Cuts and bruises (Soulmates!AU, Peter Parker)

Requested by pennywinkle0112: Peter and Y/N have always been enemies. So when they find out that they're soulmates, they can't stand the idea. Soon enough, though, they realise that they're in love with each other and get jealous when one flirts with someone else.

"For fucks' sake." I groaned, my eyes glued to my face in the school bathroom's mirror as I stared at the deep purple bruising around my eye.

"And you say that it only appeared this morning?" MJ asked as she stood next to me, my hands frantically plowing through my makeup bag as I tried to find my foundation and concealer to cover up the bruising.

"Literally just this morning. I woke up late and so just got dressed and rushed out. Didn't have time to look in a mirror." I grumbled.

"Um...I hate to make your already shitty day even worse, but Peter has that exact same bruise too." MJ stated. My eyes widened and I looked at her through the mirror.

"No." I scoffed. She nodded, making me groan and look down. In our lives, we had soulmates. Not in theory, not in idea, everyone was literally born to be with someone else. The tell-tale sign that someone was your soulmate was that if they got hurt, the exact same injury in the same place as your soulmate had would appear on you too, and vice versa. And so the fact that Peter Parker had a bruise in the exact same place as me wasn't good, as it suggested that he was my soulmate. This wouldn't be a problem if it was only his looks to take into account. After all, I wouldn't lie and say that Peter was ugly, he was very attractive on the surface of things. But underneath that, he was a dick. Peter Parker was a know-it-all nerd who relished the feeling of answering any questions right that I had gotten wrong seconds before him. He loved the feeling of being right when I was wrong, and he'd always been like that. The problem with that was that I'd always had a bit of a crush on him. I wasn't sure if it was purely down to his looks, all I knew was that whenever he smiled, I felt my heart warm up. Whenever he laughed, the sound ran through me and just made me feel happier. Which is why it was a problem that we supposedly hated each other, and why it was shit that we were potentially soulmates.

"Yes. He's out there right now, at his locker, with a bruise identical to that. I know that you hate him, and so I know that this will suck to hear, but I think that he's your soulmate." MJ nodded. I sighed, my eyes glued to the bathroom sink as tears pricked my eyes. Only I could be unlucky enough to have my enemy be my soulmate.

"Fuck. I have to talk to him, don't I?" I groaned and looked back up at her. She nodded and bit her lip, making me sigh as I grabbed my makeup bag and shoved it back into my main bag.

"No point in covering it up if I'm just going to show Parker it." I mumbled, making MJ chuckle and nod as I left the bathroom.

I walked along the hall, my bag slung over my shoulder as I walked. My eyes wavered as I saw Peter at his locker down the hall. Sure enough, his left eye was also circled with a deep purple and blue bruise. Fuck, I thought as I stared at the boy. I guessed that I had to confront him now. After all, we had classes together all day and I had decided against covering up the bruise on my face, and so he'd see soon enough that we had identical bruises. I walked up to him, his focus still on Ned and whatever he was putting in his locker.

"Hey, Parker." I spoke, making him look at me. His eyes widened, his Adam's apple bobbing as he saw my face.

"Oh, fuck." he mumbled as I walked towards him.

"We need to talk. Now." I demanded.

"Yeah, no shit." he scoffed, making butterflies explode in my stomach as he took my hand and led me into an empty classroom. He shut the door behind him and turned to face me.

"How did you get that black eye?" he gulped.

"It appeared for me this morning. What about you?" I questioned back.

"Fuck...I got it last night." he admitted quietly.

"Doing what?" I scoffed. He gulped and looked at me, his eyes wavering as they wandered away from me.

"T-that doesn't matter. What does matter, is that we appear to be soulmates." he nodded. I returned it and bit my lip.

"What do we do now, then? Because I don't know about you, but I don't want to be with you, but I guess that we don't have a choice." I lied with a scoff. Peter's eyes wavered at that comment, making my eyebrows furrow. Why would me saying that upset him, especially if he hated me like he said that he did?

"N-no, I don't want to be with you either. How about we just forget that this ever happened, and, I don't know, act like we're not each other's soulmates?" he shrugged. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Peter, you do know what 'soulmates' mean, right? It means that we never get anyone else. If we choose to ignore this and move on with our lives, that's it. If we walk away from each other, we don't get another chance." I shook my head, tears pricking my eyes as my mind was desperate for Peter to let go of our supposed hatred for each other and choose us being soulmates instead.

"I guess that we just don't get another chance then." he mumbled. I looked at him, my eyes widening slightly and my heart almost stopping at his words. Was his hatred for me so strong that he was going to deny me as his only soulmate? Apparently, the answer was yes.

"Peter-."

"I'm sorry, but no. I don't care if we're apparently soulmates, Y/N. We don't like each other, we hate each other, and I'm not sure that that'll ever change. You're not my soulmate, you can't be." he choked and shook his head. I bit my lip, my eyes wavering as I desperately tried not to cry.

"Peter, you're seeing the same thing that I am. You're seeing that we both have a black eye, in the exact placing, time and colours as each other. The chances of that being anything other than what we think it is are low. Please don't let your hatred for me blind you to that." I shook my head as a tear rolled down my face. Peter's face softened and he sighed as he saw the tear.

"I'm sorry, Y/N." he mumbled, making my eyes widen as he opened the door and slipped back out of the classroom. I stood there, my eyes wide and my mouth hanging open as I just stared at the door. I knew that Peter disliked me, but I had no idea that he hated me enough to deny both of us our soulmates. I looked down, tears pricking my eyes as my heart shattered. All we were ever taught in life was that once we met our soulmate, that'd be us sorted for life, we'd be happy. No one ever told you what happened if your soulmate didn't want you. I gulped, my heart in my throat as I took a deep breath and left the classroom again.

Peter's P.O.V

Peter stood in the living room of the house that the party was being held in, a beer in his hand as he just watched the crowd of already drunk and dancing teenagers. It had been a week since he'd found out that Y/N was his soulmate and so had rejected her, and he'd felt like utter shit since. Looking back he wasn't entirely sure why he had rejected her, or why he even supposedly hated her. After all, he'd used the guise of hating her this entire time to cover up the fact that he actually really fucking liked her. Peter knew that it was such a bullshit cliche, but here he was regardless. When he'd seen the bruise on Y/N's face matching his own, he'd secretly been over the moon. But then the dread over the fact that the girl hated him had started to set in. Peter didn't know what else to do but reject her. Over the week, the idea that they were soulmates only got solidified by the fact that Peter hadn't stopped thinking about the girl. He'd sit behind her in class, his chin rested on his palm as he stared at her and admired how gorgeous her smile was. He'd hear her laugh and his heart would leap at the sound of it. Peter knew that supposedly, you started to notice the small things about your soulmate after you knew that they were your soulmate, and that matched up to what he was feeling. Which made it all the more fucked that he'd rejected her. He looked to the side and gave Ned a small smile as he walked towards him.

"You okay, bro? You look sad." Ned stated, making Peter sigh and shake his head.

"I just can't stop thinking about her." he admitted quietly. Ned nodded and gave him a sympathetic smile.

"Maybe tonight, you'll get the chance to make it right. I mean, she's coming to the party too, take the chance." Ned encouraged.

"Ned, I effectively told her that I'd rather die alone than have her as my soulmate. How the fuck do I come back from that?" he scoffed.

"Well you've got no chance if you don't even talk to her." Ned shrugged. Peter sighed and nodded as his gaze drifted towards the front door of the house. His eyes wavered, his heart leaping as Y/N walked into the party with MJ. Fuck, she looked absolutely stunning. She was wearing a purple bodycon dress that hugged her perfectly, her dark makeup and curled hair making her look breathtaking. Peter was in love. His eyes widened slightly, his jaw clenching out of jealousy as the host of the party walked towards Y/N and put his hand on her waist.

"What the fuck is he doing?" he scoffed as Y/N hesitantly smiled at the action.

"Peter, I'm sorry, but you don't have a right to be jealous. You rejected her, dude, you're not dating her." Ned reminded him. He sighed and clenched his jaw, the butterflies of jealousy too strong to ignore.

"Well, I think it's time that I change that, then." he nodded before starting to head over to them.

Y/N's P.O.V

I walked along the street with MJ, my heels clicking against the concrete as we walked to the house party that we'd been invited to. The last week had been utter fucking hell considering that it'd started with me finding out that Peter was my soulmate, and then promptly being rejected by him. MJ had been trying her best to make me feel better all week, but to little avail. My heart was broken and I didn't know what to do. The guy that was literally made for me, didn't want me back. And I had to live with that.

"You okay?" MJ's voice pulled me from my thoughts, making me look at her.

"I just can't stop thinking about him." I admitted. She sighed and nodded.

"Yeah. That tends to happen when your soulmate rejects you." she spoke.

"I mean...what do I do? All they tell you is that meeting your soulmate is when your life begins, you'll never be sad again once you meet them. But they don't tell you what to do if this happens. They don't tell you what to do if it doesn't go the way that it's supposed to." I choked.

"Hey, hey, come on, don't be crying over a boy, you'll ruin your amazing makeup before we even get to the party." she chuckled in an attempt to cheer me up as she wrapped her arm around my shoulder.

"Peter isn't just a boy anymore, though. He's my soulmate." I shook my head.

"I know, babe, but he's made his bed. I know that it hurts, but it's going to be okay. You having found your soulmate doesn't mean that you won't be able to find other people out there. It'll be okay, your options aren't suddenly gone because Peter's a dick." she nodded, making me chuckle and bite my lip.

"Now, we're going to go to Max's party, you're going to walk in with your head held high, and you're going to enjoy yourself like the fucking queen that you are." she stated, making me laugh and look at her.

"That sounds like a good plan. Thank you, MJ." I nodded.

"Any time, babe. Now, come on, we're almost there." she reassured, making me nod again as we continued to walk.

We walked into the house that the party was being thrown in, the vibrations of the music being felt in my chest as the stench of cheap beer filled my nose.

"Remind me why we came here again?!" I yelled to MJ over the music.

"Because you needed a night out away from Peter, so here we are!" she shouted. I chuckled and bit my lip as Max, the host, pushed his way through the crowd to us.

"Y/N, hey! It's great that you came!" he laughed as he got to us, my eyes widening slightly as he put his hand on my waist.

"Yeah, I'm here too." MJ smiled at him sarcastically.

"Whatever, yeah, so, Y/N, you fancy a dance with me, later?" he smiled. I chuckled nervously, my brain trying to figure out a way not to end up dancing with Max.

"I'm good, thanks." I smiled and shook my head.

"Oh, come on, I am the host, one dance won't kill you-."

"Sorry to barge in, but can I have a word, Y/N?" my eyes widened as Peter appeared next to Max, making my heart jump as I looked at him. Fuck, he looked good. But he had also rejected me a week ago, and so I still wasn't all that keen to be alone with him.

"No, you can't-."

"Yes, you can." MJ cut me off, making my eyes widen at her as she pushed me towards Peter.

"MJ?!" I exclaimed.

"You'll thank me later. Take her, Parker, sorry, Max." she smiled sarcastically at him. I sighed as Peter gently took my hand into his before pulling me up the stairs. He opened a random door and checked that the bedroom was empty before pulling me in and shutting the door behind him.

"What's so important that you just had to talk to me now?" I sighed, crossing my arms over my chest as I turned around to face him. He gulped harshly, his eyes wavering as he looked at me.

"I fucked up." he admitted. My eyes widened slightly and I dropped my arms.

"What?" I gulped. He nodded and walked towards me, making my breath hitch as he took my hands into his.

"I fucked up when I rejected you. The truth is so fucking stupid, but I feel like I owe you it. I've liked you for years, but I thought that you hated me and so it felt like the easiest way to protect myself from getting hurt was to pretend to hate you back. And so when I saw the bruise on your face, I was super happy but also really fucking terrified. I was happy because I fucking love you, and so it was basically my dream come true for you to be my soulmate. But then I was terrified because you thought that I hated you, and you hate me, so I didn't know how it would work, and so that's why I rejected you, but I'm so sorry for doing that because I regretted it immediately." he rambled before stopping. I stared at him with wide eyes, my mouth hanging open as I tried to process what he'd said. He'd never hated me at all, this entire time, he'd ironically been doing exactly what I'd done to him.

"Peter, I did the same thing. I never hated you, I only pretended to hate you because I thought that you hated me." I scoffed and shook my head. His eyes widened.

"Wow. We both fucked up, huh." he chuckled, making me return it and bite my lip. He looked at me.

"So...what happens now? Because we've just admitted to liking each other, and we are kind of soulmates." he nodded, making me chuckle as he curled his arms around my waist and pulled me into his body as I rested my hands on his chest. I looked at him.

"Well, I love you too, Pete. So, I'd love to be your girlfriend, if you'll have me." I smiled.

"Of course I'll have you, babe." he nodded, making me smile widen as he leant down and kissed me. I returned it, my eyes fluttering shut and my heart virtually stopping as we kissed. This was it. This was the exact moment that I'd waited seventeen years for, and it was beyond perfect. Peter broke the kiss but kept his lips hovering over mine, our eyes fluttering open to look at each other.

"I love you, Y/N." he nodded, his voice quiet.

"I love you too, Pete." I whispered in return. He smiled and bit his lip, making me return it as he leant down and kissed me again.
