through his hair as he looked at the apple that had long since been forgotten about.

"So much for a normal life, huh, Pete?" he mumbled to himself as he stood up and headed into the kitchen.

Y/N's P.O.V

I walked along the hallway, on my way to mine and Peter's bedroom, but slowed down and smiled as I heard Peter talking to FRIDAY in his project room.

"FRIDAY, just turn that around for me, give me a better view...there we go." I heard him mumble. I looked into the room, Peter's back turned to me and his head down as he leant against the table and looked at the images on the surface.

"Peter, are you okay?" FRIDAY asked, her program obviously having sensed something different in his voice.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm just...distracted." My husband sighed.

"By what?" FRIDAY asked.

"It's, um...it's nothing." He mumbled.

"I'm curious too." I pitched in, making Peter shoot around to look at me.

"Jesus, babe, don't sneak up on me like that." He sighed, puffing out and leaning against the table as he rested a hand to his chest.

"I thought that your Peter tingle picked it up." I teased, making him groan and throw his head back as I walked towards him.

"My Spidey senses pick up threats. You, Mrs Parker, aren't really a threat." He chuckled, his lips curling into a smirk as he curled his arms around my waist and pulled me into his body whilst looking at my lips. I returned the smirk as I leant in and joined our lips, Peter returning it as he pulled me closer by my waist. I broke the kiss and touched our foreheads, making Peter's smile dip slightly.

"Babe, I, um...I have to tell you something." He mumbled. I looked at him.

"Okay..." I spoke slowly. He gulped and looked at me.

"Nick Fury came by the house today." He admitted. My eyes widened.

"What?" I scoffed.

"I know, I wasn't expecting it either. But I came home from work and there he was." He nodded. I gulped, tears pricking my eyes as I already knew where this was going.

"He, um...he wants my help for one last mission. Apparently, there's this weapons guy up in California who's developing really dangerous alien tech weapons, worse than what I faced when I was a teenager. He wants my help to take him down." He explained, looking into my eyes as his thumbs rubbed soothingly against my waist. I looked down, a tear rolling down my cheek.

"A lot of people are going to die if I don't help, and I know that that breaks the promise that I made you, to hang the suit up, but I have to do it-."

"You're right, you do have to do it." I nodded as I looked back up at him. His brown eyes widened slightly as his eyebrows furrowed.

"W-what?" he chuckled nervously, as if he was expecting it to be some kind of trick.

"Peter, I know that you wouldn't be wanting to break the promise that you made me unless you were seriously needed, and the situation was really bad. Trust me, it hurts knowing that you may come back to me hurt, but I agree that you need to help those people, you need to do it." I choked. He sighed, nodding slightly as he gently cupped my head and pulled it down to rest in the crook of his neck. I returned the hug, trying not to cry at the situation.

"I'm going to come back to you, Y/N. I'm going to come back to you if it's the last thing that I do." He promised as he gently kissed my head. I looked up at him and gave him a small smile before leaning up and pressing our lips together gently.
