Chapter 4
Ava's POV
I woke up this morning feeling energized. I need to run more often, dam. I got off the couch and went into the kitchen, where I see Snape and 'Hide having a stare down. Snape launched jim self at 'Hide but I put my arm in the way, causing the dam rattle snake to bite me. "Now Snape, you know better than to attack other people."
Snape wrapped his tail around my arm and released his fangs from my arm. I unwrapped him from my arm and put him on the counter. "And as of the rules, you get to stay in the house today." Moving past Ironhide I walked towards the bathroom. "Where are you going?"
"Going to the bathroom, I need the anti venom for a rattlesnake bite." After dealing with the snakebite, I returned to the kitchen and walked to the fridge. Grabbing an apple I looked at 'Hide. "Ready to go back to base?" 'Hide looked at me weary. "Are you gonna be okay?"
Nodding, I throw one more look at Snape before leaving the house with 'Hide. Upon arriving at base I see that everyone, minus Arcee, is in the main room. "Hey Ava, who won?" Lifting my arm, showing the bandage, Miko laughed. "Snape." Optimus was looking at us before looking back at Ratchet. "Optimus, I've pinpointed the location of Megatron's Space Bridge. High in Earth's orbit."
"And out of our reach." Miko then looked at Ratchet. "Ok, so you guys don't fly but can't you just ground-bridge there?" Ratchet rolled his eyes. "The Ground Bridge has limited range. Stretch all the way into orbit its vortex could snap. And scatter us to the stars." Optimus looked at the screen. "Since Megatron is likely already in transit, I'm afraid we must take that risk. Reaching the Space Bridge first is our only means of stopping him."
Arcee then suddenly drove in with... Jack? "Hey, guess who's back!" I halved waved at him. "Welcome back." Optimus then walked over. "Autobots, prepare for departure."
"Where to?" Miko than jumped on my back. "The final frontier."
"Space? I thought they didn't have any way to get there." Ralph then spoke up. "They don't, really." Jack than looked at Arcee. "Be seen you?"
"Be careful, 'Bee." Miko got off my back. "I'm so jealous." Bulkhead than pointed at her. "Don't even think about following me." I looked at 'Hide. "Be careful, I've lost to many friends to fighting." Ironhide smirked at me. "You already care for me." I lifted my arm up. "I took a rattlesnake bite for you, so yes."
Ironhide chuckled and walked away. "Optimus, if you leave me stranded on a planet teaming with humans, I will never forgive you." Optimus smiled at him and grabbed his shoulder. "Until we meet again, old friend." Optimus turned to the ground bridge. "Autobots, roll out! Maximum overdrive!"
It was silent for a little bit as Ratchet tried to get a line with the others. "Well, what are they waiting for?" Ah good old Arcee. "It appears the Decepticons have sustained serious damage to their interstellar navigation system." Miko and I fist bump the air. "Uh, that's my handiwork."
"Great job, Bulkhead. Without the dish, Megatron would be unable to aim the Space Bridge at Cybertron." Miko looked confused. "Don't the Decepticons know where their own planet is?" Ratchet scoffed. "Naturally." I then took over. "Cybertron is most likely many light years away. To reach their target, their aim must be astronomically precise." Ratchet was looking at me weirdly.
"Dad's one of the brightest people I know. I also have a brother who works at NASA." Optimus then spoke up. "If Megatron went to the travel of rendezvousing with his Space Bridge, he must have an alternate targeting system. A remote one." Ratchet scoffed. "From what I know of Earth's technology, I doubt there exists a single radio-telescope dish on this planet powerful enough to pinpoint Cybertron."
Ralph then spoke up. "What about a whole bunch of linked radio-telescope dishes?" I then caught on to what he was thinking. "Like the giant sized array in Texas? Ralph can you pull them up." Ratchet then looked at Ralph and I. "Shh! This is not child's play."
"Good thinking, Raf." I then smirked at Ratchet. "Ratchet, have agent Fowler alert the array staff to the security hazard." I then looked over at Fowler. "You, soldier! You're on the uniform! Put on some pants!" Ratchet sighed. "That may be a challenge." Miko looked at me. "Ava!" I pulled out my phone. "Calling Jacob."
Ralph sighed in frustration. "I can't get past the array's firewalls. They're too thick." Jack looked at Ralph. "You actually think you could keep the Decepticons out?" Ralph sounded unsure. "Maybe, if I could get in." Jack looked thoughtful. "W-wait, Raf, what if we could get you all the way in? Like 'inside-the-building' in?"
"I could log into their intern network on the other side of the firewall." Optimus sounded unsure. "The risk is too great, the Decepticons would be there. Perhaps even on sight." Jack spoke up. "Optimus, with all due respect...you said it yourself, this is bigger than the safety of three humans." Miko than spoke up. "Yeah, if we let the 'Cons win, we are fried, along with everyone else on our planet." Optimus spoke again. "Ava?" I sigh in frustration and shut off my phone.
"I can't get a hold of Jacob, we got no one inside to do this. If Raf decides to go, he will not be alone." It's silent for a little while. "Raf?" Raf sighed and looked at the computer again. "I wanna give it a shot." I smiled at Raf, proud. As we walked down the steps towards the ground bridge, Miko looked at me with a raised eyebrow.
"Jacob?" I put my hand up. "Most likely out working on his farm, away from his phone." We enter the ground bridge and end up in Texas. "That will take some getting used to." We started running through the yard and building. We found an empty computer room and entered. Miko looked around before closing the door . "Security sure is lax on this place."
Raf then sat at the computer. "I'm in. And so are the Decepticons." Miko and I looked over his shoulder. "What?!" "How can you tell?" Raf pointed at the screen. "Schematics. With the same alien math we saw on their ship. But this time, I can download it." He inserted a flash drive. Studying the schematics I realize what they might be. "It's gotta be the Space Bridge."
"The Decepticons are syncing it to the dishes" Raf starts to enter the code. "But I can sync in them." Jack looked concerned. "Would they know?" I spoke up. "Sadly yes, although there is a good chance that they wouldn't know we were in the actual building."
Raf nodded. Suddenly the satellites are moving back into position. "What just happened?" Raf started typing again. "The Decepticons are locking on to Cybertron." I noticed the satellites locked in position. "Locked!" Raf spoke up. "Not for long." This went on for a few more minutes. Jack than spoke up. "What happens when the 'Cons realize they are been punk?"
Raf shrugged. "It's only virtual combat, you know, like on-line gaming." Miko chimed in. "Yeah, Jack, what are the 'Cons gonna do? They're probably like a thousand miles away." I looked behind us and saw Soundwaves tentacle. "Wow!" Jack, Miko, and I quickly jumped out of the way while Raf ducked as it launched forward.
Raf worked at the computer as the 3 of us tried to fight of the tentacle. In the end, Miko was stupid. "You handed it an axe?!" "Not good..." He started to move out of the room. "Oh no, you don't!" I grabbed a hold of the tentacle and was dragged out. "Ava!" Upon entering the other room he shook me off before slamming the axe down on some cables.
When the others arrived, he took a picture of us and left. "Why is he leaving?" Raf walked over to the cables. "He has cut the hard-line." Miko looked worried. "Which means?" I put my hand on her shoulder. "The dishes are locked on to Cybertron. For good."
After returning to base I went over to Fowler, who is back up and running. "So, how do we beat a whole planet of the undead?" Ratchet then pulled up a large energy mass on screen. "Optimus, I'm registering a rapidly expanding mass in their Space Bridge vortex. One with a peculiar energy signature."
Optimus spoke up at this. "Dark Energon. Ratchet, we must destroy the Space Bridge. There's enough live energon cursing through it to achieve detonation. But we lack the firepower to ignite it." Ratchet sighed. "If I knew how the Space Bridge was engineered, I might find a tactical way of accomplishing that feat." Raf held up a flash drive. "Hm... would schematics help?"
Ratchet looked at Raf before looking back at the computer. "Optimus, I must say......the Space Bridge is our sole hope of ever returning to Cybertron. Are you certain it's destruction is the only option?" It's silent for a moment. "I am afraid so." Ratchet suddenly looked determined. "Then by all means......let us light our darkest hour."
While they were working on that, I turned to Fowler. "Agent Fowler." He turned toward me. "Yes Ava?" I sighed and looked at the ground. "I'm sorry for disobeying orders. But to be fair, you did not inform me about them." He chuckled before ruffling my hair. "As long as you don't get hurt, I won't tell your father." I but my hands together in a prayer style. "Bless you."
"Ratchet, we're in position." We looked back the screen. "Arcee, pay close attention. Now follow the line from the flow regulator to the energon pump. There should be a valve."
"I see it."
"Good. To turn all that power against itself, all you need to do is reverse the current."
"Current reversed." Fowler suddenly fist bumped the air. "Yes! ... Right?" Ratchet turns away. "I'll ready the Ground Bridge." After turning on the ground bridge, we're forced to wait. "Do you... think they're...?" Ratchet looked at his arm. "Four life signals. One vary faint..." Bulkhead and Ironhide were the first two through. "Bulkhead!" "Ironhide"
Miko and I ran to our guardians. Next through was Bumblebee...carrying Arcee. "We lost one this week, by the Allspark, don't let it be two." Jack walked up to them and touched her hand. "Arcee..." Her eyes opened. "Jack, really...? There are other motorcycles in the world." Jack smiled. "But you're my first." Finally Optimus came through.
"And Megatron?" He looked at Ratchet. "Not even he could have survived ground-zero." "Prime!" We looked towards Fowler. "I didn't get to thank you, 'Bots, for the save. I owe you one. We all do." After Fowler left we walked up to the bots. "So... is this the part where you say good-bye and...and tell us we need to forget we ever saw you?"
Optimus looked away in thought before looking back at us. "No. We will keep an eye over you." He smiles down at us causing us to smile up at him.
Mini Time Skip
When we arrive back at the house, there was a package at the door. I picked up the box and set it on the couch, reading the top.
Ship to: Ava Jones
Address: 7745 Hamner St, Jasper Nevada
From: Anastasia Jones
Juno, Alaska
Upon opening it, I find a little care package inside, with a note. "What's that?" I looked over at 'Hide before picking up the letter. "A little gift from my sister."
Dear Ava,
Heard you got in trouble again, here is a little something for when Miko wants to draw for hours on end.
Love, Anna
I smile and put the note back, putting the box full of blankets and Stephen King novels by the door. What a day. "So, how was space?" 'Hide chuckled. "Not bad. How was using your brain." I punched him in the arm as he laughed. "I'm gonna go to bed early, night 'Hide." "Night Ava."
