Love and monsters (Tom Holland)
Requested by Homie_3: can you do a story with Tom and Y/N trying to get together like Joel and Amy (Tom and Y/N got separated at the start of the world ending and are in separate bunkers, so Tom decides to go and bring her back to him and his family.)
*Please note: as the request suggests, this one-shot is based off of the Netflix movie 'Love and monsters'. I've given a brief summary without spoilers what the basis is in the request, but if you haven't watched that movie, I suggest that you do before reading this. The one-shot will just make more sense if you've watched the movie, but that's up to you guys of course. Anyway, thank you and enjoy :)*
"Tommy, stop!" I laughed and squealed, my boyfriend lying on top of me and teasingly nipping at my neck as he pinned me down.
"What? I'm not doing anything." He smirked into my skin.
"Stop! It's not even turning me on, it just tickles!" I laughed.
"That's the point, darling." He chuckled. More squeals and laughs left my lips as he pinned my hands above my head and intertwined our fingers. He stopped kissing my neck before raising his head to look down at me.
"In all seriousness, I absolutely love spending this time with you, sweetheart. You're my world." He spoke quietly. I bit my lip and returned the look, my heart full with love for the boy on top of me.
"I love you too, Tommy." I whispered. He smiled and bit his lip before leaning down and kissing me gently. I returned it, my eyes fluttering shut as my hands raised to hold his face. Suddenly, we heard a loud bang from outside. Our eyes shot open and Tom looked up at his window. His eyes widened.
"What the fuck?" He mumbled as he climbed off of me and stood up before heading to the window.
"What's going on, Tommy?" I gulped, the sound of people screaming starting to get louder outside as I rushed to the window too. I ducked under his arm to look, my eyes widening as we saw what was happening. What looked to be a giant hermit crab could be seen in the distance, people screaming and running away from it as it drove its huge claws down into the road.
"Oh my god." I choked, the giant monster already causing chaos as it slowly but surely moved towards Tom's house.
"We need to go, now." He nodded, making my eyes widen as he rushed to his bed and grabbed his jacket as well as my bag.
"Go where, Tom? What do we even do?" I gulped as he took my hand and pulled me out of his room.
"I don't know what we do, but we can't stay here." He shook his head as he rushed us down the stairs.
"Tom, thank god, we need to leave." Nikki gulped, Tom's parents and brothers also rushing out of the house. We ran out, the ground shaking and thumping as the thing got closer to the house. Suddenly, my parents' car raced down the street and came to a sharp stop in front of Tom's house. My mum climbed out, making my eyes widen.
"Mum, what's going on?" I choked as I tightly hugged her.
"We don't know. Apparently a meteor hit a few hundred miles away and the radiation made this happen. We need to go." She nodded.
"Mum, please, I can't leave Tom." I shook my head.
"You have to, honey, I'm so sorry. His family has a car, they can get themselves out too. Say goodbye to him quickly, we need to go." She spoke. I choked, tears starting to leave my eyes as she got back into the car and I turned around to look at Tom again. He returned the look, his eyes glossing over as he walked to me.
"Please don't go." He choked and shook his head as he gently took my face into his hands. I closed my eyes and bit my lip, tears streaming down both of our faces as he touched our foreheads.
"I have to, Tommy. We both have to go, I'm sorry." I whispered. He sighed but nodded, both of us knowing that we had to part ways now. Tom and I were nineteen and had been together since we were sixteen, and so I couldn't even imagine how hard life was going to be without being with him almost every day.
"I'll find you, sweetheart. No matter what this is, no matter how hard it gets, I'll find you." he promised.
"You better." I teased lightly. He chuckled and bit his lip, my heart breaking as he leant in and gently kissed me. I returned the kiss, my face now wet with tears as I desperately grasped the fabric of his shirt. This was the last time that I'd be kissing Tom for god knows how long, and it was breaking my heart. It was tearing me up inside to know that for the first time since we'd started dating, we'd be properly apart until the foreseeable future. But I knew that we had to get through it. I reluctantly broke the kiss and left my boyfriend's arms, my hand running through his as I walked away from him.
"I love you, darling." he called after me as I climbed into the back of my parents' car.
"I love you too, Tommy. Find me." I nodded. He returned it, another tear rolling down his cheek as the car started to drive. He watched us drive away, another choke leaving my lips as he became smaller in the mirror and more far away. This was it. We were officially apart in whatever the fuck this was.
When my parents had driven me away from Tom's house as the monster headed towards it, I had had no idea that we would go this long without meeting again. After all, it had been five years and Tom and I were yet to be reunited. The giant hermit crab that we had seen that day had turned out to be only one of thousands of insects, bugs and animals that had been mutated by the meteor that had hit the planet earlier that day. Within days, the planet had been overrun with monsters, forcing everyone who wasn't eaten or injured into underground bunkers. To this day, I wished that I'd decided to stay with Tom because I'd found out that his entire family had made it safely to the bunker that they were in, whilst my parents had died only hours after they'd taken me away from him. I had been lucky enough to get myself into a bunker and I had discovered within a few months that we had contact with the bunker that Tom was in. And so whilst we hadn't met again in person yet, we'd been talking regularly over the radio over those years. To say that it had been my only source of refuge was an understatement.
"Y/N." I snapped out of my thoughts as I heard my name. I looked to the door of my room to see Mandy standing there.
"Romeo is on the radio again." She teased. I squealed and shot up from my bed, making her laugh as I rushed past her. I rushed through the bunker, smiling at other residents that I passed as I rushed to the control room. I ran in and quickly sat down at the radio before clicking the button.
"Tommy." I gulped. The radio filled with static, making me bite my lip anxiously as my finger kept the button pressed down.
"...Darling." I breathed a sigh of relief, my eyes fluttering shut as the signal hadn't dropped.
"It feels so good to hear your voice." I nodded to myself.
"Same goes for you, sweetheart. You okay?" he asked. I sighed and bit my lip.
"It's been a long week, Tommy, I won't lie to you. Our perimeter got breached again, and we lost Jamie to one of the big hornets. It's getting worse, babe. I don't know how much longer we'll hold out here for." I gulped.
"Well, it's lucky that I figured out where you are, then, isn't it?" he admitted. My eyes widened, my breath hitching at his words.
"...What?" I gulped.
"I mean it, sweetheart. I finally did it, I finally figured out where your bunker is. And, well...I'm coming for you." he spoke. I choked, my eyes wavering as tears started to prick my eyes. My heart jumped, the idea of finally being reunited with Tom filling me with happiness. But also filling me with complete and utter fear. After all, there were potentially hundreds of miles between us, and there was a reason that no one lived on the surface anymore, let alone travelled anywhere. Travelling in this world was practically a death sentence.
"T-Tommy, are you sure? Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely love to see you again, but it's far too dangerous." I gulped.
"I can do it. I didn't mention it to you before now because I didn't want to get your hopes up if we didn't figure out where you were, but I've been planning this for weeks. Sam and Harry have been helping me figure out the safest way to get to you. I want to do this, love. I want to bring you back to our bunker." he spoke gently. I bit my lip, tears pricking my eyes as I tried to process everything. If I was completely honest with myself, it sounded perfect. Our bunker was no longer safe, not to mention that I was alone here, so being with Tom and his family in a safe bunker was my idea of heaven in this hell of a life.
"I can't talk you out of this, can I?" I asked.
"No. You can't, darling. I know that things are falling apart for your bunker, and I can't let you die. I'm coming to get you." he responded gently. I nodded and bit my lip, a smile threatening to curl onto my lips at his words.
"Okay, Tommy. Okay, let's do this." I nodded to myself.
"Amazing. I'm leaving today, and if all goes well, it should take me about a week to get to you. But I promise that I will get there." he reassured.
"Please do. I can't live without you, even if it is just over radio." I shook my head, my eyes wavering as yet more tears fell.
"I love you, darling. And I'll see you in a week." he spoke gently.
"I love you too. For the love of god, look after yourself out there." I choked.
"I will, sweetheart. I will." he replied before static filled the call again. I bit my lip, my heart almost thumping out of my chest. Tom was actually coming, and he was coming for me. But first, he had to make it here alive. And that was the bit that terrified me.
Tom's P.O.V
"You're joking, aren't you?" Harry scoffed, him and Sam following Tom around his room as he shoved everything that he needed into his rucksack.
"You've been helping me plan this for weeks, you know that I'm not joking." Tom mumbled.
"We didn't think that you'd actually do it?!" Sam exclaimed.
"Then why did you help, huh?!" Tom retorted as he turned to face his twin brothers. They sighed and looked at him.
"Look, Y/N's bunker is dangerously close to collapsing. Another one of the residents was killed this week by a monster, so it's only a matter of time before they pick through each person to get to Y/N. At the very least, she's a friend who has no one and so we can give her a new family with familiar people. At the most, and the truth of the matter, is that she's the love of my life, and I can't live without her. I've spent the last five years heartbroken, not only because I wasn't with her, but because I knew that she's alone there, with no family or real friends. Now I know where she is, why the fuck wouldn't I go and get her? Not only will we be together again, but she'll have a family back. I can't take that away from her now that I've promised it." Tom choked and shook his head, his eyes wavering as a tear rolled down his face. The twins looked at each other.
"There's nothing that we can say to change your mind, is there?" Sam checked.
"See? Now you're getting it." Tom nodded as he grabbed his now full rucksack and hauled it on his shoulder. He headed out of his room, his parents and Paddy stood at the hatch that they had to open to get to the surface. He sighed as he saw his mum's glossy eyes, her lip quivering as she clearly tried not to cry.
"I'll be back, mum. And I'll be back with Y/N." he reassured as he leant down and hugged her tightly.
"You better be. I'll kill you if you die." she teased, making him chuckle and pull away to hug his dad and Paddy. He pulled away from his younger brother and gave Sam a small smile as he handed him the bat wrapped in barbed wire. He looked at his family, tears pricking his eyes as the magnitude of what he was doing started to set in. He really was about to travel several miles over monster-infested land in the name of love. Yup. Sounded about right.
"I'll be back in two weeks. I'll send word that I'm okay when I get to Y/N's bunker. Because I will get there. And then we'll get back here." he nodded reassuringly.
"We know, son. You've got this." his dad encouraged. He gave them all a small smile and took a deep breath before looking up. He climbed onto the ladder, his feet moving up so that he was close to the hatch. He opened it, light flooding into the bunker as he climbed out. He sealed the hatch again and squinted his eyes as he looked around. He jumped down from the outside section of the bunker before looking around.
"Right. Here we go." He mumbled to himself before starting to walk.
Y/N's P.O.V
I lay on my bed, my eyes glued to the ceiling as I tried to not let my thoughts run wild. It wasn't working, though. It had been ten days since Tom had left for this bunker, and I'd heard nothing. Which was making my heart break considering that he'd told me that it would only take a week. Either he was just taking longer than he'd estimated...or he was dead. I squeezed my eyes shut, tears running down my face at the realisation. He had come here to rescue me, he had come here to get me, and so I'd never forgive myself if he had died on the way. He was the love of my life, all I wanted was to be safe with him. Though I had the worst feeling that that dream was now completely and utterly dashed.
"Y/N!" my eyes shot open and I looked to my door as Mandy appeared at it, the woman heavily panting as she stood there. My eyebrows furrowed, my heart jumping as I sat up on my bed.
"What?" I gulped.
"There's something that you need to see." she nodded. I swallowed thickly again, my eyes wavering as my mind tried to think about what was so urgent. Though realistically, it could only be one thing considering that everyone knew that Tom was coming for me. And that one thing was that they'd instead found his body. I returned her nod and shot up, her starting to lead me through the narrow corridors of the bunker. She rushed to the open hatch and climbed up the ladder, me quick on her tail as we climbed out of the bunker.
"Over here. Quickly." she rushed, making me gulp as she rushed us through the growth of the surrounding forests. My eyes widened, my heart shattering as I saw a body lying in the underbrush and surrounded by a couple of our men. My worst fears were confirmed as we got closer. It was Tom.
"Oh my god, Tommy." I choked as I collapsed on my knees next to his body and took his face into my hands. He didn't respond, his slightly parted lips and shut eyes making me fear the worst.
"Is this the guy who was meant to be coming for you? Is this Tom?" Brian asked. I bit my lip and tried not to cry as I stared at the beautiful boy who I'd waited five years to see.
"It's him, y-yeah. Is...is he dead?" I forced myself to utter the bitter words.
"No, he's not." Caleb spoke. My eyes widened and I looked at him.
"What? He looks dead." I cried.
"Don't worry, Y/N, he's not. He obviously had to get through a river to get here because he's covered in leech marks. He would have had some serious hallucinations before passing out. I found him here five minutes ago. We'll get him inside, we'll get the leech venom out of him and then he'll be all good. He's going to be okay, Y/N." Brain reassured. I choked at his words, tears streaming down my face as I looked back at Tom.
"You hear that, Tommy? You're going to be okay." I smiled tightly at him, my hand tightly gripping his as the boys hauled him up and started to carry him towards the hatch.
I sat by Tom's bed, my hand tightly wrapped around his as I waited for him to wake up. It had been a day since we had found him unconscious outside of the bunker, and to say that I was relieved to have him here was a major understatement. We still had to get back yet, but we had a few days of Tom recovering before we had to think about that. I looked at him, my heart jumping as the boy started to stir. I gulped harshly as moans left his lips, his eyes squinting together slightly as he started to wake up. His eyes fluttered open, the gorgeous chocolate colour of them finally revealing themselves to me for the first time in five years. I'd never take looking into his eyes for granted again. His eyebrows furrowed, making me gulp as I watched to see what he would do. His gaze wandered around the room before landing on me. His eyes widened.
"Y/N...shit, is that really you?" he choked as he eased himself up onto his elbows.
"It's really me, Tommy. You made it!" I laughed and shook my head, making him return it as I took his face into my hands and leant down to smash our lips together. He returned the kiss, tears leaving our eyes and making the intimate moment slightly salty as he held my cheek with his hand. He broke the kiss and touched our foreheads, my eyes fluttering open to look into his beautiful orbs.
"I've waited five years to do that again." he whispered. I smiled and bit my lip, pecking his lips once more before I sat back in the chair and Tom lay down again in the bed.
"So have I. But, Jesus, you scared me." I gulped. His eyebrows furrowed.
"Why? What happened?" he asked. I looked at him.
"You don't remember? Apart from the fact that you were late and so I thought that you were dead, you were found unconscious in the forest surrounding us. You'd been badly bitten by leeches. You've been asleep for a day." I nodded. His eyes widened.
"Fuck, my family, I need to tell them that I'm okay." he gulped.
"I told them as soon as we got the venom out of you. Needless to say that they're very happy that you're alive, and they're ready to have you back soon." I chuckled. He returned it and bit his lip as he looked at me.
"You still up for coming back with me, sweetheart?" he mumbled softly.
"Would be a pointless journey for you if I wasn't." I teased, making him chuckle and nod. My smile dipped, my eyes wavering as I looked down.
"Tommy, if I'm being completely honest, the last five years have been torture for me. As you know, mum and dad died almost immediately and I never really clicked with anyone who came and went. All I had was you. And so whilst fear of you dying whilst trying to get me reached my core when you told me that you'd be coming here, I also felt overwhelming happiness and love for you. The fact that you were willing to risk your life to come and get me, and bring me back to your family, well. It secured my love for you and reassured me that you feel the same way. You coming here is my out. So, I'd be fucking stupid to let you come all of this way, to let you give me this chance, just to back out now." I nodded, tears leaving my eyes as I looked back up at the boy. He sighed and gave me a small smile before opening up his arms.
"Come here, love." he mumbled. I nodded and sniffed as I stood up and lay down next to him, his arms pulling me into his body as I rested my hand and head on his chest. I sighed in bliss, my heart feeling completely happy for the first time in five years as I cuddled into Tom and he gently kissed my head.
"I love you so much, sweetheart. And I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you. Even if it is in a bunker." he mumbled into my hair.
"I love you so much, too, Tommy. And it's okay. We can have a bunker wedding." I teased lightly, making him chuckle and nod.
"Try to sleep and rest now. We have a long next few days ahead of us." I muttered, Tom's gentle heartbeat against my ear making my eyelids start to grow heavy.
"Okay, love. Sleep well." he spoke equally as quiet, a breath leaving his lips as he also fell asleep. My body fell into sleep, my heart and mind fully happy for the first time since the world had ended as I fell asleep in the arms of my boyfriend and the love of my life. What I did to deserve him, I'd never know.
