Forgive and forget

The following days were very hard. Our roles switched and I became the teacher while Emunah was the apprentice. I could understand just now how hard it was to teach to somebody who doesn't make the effort to understand you or it's not even interested. Just make her follow me up the mountain was hard and then, when she found out that we were eating day by day, she didn't want to walk no more. She was very weakened "Are you crazy? Why are we doing that?" she asked.

I could have answered like she taught me about this way of surviving but it would have been useless, so I used the same words she once told me. I couldn't be angry with her because she was scared like a child who had lost his parents. I was kind and I tried to motivate her, but I didn't know how to make her memories come back or how to reach the peak of the mountain. At the same time I couldn't show myself weak or doubtful. It was quite a challenge. The more  moments passed, the more she trusted me though.

We walked randomly for a while until we reached a giant plain of grass surrounded by the trees. Without Emunah's directions I didn't know which path to take to get to the eagle's nest. We sat exhausted in the middle of the plain and we fell asleep.

When we woke up, we saw a woman running around and looking for something in the grass, like she had lost something. We got closer to her and she waved towards us. It was very weird to see somebody out there in the wilderness and I expected nobody to roam around that forgotten place.

"Would you help me please?" She asked without looking at us, bent on the ground with a satchel on her back.

"Of course" said Emunah, kind.

"What do we need to do? Are you looking for something lost?"

I couldn't believe how easily she trusted that woman and they start moving the tall grass together.

"See?" said the woman, picking a grasshopper before he could jump "Many things are lost and I need to find them back" she said showing the insect that tried to escape from her grasp.

It sounded crazy, but I was so tired that I lowed down my guard and thinking that it couldn't get worse. I started walking like a baby on my knees to catch the insects hidden in that endless green sea.

Later on she invited us to her refuge. It was very simple, made of wood and stones. The woman was wearing clothes similar to ours and a yellow scarf was hang next to the fire. Needless to say she came from the same village from where we left.

"Why are you here alone? Have you been sent away?"

"I left" she replied with a smile.

"What happened? What is your name?" asked Emunah curious.

"They used to call me in many ways and some of them I don't remember. I came here to serve and become a beekeeper"

"Serve?" I asked "Serve who?"

"Well, serve everyone and everything. It means that I detach from the world to come back with more insight and knowledge. In order to do this, I need to connect with the part of myself that is more than human" she replied.

"I wanted to understand the bees and make new discoveries to share with the whole tribe, so I took the yellow scarf and moved here to gain knowledge. The times were good at first but now bees are acting strange and their number is decreasing. I've been living eating locusts and wild honey for so much time that I don't remember. Here time almost stopped and the world as we know is almost finished. Yet I am not ready for my way back. I can't abandon this place. I need to stay to take care of the last bees that survived. Please tell me, how are my friends Tov and Mara?"

Emunah looked at me waiting for the answer and I remembered she had lost her memories.

"They are doing great" I answered fast looking towards her and smiling. "What's wrong with her?" the woman asked

"I've lost my memories and I remember nothing. I don't know who I am. Can you help me?" replied Emunah.

"That's a good point to start dear, you have the void" she said "Don't worry about your memories, they will come back. They are not lost, just hidden like the locusts. You can see the grass as it really is now, the true nature of the little green spears. You came back like you were born again and you need to learn everything from the beginning. There is no learning, just remembering like in this life or the lives before or after" After saying that, she turned to me and said.

"Do you know the teaching of this tribe right? Those teaching with the right dose of love and understanding may help her regain her knowledge of herself through her lifetimes. I can't tell you more. The rest is up to you to find"

She was a very weird woman talking in symbols and riddles and she didn't want to talk more than she had already spoken.

That night she hosted us in her small hideout.

Tov explained later on that this woman came with them in the first place and for that reason being separate from them since almost the beginning she couldn't know Emunah, but she recognized where she came from.
