July 16-20: Mistakes
"Ruins... everything is in ruins."
Kaldur looked around in the darkness. All was in ruins around him and he can't seem to put them back together. Even after his mission was finished as a double agent, things were still hard for him.
He had done things he regrets. Things under normal circumstances he would never done, and maybe his actions were the direct cause of his old friend's death.
"It's all your fault that he's gone Kaldur'ahm. Not just him but her as well. It's all your fault."
A voice kept echoing in his head that everything was his fault. That all those who he was close to her and now were gone was all his fault.
"She will disappear as well Kaldur'ahm. Everyone you care about eventually does."
"No! No!! I won't let that happen! I won't lose her. I won't!!"
"Then keep an eye out Kaldur'ahm, or you might just lose her like everyone else."
Kaldur shot up from his bed when the voice finally left his nightmares her looked around to see that nothing had changed since he turned off his light and laid down for the night. Beads of sweat trailed down his coco down skin. His hands were shaking and his heart was racing. This dream had been happening a lot lately. Since the day they lost Wally, but most of all, all the mistakes that lead up to him going undercover in the Light as well as those he had made during were starting to come back and haunt him.
"They won't go away. All the ruins. They want to take everything away from me, everything I hold dear."
Kaldur looked down at the sleeping body next to him. She looked so peaceful. It has been six months since the two started their relationship, and they've been some of the best six months he's had in a long time but as the nights past these nightmares about his days undercover have been haunting him.
Kaldur sat up, careful not to wake the girl sleeping next to him, and made his way out to the outdoors terrace of their home. The night was cool and the smell of saltwater filled the air. Waves of the ocean crashing down on the shore blocked out the late night city traffic noise coming from the highway in the distance. Kaldur looked down below to the dark waters that crashing down just below. It would be so easy to just jump and hit the rocks below, but there would be a chance for him to survive, being Atlantean and all.
As he stood there, looking down at what could be the solution to his constant nightmares of his mistakes, he felt arms suddenly wrap around his chest. Kaldur snapped out of his dark daydreams and took the hands that now rested around his waist.
"Kaldur, are you unable to sleep again? What's wrong? Please tell me." Jasmine whispered as she hugged Kaldur from behind.
"I don't want to worry you about it Jasmine."
"But it's my job to worry about you Kaldur. If we're going to make this work, you still need to be open with me. Like you were at the beginning. So tell me what's wrong... please.
Kaldur took Jasmine's hands in his before turning around to face this wonderful person. His eyes felt heavy from the lack of sleep and the tiring missions from the Team.
"These dreams I keep having, there's. voice that keeps saying that everything I hold dear will turn to ruins, just like everything else I ever cared about. I don't want you to join them Jasmine, all the things that have ever cared about have turned to ruins." Kaldur' grip on Jasmine's hands tightened as he turned to face her. All she was wearing was a thin short rob she would often wearing after taking a showing. It was loosely tied, slightly revealing parts of her body that should be covered.
"Jasmine, you should cover up better. You'll catch a cold." Kaldur wrapped his arms around Jasmine so to keep her warm.
"Like you're one to talk. Coming out here with only a pair of sweatpants on. And as for your dreams, I promise Kaldur that nothing is going to happen because of you. Your world isn't ruins and I won't be part of the ruins you're so scared of. The choices we make are of our own doing. If something happens to me, it's going to be because of my own actions. So please put your worries to rest and leave your mistakes in the past and focus on the future that awaits us." Jasmine took Kaldur's hand and placed it on the lower part of her stomach. Kaldur' eyes grew big for a second as he looked back and forth between Jasmine's stomach and her smiling face.
"When?"
"I found out yesterday. Now that you know about this Kaldur, forget about the nightmares, forget about your mistakes and forget about the ruins that you're so afraid of. Because I love you Kaldur'ahm, and I need you now more then ever, not just for me, but for us."
Kaldur understood what Jasmine was saying. He had been so wrapped about his nightmares, the ruins and the mistakes that he had made while undercover, that he wasn't look towards the future with the people who were still with him. Tightly he held onto Jasmine and the little surprise that was growing inside her with slight tears in his eyes. The two stood there for a moment.
The salty air blowing around them and the sounds of waves crashing down onto the shore below. This was the closest thing they had to being close to both words. Life on the surface world and the waters of Atlantis. As they stood there in silence Kaldur could still here the echoing of the voice in his head. It was as if he was taunting him.
"She's not off the hook yet Kaldur. There's always happen and it doesn't matter what you say. Everything you have ever touched turns to ruins. It's only a matter of time before it does."
"Never. I won't let her fall to ruins like everything else. I'll protect her and what's inside her. I'll make you see it, I won't let you win."
"Poor, naïve Kaldur'ahm. How can you prove me wrong," the hidden figure suddenly cam into view. Standing there was the mirror image of himself. "when I am you..."
This is part one of this one-shot. Look for the second part when I post this separately after this appreciation month is over.
