Run

Colleen's POV

"You're really going to kidnap one of your closest friends?" Derek asked as he strode next to me. I turned my head towards him, having to look up at the taller boy, and gave him a glare.

"It's a job. I have to do it or else Victor will kill me and probably you as well." I replied harshly. Derek just nodded in agreement before gazing in front of him.

This was going to be a difficult task, I mean kid napping one of my best friends? Someone who I go to for everything? How could I? It would be heartless and evil. I'd be risking everything if I don't do it.

I looked at the ground as I thought, seemingly lost in my thoughts until Derek nudged my shoulder. I looked up at him to see him pointing across the parking lot that we stood in. I followed his finger till I came across a very familiar face, one that I could point out in a crowd easily.

"Lets go." I muttered before stalking over to where she stood. She stood alone, surprisingly, Josh was nowhere to be found. Derek was already in front of me, ready to attack before I grabbed his wrist tightly and pulled him into a small alley.

"What the hell, Colleen!? The quicker we do this, the better!" He whisper-yelled as he ran his hand down his face, frustratedly.

"I can't do it. That's my best friend!" I whispered back, looking at the ground guiltily.

"Well you may not be able to do it, but I sure as hell can." He said as he started to walk back towards the unknowing girl. I was quick to react, almost instantly I was standing in front of him.

"I won't let you do it either." I stated, as I pushed him back to where we couldn't be seen.

"I am on probation with Victor, if I get into more trouble because of you, I will not forgive you." He spoke but his words were empty, he didn't want to do it either.

"Then blame it on me. Say that I scared her away or something happened." I pushed, trying to get him to agree.

"No. I'm doing this." With that, he shoved me into the wall and walked out of the alley. I quickly gained my composure and sprinted after him.

He was close to her, only about five feet away when he took out a cloth from his pocket. I knew that he had a special liquid, chloroform, on that cloth that would knock a person out within a few minutes, it was the easiest way to kidnap someone.

He was right behind her now and I leapt at him, wrapping my arms around his neck and my legs around his waste, squeezing my arms around his neck tightly.

"Get the fuck off of me, Colleen!" Derek yelled as he tried helplessly to get me off. At this point, Taylor was turned around and watching with wide eyes at the site in front of her.

Derek finally got me off of his back when he leaned all the way down and pushed my legs up, causing me to do a half backflip onto the cement. I groaned in pain but quickly got back up.

"Colleen, stop fighting me, let me do this job!" He screamed, his face red from when I was choking him.

"I can't let you do that, Derek. You know damn well I can't." I yelled back, his eyes showed that he was angry, beyond that really.

"So be it." Derek turned toward Taylor and sprinted towards her. Shocked, Taylor couldn't move, she was frightened and confused on why two of her friends were fighting and now one was coming at her.

I quickly ran after him, trying my best to catch him. I could almost feel the adrenaline rush as I continued to run.

"Taylor run! Please just run!" I yelled, in hopes that she would snap out of her daze and run away.

She did. She turned and sprinted in the other way, taking two sharp turns to the right so she was coming towards me. I was quick to think as Taylor sprinted past me as I stuck out my foot just when Derek passed, quick enough so he didn't analyze it until after his nose slammed into the concrete. I was quick pounce onto his back and hold his arms down with all the strength I could muster up.

"Taylor run! Run and never look back! Grab your things from your house then just run, take off, move to another state, people are after you, you need to go!" I yelled as I struggled to hold Derek down.

"What about you?" She asked, her eyes showing full concern as she looked at me.

"I'll be fine, just go! And hurry!" I said, urging her to go before Derek got free from my hold.

Taylor shook her head as a single tear fell from her eye, then she turned and ran down the black pavement.

Derek was angry at this point, to the point where he was changing. His skin slowly ripped apart and green scales popped up in its place. His muscles tightened and his body grew underneath me, his jaw clenched as his eyes changed from dark brown to a mix of yellow and green. Slowly his teeth began to get sharper and his grunts of pain were much lower than before, and soon after they were growls.

I swallowed thickly before jumping off of him, causing him to stand up on his hind legs, and instead of the 6 foot tall person he was, he was now a 8 foot beast.

What? Me? Scared? No.

Okay... maybe a little.

"Derek calm down, look we can make up an excuse that she caught us or something. It's not a big deal. I just couldn't do it. You have to understand, what if this was Blake or your brother?" I tried to explain as his eyes bore into mine. The only response I got was a low growl that escaped his lips before he charged at me.

I tried to jump out of the way but he was too quick, he grabbed wrist with his right hand and pulled me towards him, quickly placing his huge left hand onto my neck and squeezing tightly. He let go of my wrist to put his other hand onto my neck as well. I was quickly losing air at this point, my peripheral vision was going darker, I had to think of something and quickly.

My brown eyes bore into his yellow ones, desperate for him to let go. I was angry, it wasn't just me betraying Victor but I betrayed Derek also, but at this point, if Derek kills me, he'll get into more trouble.

I clasped both of my hands around each of Derek's wrists and squeezed tightly. I could feel my hands getting warmer, but Derek couldn't feel anything, not yet at least. With all of my might, I started to burn Derek's scales, my hands started to heat up quickly and Derek's scales were now bright red as flames burst out from my hands.

Derek yelped in pain and dropped me to the floor. He was still on fire as he tried to pat it off of him. I sat on all fours on the ground, gasping for air. My vision was blurred as the oxygen rushed back to my brain.

When I looked back up, Derek stood there back in his normal human form, looking guilty and upset. He had marks on his wrists, they were almost black and they matched the size of my hands.

"Look, Colleen, I'm sorry. I shouldn't of done that. I was just angry, angry that you betrayed me and Victor but you're right, we can make up an excuse." Derek apologized, sincerely.

"If you really think that I'm going to accept your apology that easily, you're fucking insane. Leave me the hell alone, Derek." I responded as I glared at the man in front of me. He looked down at the ground, ashamed before he slowly nodded his head in an understanding way.

"I understand." Derek responded before walking closer to me and put out his hand, offering to help me up. I pushed myself off of the floor and got up by myself then started to walk away.

"I'm not going to trust you that easily, reptile. Let's go." I stated as I continued to walk down the cracked sidewalk in the direction of Victor's place.

I could feel Derek walking behind me but his steps were slower than normal and he dragged his feet across the ground.

Serves him right.

I let out an elongated sigh as we both walked in the same direction.

This is going to be awkward.
