Chapter 9: The New Student Council
Mornings in school for Swara and Sanskaar was no more with heated glares and sarcastic conversation rather it was 'Good Morning' greets with a sweetest smiles on their faces. The practice sessions for the play went on and the entire team performed extremely well for starters in a small span of time impressing every teacher. Swara and Sanskaar spent extra time in practicing their scripts together since they meet everyday in the café.
For Sanskaar he found her to be one of those rare people, whom everyone looks up to for having a genuinely good soul. Her qualities of empathy, warmth and concern for others make her an extremely admirable character adding more power to her bold and independent nature.
For Swara she found so that he has so much intricate depth to his character, so many fascinating shades to his nature. She loved how he was determined, single minded focus and how he loved his grandmother with each and every fibre of cell in his body.
It was just another day but something seemed different. Sanskaar sensed something was about to happen when he saw people gossiping too much. Brushing all the thoughts away he walked inside the class and saw Swara placing her bag on her table.
"Hey Swara, Good morning." He greeted as he walked closer to her since his bench was beside hers.
"Good morning Sanskaar." Swara smiled.
"You've got any idea of what our entire class is busily gossiping about?" Sanskaar asked opening the window letting the sun shine hit their face directly.
"Nope!" Swara nodded in no. Even she was wondering about it.
"Students it's common assembly, go to the assembly ground immediately."
Miss. Stella announced and left.
Students started to move out the class and that was when Aditi came in with full swing.
"Swara, Sanskaar did you both hear the rumours spreading around?" Aditi placed her bag looked both them still breathing heavily.
"Aditi breathe first. Is the gossip more important than your own breathe?" Sanskaar commented as he walked to both the girls.
"How can I when there's a high chance of announcing of the student council for this year today?" Aditi squealed in excitement after all her friends have very high chances to be a part of the Student council .
"So?" He asked casually burring both his hands inside his pant pockets.
"Not a big deal now come let's go." Swara forcefully turned her and pushed Aditi's shoulders forward and walked.
"Seriously guys? Aren't you excited?" Aditi asked and shook her head in disbelief.
"What's about it? Oh well! Is it because Jay is going to be the school sports captain?" Sanskaar teased.
"Who's better than Jay in the entire school for sports? I'm sure all the teachers will root for him." Swara winked at Aditi, joining hands with Sanskaar teasing her.
"Of course he is!" Aditi's face turned red blushing and Sanskaar shook his head, both them were so madly in love with each other that they go red only with the mention of each other's name.
"Aiyo! Look at you all red." Swara winked.
"Gosh both of you stop it." And Swara received a small hit from Aditi as all three walked to the assembly ground.
"Sanskaar let's stop or else she's going to die blushing more and more." Both chuckled and gave hifi to each other while Aditi huffed and walked forward or to say to avoid their tease and her flushed face.
"Pre congratulations on your 99.9% win as the head boy." Swara said.
"It's not confirmed Swara and what about this 99.9% ?" He rolled his eyes clearly stating he was not much interested for the post. If they could select then it was only going to add more responsibilities on his shoulders.
"That slightest 0.1% has me in it." She whispered softly with a wink and walked forward to join the line. If her calculations were correct then it would be like Sanskaar being the head boy after all their English teacher Mr. Matthews, the oldest among all could have fought even though she had the highest total. He could highlight the point she was not here for the last two years.
Sanskaar shook his head and joint the line too. Whatever it was going to be he could happily accept it.
The assembly started with a short prayer song followed by Lord's prayer and the gossips turned out to be true when Miss. Stella started speaking about the student council.
Names were been called to receive their batches. Aditi got her badge for the purple house unexpectedly, Laksh got his for blue house. Jay with no hindrance got his Sports captain batch making him real Mr. Captain and Arya got the chief editor post.
"And now it's time to announce the Vice president of Student Council... and it is..."
Aditi had her hands together mumbling prayers for Swara and Sanskaar while Jay on the other had the same expression.
"Swara Gagodia! Please come on the stage. You had excelled not only in academics but co- curricular activities as well and your extraordinary skills are not left unnoticed."
Jay, Aditi and Sanskaar had a satisfactory smile as they beamed in joy for their friend.
Swara walked up to the stage. Even though she wasn't having any liking for it she felt proud when her batch was pinned by the headmistress who was actually her mother too.
She could her eyes shining with pride as she congratulated her with a smile.
Getting batches has become quite natural for Swara since she bagged the presidential batch for junior student council and Jay was then too a sports captain. Both knew each and every thing what happens in the student council.
Since Swara was asked to stay on the stage as the other students who received their batches she silently took place in the middle beside Jay who had a grin.
"Mr. Captain has really become one. Congo jeejay!" Swara whispered.
"Thanks Miss. Vicey president and you are lucky that I'm leaving you for calling me that only because we are on stage." He replied back and Swara giggled softly but quickly hid her expressions.
Everyone had their breathes held as the President name was about to be called out.
The headmistress had the mike with a smile. "And now the President of the Student Council for the year goes to... Put your hands together as I welcome Sanskaar Malhotra as the president."
Swara had a i-knew-it-already look as she saw Sanskaar walking to the stage while everyone clapped. The batch was pinned on his shirt and stood beside Swara.
"Your words won." He leaned a little bit and whispered softly.
"Then I deserve another party." She winked and looked forward as the photographer pictures the group photo of the student council.
~
"Cheers to the us!" The soda tins were hit by the new student council members and they drank the soda. Some hooted and laughed while others cheered.
"Let's make everyone say us the best student council ever even after decades." Swara said.
"We are in this together." All answered in one ago and started congratulating each other.
"Congratulations Swara." Laksh forwarded his hand to her with a warm smile.
"Congrats Laksh." She shook her hands with his.
It's been so long since Laksh interacted with Swara other than the play when they exchanged dialogues to each other and he hardly got any scene to be with her. But there was his heart of his broken every time she laughed with others. Even though he didn't want to loose hope he could see them fading slowly and slowly with every passing time.
Swara did warned him, scolded him and told him not to keep up his hopes and dreams of them together. She made everything clear but his stupid heart was still holding on to her and he really couldn't do anything. She only showed her cold shoulders and chided at him only when he tried to say they were engaged and he loved her. She still beared him for all the non-sense he threw at her and guided him. He looked at Swara who was laughing along with Jay, Aditi and Sanskaar. He really wished atleast one day he could be the reason behind that beautiful smile and left the place.
"We need a break and party for the stressful exams we got over and to enjoy some freedom. Any idea?" Aditi brought in the topic as she knew it was necessary for all.
"How about a sleepover in someone's house?" Jay asked still thinking. Sleepover could be fun since they have a holiday tomorrow.
"That's a great idea but whose?" Swara lifted her eyebrows.
"Not mine. My parents are hell strict about sleeping times but I can come to any one's house though." Aditi threw her hands up.
"Mm.. we can select my house but it will have to much space than needed and I'm sure you guys will freak out." Swara explained.
"How about mine?" Jay wasn't sure of the idea. Ofcourse his father was a very free type person he would definitely allow and infact he would treat them forgetting his own son.
"Yes!" The girls said in unison with excitement and all their heads turned towards Sanskaar.
"What?" He asked noticing everyone's gaze fixed on him.
"You are in right?" Swara could see him hesitate but she still bothered to ask.
"Erh, the thing is my grandma would be alone in the house and..."
"We'll ask Sona didi to stay with her. Sanskaar just one night yaar." Swara tried to convince him. Sanskaar was a kind of convinced with the idea but still he felt a little hesitant.
"Please." All the three looked at him innocently.
"Fine!" Sanskaar sighed. He's got a bunch of drama queens with him.
"Without me?" Arya walked in and he didn't even give a single chance to explain. "Even though I'm not invited I am trespassing the party tonight."
"Then why bother ask us idiot." Jay smacked his head and all laughed.
"So it's tonight then." Aditi was all excited for the sleepover and so was others.
~
"You better be a good girl by not running around alone, eating cold food and especially not the ice cream, don't trouble Sona didi when she helps you with food and...."
"Sanskaar! Stop it. I feel like I'm the younger one while I am your grandmother." Asha chided on the phone.
"Because you act like you one. Stay safe and take care, call me even if it's going be 3 A.M. I love you." Sanskaar chuckled as he knew how his grandmother's face would go into a scowl expression.
"Love you too and just don't take stress about me. It's going to be you and your friends so have fun my little boy." With that short note Asha hung the phone. Sanskaar sat down beside others.
"Guys let's play something to pass this night." Jay said as everyone settled on the floor after dinner.
"Antakshari? Truth or Dare? or Ouija?" Arya suggested with a smirk playing on the last word he said.
"Ouija!" Swara raised her hand to vote.
"No!!" Aditi screamed.
"Then what about Truth or Dare?" Sanskaar suggested this time.
"Kids play that." Arya said and gave a bored expression.
"Then why did you even put that in the suggestion?" Jay rolled his eyes at him.
"With a twist, how about we take a shot if after every dare." Swara spoke and looked at Jay.
"My lady, I'm out tequila nor wine. Dad had it all and I told you." Jay reminded her. "Let's get it then. How about me and Aditi?" He looked at her.
"No! I'm not going out." Aditi denied.
"Arya?"
"I can't move a inch." He replied and leaned on the bean bag.
"Go to hell!" Swara yelled at him. "Sanskaar coming?" She stood up with her eyes on him.
"Okay." He accepted and both came out of the room.
"Shonaaaaaaa." A little girl ran to Swara and wrapped her hands around her waist. Swara took minutes to realize who she was.
"Mia?" Swara sat on her knees and held the 6 year old who had a huge grin on her face. She had no idea how her little cousin Mia ended up here.
"You little devil, how did you come here?" Swara asked softly pinching her cheeks and Mia made a pout.
"Your aunt have some work tonight so the little one was supposed to be dropped in your house and when she heard she you were her she was stubborn to come here." Mr. Sharma walked inside closing the entrance door and looked at Swara.
"I missed you Mr. Sharma." Swara stood up and threw her arms around him while Mr. Sharma laughed.
"I missed you too sweetie." He replied softly. Swara always saw Jay's father as her father. When her father didn't had time for him it was him who fulfilled that space and showered her with lots of love and treated her just like his very own child.
"Mia wants friends too here." Mia shouted seeing no one giving attention to her. All three of them looked at the little one.
"How about.." Sanskaar sat on his knees to match the height of Mia. "Me? I am Sanskaar Malhotra, will you be my friend?" Sanskaar asked and Mia jumped in joy.
"Yes!" She giggled and threw her hands around his neck and Sanskaar left out a little laugh.
"She inheritance so much from you Swara." Mr. Sharma spoke adoring the little Mia while his mind traveled back to the time when Swara did the same thing to him.
"She does." A soft smile spread on her lips. Everyone who knew Swara and Mia told the same. Mia had the same brown hazel eyes, shiny straight hair, have every attitude she had and even the way she spoke reminded of her past self so much.
Sanskaar looked up at her and she kneeled down beside him getting the hint.
"I am Swara Gagodia, will you be my friend?" Swara forwarded her hand.
Mia chuckled seeing her Didi.
"Yes." She gave her hand to Swara and flipped her hair.
"You attitude brat." Swara tickled her making Mia laugh as her hands tried to stop her sister.
Seeing her laugh so much she paused and stood up.
"Are you both going out?" Mr. Sharma asked.
"Yes to get some..." Swara trailed off.
"Booze?" He completed her words while Swara shook her head in no.
"No Mr. Sharma, I'm going to get a beverage which is less alcoholic." She grinned.
"Alright but no heavy drinks." Mr. Sharma warned. She nodded quickly.
"Am I allowed to come?" Mia batted her eyes innocently. "Please." She pleased.
"Okay." Mr. Sharma and Sanskaar said in unison and both smiled. Sanskaar took Mia in his arms and after bidding bye to Jay's father.
