Sleeping beauty
Emunah had not still recovered her loss of memory, so before getting to the village, I wanted to bring her to the cave of beginnings. The road we had walked was long and we accomplished our task, but we needed to come back united.
Once reached the cave, I lead the way as she had done before. She was surprised and she didn't recognize the place. We reached the farthest part in the ground and we stood in the middle of the cave, watching the painting on the rock walls. While meditating on the pictures, a phrase told by Uram came to my mind.
"Even if the moon reflects on the water, it stays up in the sky"
I was trying to understand it, but with no results. Emunah was watching carefully all the scenes represented with ink took from the berries of some plants mixed with other flower parts.
"I don't understand. What is the meaning of all of this?" she asked.
I didn't know what to answer because I had to make her memory come back, so I couldn't fail. She was staring at me like a child waiting for a candy. My face was worried and I needed to find a solution fast.
"So? What does these scenes refer to?" She asked without patience.
All of a sudden I remembered a story told by the fire the first week in the settlement. It talked about a boy monk in Tibet who wanted to have all the answers and all the teachings fast. One day he started asking questions like:
"How can I be come illuminated? What's the nature of the mind? What's after death? "
The master monk patiently answered
"If you discover the nature of the mind you become illuminated and you will find out what's after death"
"How can I do that?" Insisted the boy.
The master smiled and then hit him on the forehead with the book he was reading: Alice in wonderland. The boy was woken up not by the hurt, but by the surprise of that move apparently with no sense. He discovered the nature of the mind and got rid of all the illusions.
The same way I needed something surprisingly stunning. I just leaned forward and kissed Emunah on her mouth. I closed my eyes and when they were open again I saw hers, wide open and full of surprise. She kissed me back closing her eyes.
"Thanks" she said "I finally remember everything, let's go home now"
Finally we spotted the place. We left two weeks earlier and the smoke coming from the center of the village was the sign our adventure was finally over. Once reached the camp, everybody cheered and welcomed us. Ashley was so happy, she started crying for the joy while she was hugging me. John come closer and shook my hand with a smile seeing. I was alright and I made it back safe and sound.
Even Emunah's friends were greeting her and asking her endless questions. In the following days I could catch up everything I missed in the camp. Ashley and John asked me about what I learned during that time. I explained to them I managed to make it back thanks to lucid dreams . John had became more and more expert until the point he could heal parts of the body or meditate in dream state. We had long talks about that and he told me how he had been foolish for thinking to save people making their lives longer instead of getting them prepared to death. He said that it was the only possibly way to reach salvation. During this time meditating, he decided he wanted to change his entire life and dedicate himself to the teaching of lucid dreaming all around the world.
"More conscious, more aware and more kind" he said at last.
So the world would had been a nicer place to live in. I spent time with Ashley who had faced her fears since I left the camp. She had asked Mara how to conquer her sadness and her incapability to stand pain and death. In that moment Mara agreed to teach her everything she knew.
"When there are no questions, there should be no answers" She told her. "I have been waiting for you to become curious about all you could not see" she added.
"The only way to conquer your fears is helping someone conquering the same fear, starting now"
From that moment on she started taking care of ill people or old men dying. At first she found it hard but then, she was getting more confident as the time went by. The keys to succeed were in compassion, truth and understanding. People dying wanted her to be sincere with them, having a little humor without hurting them. Before the moment of their last breath, they didn't want to be pitied but loved and they preferred others to listen truly what they had to say.
Ashley recognized she had grown up a lot during that time and once conquered her fear, she felt like a butterfly. She had been in the cocoon, in darkness a lot of time, but now getting rid of the previous form, she grew wings on her back.
Her smile was stronger, her eyes wider and her words kinder. She had spent amazing experiences during that time, but she couldn't find something to do with it, somewhere to fit. She stayed much time with me talking and I could tell her about the cave of beginnings and all Emunah taught me. She was amazed about all the things I've learned at first and then she was a little bit jealous because, after a while, she didn't want to hear my teacher name no more.
I had seen everybody except Tov, who was meditating and he needed time alone in silence. Mara assured me that he would have appeared once he knew that it' d have been the right moment.
I even finished my training with Uram and Tiferet, who wanted to share their best stories or knowledge about the forest and the life everywhere around.
Two days later a feast was organized in no time and all the best food was cooked and served. Mara came to talk to me and Emunah and she was really pleased we made it back in one piece.
All the children and Uram were already dancing and celebrating our return, we waved at them and the little ones came to our knees and wanted to touch my hand or hear some stories from my trip.
"Enough children let him rest a while, he's been traveling far and he needs some quiet moment" said a voice behind my back.
With one hand placed on a tree and the other holding a stick, still wearing the same mask , Tov was standing with a huge smile.
"You made it in the end, I am proud of you. When the feast will be over come to me, I have something to show you"
After he said that, he walked slowly back between the trees and he disappeared in the dark. Typical of him, I smiled thinking that I've missed him too. I would have remembered that night forever. We ate wonderful foods and all kind of fruits. People were drinking weird liquids and then the music began. I danced like a fool until I was exhausted. I danced alone and with the rest of the people at the same time. Ashley was in front of me and we were so tuned one with the other that the movement of our bodies were almost the same. Emunah and Uram joined us while Mara, John and the elders of the village were clapping hands and singing. After many hours of crazy dances Mara stood up and with the gesture of her hand quieted the music.
"The season of rains is finally over!" she cried "Now we can say goodbye to our friends who may go home to their families or may be welcomed once again if they decide to stay or return"
Then she turned towards me and whispered
"Tov is waiting for you" I nodded and left everybody behind me to reach to hut between the leaves.
