It was a cool afternoon in the common area of U.A. High, and Todoroki Shoto was sitting by the window, watching the leaves fall from the trees outside. The breeze that swept in through the open window carried the promise of an approaching winter, but Todoroki didn't mind. Cold weather was something he could handle, even embrace.
Momo Yaoyorozu entered the room, her usual graceful manner making her seem like a vision in the sunlight that streamed through the glass. Her eyes found Todoroki, and she smiled. There was something different about the way she looked at him these days—a soft, thoughtful gaze that lingered just a little longer than usual.
"Shoto," Momo greeted, her voice warm despite the chill in the air. "I've been meaning to ask you... are you feeling okay? I know the exams have been stressful."
Todoroki turned his head slightly, his two-toned hair falling in front of his eyes. His expression was calm, but Momo had learned by now to recognize the subtle signs of his weariness. She could see the way his posture tensed as if there was a burden he was carrying that no one else knew about.
"I'm fine," Todoroki replied, his tone almost too neutral. "Just thinking."
Momo moved closer, settling herself on the couch beside him. She wasn't one to push, but she could sense that Todoroki wasn't truly "fine." She had seen him in action during training and missions—he was always the first to dive into a difficult situation, yet the last to admit when he was struggling.
"You know, if you ever want to talk, I'm here," she said, her voice sincere.
Todoroki shifted slightly, looking at Momo. He knew she meant it. They had become close over the past few months, their shared experiences as U.A. students bringing them together. Momo had a way of listening without judgment, offering her support in quiet but powerful ways.
"I don't want to burden you," he replied, his eyes drifting back to the window. The wind outside picked up, sending a flurry of leaves tumbling through the air.
"You're not a burden," Momo said firmly. "We're teammates. Friends. If you're feeling weighed down, I want to help carry some of that weight."
Todoroki's gaze softened as he turned to look at her. There was something about Momo that made him feel at ease—her calm presence, her understanding, the warmth she brought even in moments of silence. It was different from what he'd been accustomed to in the past.
"You're... right," Todoroki admitted quietly. "I've been pushing myself too hard."
Momo smiled gently. "You're allowed to rest, you know. We all are."
For a moment, there was nothing but the sound of the wind and the peaceful quiet between them. Todoroki didn't feel the need to speak anymore, and Momo was content to let him be. Sometimes, words weren't needed—just the comfort of being there for each other was enough.
As the sun began to set, casting an orange glow over the room, Todoroki allowed himself to relax for the first time in days. Momo's presence was a calming force, one he didn't realize he needed until now.
