Murders and friendships

(Episode 1-24)

After five months of the girls finding out Mona was A who was currently locked up at Radley.

Ava was currently with Aria, Hanna, Spencer, and Emily. "Em you and I are the only ones who did anything worth talking about this summer I mean Aria took some boring picture class with Ava and Spencer went to college" Hanna said.

"Hey Aria and I promised each other we do at least one thing together this summer" Ava said.

"I took a full load at Hollis and Aria and Ava both beat out thousands of applicants for a space in that photography class" Spencer said.

"So how many houses did you build" Hanna asked Emily. "Uh I think we finished about six" Emily said. "And In poor countries one house is like a home for fifty" Hanna said.

"Okay Miss Productive how much of your list did you actually do" Spencer asked Hanna.

"Let's see cooking class with Caleb done volunteer at the animal shelter for pocket dogs" Hanna said. "Wait that exists" Spencer asked.

"Did not do expand my vocabulary effectuating interned for Verna Wang" Hanna said.

"You got an internship for Vera Wang" Emily asked. "Yeah, I changed my mind turns out they want you to work for free" Hanna said. "Was that a car" Aria asked.

"No, it's just the wind" Hanna said. "We're the only ones here Aria it's okay relax" Ava said and Aria smiled at her.

"Oh, careful Em they're already pretty strong" Aria said seeing Emily pouring another drink.

"Maybe for you you're a pixie I've gotten really good at this" Emily said and all their phones rang. "Show me your boobs - A" Spencer said reading the text. "Classy" Ava said sarcastically. 

"Does Mona have a ten-year-old brother" Aria asked. "A, for annoying" Emily said. "Are these ever gonna stop" Hanna asked.

"Eventually we'll be old news" Spencer said. "Yeah, if we're lucky" Ava said. "Yeah, and then, Garrett will go on trial, and we'll be news again or Mona will start talking and we'll be news again" Aria said.

"Or I'll show someone my boobs and we'll be news again" Emily said. "Okay" Spencer said laughing.

"Hey, I thought this was a party" Emily said. "You know what you're right Em welcome back" Hanna said. "And you're never allowed to leave for an entire summer again" Aria said.

"I'll drink to that" Ava said. "To making it to senior year including Ava apparently who got bumped up to our year" Spencer said.

"What can I say having an amazing GPA helps" Ava said smiling and they all clinked glasses.

"Not all of us made it" Emily said. "I'm sorry Em I didn't mean it like that" Spencer said. "To Maya" Emily said and took a drink. "Em you know that we're here for you" Hanna said.

"To Maya" Ava, Spencer, Aria, and Hanna said and they all took a drink.

Aria woke up and saw the door was wide open. "Hanna" Aria said shaking her awake. "Ava wake up" Aria said shaking her awake and Hanna and Ava sat up.

"Where's Emily and Spencer" Hanna asked. "I don't know" Aria said. "I need an aspirin and a trough of water" Hanna said.

"We'll have to get it later we need to find Emily" Ava said getting up with Aria. "Emily" Aria said, and Spencer walked downstairs. "She's gone" Spencer said.

"What do you mean she's gone" Hanna asked. "She can't be gone she has to be here right" Ava said. "I've looked everywhere" Spencer said and Hanna called Emily.

The girls eventually found Emily at the graveyard and saw Alison's grave was dug up.

Emily went to lean against the tomb while Hanna went to her checking on her. "How could she not remember anything" Aria asked.

"She's totally out of it she's still drunk" Spencer said. "You don't think she had anything to do with this do you" Aria asked Spencer. "No, she can hardly stand" Spencer said.

"Emily loved Alison she would have never done this" Ava said. "How did she get here" Aria asked.

"Han hand me Em's phone" Spencer said, and Hanna gave her Emily's phone. Spencer looked through Emily's calls.

"Em you got a blocked call at eleven" Spencer said. "Who was it do you remember who you talked to" Spencer asked.

"Um I think I remember leaving your house and the next thing I know you guys are calling me and I'm here" Emily said. "What that can't be right" Spencer said.

"What is it" Aria asked. "It says that at midnight she got a call from my phone" Spencer said. "But weren't we all asleep" Ava asked.

"You were asleep right" Aria asked Spencer. "Oh my god somebody called Emily from my phone somebody was in my house you guys this is a set up" Spencer said and a twig snapped.

"What was that" Hanna asked. "I don't know, and I don't want to find out" Ava said.

"We need to get out of here now" Spencer said and grabbed the shovel while Aria, and Hanna helped Emily and left with Ava following them.

"Everything" Emily asked Spencer. "Everything" Spencer said, and Emily took off her clothes. "The only person who benefits from a missing body is Ali's killer" Spencer said.

"I wish they would just leave her be" Ava said. "He killed Maya too" Emily said. "I know Em" Spencer said. "And don't worry Garrett will pay for what he did" Ava said.

"Jenna wouldn't help Garrett, she put him in jail" Spencer said while Emily put on a robe.

"What about your sister" Emily asked. "Ah yes the older Hastings aunt of mine" Ava said.

"She's in Philadelphia and as far as we know the only thing, she's guilty of is being in Ali's room the night that she died there has to be someone else someone we don't know who's connected to Garrett" Spencer said and put the clothes Emily took off in the fire.

"What's going on" Aria asked once she and Hanna walked in seeing Spencer writing.

"We're leaving we're going to the lake house and when my mom reads this note she'll think that we've been up there since this afternoon" Spencer said explaining.

"Em" Spencer said, and they all left heading to the lake house.

The next day at the lake house the phone rang, and Spencer quickly answered it. "Hello" Spencer said.

"I'm sorry if I woke you up, I don't know how to tell you this" Veronica said and told Spencer about Alison's body. "We're there any witnesses" Spencer asked.

"No mom I understand okay bye" Spencer said and hung up. "The caretaker called it in this morning" Spencer said facing the girls.

"The place is crawling with reporters, but the police don't have any leads" Spencer said. "So, we're okay nobody saw us" Aria asked. "Yeah" Spencer said.

"I'm so sorry guys this is all my fault" Emily said. "Em don't say that" Ava said. "No one's blaming you" Hanna said.

"Yeah, Em somebody took you there to make it look like you dug up Ali's body" Spencer said and sat next to Ava. "And I made it so easy if I wasn't so wasted" Emily said.

"Em last night never happened" Hanna said. "Are we sure about that" Aria asked.

"What are you getting at Aria" Ava asked. "We can still go to the cops we can tell them the truth" Aria said.

"We don't even know what the truth is" Hanna said. "Okay we got up here yesterday afternoon we roasted some marshmallows we talked about how much fun senior year is gonna be and we went to bed early" Spencer said.

"Sounds good enough" Ava said. "Em" Hanna said. "I understand last night never happened" Emily said.

"So, our anniversary is tonight" Mike said to Ava cuddled up with her on his bed. "It is, isn't it" Ava asked and smiled. "So, what do you have in mind" Ava asked.

"I was thinking dinner at your favorite place" Mike said.

"I should be free but if anything changes, I'll let you know then again I can always sneak over at midnight" Ava said.

"Sounds perfect" Mike said and gave Ava a quick kiss. Ava's phone dinged and she looked seeing a text.

"I'm here you ready - Hanna" the message said. "As much as I would love to stay longer, I have to go I'm going with Hanna somewhere" Ava said.

"You going to see Mona" Mike asked and Ava sighed.

"Just be careful okay I understand you miss her she was your best friend just promise me you'll stay safe" Mike said.

"I promise" Ava said and gave him a quick kiss before leaving.

"You'll need to wear it while you're on this floor we still haven't seen any changes but I'm sure she appreciates your visits both of yours" the receptionist said and opened a door.

"Your friends are here" she said while Hanna and Ava made their way in the room seeing Mona sat in the bed.

"Can you say hello" the woman asked Mona. Soon enough the woman left, and Hanna and Ava sat down next to each other. "Birds, birds, birds" Hanna said flipping through a book.

"You cannot find a top this season without feathers on it" Hanna said. "I'm not sure that will work" Ava said while Mona stayed quiet.

Hanna put the book down and stood up. Before sitting back down on the bed while Ava went to stand beside Hanna. "Are you gonna look right through me forever or Ava" Hanna asked. 

"If you're not going to talk to me talk to Ava you love her Mona, she's like your sister" Hanna said.

"Hanna stop it's okay" Ava said. "Look it's not easy for me or Ava to get here okay I have been lying to everyone I care about for weeks Ava is lucky she doesn't have to lie to Mike and after what happened last night I, I need you to understand something I am not doing this for you" Hanna said. "Hanna easy" Ava said.

"I'm here for me I want to know what I did to make you hate me so much I understand why Ava was your soft spot she's amazing" Hanna said.

"Han leave her be she'll come around eventually come on" Ava said. 

Ava and Hanna left Mona's room. "Hanna, Ava" they heard someone say and they looked up and saw Wren. 

"Ava whose Ava definitely not me" Ava said nervously.

"Um no, no you must have us confused with someone else" Hanna said.

"Oh, Miss Rivers I'm sorry your resemblance to an old friend is uncanny and this must be your sister who reminds me of a patient I treated" Wren said.

"Please don't tell anybody that you saw us here" Hanna said to wren in a whisper. "What are you doing here" Wren asked.

"What are you doing here" Hanna asked back. "I volunteer a few days a month quid pro quo" Wren said. "I'm sorry what" Ava said. "What" Hanna said.

"It's turn" Wren said. "She was my best friend okay I just wanted to see how she was doing" Ava said.

"And she owes me some answers I need it to make sense" Hanna said. "Sense is something rarely mined from mental illness trust me I've spent a lifetime trying" Wren said. 

"I'm starting to figure that out I mean I don't think I can keep coming back it's like she doesn't even know that I'm here" Hanna said. "Um I'll meet you in the car" Ava said and left.

Ava and Mike were eating together at Ava's favorite place. "Oh, before I forget here" Mike said giving Ava her present. "Mike" Ava said.

"Just open it" Mike said. "Yours isn't even here yet" Ava said. "My beautiful girl the only gift I could ever want is you" Mike said and Ava smiled.

"Now open it or no sex tonight" Mike said. "And you think that affects me" Ava asked.

"I would assume you especially when I have to keep you from screaming my name" Mike said.

"Okay, okay I get it" Ava said and opened her present. "Aw Mike it's beautiful" Ava said smiling.

"Now everyone will know I'm yours" Ava said and gave Mike a quick kiss. "Thank you I love you" Ava said. "I love you too" Mike said while Ava put the necklace on. "Happy anniversary" Mike said.

"Happy anniversary" Ava said smiling and they continued with their night.

"Ava hey" Caleb said catching up to her. "Hey Caleb" Ava said smiling. "I heard your and Mike's anniversary was yesterday " Caleb said.

"Yeah, wow can't believe we made it this long" Ava said.  "Well just know if he ever missed up if Toby ever needs back up, I'm there" Caleb said making Ava smile.

"Aw look at you, being protective like a big brother" Ava said.

"Have to be you're like the little sister I never had" Caleb said and Ava smiled.

"I promise if it happens, I'll call you, but you have nothing to worry about" Ava said. "Okay good you I'll see you around okay" Caleb said and left.

Hanna and Ava found Aria and Spencer and made their way to them. "Hey" Ava and Hanna said to them. "Hey" Spencer said back to them.

"Hi Lucas" Spencer said seeing Lucas. "He knows something" Aria said.

"I thought you said he didn't see you guys" Spencer said. "He didn't it's no coincidence that he turns dark after the masquerade ball" Aria said.

"Jenna has that effect on people" Spencer said. "Yeah, but she's been gone all summer and he's still Boo Radley" Aria said.

"Have you ever noticed how many skinny brunettes go to this school" Hanna asked.

"No but I never cared to pay attention" Ava said. "She fits the costume" Hanna said. "Has anybody heard from Emily" Spencer asked. "Not me" Ava said.

"No, I left her a bunch of messages" Hanna said. "Yeah, me too, hope she's okay" Aria said.

After Aria was gone too long to use the bathroom the girls went to the bathroom seeing her crouched down on the floor. "Aria" Spencer said.

"Aria are you okay" Hanna asked. "Aria it's okay we're here now" Ava said crouching down to her holding her hand. "I had a panic attack you guys I think I saw A" Aria said.

"No, you didn't okay Mona is in a Straitjacket at Bradley" Spencer said. "She's nowhere near here she can't hurt you" Ava said.

"Yeah, I heard that she's practically in a coma over there" Hanna said and Ava helped Aria up. 

"That girl interrupted thing could just be an act to keep her out of jail you know what she's capable of we all do" Aria said. "Yeah, but she can't hurt us anymore okay" Spencer said.

"She's not going to get anywhere near you I promise" Ava said.

"Don't worry Aria someday we will all have jubilation" Hanna said and Ava, Spencer, and Aria laughed at Hanna while Aria gave her a hug.

"That was a really good use of that word Han" Spencer said joining in the hug with Ava.

"What did the police want" Toby asked once he and Ava walked back inside their loft.

"To see where the girls and I were the night Ali's grave was dug up" Ava said. "Did you tell them where you were" Toby asked.

"Yeah, at the lake house Toby I get that you're worried and I love you for being a protective brother, but everything is fine I promise" Ava said and Toby nodded.

"I'm going to go to bed long night" Ava said and went to her room.

After not seeing Emily at school all day or the police station the girls all met back up at Spencer's while Hanna tried to call her. "I'll try one more time" Hanna said.

"Why wasn't she at the police station do you think she told them the truth" Aria asked.

"If she told them the truth we wouldn't be standing here" Spencer said. "I just hope she's okay that night must have really freaked her out" Ava said.

There was a knock on the door, and they all went to the door while Hanna answered it seeing Emily.

Emily walked in while Hanna closed the door behind her. "Em that was me calling you where have you been" Hanna asked.

"It's okay if you told them the truth, we'll figure something out" Aria said. "Just like we always do" Ava said. "No, I would never do that to you guys" Emily said.

"They called all four of us into the station where were you we were so worried" Spencer asked.

"I didn't have my phone with me yesterday and when I got home last night the cops were waiting for me, but I told them everything that we agreed on everything" Emily said.

"Then why are you so upset" Hanna asked. "Because if it wasn't for me, we wouldn't be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and it could haunt us forever" Emily said sitting down with Hanna beside her.

"Em it's fine okay we've dealt with it" Hanna said. "We'd do anything for you" Ava said.

"I saw you guys at school yesterday and all I could think about was because of me" Emily said when Spencer interrupted her.

"Because of you nothing okay nobody saw us and if we just stick to our story we are in the clear" Spencer said.

"I remembered something about that night" Emily said and told them what she remembered.

"That's it that's all you remember" Hanna asked. "Han" Ava said scolding her.

"I found out online that some people forget things because they don't want to remember and if this is selective then anything can trigger it sights, smells, sounds" Emily said.

"So, the car that you saw it just looked like the car from that night or it was the car" Spencer asked.

"I don't know I started to walk towards it because I wanted to look inside but I got a text and the person that sent it to me knows I don't remember what happened" Emily said and shown Spencer the text. "I bet you remember me" Spencer said.

"Oh no please not again" Ava said. "Guys is it starting again" Aria asked. "No, you guys that's not A, Mona is A and she's drooling in her bed at a nut hospital" Hanna said.

"We don't know that for sure" Aria said. "Yeah, we do Ava and I have been visiting her" Hanna said.

"What" Spencer, Aria, and Emily said. "We didn't tell you because we knew you'd think we're crazy" Ava said. "Yeah" Spencer said.

"She tried to kill you Hanna" Aria said. "And Ava, you sacrificed yourself to save Hanna from being run over that car" Emily said.

"Guys she was my best friend okay when we split, I had no one but then I met Mona, and she was there through all of it even Ali's death I just wanted to see how she was doing I owe it to her" Ava said.

"She's locked up in a room with bars on over her windows trust me she doesn't know anything that happened that night" Hanna said.

"Yeah, well someone does" Emily said. "But not Mona" Ava said. "There's something I need to show you guys" Spencer said.

Ali's shrine is right over there" Spencer said pointing to where it was supposed to be in the room.

"And then over here she had a row of black hoodies all just perfectly hanging ready for A to grab one and run" Spencer said motioning to where it was supposed to be.

"Mona ready for Mona" Hanna said. "Yeah and there was a zombie costume hanging on the back of that door just like the one that attacked Ali on Halloween" Spencer said.

"Okay so you've been coming here all summer trying to remember what was in this room why" Emily asked.

"We have to tell Emily the truth" Spencer said. "Well better late than never" Ava said.

"The morning after they found Mona's body we came back here" Hanna said. "Yeah, to get rid of everything I know you told me" Emily said.

"We lied to you" Aria said. "We didn't want it to be another thing you had to worry about" Hanna said. "When we came back here it was empty" Spencer said.

"Not a single trace of it was left" Ava said. "The file cabinets, the maps, pictures, Ali's diaries everything was gone" Spencer said.

"Maybe the police took it" Emily said. "If the police found out what Mona knows about us my mom would be in jail" Hanna said. "Yeah Ezra too" Aria added. "So who took it" Emily asked.

"Well there are things that don't really add up" Spencer said.

"Like Mona was with you when A gave Emily that massage" Spencer said motioning to Hanna.

"And there's no way that she could have gotten Ian's body out of the bell tower by herself" Spencer said.

"Wait you're saying that you think someone was helping her" Aria said and Spencer changed the picture on the laptop.

"If the black swan wasn't guilty of something why would she run from you guys" Spencer asked when a car alarm went off. "What's going on with the car" Ava asked and they ll went outside seeing all the doors open along with the trunk.

Spencer stopped the alarm on her car and they all looked inside the car seeing tons of pictures of them. 

Once they made it to the trunk all their phones went off.  They all took out their phones looking at the message.

"Mona played with dolls I play with body parts" Aria said reading the text.

"Game on liars" Ava said reading the text. "A" Aria, Ava, Spencer, Emily, and Hanna all said.

"Just when you think you're out they could you back in" Ava said annoyed. "Okay how did I know you was going to say that" Spencer asked. "It's Ava did you expect otherwise" Emily asked.
