Hidden gem (Mob boss!AU, Tom Holland)
Requested by _miedelas: Tom is a mob boss and Y/N is his girl. He wants to hide her but she doesn't want to be hidden anymore, so she flirts with his enemy to make him jealous.
Tom and I sat on the sofa, my legs over his lap and his hand gently massaging my thigh as we watched TV.
"Tommy, I'm bored." I huffed, making him chuckle as he looked at me.
"Yeah, love? What do you want to do?" He asked.
"It's Saturday night. We could go out to your club." I nodded. His smile dipped.
"No, we can't." He shook his head.
"Why not?" I groaned.
"Darling, we've been over this too many times." He sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose. I returned his sigh and bit my lip. Tom and I had been dating for a year now but you wouldn't know it from how we acted in public. Meaning that we didn't act like a couple in public. Tom was the leader of the Holland mob in Kingston, meaning that it was pretty dangerous for any rival mobs to know that I was his girlfriend, and so he kept me a secret from the world. I understood why he hid me, especially from other gang leaders, but that didn't make it any easier. And being hidden away constantly was starting to take its toll on me, and our relationship. Something had to change.
"I know that we've been over it, but I'm done being hidden away by you." I scoffed as I sat up properly.
"Sweetheart, I know that it's hard, but I do it to protect you. I can only guarantee your safety if I keep you here. When we started dating, you said that you were fine with me keeping you safe like this." he nodded.
"When you said 'you'll stay in the house', I didn't think that you literally meant every fucking day. Not to mention that I am allowed to change my mind, and I have changed my mind." I stated.
"Darling, please." he spoke as he turned to face me properly and took my hands into his. I gulped and looked at him, the glimmer in his eyes telling me that he was deadly serious about this. But so was I.
"These people are not to be messed around with. They want to get to me, and they know that hurting the person that I love is the perfect way to hit me hard. If they know about you and know my feelings for you, they won't stop until you're dead. I keep you hidden to keep you safe. I keep you hidden to keep you alive." he nodded. I looked at him, something suddenly not adding up in my head.
"Why didn't you keep past girlfriends hidden, then? Because I know that I'm your first girlfriend who's undergone this." I stated. His eyebrows furrowed.
"Y-yeah, because you're the first girlfriend who I really care about. Whose death would absolutely tear me apart." he shook his head. My eyes wavered, my heart dropping as I realised.
"Or because I'm the first one who you want to hide for some reason. The first one that you're embarrassed about, or ashamed of. Well, tough shit for you, because I've woken up. And I'm done hiding." I decided as I stood up and started to head towards our bedroom. Tom's eyes widened.
"What are you talking about?! Of course I don't want to hide you! I do it to protect you, love!" he exclaimed as he scrambled up from the sofa and rushed after me.
"I thought that at first too, Tom, but it's been a year and you still haven't gone public about our relationship. I don't want to hide anymore, so I'm going out to your club. What's the point in dating the owner if I can't enjoy it?" I mumbled, my gaze glued to my dresses as I rummaged through the wardrobe in search of something to wear.
"You're not going out, Y/N. That's final." he warned.
"What are you going to do, Tom? You going to physically stop me?" I nodded as I stared up at him. He returned the stare with a clenched jaw, his nostrils flaring and his hands balling into fists as he looked down at me.
"Think very carefully about this, darling. Once you step foot into my club, you can't hide anymore. You can't hide from other mobs anymore. Think about that." he practically growled. I gulped harshly, my heart starting to pound more. Because he was right. Once I went to his club, I was out and I couldn't hide. But I had also had a year of being Tom's secret. And I was ready to be free.
"I have thought about it." I nodded, making him clench his jaw again as I quickly got dressed before grabbing my clutch bag. I looked at him.
"Don't wait up." I smiled sarcastically as I leant up and pecked his lips, making him scoff and shake his head as I walked past him and out of our bedroom.
Tom's P.O.V
Tom sat in his booth in his club, a cigarette in between his lips as he surveyed the packed room. He looked to the bar and clenched his jaw as Y/N sat there, drinking and talking to some random girl. He sighed and looked down, feeling somewhat lucky that he had been planning to take a shift at the club tonight anyway so that he could keep an eye on his girlfriend. He loved her to bits, but the last thing that he had expected to happen on their relaxed Saturday night was that she'd suddenly turn around and say that she didn't want to be hidden anymore. Her feeling like that had been the last thing that he wanted, all he wanted was to keep her safe from his enemies. The issue was that the only way to fully achieve that was to keep her hidden and keep her away from everyone that could harm her. If Tom was completely honest with himself, he wasn't surprised that Y/N had eventually snapped, but it had still taken him somewhat by surprise. Tom snapped out of his thoughts as Harrison sat down opposite him in the booth.
"Updates." Tom demanded.
"Jones, Pritchard and Leon are here, all owe you money. You want the guys to take them out back?" Harrison asked. Tom sighed, his eyes flicking to Y/N as he put the cigarette back to his lips.
"No. Let them live for tonight. It's the first time that Y/N's been here since we started dating. I don't want any of their men to take revenge on me through her because we killed them. Fucking hell, why did she have to come here?" he sighed as he removed the cigarette and breathed the smoke out.
"In her defence, she's barely been anywhere relating to the mob in a year. I can understand why she got tired of being stuck in the house." he chuckled.
"So can I, but that's the only way that I can definitely keep her safe, to keep her away from mob stuff. Guess that I could only keep her away from that for so long." he mumbled.
"Looks like the mob world is getting a little closer to her too." Harrison commented. Tom's eyebrows furrowed and he looked over his shoulder to the bar again. His eyes widened, jealousy starting to bubble in his stomach as he saw Jacob Leon talking to Y/N and making her smile.
"What the fuck is she playing at?" he mumbled.
"Tom, they probably don't know who the other person is to you." Harrison reasoned.
"Bullshit. She knows what she's doing." he muttered before putting out his cigarette and standing up to put a stop to another mob leader flirting with his girl.
Y/N's P.O.V
I sat at the bar, my hand holding my drink as I looked around. I looked up and sighed as I could see Tom sitting in his booth, smoking and talking to Harrison. I bit my lip at him. Deep down, I knew that Tom had only kept me hidden in order to protect me, but he couldn't do that forever. And I had decided that enough was enough. He had conveniently taken a shift at the club anyway, presumably so that he could keep an eye on me. Not that I really cared, it was better than nothing.
"Hey, babe." I looked back down, a hesitant smile curling onto my lips as a guy leant against the bar next to me with a smirk on his lips.
"Hey there." I chuckled falsely.
"Can I buy you a drink? That one doesn't look colourful enough for someone as beautiful as you." he flirted. I tried not to wince at the shit line. After all, I did want to make Tom somewhat mad and jealous by flirting with another guy in his club.
"Sure, I could use a fresh one, especially if it's free." I returned. He smirked and winked at me, making me fake another smile as he waved his hand to the bartender.
"A rum and coke for me, and the most beautiful drink that you can make for this stunning woman." he continued to try and flatter me. It wasn't working, but I'd let him believe that it was as he looked back at me.
"I'm Jacob. I haven't seen you here before, what's your name?" he smiled.
"Yeah, I don't frequent this part of town. I'm Y/N." I nodded. His eyes widened slightly.
"Wait, as in...Tom Holland's girl, Y/N? You're Holland's girlfriend." he stated. My eyes wavered and I gulped, my heart starting to race at his words. Maybe I shouldn't have told him that.
"Y-yeah, that's, erm, that's me." I nodded, my stomach filling with nerves. I was now getting very glad that Tom had decided to come along too, because I didn't even know who this guy was but I knew that he felt like bad news.
"Holy shit. What's he been doing hiding you away all of this time? You're fucking gorgeous." he smirked as he stood up and moved closer to me.
"Protecting her from assholes like you." I sighed in relief, my eyes fluttering shut as Jacob looked over his shoulder to reveal Tom standing there. I could tell that my boyfriend was beyond angry at this situation, I just couldn't tell if it was at me or the guy hitting on me. Maybe it was both.
"What the fuck do you think that you're doing here, Leon? You have some fucking nerve not only to show your face at my club when you owe me money, but then to hit on my girl too." he spat.
"You may be too much of a pussy to go into rival clubs, but I'm not. As for your girl, well, what can I say? If I see such a hot piece of ass, I make it my mission to get into her pants-." he got cut off by Tom swinging his fist as hard as he could into his face, making my eyes widen.
"Tommy!" I exclaimed, Jacob falling to the ground as I got in between them and pushed Tom back.
"Don't you dare, you're in a world of trouble too. We're going home." he nodded as he grabbed my hand.
"Tom-."
"Now." he demanded. I gulped and nodded, knowing that I wasn't in a position to argue with him as he pulled me out of the club and to his car.
Tom stormed into the house, me timidly following in after him as he immediately went for the kitchen. I gulped and fiddled with my fingers as he threw the fridge open and grabbed a beer before slamming the door shut.
"Tom-."
"Don't even." he scoffed and shook his head as he opened the beer and took a large swig of it.
"Let me speak-."
"No, darling, your time to speak is over. I fucking told you that this would happen. I warned you that other rivals would start paying attention and what happened?! My biggest fucking enemy hit on you!" he shouted.
"What else was I supposed to do?! Let you keep me prisoner for the rest of our lives?!" I shouted back. Tom's eyes widened, his face immediately dropping as I said that. I gulped and looked down, tears pricking my eyes. The last thing that I had wanted when I went out was for tonight to end in a fight, but it looked like that was where it was going.
"That's what you think? You think that I keep your prisoner?" he asked quietly. I bit my lip and looked back up at him, making his face drop even further as he saw the tear rolling down my face.
"Sweetheart." he sighed. I gave him a small smile.
"I love you, Tommy, and I know that you love me too. I know that that's why you wanted to keep me hidden. I know that you do it out of love. But we've dated for a year, and most of your mob still don't even know that I exist. Your family and Harrison know about me, that's it. And sometimes I can't help but think that that's not because you're keeping me safe, but because you're embarrassed of me. You want me to be nothing more than your secret. I don't know what happened tonight, but I just snapped. I'm tired of being your hidden secret, Tommy. I can't do it anymore." I choked and shook my head. He sighed and nodded, his lips giving me a small smile as he put his beer down and walked around the island. He curled his arms around my waist and nuzzled his face into my neck, making me gulp and try not to cry more as I returned the hug.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart. I had no idea that you felt like that, and I didn't mean to make it like that for you. I mean it from the bottom of my heart that my intentions have always been to keep you safe. I never meant to make you feel like a prisoner in your own home, and I'm so sorry that I did. I'll fix this, love, I promise." he mumbled into my hair. I sighed and looked up at him.
"There's nothing to fix, Tommy. I just need more freedom. I appreciate the fact that you only want me to be safe, but I won't be a prisoner. You don't need to fix anything, you just need to let me go a little. Can you do that?" I asked. He bit his lip and looked at me as he raised his hand to gently tuck a strand of hair behind my ear.
"If it means that I don't lose you, then yes, I can do that. I'll just have to figure out a way to do that and also keep you safe, but I'll work it out." he nodded.
"Thank you, Tommy. I appreciate you making an effort." I spoke.
"Anything for you, my love." he smiled, making me return it as he leant down and pressed our lips together. I returned the kiss, my hands holding his face and pulling him closer as he held my waist. He broke the kiss and joined our foreheads as we looked at each other.
"You'll no longer be hidden, sweetheart. I promise." he reassured. I nodded and gave him a small smile, making him return it as he leant down and kissed me again.
