Mountain top

Finally we made it to the top and the place we ended up was very desolate. It was cold and there was no vegetation except for some plants that were enough brave to reach that point.

Looking down I could see all the way that brought us up there. The forest, the plain , the lake. As I was staring at the view all that happened during that travel came to my mind and I could imagine every scene. It was like the man who started the journey died and the man I was in that moment was just born, completely new, filled up with wisdom.

"What should we do here exactly?" asked Emunah

"We need to find the eagle nest and collect one feather." I answered grabbing and moving my own arms to keep the heat inside my body.

We started looking around until we saw a giant figure in the sky approaching. We bent over and we hid behind a huge rock. Emunah put one finger before her mouth and the other pointing at the enormous creature hoovering over her nest few meters below, a giant eagle. She was a mother taking care of her little ones. That vision gave me tears of joy. I was always told about the love of a mother but I never lived personally because I had lost mine.

The eagle was not standing nor flying, but levitating to nurture the little ones. Her love and care was in the special effort of her wings that held the  heavy body up in the air. I stared at that scene for a moment that lasted some seconds, but in my mind was more than few moments.

After that, the majestic creature left to find some more food.

"That's the right moment" I whispered to Emunah's ear as I jumped on the rock below.

To get up there I climbed a wall of rocks and with a lot of effort, but when I made it I felt wonderful.

Few more jumps and I reached the nest where little birds were screaming furiously lifting their heads. I grabbed a feather and put it in my satchel.

Meanwhile Emunah reached me and standing beside me, she was staring in the distance.

"What do you see?" I asked.

She didn't reply but she pointed her finger in front of her. I turned and I saw a giant cloud just above the forest. In a few moments I realized that what we were witnessing was  smoke.

"The trees are burning down" she said "there is a massive fire right there, I have never seen such thing."

"That is man work, nature can't do such damage all at once." I added. "Igni natura renovantur integra" she said.

"What did you say?" I asked alarmed "What does it mean?"

"I don't know" she replied "Something that came from before I guess" "Do you remember more?" I asked.

She thought a while, then she answered.

"It means that the fire renews nature completely"

Some of the lost memories were coming out very slowly and she was starting to say things she didn't remember where they were coming from. That place was dangerous and we needed to head back. I took Emunah by her arm and carried her away.

"Look!" she cried "Those right there! These are machines!"

We could see tiny iron spiders moving just on the other side of the fire removing the ashes and cleaning the area.

"There is no time to lose! We must go back and warn the village"

We started walking down the mountain very fast and silently. The valley seemed split into two. One side the so called civilization, on the other hand the village that Tov and Mara were raising with the respect for nature and every sentient being.

The tribe went deep inside the forest to lose touch with others humans, but it wasn't enough because they managed to reach this forgotten place.

It was scary how humankind could be so different depending by the experience and the ideas he was taught. Tov was an idealist who studied a lot and made his own way through challenges and difficulties.

The men cutting down and burning the forest seemed to be just slaves of the society who couldn't think for themselves and they would have obeyed to every order.

During history it happened many times that when thare was power and a leader people instead of thinking with their own head would easily follow the one who shouted higher withing paying attention at the costs it would bring.

An example was what happened in Japan with the atomic bomb.

I've never realized these things so deeply . It was very funny and honest in a certain kind of way what Tov had said in the beginning.

"I am an outlaw , I am not civilized and I have no more connection with the world we once shared"

Now I could understand what he was talking about. He wanted to be set apart by those who were trying to destroy our world and make the difference he wished to see in it. My thoughts were completely clear once Uram wisdom came back to my mind.

"Those who are balanced have no need to harm anyone and live in peace, but those who can't find balance are recognized by the destruction, they leave behind them"

I was still shocked and Emunah was too. Just once the moon was high and bright, we stopped to rest. We had no strength left and sharing our thoughts on our past events, we prepared a simple dinner and a place to lay.

"What can we do now?" asked Emunah perplexed.

"I don't know."

I replied shaking my head

"First we need to go back and then Mara and Tov will find out a solution, I am sure. You don't need to worry."

She smiled in forced way and then we both fell asleep to the sound of the wood, cracking under the heat of the fire.

Just the following morning I realized that the last places we have been were exactly showed on the Book of change as two hexagrams made by the trigram of the mountain and the lake. On the way up they were disposed in a way and on the way down they changed their order and their meaning.
