Tokyo Dome (東京ドーム Tōkyō Dōmu) is a 55,000-seat  stadium (actual capacity: 42,000 seats) located in Bunkyo Ward of Tokyo, Japan.

The stadium opened for business on March 17, 1988. Located in central Tokyo, the Tokyo Dome is the home of the Yomiuri Giants of the Central League.  Opened in 1988, the stadium has capacity for up 55,000 fans, making it one of the largest stadiums in Nippon Professional Baseball.  The stadium is at the center of Tokyo Dome City, an entertainment and shopping district.  Fans going to the game can get there early and enjoy the amusement park with a roller coaster and Ferris wheel.

What to See at the Ballpark 

The Tokyo Dome is also home to the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.  The museum features numerous displays celebrating the history of the game around the world and in Japan.  There are also numerous displays for national Japanese baseball teams success in world competition with trophies for the 2006 and 2009 World Baseball Classic on display.  Just like Cooperstown, you can walk through and see plaques featuring all 168 Hall of Fame inductees.

Getting to the Game

Tokyo has excellent public transportation and with the Tokyo Dome located near several convenient stops on train lines, getting to the stadium is fairly easy.  If you don't know any Japanese, there is signage for the trains in English but a quick review of where you are going to will help in your travels.  To get to the game take the local on the Chuo Line to the JR Suidobashi Station.  Tokyo Dome City is located a quick walk across the street.

Tokyo Dome's original nickname was "The Big Egg", with some calling it the "Tokyo Big Egg". Its dome-shaped roof is an air-supported structure, a flexible membrane held up by slightly pressurizing the inside of the stadium.　Tokyo Dome is the largest concert hall in Japan. The first live performance inside the Tokyo Dome was by The Alfee and an International Military Marching Band pageant, with bands from Australia, England, USA, Poland, Germany, China, Japan and others on March 19, 1988.
