Third Person POV
It's past midnight, really late at night as you were sleeping on the couch in your living room after waiting for Kakucho to go home from his office.
You and Kakucho has been married for almost three years, and you both agreed to not have a baby for a while, deciding to when you're finally ready.
After a year after you both are married to each other, Kakucho immediately quits the dangerous life of being in a gang, signed off a contract, moved in a far place away from them, and broke contacts with anyone affiliated with gangs or any illegal organization that can harm you and your future baby with him.
It was difficult for Kakucho, but it was the best choice and he makes you secure that it's not your fault and every choice you both made was perfect, and even your relationship with him is perfect... yet until your husband started to get busy with his business, he was indeed a busy man you both spend less time together now, he began to get a little cold, just not the same Kakucho anymore, and of course, as his wife, you can't help but to overthink and sometimes get melancholy about it.
Every day he's always away, far from home, and sometimes during weekends, he would have business meetings and be busy doing office works even when he's home in your shared house.
And this is where you ended, sleeping on the couch after waiting for your husband to get home for more than five hours after you cooked dinner for him since you decided to make this night a special night for him for working too hard on his office and winning another proposal, business purposes something, but the food on the dining table is probably cold in now.
After some minutes, the door opened which startled you awake, your eyes fluttered open as you sat up and saw Kakucho walking in.
Your mouth immediately formed a welcoming smile, but you still felt sadness.
"Welcome home, Kakucho! Why are you late today?" You asked as you stood up from the couch and walk to the dining table. "I cooked dinner for you, but it's probably cold now... I'll just heat the—"
"It's fine, I already ate at the office." Kakucho replied with a tired tone.
"O-Oh well..." You scratched the back of your head.
"Why are you still awake?" Kakucho asked.
"I was waiting for you."
"I told you many times Y/n," Kakucho sighed once again as he placed his briefcase and removed his tie and blazer. "Just sleep already, don't wait for me to go home, you know how I'm always busy."
"But I was planning to have dinner with you though..." You replied, voice getting a little low and a whisper as you notice him getting a little frustrated, seemed a little stressed.
"I'm sorry, we'll get dinner on other days again, okay?" He said, trying to calm himself.
"Kakucho—"
"What?" He replied with a frustrated stern tone that caught you off guard.
"Do you regret leaving those gangs and marry with me?"
Kakucho stopped in his track and looked at you with a raised brow, "What do you mean?"
"I-I just noticed, since you left that group and started working in a different life, you just— you just changed, Kakucho," You said, swallowing the lump on your throat.
"It just doesn't feel the same way anymore, I'm getting tired as well." You replied.
"You think I don't get tired as well?" He replied.
"Of course I do! This is why I cook you dinner every damn time and I'm still here waiting for you every day." You said, raising your voice a little as you started to get hurt from his responses.
"Yet that's not what I fucking want, Y/n!" Kakucho replied with the same tone. "Plus what the hell are you talking about getting tired, me regretting to marry with you and shit? Y/n, those things never bothered in my mind!"
"Then what do you want?!" You shouted.
"To leave me alone."
"What? Okay then—"
"Don't ever make me regret marrying you." Kakucho replied with a cold tone.
That, those fucking words shattered your heart in just a second, and tears fell from your eyes as you can't hold them back anymore.
"Fine then, if that's what you want." You replied with a cracked voice and walked away.
You entered your shared bedroom with your husband and laid on your bed. You try to blink your tears away but it was no use, the words he said kept on lingering on your mind, and it brings you to tears and sorrow.
After hours, you still didn't see Kakucho enter your shared bedroom, and there, you lost hope.
"Don't ever make me regret marrying you."
It kept on replaying in your head, and thoughts began to bother your mind.
"Is it time to just... end it all?"
Morning came as you went out of the room as soon as you woke up, and you were once again faced with an empty house. The atmosphere was as strange as it had always been, and it didn't feel right, but you kept telling yourself to simply... get used to it.
You sighed and breathed heavily as you try to blink your eyes, fuck you didn't want to cry again.
You looked at the living room and saw a pillow and a folded blanket sitting on the couch.
"So, he slept here, huh?" You sighed and walked to the kitchen to cook your breakfast.
Night came in easily, and another day passed by without Kakucho.
Feeling tired, you went to your shared bed room and laid there, you checked your phone and you can't help but form a melancholic smile when you saw Kakucho and you in your wallpaper.
Sighing to yourself, you went through your photos on your phone and found ones of you and Kakucho, yet of course, they were from years ago, where you two were still laughing and having fun, a genuine smile plastered on both of your faces, overwhelming looks from each other, just two happy couples.
You miss the days where you two were close to each other, there are some times where you wish you can go back in time, back to those times where... you never felt insecure of yourself and your relationship with your husband.
At least it was fun while it lasted.
As you were too busy looking at the photos, you didn't notice the tears escaping from your eyes while you were smiling on the screen.
And with that, another night of crying yourself to sleep... again.
Another morning came, and days have passed since your last argument and conversation with Kakucho.
Honestly, you were getting used to him not being by your side anymore.
Yet you still felt sadness, and you were trying your hardest to distract yourself such as calling with your friends, baking, and watching movies.
And here you are, sitting on the couch, popcorn in your hand and blankets covering your whole body as you were watching a horror movie, all alone.
The fact that you were so sad you decided to challenge yourself watching a horror movie alone, couldn't be Y/n.
"Oh my gosh." You jolted in your seat and popcorn fell as a jumpscare came in, you forgot you were on full volume and your neighbors probably woke up from that suspense.
"You know what, never mind." You groaned as you quickly grabbed the remote and switched it into a different movie, a less scary, possibly a romance.
Hours have passed and you fell asleep on the couch while the TV is still on, and the movie continuing.
And there, the door opened and Kakucho entered.
He furrowed his brows in confusion as he heard noises in the living room. Kakucho walked in and saw you laying on the sofa with bunch of large pillows all over you, yet the blanket was on the floor. And you're hugging your popcorn in your arms like a teddy bear.
Kakucho placed his bags on the floor and removed his blazer, he then walked to the couch and sat next to you. He slowly removed the large giant pillows towering you and went in the room to pick a new blanket, he then went back on the living room and carefully placed the blanket on you while slowly removing the popcorn.
Your husband saw your rested sleeping face, and as well as the dried tears on your cheeks, oh how his heart softened in an instant, like a large boulder forming on his chest. He brings some strands of hair behind your ear and he felt a sense of regret and sadness, the regret where he should've been more understanding as your husband, he was well aware of how the thought of "ending it all" went into your mind, and Kakucho can't bear to hear those words directly from you, he loves you truly as his wife, and he did everything to get you to love him. Quitting a dangerous gang and leaving that life? Moving far away and forcing his self to quit smoking, drinking, and smoking, just for your family.
Those times where he would skip meetings just to see you, those letters he wrote you, the gifts he gave you, the time and comfort you both spent when one of you was down, the memories you shared with him? To Kakucho, it was all a golden treasure.
And he isn't going to let any of them go to waste.
He felt utterly stupid letting the argument long and waiting for himself to finally face you, he felt dumb after realizing what he did to you, making his wife sleep all alone knowing you're crying yourself to sleep, making his wife cook all meals and eating alone, knowing that those dinners you worked hard for went all to waste because of his stubbornness.
You woke up from your sleep as you felt a presence in front of you, and you were shocked to see your husband in front of you who you haven't talked with for days, it's like your first time seeing him.
"O-Oh sorry, I'll sleep on the bed." Your eyes widen as you got nervous talking to him, it felt like those times where you first met him and you were always stumbling and stuttering.
You quickly stood up from the couch and grabbed the blankets and pillows, of course your popcorn as well as you walked off, but then you felt a hand grab your wrist and pulls you in a hug.
"Y/n, I'm sorry."
Your eyes widen as you heard those words from him again... after a year.
He pulled you into his arm and placed your head on his chest as he caressed the back of your head, "I'm really sorry, Y/n, please forgive me— I don't need to hear your response on my apology, bring the blame to me, I was too insensitive, I lost track of our relationship, I lost everything we had back then. Give me another chance to make it up to you, I'll be a better husband. And if you wish to bring the old us again, I'll refuse to do so, because we'll make a better future for the two of us, better than our past." He murmured softly, his tone that you missed every day, always hoping to hear something from him... even if it was only a single word.
"I miss you every day, I miss your cooked dinners as well."
Kakucho's heart softens as he sees your state, your eyes widen as you feel overwhelmed, and you're not sure if you're still sleeping and this is just a dream. You truly never expected this side of Kakucho to return.
You were still speechless after hearing what he had to say, and tears welled up in your eyes. You felt Kakucho rest his chin on your head and caress the back of your head, his hold was tight and soothing, and you tried to let go, but he didn't move a muscle.
"Kaku—
"Can we stay like this for a little longer?" He whispered with a deep tone, barely like a whisper.
After some time, he lets go of the hug and looked at you, and you quickly looked at the side, obviously avoiding his gaze as Kakucho chuckled at you.
"Don't go shy on me now, darling," He said as he lifted your chin and made you face him. "I'll make it up to you, okay? I miss your smile already, I miss everything about you."
"I'll cook dinner for us?" Kakucho asked, he doesn't care if he's exhausted from work; all he wants to do is make dinner for you, and it's over. Your mouth formed a genuine smile, your eyes gleamed as you hurriedly nodded, and Kakucho's heart melted.
And then you were sitting in the dining room, while Kakucho was cooking in the kitchen.
When you looked to your side and saw Kakucho bringing food to the dining table, and you knew your husband could cook and do chores as well.
"I miss your cooks!" You gleefully said as you ate one of the soups he made, the one that he learned from you.
"You got the ingredients right," You said as you smiled, and Kakucho was only staring at you, you looked up from your food and raised your brows at him.
"You're... not eating?" You asked while Kakucho shook his head.
"Why?" You said while you ate your soup.
"I just want to see your smile again." He said.
Your eyes widen as you looked at him, your heart thumped out of your chest as you heard those familiar words from him, words you remembered from when you first started dating him years ago. It felt as if you had traveled back in time.
Kakucho adores this time since it is just the two of you, with no worries and neither of you overthinking, and it puts an end to the idea of "ending it all."
How he wished time would get longer, just seeing your smile and catching a glimpse of your eyes was enough for him, and these little dinner dates were a treasured memory. Kakucho adores you and will continue to do so till the rest of eternity, these arguments are merely an obstacle for you two, and he strongly believes that.
He'll love you endlessly like how he loves your smiles and cooked meals for him.
The times you spent were truly gold, and this is one of those times.
The perfect simple dinner date.
