Sokka: 2
"Ohhhh! That reminds me. Toph, would you like to visit the South Pole?" Sokka had always wanted Toph to come to the South Pole. He had asked and asked, but she said no every time. Sokka guessed it was because of the ice. Toph could only see when she was stepping on earth or metal. She would also have to wear shoes. He understood that she didn't like to be waited on hand and foot, but if she came to his home that was what would happen. He didn't mind, actually he liked it. Toph never wanted help, she was always helping others, but Sokka wanted a chance to change that.
"Yeah!!! Toph, please?" begged Katara. His sister was always looking for a chance for people to come to the South Pole. They really need the help, and they also needed more people to increase the population.
"That's a good idea Sokka. Toph could stay with us. Oh! She could meet your dad. You'll like him. Hakoda is really friendly," Aang piped in.
"I haven't decided yet Twinkle Toes. I'm sure he's nice, I just don't want to go to a place where I can't see," Toph explained to the gAang.
"You don't have to see. I... we can help you. Think of it as a vacation. You can wear Water Tribe clothes, and you'll fit right in," Sokka was excited now. He could see her giving in.
"I... I.... Oh alright. How bad can it be? But I don't want to go ice fishing, ponytail guy."
"Wohooo!!!" Sokka shouted. This was going to be awesome!
"I'll go pack my bags. Katara can help pack yours, Toph. She knows what to bring. Wait! Don't pack too much because I want to take you shopping for a dress and a parka. Yeah! Let's do that," Sokka ran out of dinning room towards his room.
The long hall was bathed in sunshine. His room was the first door on the right. Toph made her parents build extra rooms for when the gAang stayed with her, and they came to visit often. Sokka opened the door to his room, and looked around. The room consisted of a bed, a dresser and mirror, but that was all he needed. The new beds were comfortable. If you ever got the chance to nap on a cloud, he guessed it would be close to sleeping on the new beds. The blanket on top was green, like Toph's eyes, but less.... milky. He scratched his head. Since when did he know what color Toph's eyes were?
Migrating towards the dresser, he shook his head to rid it of those troubling thoughts. The dresser wasn't made of wood or metal, but earth. He gathered all his clothes and rolled them up in his sleeping bag. (He wasn't sure why he brought the sleeping bag, but hey, it worked out)
Then, he stood in front of the mirror. His hair had gotten longer, about chin length now, but he still wore it in the warrior's wolf tail. The only difference was the added braid in the front, like his dad. Sokka's eyes were still the same color of blue they had always been. The electric blue really complemented his skin color. A light tan color, his skin was dark compared to Toph's ivory skin or Aang's white.
"Sokka, what's taking so long? Aang has Appa ready," Katara's voice came from down the hall at the back foot, the one that lead to the gardens where Appa was held.
"Coming! Geez Katara! We're not in a hurry!" He yelled back. Picking up his clothes roll, he dashed out the door into the golden hallway.
"I thought you wanted to get home. Aren't you in a hurry?"
"Well...-" Sokka started but was cut off by his sister.
"Mmhhmm. Just hurry up pony tail guy."
"Hey! Only Toph can call me that. It sounds more manly when she says it."
"Are saying Toph sounds manly?" Katara never listened. He was older then her! It was true that Katara was more mature but.....he was older!
"No! Toph's not manly. She's a girl. I was just saying that when she says it, it makes me seem more manly," Sokka was agitated now. His sister could be so infuriating.
"Sokka, really. Come on," Katara pulled him closer to Appa. He took that as his cue to get into the saddle with a blind Toph.
The saddle wasn't made out of earth or metal so she couldn't see. It was actually filled with warm furs, which was convenient for the long (two day) trip to the freezing South Pole. He crawled over to where Toph sat wrapped in a blanket.
"Are you excited? I sure am. We can go penguin sledding, and shopping, and-"
"Sokka, breath. Yes I'm excited. Just a little nervous." See...as he said before, she was always helping others, even if helping meant hurting them.
"Well don't be nervous. You're going to be okay. We'll just have to get you some boots. Ohhhh! How about the fuzzy ones?" He asked her.
By now, Appa had taken off and was almost to the edge of the earth kingdom. Toph didn't answer right away. She was too busy hanging onto the side of the saddle, and he noticed her fearful expression.
"Toph, you're not going to fall. If you do, I'll catch you. Well... Aang will, since I can't fly. I wish I could fly." Sokka envisioned himself soaring through the clouds, wind in his face.
"Thanks Sokka. I'm just- did you say shoes!!! Oh, no no. I'm not wearing any kind of shoe. I don't care if they're boots or flats, I'm not wearing them," Toph told him, panicking.
"Do you want to get frost bite?" Sokka asked her calmly.
He had witnessed many frost bite cases in his 19 years of living in the South Pole. Although he'd never gotten frost bite himself, Sokka was always quick to protect others form the danger.
"Well no......" she answered him slowly.
"Then wear boots. They're really fuzzy!" He smiled at her as he pulled off his shoe.
"Feel," he offered her his shoe.
"Sokka, I-" she began to protest.
"Feel," he poked her in the stomach and she giggled," I know you wanna."
"Fine."
She put her delicate hand in his boot and stroked the fur on the inside. Her blind eyes grew wide with surprise.
"Wow," she exclaimed," they really are fuzzy."
"I told you so," Sokka teased as he put on his boot. He found himself staring at Toph, memorizing the way her hair flowed down her back and the snug fit of her dress and the blanket on top; the curve in the bottom of her bare feet. He blinked. What was wrong with him?
"Alright you two, it's getting late. Get some rest," his sister called from the front.
Katara was right. It was dusk already. The girl beside him yawned, her pink lips shaped in an "o". She curled into a loose ball and closed her eyes.
"Night Katara," Sokka yawned too. He crawled into his sleeping bag and turned to his side.
"Sweet dreams, Toph" he whispered, but she was already asleep, breathing deeply. Sokka sighed. He didn't take his gaze off of her until his eyes lids closed and he drifted off to sleep.
