The new girl (Tom Holland)
Requested by Meg_Weasley24: Tom, Harrison and Y/N have always been really good friends but one day, a new girl arrives at their high school and takes Tom away from Y/N. Y/N talks to Harrison about it, who convinces her to tell Tom how she feels. She goes to talk to Tom but he opens the door shirtless and with the girl only wearing his shirt.
"I can't believe that you actually got it!" I laughed, my arms around Tom's neck and his arm around my waist as Tom, Harrison and I walked into school.
"Oh, thanks for the faith, love." he scoffed, making me playfully roll my eyes.
"Nah, Tom, we knew that you'd get it." Harrison chuckled.
"That's the reaction that I expected from my best friends, take notes, Y/N." he continued to tease, making me lightly slap his chest as we headed to our lockers. Tom, Harrison and I had been friends for the longest time, and so Harrison and I were seeing the start of Tom's acting career take off. He had just been cast in 'In the heart of the sea' and so naturally we were over the moon for him. Though, the thought of my best friend and secret crush leaving to go to America for months on end did upset me slightly. We'd been friends for the best part of twenty years by this point, and I'd always had a little thing for Tom that had blossomed into a full-on love for the boy by the time that we were seventeen. But now he was potentially moving away to America, and that was breaking me inside. Of course, though, I wouldn't tell him that.
"Does that mean that you're not finishing school?" Harrison asked as we opened our lockers.
"Unfortunately, I still have to finish. They don't start filming until next year anyway, so we'll all have graduated long before we start filming. Even if that wasn't the case, you know what my mum is like, do you really think that I'd be allowed to fuck off to America before finishing school?" he teased, making us chuckle and nod in agreement. Suddenly, Tom's eyes flicked past me before widening slightly.
"Woah." he mumbled. My eyebrows furrowed and I turned around, my heart immediately dropping as I realised what had Tom so breath-taken. A girl who I didn't recognise had just walked into school, her eyes looking around as she held the strap of her bag in her hand.
"Who's that?" Harrison scoffed.
"I don't know, but I want to find out." Tom nodded before heading over to her. My eyes widened slightly and I gulped harshly as my heart dropped to my feet. I'd been trying for the last few years to get Tom to look at me like that, and this new girl had made it happen within a second of walking through the school doors. Tom walked up to her, making her smile as he started to talk to her.
"What do you think that he's saying to her?" I mumbled, tears pricking my eyes as I watched them laugh and smile at each other.
"Probably just saying hi to her. I wouldn't worry, mate." Harrison shrugged as he shut his locker.
"Y-yeah. I'm sure that it's just that." I nodded, desperately trying to keep myself composed as they continued to talk.
That had been six months ago, and they hadn't just been talking. The new girl was called Becky, and as soon as she'd walked into the school, Tom had been whipped over her. It had started harmlessly enough, with him inviting her to sit with us and eat at lunchtimes. The subtle flirting and smiling had hurt, but I could deal with it. After all, Tom had had girlfriends before and I'd always managed to cover up my feelings. But then he started to invite her to our hang-outs, where he'd always try and sit next to her and vice versa. Then it developed into him hanging out with just her and hanging out with us less, before he just stopped hanging out with Harrison and I altogether. I'd heard from other students that they'd officially started dating five months ago. I wasn't sure what hurt more, the fact that Tom had asked her out so quickly whilst I'd been trying to make him notice me for years, or the fact that he hadn't even talked to me enough in the last half a year to tell me about them dating, I'd had to hear it from other students. And so here I was, sitting on Harrison's bed and crying my eyes out whilst my other best friend, who was equally as hurt that Tom had just stopped hanging out with us, hugged and supported me.
"I know that it hurts, Y/N. I'm so sorry, mate." he sighed, my body wrapped in his arms as he gently cradled me.
"I just don't know why it never happened for us. I tried for years to make him notice me, years, and then Becky takes his breath away within seconds." I choked.
"I don't know why either. You're such a fucking catch and Tom would be lucky to have you, especially as you wouldn't take him away from his best friends." he sighed. I bit my lip and looked up at him.
"I'm sorry for you too, Haz. It must have hurt when he stopped hanging out with even you." I gulped. He sighed and gave me a small smile.
"He's being an asshole, but he thinks that he's in love, so I get it. It'll end when it ends, and he'll come running back to us, but we have to be there for him when it does." he nodded.
"Yeah, of course, I'd never not be there for him." I reassured, making him sigh. Suddenly, his eyes widened slightly, his eyebrows furrowing as he clearly thought.
"Y/N, what if you told him how you felt?" he asked. My eyes widened and I sat up fully.
"What?" I gulped.
"I don't necessarily mean tell him about your feelings, but tell him how lonely you feel. Tell him how it's not fair that he's just dropped you for Becky. Have you ever actually talked to him about this?" he asked. I bit my lip, my heart pounding at the idea of confronting Tom about this. But maybe it was the best way.
"You think that I should tell him? Tell him how hurt I've been by this?" I asked quietly.
"I think that it's worth a shot. I love you, mate, but you've been crying to me for the last few months about this, it can't be good for you to unnecessarily put yourself through this. I think that you need to talk to him." he encouraged. I sighed and bit my lip before nodding.
"Yeah, you're right. I'm going to go over there now and see what he says." I decided before standing up from Harrison's bed and grabbing my stuff.
I pulled up outside of Tom's house, my heart in my throat as I stopped the car and climbed out. I locked it, my eyes glued to the structure in front of me as I desperately tried not to cry. I was so nervous that it hurt, but I was here now and there was no going back. I took a deep breath before heading up the path. I knocked on the door and waited for a response, my keys almost shaking in my hand for how nervous I was. The door opened to reveal Tom, both of our eyes widening as he was only in a pair of low-hung jogging bottoms. He looked really fucking good, but I tried to not let that distract me as I looked at his face.
"Y/N, love...what are you doing here?" he gulped.
"I-I, um, wondered if we could talk for a minute." I nodded.
"I'm sorry, darling, but this isn't a good time-."
"Tommy, who is it?" my eyes widened further, my heart dropping to my feet as Becky appeared from behind him. Wearing only his t-shirt. My eyes wavered, my heart pounding through my chest as I desperately tried not to cry.
"Oh, hey, Y/N." Becky spoke hesitantly, making me gulp and look at her. I looked back at Tom, him gulping harshly as he looked at me with glossing-over eyes.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come here, it was a mistake." I shook my head, a tear leaving my eye as I turned away and rushed back to my car.
"Y/N, wait, please!" Tom called after me. I ignored him, tears now streaming down my face as I got into my car and forced the key into the ignition. I turned the car on and sped off just as Tom reached my door. I choked and looked in the wing mirror, my heart shattering even more as Tom was watching me drive off from the pavement. I bit my lip, my vision blurring as I tried to process what I had just seen. Why the fuck had I gone over there? I had been heartbroken enough, and now I was even more so knowing that I had basically caught my crush having sex with his girlfriend. It broke my heart. I choked and shook my head as I raised my hand to wipe the tears away, my foot still on the pedal as I just drove. Suddenly, I heard a loud car horn. I looked to my side, my eyes widening and a scream leaving my lips as a car sped towards me.
Tom's P.O.V
Tom stared at Y/N with wide eyes, his heart pounding through his chest as his best friend and crush stood at his door. If he wasn't so worried about why she looked upset and how he'd been acting with her for the last few months, he would have blushed at the fact that she was seeing him in only his jogging bottoms. But she looked really upset, and Tom had to find out why.
"Y/N, love...what are you doing here?" he gulped.
"I-I, um, wondered if we could talk for a minute." she nodded. He gulped, knowing that he had to get Y/N out of here before Becky appeared. After all, he didn't know how he'd explain away the fact that he was shirtless and she was only in his t-shirt, he doubted Y/N would believe that they hadn't been having sex.
"I'm sorry, darling, but this isn't a good time-."
"Tommy, who is it?" Y/N's eyes widened further, Tom's heart dropping to his feet as Becky appeared from behind him. Tom swallowed thickly, his eyes wavering as he looked down. How was he going to get Y/N back after this? He had no fucking clue.
"Oh, hey, Y/N." Becky spoke hesitantly, making Y/N gulp and look at her. She looked back at Tom, his heart breaking as he could see how hurt she was.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come here, it was a mistake." She shook her head, a tear leaving her eye as she turned away and rushed back to her car.
"Y/N, wait, please!" Tom called after her. She ignored him as she got into her car and slammed the door. Tom reached the door and cursed himself as the car turned on and she sped off just before he could open it. He choked as he watched her drive off from the pavement. He looked down, tears leaving his eyes as he really knew that he'd fucked up in many ways, the first being phasing himself out of the friendship with her and Harrison, and the potential for a relationship with her. After all, whilst he liked Becky and thought that she was nice enough, he'd often look at her and long for her to turn into Y/N. He knew that it was fucked up, especially as Becky had insisted that he cut off his friendship with her since she'd apparently noticed the way that Tom looked at her. The truth was that he was in love with Y/N, but he didn't know how to bring them back from this point. They weren't even friends anymore now, and that broke Tom inside. He clenched his jaw, his eyes glued to the pavement as he headed back up the path and into the house. He shut the door, his hand resting against it for a moment as he still tried to process everything.
"What was that all about?" Becky's voice rang out, making Tom close his eyes. He clenched his jaw and looked back up at the girl who was still in his t-shirt. He'd bet money on the fact that Y/N would look better in his clothes, though.
"I don't know, because you appeared before she could say anything. I told you to wait in the bedroom." he scoffed.
"So? I wanted to see what the fuss was about." she shrugged.
"She's going to think that we've slept together now, Becky." he snapped.
"So fucking what, Tom? We're an eighteen-year-old couple who have been together for six months, couples our age have sex." she spat back.
"We don't, though." he nodded before he realised something. His eyes widened slightly.
"Wait...did you come down just so that it would look like that? Like we'd had sex?" he scoffed. She shrugged and looked at her nail, making him scoff again as he shook his head.
"You're unbelievable, Becky-." Tom looked down at his phone as it started to ring with Harrison's number. He sighed and clicked 'accept' before holding it to his ear.
"Haz, it's not a good time-."
"Y/N's been in a car accident." Tom's eyes widened.
"What?" he choked, his heart plummeting to his feet and his knees buckling as he started to feel his world fall apart around him.
"She's alive but I'm not sure what shape she's in. All I know is that we need to get to the hospital now." Harrison spoke.
"Yeah, fuck, of course, I'll meet you there." Tom nodded to himself, tears leaving his eyes and his hand pulling at his curls as he hung up the call.
"Why are you so upset? What happened?" Becky scoffed, making Tom choke and look at her.
"What happened is that we're done." he nodded. Her eyes widened as he shot up the stairs and into his parents' room.
"WHAT?!" Becky exclaimed, Tom opening his parents' wardrobe and rummaging through his mum's dresses as Becky stood there.
"I need to go, and I need my t-shirt back." he demanded.
"What the fuck am I supposed to wear, asshole? My clothes are still in your washing machine." she spat.
"Wear this." he nodded as he handed her one of his mum's dresses. Her eyes widened.
"I'm not wearing this-."
"Just fucking wear it, my mum will understand once I explain to her. Put that on, give me my t-shirt back, take your clothes from the machine and leave. I need to go, Becky, and I'm leaving with our relationship. I'm sorry but we both knew that this was coming." he shook his head.
"Whatever." she scoffed before pulling Tom's t-shirt off and throwing it at him.
"Thank you. Show yourself out." he mumbled, rushing out of the room as he pulled the t-shirt on. He grabbed his wallet, phone and keys before leaving the house. His heart pounded in his chest, the thought that he may have lost the chance to tell Y/N how he really felt making him feel sick as he got into his car and turned the ignition.
Y/N's P.O.V
I sat in the hospital bed, my arm in a cast and sling, and tubes attached to my hand as Harrison sat in the chair next to me with my uninjured hand in his.
"You really gave me a heart attack, Y/N, fuck." Harrison chuckled, making me smile and bite my lip.
"I gave myself a heart attack, but I'm sorry. I shouldn't have rushed away from Tom's like that, it was stupid of me to try and drive when I was crying so much." I sighed.
"All that matters now is that you're alive." he reassured, making me give him another smile. Suddenly, the door burst open, my eyes widening as Tom rushed into the room.
"I'm so sorry, I came as soon as I heard." he panted heavily.
"H-how did you even know that I was here?" I gulped.
"Sorry, my bad." Harrison smiled sheepishly, making me sigh and timidly look at Tom.
"Now that he is here, you two need to talk." Harrison stated as he stood from the chair.
"Yeah, that's a good idea." Tom agreed, the boy looking at me as Harrison left the room and shut the door. I gulped and looked down, not wanting Tom to see me cry again as I felt him sit where Harrison had just been.
"Are you okay, darling?" he asked quietly, making me gulp harshly and force a smile onto my lips as I looked up at him.
"Few cuts and bruises. They're keeping me in overnight just to make sure that nothing internal is damaged, but they're confident that my worst injury is the broken arm." I mumbled. Tom gulped and nodded as he looked at me.
"So, I have a lot to explain and apologise for. But first thing that I want you to know, Becky and I didn't have sex." he shook his head. I rolled my eyes and looked at him.
"Tom, we're both adults, she was naked and so were you. I'm a big girl, I can handle you fucking someone else-."
"I'm being serious, Y/N. I made her a coffee at my house but Tessa jumped on her and spilt it all over her. I said that she could use the washing machine for her clothes whilst she wore something of mine in the time being. Then I realised that the only clean thing that I had was the t-shirt that I was wearing, but I also wasn't about to let her walk around in her underwear when the twins and Paddy were due home. So, that's why she was naked apart from my t-shirt and why I was shirtless. We never had sex, Y/N." he shook his head. I looked at him.
"You guys have been together for six months, how did that never happen?" I questioned. His eyes wavered, his Adam's apple bobbing as he looked down.
"It never happened because, well...I never really liked her. I mean, I do as a friend, she's okay, but not like that. This whole time, I actually liked you, but I didn't start realising it until recently." he admitted as he looked back at me. My eyes widened, my breath hitching in my throat as I looked at him.
"What?" I choked, my heart almost thumping out of my chest as I tried to process what Tom was saying. This entire time, he had liked me.
"I know, and I'm so sorry. I've been such a dickhead to you and Harrison for the last half a year, but what I'm saying is true. I realise now that I've fallen for you, and I was terrified when Harrison told me that you'd been hurt. I was terrified because it hit me that I may have lost my last chance to tell you how I really feel. So, as soon as he told me, I broke up with Becky and came here. It's okay if you don't feel the same, but I needed you to know the truth." he confessed.
"Tommy, of course I like you back. Fuck, I've fallen for you too." I shook my head as tears started to leave my eyes. He looked at me.
"Really?" he asked hopefully.
"I love you, but you're such a dumbass. I've been trying to get you to notice how much I love you for years." I stated, making his eyes widen.
"Wow. I fucked up." he chuckled. I smiled and bit my lip before taking his face and pulling him to me. I leant in and pressed our lips together, Tom returning the kiss as he gently held my waist. He smiled into it, making me return the smile as I let my heart fill with happiness again for the first time in half a year. He broke the kiss and looked at me.
"I'm so sorry that I put you through that, and that you had to get hurt for me to finally realise everything. But I'm here now, darling, and I'd love for you to be my girlfriend." he nodded. I smiled and bit my lip as I kept my hand around his cheek.
"I'd love that too, Tommy." I whispered. He returned my smile and pecked my lips again before sitting back down.
"Can we get Harrison back in here? I need to apologise to him too." he smiled sheepishly, making me chuckle and shake my head as I waved to Harrison through the window of my room.
"He also loves you too much not to forgive you." I reassured as Harrison came back into the room.
"Haz, mate, I have some apologising to do." Tom stated, making Harrison sigh and grab the chair from the door before sitting it next to Tom.
"Yeah, you do. But that's okay, because we love you." he smiled, making Tom and I chuckle and nod as we sat there and started to talk it out, my hand staying held in Tom's for the rest of the visit.
