11. The Star of Christmas
It was a cloudy evening over Toadtown and it was the start of the Christmas season. All over the Mushroom Kingdom, toads were preparing for the holiday. At the Bus Station, the last buses were leaving and Toad was on stationmaster duty. He was on the platform and a truck with Christmas tree's arrived.
A few toads got off and unloaded a tree and Toad looked at it.
"How beautiful," said Toad as he saw the tree.
"Oh yes this year the tree farm has had it's best year yet," said the woodstoad.
"To add on we are delivering our biggest tree to the town square tomorrow afternoon," said the other toad.
"That's the best tree," said Toad.
The woodstoads agreed at Toad's comment and got on their truck. They pulled out the Bus Station and the lights on the traffic gantry were lit up as the sun set over Toadtown. That evening over Toadtown and the hills a freezing fog and ice began to form on trees! The next morning over Toadtown, Toad was coming out of his house to go to the bus station.
Suddenly he slipped and fell and looked beside him and saw the grass was coated in ice. Meanwhile up north at the tree farm, the woodstoads were surprised. All the trees were covered in ice and then suddenly one looked up.
"WATCH OUT," they screamed.
The large Christmas tree for the town square collapsed. The toads watched in horror and gasped as the tree smacked the ground. At the Bus Station, Toad arrived and Mrs. Brook and the schoolchildren were waiting on the platform. Today they were going on a field trip to the Nature Trail.
"Now children today we will be exploring the Nature Trail to learn about winter wildlife," said Mrs. Brook.
Zario scoffed and laughed.
"Winter wildlife"
Mrs. Brook frowned at him and then Toad arrived on the platform.
"Mrs. Brook it seems like all bus services have been canceled it's too cold to start up the buses.." said Toad worried.
"Oh dear that won't do we need a bus now," said Mrs. Brook.
She looked around and then looked at Toad and he frowned. Soon Toad arrived up to the platform with his small school bus.
"Oh well get on kids," said Toad.
Mrs. Brook directed them to the bus and they pulled out the empty bus station. Meanwhile, at the tree farm, the woodstoads were looking for another tree as quickly as possible. They had searched the whole farm but to no avail, they had no large more trees.
Toad arrived at the Nature Trail parking area and the bus came to a stop. The children got off and then Toad's phone rung.
"Hello," said Toad.
"Toad we need help we have no trees for the town square would you mind helping us." said a voice.
"On my way," said Toad.
"What's happened," asked Mrs. Brook?
"Mrs. Brook it seems I have to go to the tree farm they need a tree for the square. I will be here at 2pm to pick everyone up," said Toad.
Toad left and Mrs. Brook looked at the kids and then started walking into the woods. About an hour later Zario was complaining as they hadn't seen any animals yet.
"I thought the forest had winter wildlife" complained Zario.
"It does we just need to find it!" said Mrs. Brook excited.
Zario frowned and then Mrs. Brook spoke.
"Anyway class let's set up our picnic supplies to eat lunch," she said.
The children walked off the trail into a large clearing and put down their picnic blankets. Andrea, Max, and Molly were enjoying their sandwiches and crisps. Zario sat down and opened a bowl of mac and cheese he had packed. Suddenly the wind blew and he fell backward. He screamed as the heavy wind blew hard and the basket overturned and the plates flew off.
"Oh dear it seems like the picnic weather is horrible," said Andrea.
They began packing up their basket and clouds were seen in the distance. Suddenly Molly came running up with bad news.
"I heard Mrs. Brook talking over the phone they didn't find a tree," said Molly.
Max and Andrea gasped and then a light bulb came to Andrea's head.
"Maybe we can find one," said Andrea.
"For what?" asked Molly?
"Santa he could reward us for helping out," smiled Andrea.
"Last time you helped Santa you almost got hurt," said Molly.
"I'm sure it will be okay this time," said Max.
The small group got up and Zario snickered he would foil their plans. Clouds began to get thicker and Mrs. Brook was eating lunch with Clara and she got up.
"Come on kids lets' go to the parking lot now," said Mrs. Brook.
Adrian and Zario ran up and Mrs. Brook was shocked.
"Andrea? Max? What about Molly?" asked Mrs. Brook?
"Looking for a tree," said Zario snickering.
Mrs. Brook gasped she needed to call for help before it got windier. Suddenly her phone started buzzing and she looked at it.

Mrs. Brook screamed and almost fainted in the woods. Andrea and her friends were walking around looking for a tree. Molly looked up and fat snowflakes began to fall and she gasped.
"Look snow," said Max.
Meanwhile, at the picnic grounds, Mrs. Brook was panicking!
"Emergency Services which service do you require," said the operator.
"POLICE," screamed Mrs. Brook.
"This the Emergency Service Center what is your emergency?" asked the operator.
"LOST CHILDREN on the Northern Toadtown Nature Trail," said Mrs. Brook.
Snow began to fall quicker over Toadtown and Toad was driving to the nature trail. His phone started buzzing and saw it was from Mrs. Brook.
"TOAD I CAN'T FIND THE CHILDREN," screamed Mrs. Brook.
Toad gasped and he hit of a patch of snow the bus swerved and the tree truck behind him rear-ended him! He dropped his phone and trees fell on the road meanwhile at the trail. Andrea was shivering as the snow was falling quickly
"Maybe we should go back?" asked Max?
"Which is the way back," said Molly?
"HELPPP," screamed Andrea.
At the parking lot, police cars and other emergency vehicles arrived and Mrs. Brook watched in horror as the snow was falling. After a minute they found the toads not far from the trail and Zario was mad his plan was foiled.
At the Bus Station, Toad's bus pulled in and so did the tree truck. Mrs. Brook got off and Andrea was planning to run off till Mrs. Brook grabbed her.
"What on earth were you thinking," asked Mrs. Brook?
"We were just trying to find a tree because we love Christmas," said Andrea with puppy eyes.
Mrs. Brook looked away and screamed.
"10 pages saying your sorry!" he said.
"Please no," said Andrea with puppy eyes as she was dragged away by her friends.
